A Better "Halftime In America" Commercial
Clint Eastwood drew a lot of ire, rhetoric, and subsequent explanations as to the real motives behind his Superbowl halftime commercial. Frankly, the commercial could and should have been much better. One proposal for what a less cynical and thus far more sincere "Halftime in America" commercial should be comes from Omid Malekan, creator of the original Bears (explaining QE for the "rest of us") cartoon. We believe this is what should have been shown during the superbowl. And certainly not presented under a Chrysler, pardon Fiat, umbrella.

Eastwood disgraced himself with that commercial.
They suckered the poor guy into it. Manipulated an old man.
When Eastwood was asked about Ron Paul he responded 'he's as good as anybody else.' That spoke volumes about his ignorance. The superbowl add was not surprising.
Eastwood is brilliant. That's why he is where he is, and you are where you are.
Rebuttal: Sondra Locke
What was appropriate was the Madonna halftime show that followed the commercial:

America.....symbolically like the Patriots....loses in the second half.

The truth hurts I suppose. What's wrong with that?
You exchanged wealth for welfare, so what's your problem?
hat's off to Clint. ..a straight shooter and an American original. Long may he run.
Sustained!
Further Rebuttal: The Bridges of Madison County.
That kind of analysis appears to indicate you truly must be a judge to be that ignorant of an argument.
Nobody's record is blemish free...we're all allowed a couple of mulligan's..at least he didn't marry her.
Where is he where he is?
Come to think of it, where is I where I is?
And where are you?
There are no brilliant actors, except perhaps at acting. They are a species more closely related to the Politician than the Genius.
my waiter last night told me he was brilliant actor. of course, he got that order wrong, but that's because he is above doing anything other than great 'acting'.
Actors are not brilliant. They are paid to act, perhaps sometimes brilliant, or otherwise; however, there are very, very few actors that can be considered brilliant. You've been closed.
Turns out, ZeroHedge has a lot of sheeple on here. Clint Eastwood is a fucking actor that reads lines for a living. I can't believe we are discussing what he got paid to read.
Saying "Clint Eastwood is a fucking actor" is a lot like saying "Mahatma Gandhi is a fucking community organizer."
The guy did do some acting, sure. He also had a career.
He's also about to get his ass taxed off. I think he belongs to the >250K club.
Yeah, what a crime. Helps ya realize just how oppressed the extravagantly wealthy are these days. Poor Clint being crushed under the Obamanation's jackboots.
...he says, digging in the couch cushions for food money.
No kiddin. I'm poor as a motherfucker, but at least I'm not a whiny little bitch.
@bluderdog, You just got the worst analogy award. *CLAP CLAP CLAP. What an asshat
Clint Eastwood is not just some actor. He's also a producer and a director, which are a great deal more. And no disrespect, but that's probably a whole lot more than your sorry ass has accomplished.
I may not have liked his commercial much but it was just a commercial. Get over it.
Edit: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000142/
I used to work for the guy...he's so much better in real life than any of his movie characters. He is one of the few people left in the world where you can shake his hand on a deal and he's good for it. The guy is a stud and his character and integrity are untouchable.
'Unforgiven' is my favorite movie he did He's got talent but he shouldn't blend his work with government propaganda. It really makes him look like a tool.
You are not your job.
You are not how much money you have in your wallet.
We are the all singing all dancing crap of the world.
he is an 'actor' and a 'producer' and a 'director' and he created BS in the media, with himself as the hero. none of it actually happened in reality or ever will. most of it couldn't even possibly happen. if you want to believe in media, keep on. if you want to have a life, turn it off and get on with it.
my sorry ass actually has a few accomplishments and one of them isn't selling crap to make the general public buy crap because they are brain dead. but - i'm not rich, or famous. so i'm a loser.

Clint Eastwood just revealed his real colors.
Clint started his movie career as an honest and dedicated SP policeman who uses unconventional means and risking his own police career to protect the general public from government & politicians who protect & promote criminals, rapists, perverts, murderers, etc., The “halftime” commercial revealed the real Clint Eastwood: an excellent actor and a very phony person. It should not be surprise for everybody.
After all, Clint is a Hollywood star. It is not a secret that Hollywood is owned by the Zionist Mafia. The same Mafia also owns WallStreet and the FED. The Hollywood Mafia promotes filth, crime, violence, use of narcotics, etc., The Mafia that does an excellent job destroying the cultural & political fabric of this great Nation. Do you really expect that an honest man with integrity would be permitted to become a Hollywood superstar and/or insider?
IMO - caconhma just brought down the curtain to a standing ovation. Well said.
Actors pretend for a living and have no concept of reality.
They get paid to lie, just like politicians.
Do some amateur acting and you'll figure out that the best actors are the character while acting it - they act, react and even feel the emotions that that character would feel in that situations.
Bad actors are the ones that do the "make believe I'm this person" kind of acting.
Thus (proper) acting isn't lying - if the character is a fake representation of somebody, blame it on the scriptwritter. If you want to see professional lying, check-out politicians.
That said, my words apply to stage actors, where it's live and there's no second takes. There's a couple of stars from the screen that I suspect aren't all that good as actors.
"It's not a lie if YOU believe it!" -- George Costanza
No, that was Eric Holder in sworn testimony to Congress. - Ned
Pretend? I always thought they got paid hundreds of millions for their movies so they could keep in tou with reality....
true, but the commercial is offensive and clueless
That commercial was pretty good. The guy who made it is right.
I'm all for a better, more free, non-oligarchy America.
We've got to get Ron Paul in if we want to turn this country around. The Maine caucas was blatant fraud, check out this video here:
http://ronpaul2012blog.blogspot.com/
When Eastwood was asked about Ron Paul he responded 'he's as good as anybody else.' That spoke volumes about his ignorance.
First, we all need to understand just one thing. something we all have in common - we are all terror suspects the lands of our republic have been declared a war zone and any of us can be locked away on a whim, by our employees, in the name of the global national security ponzi.
The phrase, "he looks as good as anybody else", is very clever subliminal pitch for Dr. Paul as could be. A fair portion of us may fear supporting Dr. Paul's efforts would condemn us to wearing a scarlet letter for being 'unpatriotic'. A real "rule of law" and honest "golden rule" advocate is not usually part of our made for TV quad-annual presidential horse race. Glenn Greenwald remarked that when he spoke about the "rule of law" in Washington DC, he felt like he was speaking a foreign language.
Clint's "he looks as good as anybody else" response is a great low key pitch to anyone straddling the fence or doubts what their common sense tells, the: He's not saying "Not Paul", he's asking "Why not Paul". If ya come on too brash too baudy with the gentry off Dog Patch they will ignore you - ya gotz tuze soft shoe an idea everyonce in a while - do an an end around instead of a run up the middle and all that stuff.
Besides - the 'bowl's" (which your's truly has boycotted for a decade) ad policy does not allow political content. The ""bowel's" suits denied a building 7 ad and antiwar ad or two (did not know a position on genocide or war crimes is considered a "political" position). Ahhh - what the F* - we're a; drunk on the ecstasy exceptionalism - why spoil the party - and besides - did you see the Madon's demonic posturing - or did one of her breastesses flop out - again.
The collapse will not stop - the system is totally broke. Alternatives 1) The resignation and house arrest of all political employees (associated with the ponzi) and their relatives as well as resignations from the heads, and boards, of the fractional reserve CDS and debt dealers on the "Street: and their subsidiaries bit it voluntary or some "not yet quite imagined how" hard or soft coup by the republics rank and file civil and uniformed employees who would also need to set up a provisional government to manage the republics business internally and externally, as well as facts and evidence.of the crimes that delivered the collapse. Either that, or 2) 300 Million turn less than 10,000 into compost or, 3) the golden rule.
But the system is broke - it's broke as we comment. It's broke beyond even Mr Wizard's repair skills, It has to be rebuilt ground up all over again. Dr Paul stated last year he believes it may be to late to tweak a correction - the best he might be able to do was mitigate the consequences and shorten the duration.
There is no miracle - no QE manna from the big cheese of the big cheeses can put Humpty Dumpty of our shallow national pride back together again - the fascists want fog of a world war to hide their useless murderous asses from us. If we wait - they'll be pawning of our bandwidth, our water system, our air, our food production our roads just like they did in every other banana republic they IPO'd to sacrifice someone else's homeland, friends and families for.
The tipping poinr has been breached - even the blind can see the truth and are angered by the crimes and lies. Angered by their prolonged bout of apathy.
Sometimes a whisper is louder than a shout And some things sometimes are beyond the hope of dialog.
Wake up!
its not half time....it has been declared a "no contest".....a merciless beat down from the special privledge on the sheered sheep...no its not half time ...its a mike tyson fuckin knockout...
Disgrace? Not even close. He sent a good message. If more people at his level did the same we'd be in much better shape as a country.
have a little respect. The man is Dirty Harry. Nuff said.
I don't care if he's Dirty Sanchez, I respect him, but he sells out.
Coming from you, that's saying something.
Pull the cash outta your ass louie, dirty harry is a movie character, nothing more. Clint Eastwood is an actor that I enjoy from spaghetti wetserns to even Dirty Harry. However his message was garbled at best and pro-statist at worst.
Age has worn out Eastwood's body and mind, but he still wields a lot of influence. Unfortunately, there's many people who like to manipulate old men in positions like that.
I agree, Eastwood disgraced himself supporting Obama! That was a clear political add! He would not have done it 30 years ago when he was making the old spagthetti westerns and beating the crap out of Lee Van Cleef!
I love watching right wingers get their panties in a wad over every noC'm that flies by. Get a grip, you clowns.
yes, libertarian peabraniacs, let's continue with your tribal thinking, it's going to lead us back to 1812. What? Detroit is coming back? It's horrible, just horrible! I wish Taliban blew them up or something. Ron Paul!
You mean way back when the U.S. didn't have to travel 6,000 miles to fight undeclared wars, and won them?
Are you an Obama girl or a Romney girl?
I'm looking forward to your youtube 'viral' video, with tight tshirt and big hooters, while singing off key.
I think america goes with the playbook out of Benny's back pocket. Print print print.
Bravo!
I'm leaning more in the 7 min left in the 4th quarter camp.
Tyler is pulling grass as "Joe Cool" while he runs the two minute drill.
Leave him alone. Even Ben Hur and Jeremiah Johnson had intermissions.
i like that. but let's just push that a little further as in GAME OVER.
...which playbook do we want to go out with? The one that's hard but brought us this far or the other one that's born of nothing but envy and fear -is more like it.
And since he's presenting the issue this way, he shouldn’t have been shy about pointing out who would rather fundamentally transform America instead.
Linsanity.
Betcha an oz of platinum he's a better economist than Krugman?
Princeton vs Harvard, we can sell tickets to this if they faceoff. Quick buy more MSG stock.
We can't be havin' no kid in no garage creatin' the next bright idea...anymore. Mega corporations are the only way, with one hand in Joe's pocket with price monopolies and the other hand scraping dough out of the US Treasury. More conforming to mass produced products is the way. Less independent critical political thought is the way. More capital formation through the Federal Reserve printing press is the way.
Stop this abuse of the airwaves calling for rugged individualism!
Kurt Cobain?
Damn right! Just ask the Europeans how many Garage Enterprises they created in the last century, over here people would not catch an idea if it was injected directly into their veins with a needle, that is a reason why America got so great(past tense) the Europeans just would not compete like it was beneath them
What the hell happened to AAPL?
Ummm...for about 30 minutes, the market actually worked and arbitraged sheer stupidity.
Ran out of juice.
Algos cannot read, but some "User" clearly did some ZH reading and made for the exits.
On a similar profane note, who the Hell is sending SHLD up nearly 7% this session ?
Ben Bernanke. He is expanding his book of broken consumer discretionary companies...this to go with his Red Roof Inn position.
Next, he will be checking his search screens for companies that have recently filed for bankruptcy...
Ripened from green to red.
Market down 81 points? Time for the PPT to save the day!
Equities? Going down? Unpossible!
Maybe someone can announce they are thinking about signing something.
Almost time for momo-tarder to tell us how restaurant stocks and sporting goods stores are making new 52 week highs...
Next thing we'll see cats and dogs living together. Utter madness. I need to hear the "F E D" tone to feel safe.
Member that 45 minute "Crude Complex" "mind freeze" daze back. It's like the an initial fax from the FED's fast and furious ponzi control romm inadvertently reported to the FED's insider's, "we're going to power down some printers for maintenance", when it was discovered the wrong insider spot market manipulation trading "fix" was sent out, after 45 minutes everybody got the "corrected" fix sheet that reported the printers were set to "hyper-print" and then "transporter print" and then "double hyper transporter print" (all in 45minutes!). Remember: falling USD equal inflated prices and inflated prices are the only thing carrying the fractional reserve ponzi markets.
Assets are now coupons that redeem other coupons that can only redeem other coupons and so on and so on and so on ... infinity,
Until further Notice
Thanks, in part to to the efficiency of our counterfeiting operation, there are no buyers in the equity and debt markets. We suggest our member primaries take advantage of our shared accomplishment and eliminate or re-task their HFT program and teams. Since there are no more buyers there is no need for HFT quote stuffing. In fact, there is no need for an index based on "actual" trading. From this point forward we will print what the FED and her advisory board determines the print for a given equity or index should be at any given tick. Again, thanks to those wo participated in this global ponzi coup. As we look forward to the next innovation to assure a continuing profitable crop of slaves are available (when other trinkets of wealth just won't do) and efficiently fed with scraps and crumbs we sweep from our dining tables. God decreed to Abraham that all disposable income held by the commons is our property!
rumour of rebalancing due to dramatic increase in mkt cap. last time they did this the market tanked.
Pretty Good. Better than the Chrysler tripe.
Maybe we would get some real leadership if we stop using the feel good halftime story and use a real situation. It's 5:00 left in the 4th quarter America, you're down by 4 and the other team has the ball.
Blah blah blah melodramatic patriotism. America has always sucked.
America is an idea long ago forgotten.
The illusion of America is finally being realized by middle class white America that the rest of the minorities figured out years back.
The minorities didn't figure shit out or else they wouldn't be supporting Obama. Same goes for your white middle class. Theyz all stupid self agrandizing, melodramatic, spoiled, complacent, charlottenz.
So true. The white middle-class is going Santorum right now. Nuff said.
Well, they're not stupid enough to fall for Obummer again, and they can clearly see Romney's nuts, so what other choice do they have? They don't know what NOTA even means, and Ron Paul, why he wants to take all of their free-stuff!
So, what do junkies do when their drug stops working? Why they get down and dirty with the next best thing to be had. Santorum, jenkum, it's all the same.
You gotta love the Republics. "Let's go back to the 14th century! No birth control for you!" What a bunch of maroons.
You get voted up for using "Maroons".
Its really hard to visualize freedom when the IQ is below 100. The below 100 IQ have always wanted to be a part of the herd.
There is a huge difference between IQ and common sense. Some people with high IQ have a real tendency to believe that they can control things and that leads them towards the top-to-bottom organization thinking. On the other hand, there are some people with lower IQs who could not make it to college but who can still figure out of common sense that you can't "shape society according to your wishes", to paraphrase Hayek.
Agreed. Some of the dumbest people I know have Master degrees and PhDs. It all comes back to the idea that if you can get people to ask the wrong questions, then the answers don't matter. They come to believe any idiocy that emanates from the education system, just because it comes from one of them.
I'd put Krugman at the top of the list, but I don't necessarily believe that he believes what he says, but rather, disseminates BS for "the Cause." Many of his followers, however...
Marx (or Lenin or Trotsky or Stalin, I can't remember) called them "useful idiots"
And, just like everything else, the plutocrats have appropriated you for their own purposes.
There was once a dream that was Rome. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish... it was so fragile. And I fear that it will not survive the winter.
I'm sincerely saddened to have to agree with you. While there were times when people actually worked and had integrity, when our government appeared to be empowered by the consent of the people, when honest and sound money could be saved in confidence, when communities worked together as extended families, when the illusion at least of the american dream was attainable through honest endeavor, when a man could have confidence that his children's future would be better than the present, when a mom could raise her children with morals and love without having to also carry a full time enslavement job, when a man's word was his bond and his handshake a contract... while there were these times in America, I've come to the truth that this was all just a grand illusion built upon lies and blind trust.. built upon war and empire building.. built upon a foundation of evil agendas and service to self elitists.
I look not to a return of the old America, but to the birth of a NEW America. I believe it is possible, for to believe in anything less is to have already lost.
Some of us are still there. When the world is crumbling, there will always be honor.
Tell ya what. You keep up this nonsense of "our government," and you've already lost.
The American Spirit (no, not the cigarette) is the ideal that only people free from the interference of external government can achieve greatness. To be a true American is to be self-governed, and not a ground-down serf which so many sought to escape by coming here.
Problem is, between Lincoln, Wilson, and FDR (and most of the others), there's little freedom left which to create a sustainable society. Instead we have the centralized prison-planet, where all important decisions about your life are made by criminals. Why? Because with freedom, comes responsibility, neither of which the criminals want you to have, as it is the source of their power over you. So you sit, fully disempowered, left only to complain about the theft you cannot even identify.
Like I said, you've already lost.
can "true americans" - the ones you describe as "self-governed" and "free from the interference of external government" - leave the rest of the whole world alone? can those "freedom loving" peoples allow other people the same? can those "freedom" lovers stop hating everyone else? stop their fear of other peoples?
I've yet to see this as even a hope, let alone a reality. all this talk is fictions.
America was free up to 1929.
Make that 1913.
1913 is a good starting point. But I'd go even before that with the birth of national political parties, somewhere in the 1830s I think. The American ideal did not last long in fact.
Never forget the original 13th Amendment too and the "War of 1812."
Maybe, but remember that Andrew Jackson clawed back a lot of ground post-1812 by abolishing the Bank of the United States.
I'd say our current decline dates from 1865 with the establishment of Federal dominance over the States, with Abe Lincoln establishing the precedent that the Constitution can be arbitrarily applied or ignored to suit political ends, and the abomination known as the 14th Amendment.
"original 13th Amendment too and the "War of 1812."
Yeah, those were money battles, but the structrual damage was done with the 17th Amendment.
Wilson not only inflicted the income tax and the Federal Reserve on us, but he fundamentally transformed the nation from a states rights oriented republic into a democracy with a prima donna popularity contest Senate. In the America the founders designed, senators were appointed by the state legislators, and beholding to the states. Clowns like Al Franken and Barack Obama and carpetbaggers like Hillary Clinton or special interest funded hacks would never have made it into the Senate in the genuine United States. We need to rename the country to something like the "Federal Districts of America" now.
Hear, hear.
Madison and Jefferson tried to create a system to withstand "the monied interests" but due to the slavery issue within the party, it was doomed from the start, as that was the fulcrum upon which the lever of power rested.
Then along came Lincoln and the new Republican Party to take advantage of it (the power split, that is, slavery was just a ways to a means).
Great stuff. Only one problem: it's actually seconds left in the fourth quarter and we're down by twenty six points and a half-court three pointer is in mid-air. Even if it goes in, it won't matter.
The game ended trillions of dollars ago.
Guess you like B-Ball better...
... I try to cater to an international audience. Call me a globalist.
The 1% of corporate and political elites set the rules of the game. All we can do is stop playing. That will change things.
Who is this Jabron. Spend a little time in effort in production, use a wind sock and watch the clip meter.
The machines are selling AAPL.

The same machines just pulled the sarape out from under Chipotle, also. Ay caramba.
'Ay caramba.'
You dropped your sloppy burrito too, eh?
"It's not just a burrito. It's a foil-wrapped, hand-crafted, local farm supporting, food culture changing cylinder of deliciousness."
All for a modest 56-multiple.
You've been skullfu- taught! you've been taught well...
Frankly, doesn't everyone believe everything one sees on [60" 3D/HD] TV ? ( I would have written, "Read in the papers," but who reads anymore ? Folks just look at the pitchas.' )
I only look at the purty pitchas'.

I should have qualified my statement.
Only the purty pitchas,' nat'rally. ;)
I'm in <3.
The game ended for "America" some time ago and America lost.
but maybe it's half time in Newmarica, whatever that is.
How about Nuremberg style Trials for bankers and politicians? Talk about getting teevee ratings.
Except in this case the defendants would actually be guilty
I don't necessarily agree with you, but that was very funny, thanks!
I've mentioned this before; how about a cultural revoulution? Send the politicians and bankes to the fields to dig holes and break rocks
They would go down exactly like the first TARP vote defeat.
Absolute. Chaos.
Market. Collapse.
Remember, TPTB operate on the "do as I say and nobody gets hurt" methodology. Meanwhile, they've installed trip-wires on every exit. Just ask Celente.

Can you remind me again what the World Bank is for? I honestly don't know, or care.
They hold title to all of the world's impoverished people.
"Have we strayed from our ideal."
While I don't wish to demean this well intended mash-up of the Clint Eastwood Super Bowl commercial....I must question how valid or even realistic the so called American Dream ideal ever was. For every person who hit it big here in America there were (and still are) thousands who "paid" for that success. The American Dream illusion was sustained because everyone's standard of living rose for many decades in America. But that rise was not even by any stretch of our imagination. Not even close.
The real question is this. How much further would the "other' people's standard of living have risen if the 'spoils' had been more evenly distributed. The only reason the standard of living rose like it did in America was to sate and pacify the teeming masses. It was not an even bargain and never was. And this doesn't even take into count the damage we did by exporting most of our war and inflation.
You just summarized the whole AAPL manufacturing ecosystem in 2 paragraphs.
i love that tree hugging hippies will be the first to boycott Jessica Simpsons if a whiff or hint leaks that some cloths are made in sweatshops. But when it comes to their iDevices, they look the other way. How many bill in yuan does aapl have? The PRC should just confiscate that and give it back to the masses.
When's the last time you spoke to a "tree hugging hippie"?
Was it EVER?
Everytime i walked past occupy nyc. They were more like ipad hugging hippies though.
Yeah, that's bullshit.
iPride
Excellent point.........one i have pondered my entire life........if our system is so good and decent, why can it not be replicated in say North Korea or Chad?.........
'Up to now, America has not been a good milieu for the rise of a mass movement. What starts out here as a mass movement ends up as a racket, a cult, or a corporation.'
--Eric Hoffer
There was never anything wrong with the "American Dream" but unfortunately it has degenerated into a Nightmare. We're now somewhere between a cult, racket and corporation. Why? Many reasons but the forefront as always with Empire: moral decay.
I was asking if the American Dream ideal was ever valid or realistic, not if it was wrong.
All idea[l]s are valid. Reality is subjective.
If reality is subjective, I'm sure you won't mind the jack booted thugs "borrowing" everything you have and "playfully prodding" you into a woodchipper.
Reality is NOT subjective. You can choose to interpret reality as you like, but that doesn't change the fact that what is is.
No, given it was premised on inputs only temporarily available... thus the ideal was temporary. It certainly fails the realistic requirement... although it might have been valid for a blink of an eye.
What, you trying to say that the US is fresh out of continents to Manifest Destiny and Monroe Doctrine? Bite your tongue sir!
You guys just came so close to nailing it. Please let me help in my own humble way.
America happened the way it did because it was a safety valve. Those who were unhappy being serfs in Europe came here. Now, as GF pointed out, there are no more new continents to conquer. TPTB shoot themselves in the foot by stifling the development of space. Now the malcontents are trapped and will have no choice (sooner or later) but to remake this world, as there are no other they can travel to.
CD:
Yep, it was, at least in my experience. Brits, Scots, French Canadians (x2), Russians, Germans, Eyetalians, No Irish Need Apply, ... So, therefore, currently, prospects towards the American Dream must be snuffed out.
c.f. All the previous waves of immigration. Common thread? Out from under the thumb of (lets face it, Euro/Communist/Totalitarian/... current practices, let alone Mexico ...). Of course, much of the "overlord" practices (the whole hierarchy) came along with, as well. But there was a path out. Maybe still (I'm sure still, but then again, the Chicago methods are stifling the sparks and small flames). And yes, CEO of BET, Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, THE Dr. Walter E. Williams, blow up the race bating arguments.
Ideal? Proven, case closed. Realistic? Not for everyone, matter of the right kind of hard work, takes smarts of many intertwingled types, takes luck, takes perseverence. Might take desperation, might take launching beyond one's experience (comfort zone not included).
"The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations" argues against the American Dream. So do handouts.
