Bill Daley Barely Lasts One Year Under Obama - President To Discuss Live At 3 PM

Tyler Durden's picture

Remember when the hiring of former Wall Street insider and JP Morgan career man, Bill Daley, by the Obama administration as its latest Chief of Staff was big news last January? Well so much for that. The LA Times reports that the detente between Obama and Wall Street has reached new levels, with Daley's resignation expected to be announced at 3 pm by the president and is to be replaced by Citi's Jacob Lew, who in turn was the guy who oversaw the bank unit that "shorted the housing market." Well, at least Obama now knows to keep away from the JPM crew, whose Jamie Dimon is not all that happy with the president, if he wishes to avoid looking like not only the Wall Street's patsy, but also the guy who fails at sloppy seconds.

From the LA Times:

William Daley is stepping down as White House chief of staff and budget director Jack Lew is taking over the President Obama’s team as it heads into a tough election year, senior administration officials say.

Daley gave his letter of resignation to the president in a private meeting in the Oval Office last week, recounting the administration's successes of his one year on the job and saying it was time for him to return to his hometown of Chicago.

Obama plans to announce the change in leadership in a public event Monday afternoon. The official shift will take place at the end of the month, giving Lew time to complete the administration’s budget proposal while Daley leads the team through the crafting of the State of the Union address due in two weeks.

The choice of Lew puts a veteran staffer of the White House, Capitol Hill and State Department in a critical position at a difficult time for the president. Obama hopes he can work through tough budget and economic issues with Congress this year despite fierce opposition from Republicans in the GOP-led House. Having a strong team captain who can deal with lawmakers, staffers and business leaders is considered crucial to their strategy.

But aides say Obama had faith in Daley to lead that effort, and that he had not been discussing making any changes prior to last week. Daley’s letter took the president by surprise, said three officials familiar with the personnel discussions that followed. They requested anonymity to speak about the internal talks in advance of the public announcement.

The presidential address to explain how Daley has more pressing family obligations can be hear here live at 3pm, with the now customary 45 minute fashionably late delay.

Chicago... of course.

Clusterfuck nation when you can 'sample' positions like Chief of Staff...

What a complete farce we have here, and now... the re-election begins.

Of course Jamie Dimon is upset.  He is completely incapable of running a free-market corp.  He needs inside info, commodities to manipulate, and leaked info from the gov to make it go.

Jamie Dimon epitomizes the first-class loser.  Only because he is, not because I said so.

He has exactly what he needs. He has a government that can't even fill out a work order form. So the companies that are leeched onto it fill them out and sell the government a bunch of shit they can't sell to anyone else. Making the government supplied with useless crap. Making it exactly what they need. A place full of useless crap that they can't use any of it to figure out what they need.

Their computers are probably programmed to spit out buy useless crap at the end of every report. They just have a rotation to stand in line to be the most important useless crap supplier right now.

Romney? Not likely, but his departure is probably either the result of a more lucrative opportunity, his past dealings catching up with him, or flat out incompetence. The guy could barely manage a couple rental properties in Bridgeport let alone a presidential chief of staff position.

He passed the one year mark.  Was Daley granted the capital gains tax exemption on his JPM stock when he took the high-level government position? Does anybody know?  Granted the job was not strictly a senior financial position, but that may be a distinction that was blurred.

The GOP doesn't have anyone dynamic and different enough from Obama to motivate the indies to vote for. Romney is too similar to Obama, so they will stick with a known person vs unknown...even if they don't like Obama. Gingrich has wayyyy too much baggage hopping from wife to wife, he looses the female vote big time. Paul will never get the nomination because the GOP won't allow it. He is too radical for them...even if his economic ideas are correct. Santorum is too far right to pull independents....the rest are so non-motivational they would get decimated.

Unless the economy tanks (which it may) soon...though I think the Fed would immediately QE3-4 in a heart beat to keep that from happening...or a Black Swan event comes along that shows pure incompetence on Obama's part (enough that even couch potatoes get it)...we will see 4 more years. I think people will stick with familiar.

"When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes... Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain."

The Ulsterman Report's "White House Insider" called this one quite a while ago. He says that Daley was brought in by the people that put Obama in power in order to reassert control of the Obama white house. Despite coming from Chicago, Daley is not part of Obama's Chicago mafia. Daley leaving so soon implies that Obama is one step closer to being thrown overboard by the PTB, most likely in favor of Romney. Search Ulsterman's archives for the "White House Insider". Good stuff.

Mon, 01/09/2012 - 17:04 | 2047657 NotApplicable

WHI guy seems like another false hope story in order to generate interest in the election. Why? Because there's no way the plan to destroy everything needs Obummer to work. To insinuate that one of the stooges on the stage today would stop it, is beyond belief. He identifies the Fed's destructive nature as the most important idea in the upcoming election, yet offers not a single hint as to how Obummer's defeat accomplishes anything.

Better yet? His "voting for the first time, ever" mea culpa. Really, can this get any cornier?

Also, why does Ulsterman refer to the Dees illustration as an attempt to label Dr. Paul as an anti-Semite? Anyone who is familiar with Dees work (or that can see the Z in the Star of David) would recognize it's an attempt to label the Fed as a Zionist org which is attempting to discredit Dr. Paul.

All in all, I have a hard time believing that either of these people are operating at face-value, as there's just too many holes in their characters.

(edit: ok, I get it now. I read some more of the older stuff, and see that WHI is one of the draft-Hillary politicos "securing a primary challenger.")

Don't confuse his two sources-- "Wall Street Insider" and "White House Insider". "Wall Street Insider" is a relatively new source, and has a different perspective than "White House Insider". Even though the two "Insiders" are acquainted, they don't agree on everything, and have entirely different backgrounds.

Also, if you read the archives, how did you get that WHI is trying to draft Hillary? Maybe it's been awhile since I read his older stuff, but I don't remember him putting any faith in Hillary. In fact, WHI is quite openly rooting for a Republican to beat Obama, even though he is a longtime Democratic operative, and worked on the Obama campaign the first time around. He is that terrified of a 2nd Obama term.

Durant: Is it a villain you want? I'll play the part. After all, what is a drama without a villain? What is the building of this grand road if not a drama? This business is not for the faint of heart. It is a thorny, brutal affair that rewards the lion for his ferocity. But what of the zebra? What of the poor zebra? Well, the zebra's eaten, as the zebra should be. Make no mistake, blood will be spilled, lives will be lost, fortunes will be made. There will be patrail and scandals, and perfidy of epic proportions, but the lion - shall - prevail! You see, the secret I know is this. All of history is driven by the lion. We drag the poor zebra, kicking and braying, staining the earth with its cheap blood. History doesn't remember us fondly, but then history is written by the zebra for the zebra. One hundred years hence, when this railroad spans the continent, and America rises to be the greatest power the world has seen, I will be remembered as a caitiff, a malefactor, a lone wolf who operated out of greed for pure personal gain. All true, all true, but remember this: without me and men like me, your glorious railroad would never be built.
