As Chavez Pulls Venezuela's Gold From JP Morgan, Is The Great Scramble For Physical Starting?

Tyler Durden's picture

In addition to the nationalization of his gold insutry, Chavez earlier also announced that he would recover virtually all gold that Venezuela hold abroad, starting with 99 tons of gold at the Bank of England. As the WSJ reported earlier, "The Bank of England recently received a request from the Venezuelan government about transferring the 99 tons of gold Venezuela holds in the bank back to Venezuela, said a person familiar with the matter. A spokesman from the Bank of England declined to comment whether Venezuela had any gold on deposit at the bank." That's great, but not really a gamechanger. After all the BOE should have said gold. What could well be a gamechanger is that according to an update from Bloomberg, Venezuela has gold with, you guessed it, JP Morgan, Barclays, and Bank Of Nova Scotia. As most know, JPM is one of the 5 vault banks. The fun begins if Chavez demands physical delivery of more than 10.6 tons of physical because as today's CME update of metal depository statistics, JPM only has 338,303 ounces of registered gold in storage. Or roughly 10.6 tons. A modest deposit of this size would cause some serious white hair at JPM as the bank scrambles to find the replacement gold, which has already been pledged about 100 times across the various paper markets. Keep an eye on gold in the illiquid after hour market. The overdue scramble for delivery may be about to begin.

From the CME:

Guy's off his rocker. Rockefeller and his evil twin George HW Bush have been trying to kill Castro forever. In fact, the scum who ran Cuba as a drug trafficking off shore base for Mossad/Bronfman/Meyer Lansky, are the same ones who killed JFK and Che Guevara. Chichi Rodriguez, Mas Canosa etc They ran with E Howard Hunt, Santo Traficante and Theodore Shackley etc

Freaking idiot.

JFK was killed because he wanted to be the real chief executive.  He didn't need nor want the Power Elite's stolen money.  He already had enough of his own.  He wanted the power that the Power Elite had/has instead.  But he didn't and/or wasn't able to cover all the bases.  US notes were just one of many conflicts.  The continued existance of the CIA (and perhaps J Edgar too) were more important and dangerous conficts.

Desperate people do desperate things.

If JFK wanted to take power away from the elite he would not have used EO 11110, as that EO delegated HIS power to issue silver certificates to the Sec treasury.  He gave away power he had.

And well all know that Secs of Treasury are doing the people's bidding, and not the banksters.  I thought the same thing, but he was not killed for EO 11110.

It has to be a state that is hostile to the US currency hegemony or like in the case of france, an "ally" who wants to jump first for fear of being shafted. Germany, IMHO is in too similar a boat as the US to want to upset the fiat currency applecart. What about some place like Switzerland, Austria, Sweden or somebody like that. From Asia is there anywhere like Pakistan that has gold in the vaults of those who spin paper into gold?

Mr. LH, The safest places in the wrld are those with guns?

Some safety, eh? A safety born of mutual fear. FAustian bargains abound. And on the issue of our friend Chavez, I'm sure everyone remembers his second coming from almost being dimped at sea (what a story) to being returned on the basis of massive public protest?

And we all swallowed that almost Bollywoodesque story-line  hook, line and sinker. He is manufactured opposition too. Only controlled assets would be allowed to sit on the kind of Oil VZ has.

As for Ahxmeels assertion about Castro and Rock-yer-fellas, please see Cuba's history just pre-castro et. al. It was the play ground of the Mafia. The same mafia that has been a prominent "controller arm" in the US. The same Mafia that were Grampa Kennedy's partners in Hooch running, that helped JFK get elected with massive "Chicago style" ....errrrrr... "support".  The first and short-lived Catholic presidency almost never happened.

On and on. The threads are there for anyone with the balls to pull the first hanging chad... and see the whole tapestry unravel.

Until one is ready for that, "reality" has enough buffers to continue living a somewhat "normal" existence.

"Any government of the United States that does not plan to dismantle its industrial, military, and technological apparatus has no moral standing from which to express an opinion about any government of the entire world," said Maduro. "Today, Venezuela is a free and sovereign country."

"The United States sustains simultaneous wars in Afghanistan and in Iraq and in addition to this it has investments in the development of weapons of mass destruction," Maduro continued.

Venezuela recently accepted Russia's offer of a credit of approximately $2.2 billion for arms purchases. This comes in addition to a $1 billion credit that Russia granted Venezuela in June, and $4.4 billion in purchases of military planes, helicopters, tanks, and rifles from Russia since 2005.

Venezuela has long held that it is purchasing arms from Russia to obtain necessary upgrades and replacement parts that the U.S., a former supplier to Venezuela, now denies the Venezuelan government.

Maduro also sustained that Venezuela's military strategy is "eminently defensive" and oriented toward the defense of its territory and its natural resources against potential aggression from the U.S.

The U.S., which increased its military spending by 66% over the past decade and is far and away the world's largest military producer and spender, re-activated its navy in South American waters last year and recently signed a deal with Colombia to expand the U.S. military presence on seven Colombian bases."

But that's not what they'll say with their distended bellies hanging out over skeletal legs as flies drink from the edges of their crusty eyes, is it?  No, they'll wish they stayed shut the fuck up when the food doesn't come to them anymore.  Those shiploads of grain that we have so much of that we make kitty litter out of it.  Hell, they'd probably buy it from us after the cats shit it full.

All you mouth breathing idiots down on the US need to realize that if we woke up one morning and decided to tie on a mean drunk that the world would pretty much be fucked, and fucked up well and tough at that.

Why have the Japanese been so goddamn nice and quiet for 60 years?  They tracked shit on the living room rug and ol' Uncle Sam had to drag their ass out to the woodshed.  Hell, one state, Texas, they whipped the piss out of that tin horn shit heel Santa Anna then tarred and feathered his ass before they sent him home.  He was the ruler of a fucking country,  super bad ass and all that.  They tarred and feathered him.  Just for goddamn fun.

Now you can sit there and becry the barbarisms of an earlier age.  Smugly suggest that things like this simply are not done these days.  That all those fat dumb and lazy Americans won't get off their couches.  Well, I know plenty of fucking bored rednecks who would just piss themselves in delighted mirth if they were invited to a tar and feathering.  So all you self righteous, pompous and soft handed moisturizing limp dick metrosexuals had better stop, drop and pray to fucking Gaia, Mammon or whoever the hell you serve that the wheels don't come off.

    I like it.

People do tend to forget what America has been for the last 234+ years.  Every person who would not take any more shit in the rest of the world came here with no promises- just an opportunity to fight.  It's a multi-century eugenics experiment without the inefficiency of central planners to import bloodlines.  Instead of stale cultures and traits inbred for hundreds of generations, the melting pot is a seething caldron of hybrid vigor, seeded with the ornriest blood on the planet.

Reminds me of a conversation I had once with someone several years ago when Martha Stewart got busted for insider trading, and served a little time.  The guy I was talking to was pretty sure that the lady was soft with all her artsy-crafty froo-froo, but my position was that she couldn't be- just like America can't be.  Nobody builds a multi-billion dollar empire by being weak and ineffective.  My money was on her making a shiv from chicken bone in the cafeteria, and stabbing the first bitch that f'ed with her in the neck, no remorse, no hesitation.

No, we haven't rioted yet.  And we're not looting.  No one is banging soup kettles against the sides of banks.  A hush has fallen over the land, and people are just stopping to lift their heads to see what the quiet is about.  The vangard knows what is coming, and everyone who wakes up does as well.  There may be unions, minorities and college students holding signs now- but they aren't America, they are fringe groups.  America, despite all the stupid propiganda, is full to the brim with people who will do anything, even the unthinkable, to protect themselves and their families- until recently, though, "anything" has been confined to markets, shops and boardrooms.  Those very same people are smart enough to have created or gathered over half of the planets resources, so what happens when that creative hand turns to destruction?

When the dam breaks here, it won't be chants and sit-ins.  There will be blood.  No sane person wants it, and only those who don't understand the true amount of excess in American culture can want it to come sooner.  Even our janitors will fight like rabid beasts when the time comes.  It may be better or worse when all is said and done- but the sure thing is that the road to the finish is going to be long and not soon forgotten.

Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Controlled opposition, more likely. The only real good guys are those of us who don't advocate rule over others for their "own good."

There is nothing good about any dictator. The idea that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" is unsound, as there are always more motives than what simply are exposed at the surface. Even Putin serves the elite.

    v. hard to be classicly lib while fighting for existence, but i have studied the moQ and his problems for the last 6 months quite closely on a daily basis.  did you see where NATO, earlier this week, decided to "go for another 3 months"?

    stay the course time?  L0l!!!

the moQ's "reign" is not devoid of certain classical liberal themes;  in spite of the propaganda, maybe his 143 tribes were doing better than we, the french, the british, the italians, and the rest of god-given NATO, put together, 6 months ago.  not today, tho.  the libyans are NWO toast, unless the moQ has a mighty arm tied behind his back.  rivers of blood will flow;  i fear it is mandatory;  the man is bedouin chief, for pete's sake!  and a pretty good one, in my book.  so there!

    Wed, 08/17/2011 - 17:20 | 1570575 tmosley
    tmosley's picture

What we call a ton is technically called a short ton.  A long ton was an old English unit that isn't in use any more.  Now it is either short tons or metric tons, and that's it.

A ton in the UK is 2240 lbs. A tonne is 1000kg (2204 lbs). We never use a short ton.

Because they are near as dammit the same, and we rarely use the imperial system now, so tonne is often written 'ton'.
