Bill Maher "Applauds" Ron Paul, Calls Paul Detractors "Brainwashed Liberals"

Tyler Durden's picture

When Bill Maher, hardly a conservative, says that he applauds Ron Paul on his positions, and calls those Paul detractors in his audience "brainwashed liberals" it is safe to say we have seen it all. And so, once again, Ron Paul is officially cool.

If Maher thought Ron Paul was a real threat to Obama he'd be whistling a different tune...and he only mentions one issue worth applauding anyway  (how many liberals think Obama is ending our wars too quickly? ).

And from a Dem point of view, it makes the most sense to "support" the candidate most likely to split the GOP vote.

He's hardly sticking his neck out here as he lamely attempts to appear "politically incorrect".

Maher really does share many of RPs values, as a Liberal I share many of RPs values, the thing is that I will not back a candidate with zero integrity like Gingrich or Romney, but I would vote for Paul.  At least with Paul you know what you're getting.

We liberals want to end corporate welfare as much as "conservatives" wish to end personal welfare, and these things are really two sides to the same coin which is that the government taxes people to give the money to someone else... which must be ended if the country has a realistic chance of survival in a meaningful way.

This is why I oppose SOPA, the MIC, Farm subsidy, the occupation of the rest of the world, etc.

Government Regulations should not be used to exclude people from markets and protect market share for others, but at the same time, we can't have companies dumping benzine where ever thy wish and sharks putting idiots into debts they cannot pay back.

+1 Merc.

Their strategy is to split the GOP vote in the "hope" that the weakest is chosen. But I don't think it really matters as any one of the candidates...as flawed as every one of them are in their own way...is 1000% better than O'Barry.

Its really the only card they have when you think about it.

What will O'Barry run on? Crony capitalism & Solyndra/GE/LightSquared et al, Fast & Furious, Dodd-Frank, ObamaCare and spending more than any other president before him?...lol.

They're dead meat and they know it...they'll be lucky to hold the Senate IMO.

"These (welfare and entitlement) programs that the Democrats have pushed...we thought we
were doing the right thing but we actually have created generations of
dependency, and now we have to admit that they have not worked and
that they were mistakes."-Bob Beckel

Unfortunately, quite a few "brain washed liberals" think Mahr is brilliant and he does influence people because he is a "celebrity" and sounds like he knows what he's talking about. IMHO Mahr is nothing more than a brain washed Progressive who is flying a false flag if he has anything good to say about RP. Maybe the Soros/Obama Machine believes RP would be easier to defeat that the others.  We shall see.

Perhaps we can take Maher at his word when he states that RP is closer to his foreign policy heart than BHO.

He has not been inconsistent regarding wars of aggression.

It occurs to me that this is an attempt at intellectual honesty. Something we need much more of, but is in very short supply among partisans.

I have personally attempted to transcend my own self indoctrination (leaning to the right) and have observed the same effort by many on the left.

There is no utopia, right or left, but intellectual honesty is always a step in the right direction.

But I suppose even a sack of shit is right once a day, if you attach it to the top of a pole, and bury some of his guests around it with their heads poking up out of the sand at mathematically precise intervals, to make a sort of liberal-shit-head sundial.

Of course if one supports a candidate, he must agree with everything the candidate does or says at all times.  Slamming the candidate one day and yet supporting him on balance the next day does not compute.  It's a black and white world out there, isn't it Trav.  It's called complex thinking and seeing two sides to an argument.  Try it sometime.

@ trav. No, Maher, who I personally think is a jerk, has never slammed Paul. In fact, I jhave seen nearly every comment about Paul by Maher, including his interviews with him.

Maher likes Paul's positions on Foreign Policy and Civil Liberties. THAT is why he is so friendly with Paul.

One comment that Maher once made that really stuck out at me - giving me insight as to why such an strange bedfellow relationship exists is this... He once said something along the lines, to paraphrase..

"You know, you would think that Ron Paul's positions on social issues drive me crazy, and they do... But I like Ron Paul. I really do. Here's why. He is spot on with America's foreign policy and is often the only person of authority to openly and consistently admit what we all think but are afraid to say. Also, when it comes to civil liberties he's the only person on the national stage that, when we hear that tired cliche of "America the free", repeatedly shows that the emperor has no clothes. But most importantly, Ron Paul is consistent, day in and day out. He means what he says and says what he means."

I vividly remember those comments. Let me see if they are on YouTube and I'll post them.

I remember back in 07/08 Neil Cavuto was literally LAUGHING in Ron Paul's face during one of the intervews. Completely disrespectful.

NOW, Neil Cavuto LISTENS to RP. He actually asks relatively 'fair' questions to RP now.

My real fear is that RP doesn't get the nomination. Then, much like his prediction about the housing bubble, a full blown currency crises will descend on us, which, by then RP will likely have passed on, and there will be NO HOPE.

Whether he gets the nomination or not isn't as relevant as the fact that RON PAUL HAS WON.

How? Newt Gingrich is talking about a gold standard and a gold commission.

Huntsman was talking about bringing the troops home.

Perry spoke about closing cabinet level departments.

The only position Ron Paul hasn't managed to sway any of the other's yet is on foreign policy. ANd that's because the establishment requires WAR to stay in power.

I don't expect comedians to have the slightest understanding of economics, but it IS important that they speak out about drug legalization.  Many economically informed people do not sufficiently appreciate how the "War on Drugs" (gag) started by Nixon, and coincident with closing the gold window, is at the root of the runaway political corruption in Amerika, the growth of the prison-industrial system, and the loss of respect for the police.

Maher is a mental lightweight, and I haven't found him funny for years, he's too damn smug, for one thing, just like the brainwashed liberals who watch him, but it is nevertheless very good news for Ron Paul, and the world in general, that Maher says nice things about him, because there are MILLIONS of Amerikans whose vote is determined by comedians.

Oh, and I have nothing against Jewish, or half-Jewish, comedians, it's just that they shouldn't be in control of the banks, the media, and military.  Except in Israel, of course!

My own mother the other day asked me who I liked, and I said Ron Paul was the only logical choice. She said, "Oh....he seemed really dumb in the debates, some of the things he was saying were just...*disgusted face*."

So I said, "You tell me what you don't like about his views, and I'll tell you why you're wrong."

Then there was awkward silence. So she's now my new project.

Sad but true. Vast majority of Americans hasn't had their "Dorothy Moment" just yet. The FED is an institution right up there with organized religion, the church, Mount Rushmore and Nascar.

The day that Americans wake up and realize they've been completely abused and manipulated for decades, that day will be the end of times.

Most just don't get that that FED inflation "target" is nothing more that a tax on wealth compounded each year.  If you told them the government has been taking 2-4% of their wealth/savings every year forever they would look at you like you're crazy.  But its been doing that at a 2-4% clip since 1913.

that's what's dawned on me lately.

I love Ron Paul's ideas, passion and his mission of individual liberty.

I realised what the problem is, why its so difficult to get mainstream acceptance. And it comes down to the maturity of the US population. People here are not grown up. People don't actually want freedom.

They pay lip service to freedom. They don't realise with freedom, comes responsibility. No one wants to take responsibility. Everyone wants to blame someone else for their problems. They don't want to be free and let things

The few Americans who DO take responsibility and DO SOMETHING about it, are the one's who are rich and successful (crony capitalists aside).

Ever notice how, in this country, it's not 'your' fault you're fat. It's not 'your' fault you're unemployed. It's not 'your' fault you're in debt. It's always because of someone else.

Now if only there was a libertarian that:

  • Didn't thoughtlessly assume that every business person was some kind of hero.
  • Didn't rail against poor people not paying taxes, while at the same time turning a blind eye to the richest people not paying any taxes.
  • Had the slightest inkling about just how harmful the modern concept of a corporation is.
  • Didn't blindly accept some outdated concept of property that says that we own chunks of the Earth, and can do whatever which we please with them. A libertarian that could actually imagine a human as a steward of the Earth, and not its master.
  • Didn't always blame just the government side when governments and corporations colluded to rape and pillage the people and the planet.
  • Didn't foolishly believe that the market would solve any problem of scarcity before it actually became a problem.

Now that would be much, much cooler than a liberal that understood economics!

Typical bullshit.

While Ron Paul is a strict consitutionalist when it comes to federal powers, the BILL OF RIGHTS... which enumerates rights EVERY INDIVIDUAL HAS NATURALLY is the ultimate 'law of the land'. INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS is what Ron Paul is ultimately championing.

You could have local governments enforcing whatever biblical law they wanted, however, they would NEVER be able to IMPOSE that on YOU since you have an INDIVIDUAL right to practice your own religion. And if you owned a house smack in the middle of a religious nut job local government's district, they would not be able to FORCIBLY remove you from your abode due to private property rights.

Why do people NEVER understand this about libertarianism. PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS and NO VIOLENCE. NO local, state or federal government law can violate those. THAT would be the 'proper' role of the federal government, to ensure state and local governments do not violate citizen's individual rights.

Since the government hasn't outlawed the sun do we all have skin cancer? FUCK NO. we know to stay out of the fucking sun when its hot (well except for dumb people on the beach). Why is the overarching train of thought in society that if the government doesn't control it then it will automatically be out of control?

Just because we want a decentralised government AS ORIGINALLY intended for this country (hence the 'federal republic'), it doesn't mean that it automatically denegrates into a bunch of fiefdoms with tribal / religious warfare.

This is what he says--

>>>At the John Birch Society 50th anniversary gala, Ron Paul spoke to another favorite theme of the Reconstructionists and others in the religious right: that of the "remnant" left behind after evil has swept the land. (Gary North's publication is called The Remnant Review.) In a dispatch on Paul's keynote address, The New American, the publication of the John Birch Society, explained, "He claimed that the important role the JBS has played was to nurture that remnant and added, 'The remnant holds the truth together, both the religious truth and the political truth.'"<<<
