Bank of America's Dead Drop To Rick Perry: "We Will Help You Out"
Should we be surprised, frightened, disgusted or simply say "we knew it", that in the informal mixer just after Texas Governor and Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry spoke at a Politics and Eggs breakfast in Bedford, New Hampshire, an unknown gentlemen approaches a casual Perry like an Ian Flemming character, and proceeds to dead drop the following: "Bank of America... We will help you out"... and silently moves on. At least we know now who is funding what, and whose interests potential future president Perry will be paid to defend.
Fast forward to precisely 40 minutes into the blow clip (full event can be found here).
And for those who believe the man is a plant, we believe it is James Mahoney, Director of Public Policy for BoA. You can see a photo of him here. He's on the board of directors for the New England Council, the sponsors of yesterday's Politics and Eggs breakfast.
Naturally, we would be delighted for Bank of America to refute this assumption.

I've been to events like these. Do you know how many lobbyists there are out there? Tens of thousands. They mingle throughout these events, looking for a moment to show support to a VIP, because they only get a couple of minutes best case to hob-nob. There is simply too much competition for the VIP's attention.
Then the looying dude goes back and documents to their boss that they had a very positive conversation and voiced their support to the VIP. That's how the the lobbying dude continues to get his paycheck. Yes, the serious negotiations happen on the phone or in a closed room, but this kind of interaction is real. It may be stupid and offending, but it is real.

I agree that Perry did nothing wrong here at all. What I think is interesting, though, is that if the man who delivered him the message was in fact authorized to do so on behalf of BA, that signifies that BA has decided to turn its back on Obama. What is also interesting is that if the man was authorized to deliver the message as he did, there must be a good reason for it, such as the possibility that Obama's people are monitoring Perry and the large banks so closely that a straightforward business meeting was ruled out. This might and I think probably does indicate that BA is fearful of the Obama administration, a thought that I know the children here at ZeroHedge must surely scoff at, as it is their belief that the banks are all-powerful, and the politicians merely their do their bidding. The children at Zerohedge have that (and many other things) wrong.
Of course, this whole thing could be much ado about nothing, a casual follow-up of a sales pitch or something like that. I guess I'm mildly interested to know what happened.

There may be lack of supply now, but as you know that can change very quickly. All the gold perma bulls will be lead to the slaughter, by the folks who traded it up, and who WILL trade it down. There is a barrier at which there will BE NO BUYERS all the way to the 500/oz mark. Why on earth would ANYONE, anywhere, at any time, BUY gold once it falls to 1000/oz?? They/You/and everyone else, will be too scared. Gold is too easy to buy and own and too difficult to sell. Just like any other physical item, its only worth what the next person is willing to pay. And if a buyer thinks there will be no one to buy from him, well, he will not be buying. WHEN gold falls, lets say to 1000/oz, your physical will NOT be worth 1000. IF your lucky, maybe 800, maybe even less. If im the buyer, Im buying with the hope i can make money with it, well, at 1000/oz, my BEST offer might be 650/oz, when everyone is trying to sell their gas guzzler, it does not matter what the blue book says its worth. BUYING above spot in an upward market (which is what you have done if you bought) is FINE, but it works the other way around too, selling into a falling market means selling BELOW spot. Ever wonder why pawn shops are the oldest business in the world next to prostitution?? When the gold SHTF, and you need cash, where are you going to go??? to the guy who charged you 5% over spot a month ago when you dropped $3000 an oz on a few coins??? NOPE. You go to a pawn shop and he will offer you 50-60% of spot, and you will take it. Know why? "The Virginia lawsuit, filed in a Fairfax, Va., state court, cites internal bank emails allegedly showing that senior bank officials knew about, and endorsed, a currency-trading method that hurt state pensioners."
In addition to Virginia and Florida, California and Tennessee are also suing BNY Mellon and State Street Corp. over the alleged fraud.
The man who uncovered the alleged scam, Harry Markopolos, expects all 50 states to eventually join the suit. If the name sounds familiar that's because Markopolos was a whistleblower on the Madoff Ponzi scheme, only to have his claims ignored by the SEC for the better par of a decade."
