Boston Bruins Goaltender Releases Statement Explaining Absence From Obama Meeting

Tyler Durden's picture

While his colleagues from the Boston Bruins were visitng the White House earlier today, goaltender Tim Thomas was absent. Here is his personal explanation for why he did what he did. We can only hope more role-models follow in his footsteps.

Thomas statement on White House absence (via the NHL)

"I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.

This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.

Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.

This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT"

Does one have to be a Tea Partier like Thomas to be an honorary ZH'er? Is that who this website is exclusively for? Zzzzzzzzzzz. I just had an episode of narcolepsy imagining that.

Oh, & to those who single out hockey players as not being the brightest guys around....they may not be members of mensa, but there are increasing number of college players in the game, and compared to especially football & basketball, these guys generally have a good head on their shoulders (when they aren't concussed).

Both stood up to the government creeps.

If they had the elections tomorrow, either
one would win by a landslide.

It is rare in today's age to see anyone in the media's light display such integrity and guts.

Maybe those who would lead us into the pit would read what this man had to say and clean up their act, but I am not expecting anyone to do so,  except for Ron Paul and his kind to give any credibility to this statement.

Then again, we haven't seen anything yet.  Most of the sheeple worship these athletes and support them by wasting their precious time on this earth going to endless repetitive games, year after fucking year, and buying worthless memorabilia.

I'll know Americans are starting to wake up when these sports leagues disappear and nobody gives a shit.  Until then, it's hard not to yawn.

That is the thing about being part of a corporation, or an organization (hockey football team). Your personal views/opinions are subverted to the team....to the corporation.

The problem with the constant subversion in favor of the teams or the corporates interests, is it is a slippery slope. And before you know it you have subverted the crimes of Jerry Sandusky in favor of the glory of Joe Paterno's football legend and the interests of Penn State.

One's personal political ethical stance always matters. And perhaps we need to start using our voice again, and quit dancing to whatever corporate interests we repersent in our professional lifes.

People need to learn.  There ARE no "organizations".  All organizations are fictions, and are so deemed in long-standing fundamental law as "fictitious entities".  Therefore, what WAS invited to the WH was several individuals.  That one was wise and brave enough to "just say no" is wonderful.

Wow... sports figures are rarely authorities on politics and government, but Tim has the right idea. Now, at the other end of the spectrum, if we can only convince John Elway that he is a LOSER for doing those snitch-on-your-neighbor Gestapo commericals.

The following video is Superbowl MVP John Elway making a complete ass of himself, gushing his support for the government and the Gestapo... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVs6kVAwAwg

All these repug sheeples never complained about freedom when Bush bought in the Patriot act or spent trillions of Tax payer money to secure contracts for Bectel and Halliburton in Iraq, now complaining bout Obama like he's done something major that infringes the constitution, the only thing Obama has done is FUCK ALL, if someone here can specifically name one policy he has implemented that is unconstitutional I'll agree with them, my problem with Obama is he's done nothing- about bank fraud, US torture, stupid foreign policy, debt, etc.

MORONS.

All the people who think this guy is a great hero are exactly the same ones who were too scared/stupid to protest when the patriot act was rammed thru.

Thomas is a registered Republican and has stated that the person he would most like to have dinner with is Glenn Beck!

"I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People"

When some wingnut celebrity says the above it's called patriotism, when a progressive liberal does it (patriot act/OWS) it's called treachery.

Welcome to the struggle, us Liberal progressive types have been fighting it for the 7 years before the black guy took over.

While you were all riding the bush's gravy train to Cashville, we were being spat on and pepper sprayed by people like you for trying to warn about the dangers of the patriot act.

I'm not bitter..................Honest.

Personally i have used traceroute to locate the phyical address of all comments posters on ZH who refer to phyical PM's and stocks of food, ammo or fuel on their land, these loners will be the first visited during the collapse by me and my hungry team of resource redistribution operatives.

tt refused to lend his fame to a political
event, this is out of order and divisive to
the hero following herd mentality that is at
the root of this ancient technique of social
control, talent and quality lent out to give
credence in a social manner to anti social
policies and controls. conformity challenged !
next thing you know he will refuse to do
cola commercials.
he is opting out of the cult of personality
status sharing with the political establishment.
is that so bad? will he lend his status to some
other political figure? will he reject the entire
concept of mass mind modulation through fame and
the group tendency to be open to those manipulations?
and so what? what would Joseph Goebbels say?

Bush league. Taking an event meant to celebrate and honor his TEAM and turning it into a platform for his political views (right or wrong, doesn't much matter) was amateur hour. What happened to taking one for the team, Mr. Thomas?

Look, we all agree that the Goobermint is naughty - fine. Sing it from the subway, the shower, the rooftops or your goalie crease - I don't much care. Think about his young and un-jaded teammates - going, as champions, to the White House to meet and be congratulated by the President of the United States (the same United States that gives him the rights to speak his mind and earn $5M a year playing a game) and their glory being overshadowed by Mr. Thomas' juvenile dispaly of semi-patriotic grandstanding.

Let the flame wars begin, but as Herb Brooks said: "You're looking for players whose name on the front of the sweater is more important than the one on the back." Mr. Thomas forgot that yesterday.

Farmer writes "Mr. Thomas' juvenile dispaly of semi-patriotic grandstanding" LMFAO. Semi-patriotic? How the fuck did you ever deduce that from TT's eloquent and well written statement? Perhaps reading (doubt you read any of it) our Constitution or Bill of Rights. Simpler yet, read the full, unedited (think revisionist) statements or speeches of any of the founding fathers. You are clearly over your head here at ZH. Try a site where NOT thinking critically is lauded as being "smart".

None of his "young and un-jaded" teammates from the Cup team, except for the never-heard-of Steve Kampfer, are U.S. citizens.  So Thomas has a virtually unique perspective on this.

What is important here is not the timing and place of TT's public statement, but that he exhibited something in critically short supply and that is standing for what one believes in the face of possible great personal and professional cost. I am quite certain his decision was not made lightly. These are his teamates and this is at minimum the national stage if not an international one.

One can disagree with his action and/or reasons, but no one can argue that it took significant strength of character for TT to stand his ground and let the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one. TT brought to light in stark fashion the cause of freedom and advanced it in a way few of us could, and we (Constitutional minded) Americans are all much better for it. imho. Whether I agree (I do) or not, Mr. Thomas commands my utmost respect.

...interesting, Bruins Goalie declares the White House represents contempt, and then the Bruins pull their Goalie as Rosemary's Baby declares the State of The Union, defining the contempt, and the Washington Capitols score on an empty goal and win the hockey game.

What's next, a debt ceiling speech in front of the the White House with the Washington Monument over Rosemary's Baby's shoulder ,,,before the Carlyle Group pays to repair the earthquake damage which shut down the beast? LMAO!
