The Complete And Uncut Chart Porn Collection
We are once again delighted to bring to our readers The Punch Line: the consumate compendium of economic chart porn available, put together by Abe Gulkowitz, this time titled "The Big Swerve" for obvious reasons. As Abe comments: "There's a growing concern among even the most optimistic investors, companies and households that the United States has either entered a new recession, or never really emerged fully whole from the last great downturn. There is also a worse scenario and fear – that growth going forward could be seriously constrained because of a myriad of overwhelming issues with no quick fix. Even though many of the risks are long-term in scope, enough risks have been elevated in the near term. These concerns are centered on the weakness evident in many key indicators here in the U.S. and also overseas. And they are aggravated by the gauntlet of hurdles facing the euro area this month alone. What’s most disconcerting about the euro stress nightmare is that numerous announcements have already heralded the end of the crisis. Where was all the analysis and the review? Has no one reviewed the reality on the ground in Greece and in the other peripheral European countries at risk? And how deep are the exposures across the major banks? Weakness in a sector such as banking is different than weakness in advertising, for example. Rising vulnerabilities in banking and finance could jeopardize the entire financial system and world economy." What has made the usually cheery Gulkowitz so morose? The 18 pages of charts, headlines and factoids below explain it all.

Reality is the banks are insolvent. Nations are broke.
Reality sucks, but has to faced at some point. Would be nice to move on at some point so we can all work for a life, instead of a living. Problem is the white-collar criminal elitists doing "God's work" have much to lose, so won't go down without a fight.
Has either of these been posted?...
Gold 1980 Deja Vu and Bloomberg's Chart of the Day.
Both via ICYMI.
How funny. This report is a few years late. I think everyone in the know knew that the recession didn't end in 2009.
Looks simply DREADFUL for the commoners Thurston!

Anyone that believes there was a semblance of a recovery has the cognitive ability of a retarded chimpanzee.
I think you're being too generous. Retarded amoeba is better.
retarded amoeba is redundant. just sayin'
That's an insult -- to the chimpanzee.
Wow, this is more fun than the back of a sugar-cereal box! Connect the dots to doom kids!
Don't forget to that the Obama Administration is also running around arbitrarily trying to put great companies out of business (Gibson Guitars), throw taxpayer money at others that don't have a prayer of ever making money (Solyndra) and trying to make everything under the sun a federal crime.
Are you exactly who you say you are on the internet? Better hope so!
damn, I was using a fake birthday on Facebook to throw off the Russian mafia credit fraud dept.
Ask those who owned Chrysler dealerships if being a Republican served them well (it didn't). If you want your business to survive, you have to kiss the hand of the man in charge.
Is that a joke? It was the Obama cramdown/takeover that put them out of business because they backed the wrong candidate in the 2008 election.
It's real and went to court. In the MO/AR area Chrysler dealers that contributed to the Dems got to keep their dealerships. It had NOTHING to do with how the customers would be served, or the quality of the dealership. In fact, several had just completed new buildings and had to fire-sale their assets to the Dem dealer across town.
Thanks and shared. That is nuts!
Tyranny, plain and simple.
Names? We don't need no stinkin' names!
Of course, the scary part about this law is that it can be used to dismantle this version of ZH, and anywhere else where anonymity brushes up against the status quo.
The welfare state necessitates a police state.
This must be bullish.
Chart Pron that shouldn't make my phallus go vaginal since i'm short everything........but QE3 fuckery kills me sexy drive..............
This is the end game of trying to hide the cost of the Vietnam war. The financialization of our economy in the '80s and debt-based growth made everyone feel OK. Heck, we even had 3-4 more wars financed by debt since then.
The MAD pact we have with the Saudis will come unglued at some point, then the petrodollar dies. Gold-backed Yuan steps in, and gave over, man.
It will be NO WHERE near that cut and dry dude. It will go like this; currency wars, trade wars, bullets. The victor will retain the spoils. The Saudis will forever be on our side. The ruling class is out numbered by the Sunni's and they welcome our military might to keep them in power. The Saudis fear the Chinese backed Iranian's. The fight to retain the world reserve currency against the chinese will commence in the middle east. If we can cut off their oil supply we can let the fiat dollar die and roll out the new gold back currency with less military backlash from the red giant. This is why we have stirred up crap in Syria to oust the regime....to cut off the Iranian arms trade route to the Palistinians thus making the process easier. But it wont be.

So what do we do in January when we are told that dollars are no longer accepted as a means of trade? Of course the dollars you have left will be accepted for tax purposes until April 15th. If you do not have enough dollars to retire your tax debt all of your assets will be confiscated so you can be issued Soros. Of course the Great World Union will be happy to let you live in your house for a price. You will also be reassigned a proper job in order to work off your debt. Of course you will never actually be issued any Soros because all of your expenses will be deducted and you will not be allowed to purchase anything out of your assigned means.
This is for the good of the world and the continued safety and prosperity of the elite class.
You do believe the shit? What they've been trying to sell is the BRIC decoupling bullshit, with a particular twist on how the Chinks would save all of us. I say the USD is strong and sound as long as Washington can still get the military to secure the crude. All the rest is just conversation.
So you buy into the horseshit that the US dollar's value is based on another country's natural resources, huh? Why don't you kick that theory around in your head for a while and try to poke holes in it.
tyler, do you ever have days where you say to yourself, "maybe im wrong, maybe they will figure a way out of this"?
Yes, it's called blow the system up so badly that everyone has to accept our gold related fall back system, when we, TPTB have been buying gold after years of kicking the can. Most of these funny money debts will be forgiven. There's no other way to restart the system.
But, who are THEY? When you think about who THEY are, does that inspire confidence?
inspire confidence in what?
inspire confidence in you that they will find a way out of this mess.
I look at TG and BB and others and don't get a warm fuzzy...
i have my moments of doubt, to be honest. when you see such large scale coordinated efforts by sinister entities, it makes me wonder. must be that i didnt take enough of the red pills. the directions on the bottle called for 2 pills a day for 5 days. i think i skipped a few.......

What has changed since 09?
The realization that The Paradox isn't some blogger's joke: it's real, it's here.....
The over-financialized sector of the economy is being kept afloat to the detriment of the rest aka the vital part of the economy (Main Street). That paradox explains why biflation is with us and getting worse, stunting growth. (From today's data alone: CPI in US and others reporting this week UP, employment DOWN, real median incomes for males back to 1973 levels, NY and Philly Fed DOWN)
And there's a political dimension: we've crossed over from capitalism to a fascist political system where the central authorities shower the favored private corporations with the fruits of the labor of the rest of society. We may not be heiling in the streets, but it's a fascist system nonetheless, only differs by degree. A further evolutionary step in that direction may be coming: being forced to not only pay taxes to the favored private corporations, but being forced to work for them and at specified rates.
Its simple really, we are Greece...
Can we get some risk trade updates?
I ain't skeered. I got gold. Party time!

LA Porn Studio Begins Construction On ‘Post-Apocalyptic’ Underground Bunker September 14, 2011 1 http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2011/09/14/la-porn-studio-begins-construction-on-post-apocalyptic-underground-bunker/"There is also a worse scenario and fear.... a myriad of overwhelming issues with no quick fix."
Yes. No one is willing to identify and confront the underlying issues. It is not that there is no quick fix; it is that there is no fix, period. We have passed the catalyst in Strauss and Howe's fourth turning and are now plunging toward the climax.
Recovery? What recovery? To have a recovery from a fall - first you must stand up! Not just attempt to stand up. From Main streets point of view the attempt was feeble at best and has failed miserably.
So no, no recovery. No double dip. Still attempting to stand up!
Help! I've fallen and can't get up! Coming up over three years now. I would say depression.
