There was a time when catching the silver "whack-a-mole" algo, or process, or intervention, or manipulation, or whatever one wants to call it, in action was a myth: an urban legend, perpetuated by silver conspiracy theorists. Until today that is. Courtesy of Nanex we now have direct evidence of just what the reflexive market (in which derivative products such as ETFs influence underlying assets) goes to town by taking silver to the woodshed at a whopping 75,000 times per second! From the broken market sleuths at Nanex: "On March 20, 2012 at 13:22:33, the quote rate in the ETF symbol SLV sustained a rate exceeding 75,000/sec (75/ms) for 25 milliseconds. Nasdaq quotes lagged other exchanges by about 50 milliseconds. Nasdaq quotes even lagged their own trades -- a condition we have jokingly referred to as fantaseconds." Translation: so desperate was the desire to crush silver at precisely 13:22;33, that the Nasdaq order flow directive ended up moving faster than light. Frankly, we don't know about you, but when someone is willing to bend the laws of relativity, just to get a cheaper price in silver, to perpetuate a failing monetary system or for any other reason, we quietly step aside...

Trav wasn't a troll. He was a contributor... enough times for me to tolerate just about anything else he felt like saying. Whether finance or geopolitics (his specialty IMO) he brought it. And it wasn't always pretty. So? And whatever he said, at least he believed it. He'd often provide data (his) to support his positions.
And as far as his position regarding silver (he's sittin' on a fat stack I know it) IT COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT. The fact that its even an "issue" should be enough to make anyone sick here.

Trav WAS a contributor here, I agree, and a valuable one too --- initially. But over time, his posts became less and less significant and thought-provoking, eventually ending up being almost a continuous string of personal attacks, shallowly racist twaddle and blindly hateful attacks on "silverbug bagholders". But I can only presume that it was ONLY his continual abusive attacks that got him banned.

Problem is: Merely banning an account of DNS or IP will not make him and his colegues go away at all (at least, not in a public network that has no technical understanding of trust).

No vic, this thread hasn't been pointless at all. Not for me. I'm sure that you've noticed I'm not online with the general 'Libertarians for the further deregulation of the banks' meme that pervades ZH, and that being the case I am regularly subjected to multiple opponents on almost any comment I make, unless it is merely superficially humourous.
I've held out olive branches many times to these people, and have been rebuffed almost without fail. What bothers me the most about this is that, at the heart of things, we ultimately agree on much much more than I think they are willing to admit. But the absolutist nature of an ideologue means that compromise to the slightest degree, regardless of how pragmatic, reasonable, or even necessary the concession is, it is unthinkable, like a heresy. And while it may be entertaining to watch them desperately try to smash square pegs into round holes, you can't make any real headway with a zealot because they have have gone so far down their own particular rabbit hole as to be unable to process any new information that doesn't conform to their ideal.
Eg. Awhile back I attempted to develop a rapport with MWEWN by initiating a sort of complimentary values 'back and forth'. My idea was that I would offer a point I was fairly certain we could both agree to, and he would respond with another that he was fairly certain I could abide as well as him. It failed miserably, but not before I posed two critical conditions where we were on the exact same page. I had two or three more ringers in reserve that I thought were easy chestnuts too, but somehow he didn't/refused to see them, and instead barrelled straight into points where he had to be certain there would be contention. I'm not sure if it was just a matter of principle for him when conversing with me, or if he was too focused on finding out where I reside to pay proper attention to the conversation at hand.
So, when one of my fiercest detractors, one who is on record viciously wishing for my death, and prefaces practically every retort to my comments with deliberate misrepresentations or hyperbolized distortions of my perspective with the apparent intent to discredit any conversation I might enter into before it has even started rolling: when such a poster is shown to be beyond any doubt a liar, yet still attempts to rationalize his way out of the hole he's dug himself into, no I don't let go until he owns up or opts out. To his credit you can see that he eventually did, and I stopped giving him the gears.

Crockett, while I'm a new member, I've been reading it for years. I thought it championed a lack of censorship on the comment thread, and judging by some of the comments, it appeared that way to me.
The fight club meme seems to insinuate a free speech zone, and I thought that some of the comments implied that it was.
If it's not, I would love to see what rules there are so that I don't violate any.

Libertarians value property rights second only to the right to life and limb. The banning of posters by the Tylers is their right and no one else's.

It would be helpful, and informative, if we could collectively know why a given poster was banned on the rare occasion when one is actually banned here. Trav's recent banning seems rather mysterious to me, given the length of time during which he engaged in the same sort of behavior here, and short of there having been some particularly offensive comments made by him which have since been deleted, his banning appears to have been rather arbitrary, as his last several posts give no particular indication of any unusual (for him) behavior or expressions.

As for the first link, since the author says "mine (Fritz's)," I assume that it is Springmeier. I have problems with him, too, but I think that he paints an accurate pic of what's happening, clearly.

Silver came back a bit today. They can manipulate in short bursts on low volume days, but I don't see that as a long term winning tactic.
Market forces exist whether someone is trying to change market perception or not. They may have a degree of success, especially short term, but real demand will make its presence known.
The logic of bugs: if silver falls, its manipulated. If it reaches the stratosphere, it's legit. Oh wait, unless its AAPL, the S&P, and basically any other asset really.

SLV is a prime example when compared to silver spot price. The market suggests there is a problem at COMEX. Must not have physical silver, or have sub par quality silver, or you can't withdraw in silver ounces, etc.

You obviously don't understand gold. In 1971 when we went off of the gold standard completely 1 oz of gold priced at $35 an oz would have bought you a nice suit and tie. Fast forward to today that same 1 oz of gold will still buy you a nice suit and tie. But that $35.00 from 1971 will only buy you a tie. Gold and it's buying power is a relative constant. Fiat is not.
