The Australian Reports Of Second Explosion In Iranian City Of Isfahan

Tyler Durden's picture

While this story has not been caught by any of the major wires, The Australian's Jerusalem correspondent Sheera Frankel reports something quite disturbing: "All eyes on Israel after second Iranian blast. CLOUDS of smoke billowed above the city of Isfahan - evidence that the latest strike against Iran's alleged nuclear weapons program had hit its target." We will report more if this story is confirmed by any other news agencies because if true it means that at this point things behind the scenes are no longer happening in the shadows.

As a reminder, from Monday: Satellite Image Confirms Iranian Missile Base Was Destroyed

Today's curious news report posted by Iran's semi-official news agency Fars, which was promptly muted, only to be republished by Israel's Haaretz, of a major explosion near the Iranian city of Isfahan, has left many scratching their heads. As Haaretz reports: "Speaking with Fars news agency, Isfahan’s deputy mayor confirmed the reports and said the authorities are investigating the matter. However, after the incident was reported in Israel, the report was taken off the Fars website." Which led many to wonder: is this a real event or merely a provocation designed to make Iranians believe they were attacked? Further complicating matters is the just released news from Washington Post which shows satellite images of the aftermath of another explosion in Iran, this time from two weeks ago at an Iranian missile base. "The image of the compound, near the city of Malard, doesn’t provide any clues as to what caused the Nov. 12 explosion, which Iranian authorities described as an “accident” involving the transport of ammunition. But it does make clear that the facility has been effectively destroyed. Paul Brannan, a senior analyst for the Institute for Science and International Security, which specializes in the study of nuclear weapons programs, said it’s impossible to tell from the image whether the blast was caused by sabotage, as has has been speculated in this explosion and others at transport facilities, oil refineries and military bases in Iran. Brannan said ISIS had recently learned from “knowledgable officials” that the blast had occurred just as Iran had achieved a milestone in the development of a new missile and may have been performing a “volatile procedure involving a missile engine at the site.” So the question stands: is Iran being systematically attacked with the news being covered up for fear that it can not retaliate and thus seem week; is it being sabbotaged on a weekly basis, or is everything just one big media disinformation campaign designed to provoke Iran to lash out? We will probably know very soon, today's "oversold" and now completely disconnected from reality rally notwithstanding.

If - there has been numerous strikes - why are the Iranians just taking it?

Would they not have made loud statements - and retaliated already?

Isn't the notion that Iran cannot retaliate ridiculous?

Hasn't Hamaz & Hizbolla & Iranian Guards plentifully struck and retaliated in the past?

Israeli intelligence officials told The Times that there was “no doubt” that the blast struck the nuclear facilities at Isfahan and that it was “no accident.”

Later, an Israeli intelligence source is quoted as follows:

“This caused damage to the facilities in Isfahan, particularly to the elements we believe were involved in storage of raw materials,” said one military intelligence source.

I don't see the point of voting Trav's commnent down, it's a reasonable possibility that a missile accidentally exploded. Unless you are on the ground in Iran you should leave all possibilities open in your mind, rather than reflexively downvoting somebody's comments because he sometimes says the "N-WORD" (gasp)

When objects at rest blow up, the debris scatter is much more symmetrical, though rarely perfect. Examining the image after the incident, the debris is highly asymmetric, which would lead one to suspect there was a kinetic vector associated with the event. Take that as you will.

On a separate topic, you were right about the "$6 dollars to dig it out of the ground" comment, it wasn't you. My apologies.

Dr. Head - IF no media outlet, anywhere in the world, reported an Iranian government statement about something like "CIA/Mossad attacks on Iranian missile bases"...  - then:

A) all worldwide media would be asleep and or self-sabotaging - OR:

B) US would have accomplished full control of every media outlet on Earth

- in which either cases US has won the final war of the world and now controls everything without exception - and consequently we can all join the US armed forces and or HomeLand Security or go the mall or just commit hare-kiri, because there will be absolutely no further ideas, issues or battles to bother with, but only repetitious non-ideas and non-news and thus no life, but only submission, slavery and roboticism.

Retaliate how? Throw a missle at Isreal and invite the West to carpet bomb them? Sink an oil tanker in the  Strait of Hormuz and give the west another excuse to attack. Isreal used the exact same tatic to destroy Syria's Al-Kibar nuclear facility and got away and to this day have not admitted to carrying out the attack. Unless Isreal openly admits to attacking Iran there is little Iran can do about it with being seen as the aggressor here.

While you might not be right about what is going on in Iran, it is a real possibility. And what you say about Iran's options are also true. Being provoked into striking back is a death sentence and an open invitation for hundreds of missiles and planes from US and Israeli bases and ships to being the reduction of Iran to the 13th century.

Were you an Iranian leader and several of your assets were struck by missile or sabatoge traced to Israel, what would you do? What could you do? The consequences of self defense are oblivion. That of course is WHY they seek a few nukes!!! Plainly without them they are open to any form of attack the west chooses. That is the fact. Love 'em or hate 'em, the Iranians have all reason to seek nukes. See Iraq as an example, then wonder why Pakistan gets a free ride to a large degree, when they are terror central! Could it be the nukes? I think so!

Desert & Jack - where have you guys been the last 60 years?

Iranian retaliation would be exacted by terrorism - via Hizbollah, Hamaz... like so many times before.

Are you blinded by admiration for US military might...?

You do realize that Pentagon/CIA might is paid for by the People's Repulic via US bonds and deflating USD?

If you are against the FED and againts bailout, surely you must be against US empire...?

Which is continuously bailed out by China, who for slave wages makes all the stuff US consumes...

Or - if not, you win, Pentagon/CIA wins, Mossad wins, Wall Street wins, US FED & Bernak wins - Great!

Let's go to the mall. Let's buy stocks. Let's attack Iran all out - and N. Korea too, and maybe Pakistan too if they don't accomodate US again in a hurry... of course we should fly 6000 drones over there and kill anyone who opposes us and Halliburton and Bechtel and all our other nice corporations...

It's really cool how the financially decimated US population gets a kick out of vicarious supremacy. Very Cool.  And now that US power has gone totally stealth it's even cooler. We are the best. US rules forever and ever - and unto us a son is born and a very merry Christmas to all ...

- if it is still allowed to say the word "Christmas"....

Have some crazy jihaddi-outfit blow up the oil facilities in Ghawar, Saudi Arabia. That should put a decent dent in the growth perspectives of world e-con-me and with that going down the tubes, the US ability to print USD for war.

Kim Jong Il demonstrates perfectly that the *only* way to keep the westerner away is by being absolutely stone crazy, capable of Anything, with no possibility that Wall Street can profit on your actions. Pakistan, despite all its nukes, gets shat all over by NATO.

There is of course an untold secret about Iran as well.

It has been in the grip of anopium addiction for centuries now. Thank you Brittania. Huge problem. If you cannot get them this way, get them that. And with this Opium business, CHina was such the stencil. And it worked too. India, China and Iran, destroyed by Opium, both agriculture and consumption (in it's derivative forms).

Interesting! You know Russia openly accuses the west, NATO and the USA in particular of being behind the flood of heroin into Russia from Afghanistan?  They believe, and say openly, that the west seeks to destroy Russia from within by the horrible drug problem in all parts of Russia. Death on the young is commonplace. Russian leaders believe NATO protects and funnels drugs from Afghanistan to the central asian nations and on into Russia where it is destroying a generation.

This problem is very convinient for the west seeking to prevent a return of Russia power in the long run.

If true it will not be reported in the MSM.

Suspect that some state is deploying small armed drones equipped with air-to-ground missiles.

Conventional drones such as used in AF-PAK are pretty much invisible from the ground and have a very low radar cross section. It is possible to increase the stealth capabilities. And if some state has teh capabiilty to launch assination teams inside Iran (and there is clear evidence of exactly that) then it would not be difficult to deploy and launch small stealth drones.

I like some of the analysis - but we've heard the 'cake walk' theme before in Iraq.  It's annecdotal of a couple hundred thousand people out of tens of millions in revolt.  So what if 90% of the population loves you - 10% can cost you years, lives, and trillions.

People need to read Nightwatch or do some analysis and understand in most of these countries, the majority of the population is removed from these revolutions and could care less...untl they are given a reason to care.  They go hungry - they start to care (like in Eygpt).  But look at Syria and Libya - where the 'revolution' is unable to overthrown the regime without Western bombs and guns.

The reason:  most people go about their daily lives and don't care...until they have a reason.

I hope we don't make American bombs and mistakes, compounded with a generally anti-Israeli attitude the reason to care on their side.  Because then we end up with another Iraq, but much tougher.  People forget these are not camelf*ckers having sex with boys in a tent while they tell women they can't drive.

But, of course this hebrew girl won't be doing the fighting...people like her rarely do.  The Israeli's won't be involved in a land occupation fighting an insurgency against Persians.   It'll be our boys, fighting the Persians and a new proxy war with the Chinese and Russians who send teams in to train against us and furhter weaken us.

We'll be slugging it out with their boys, while the Israeli's boys beat up on the Palestinians boys and someone somewhere gets richer while I probably lose a hand.

Disgusting how the warmongers rarely are the warfighters.

because the nuclear bs was never the real issue.  Israel wants iran destroyed, just like iraq, because israel wants total dominance in the ME without any potential threats...  if millions of brown people have to die to achieve this goal, that's fine, because "god" said the land was theirs.   think hard about what "god" would be ok with such an arrangement.

From the looks of things, if RT tries to grab a sandwich and cuppa joe at SB, he might have to wait in line.

I think sometimes we're too hard on RT.  ZH hopefully has room for different opinions, however misguided you may feel they are.  And it seems to me RT mostly trades in facts and the actual numbers, albeit numbers from the rigged operations we call the equities markets. He's usually got a serious point with his observation, and he makes no pretense of analyzing beyond the fact that, I think,  he firmly believes the Fed and the other central banks can run this thing up far higher and for far longer than we can even imagine.  That is apoint of view that is valid - after all, there is considerable evidence is on his side and has been since March 2009.  It takes digging to see where the fault lines lie and cracks are appearing in all this; today's extremely tepid NFP numbers show continued declines in worker participation rates, insufficient growth in payrolls, and declining wages, which to me point to continued hard times in the real economy.  Fundamentals, in other words.

But if like RT all you look at it is on a screen showing how things are at various tables in the casino, and that is what are trading, you might think everything is just hunky dory.   I for one could see going long till Xmas, as TPTB and their well-paid propagandists are really busily shoving this down the world's throat at the end of the year.  This geared up out of nowhere at Thanksgiving, and it will stay on full blast until further notice - Euroland is kept afloat by a day by day steady drip of rumors, lies and half-witted plans that have no basis in reality.

This whole thing is weird.  If Iran are being attacked repeatedly, then - in the absence of any declaration of hostilities - the attacks are illegal under international law, yes?

So it ought to be in Iran's interest to scream bloody murder about this - they should be complaining like mad that they are being attacked illegally and it ought give them the moral high ground.

I would have thought that they would benefit from this aggression...

...yet they aren't making any noise about it.

They're really vocal about sanctions and CIA agents etc. so why would they remain silent if they are being attacked?

Very odd.

Just remember that if you see sudden, brilliant sunlight through your window and all your electricity goes off, it's time to get under some furniture because you've survived the flash but the blast is on its way.

don't let your bias shroud other possibilities.  it could be internal strife and the regime doesn't want to appear weak inside it's own borders.  yes, i grant that any internal movement (such as the Green Movement, KSA) is probably supported by the CIA/Mossad but if the regime does not have that proof, they won't be leaking the news.

Hey man or girl, that's how the system works! You have that "grave" case of some used car salesman trying to kill somebody in US (supposedly) and actual assainations going on in Iran. Then that court in Europe is going only after some minor guys in Africa or M.East. Will they go after major killers, is that your question?

"the attacks are illegal under international law, yes?

So it ought to be in Iran's interest to scream bloody murder about this - they should be complaining like mad that they are being attacked illegally and it ought give them the moral high ground."

In the interest of good logical analysis I suggest that it would be silly to suggest that those engaging in "illegal" activities be advertizing their actions (what, the MSM giving us facts?).  News harmful to the west would be allowed to come out of Iran?

Clearly, international law meant squat for the invasion of Iraq.

"They're really vocal about sanctions and CIA agents etc. so why would they remain silent if they are being attacked?"

This might provide a better insight, and that's that it might not be attractive for Iran to admit that they were infiltrated: admitting to such would bring condemnation not to those who did it, but rather that Iran's security isn't good enough and therefore they shouldn't be engaging in nuclear activities.

CIA and MOSSAD will eventually checkmate ANYONE.  Problem is, they'll only last until the money runs out: which is why I'm cheering for the economic collapse.
