it's amazing watching this whole theater face play out, cause you already know this is all about Iran anyways, get Damascus and Tehran becomes a bit easier of a nut to crack especially if the new pro western regime can be "convinced" to give the Russians the boot.
It sure as hell has 0 to do with protecting civilians, just like Libya, as Dempsey stated going after Syria's AA system will cause significant civilian casualties, which completely cancels out the whole idea of "protecting" them in the first place.
and if in the attempt the US causes civilian deaths and still Assad is able to use the AA system to repel the airstrikes, maybe also inflicting casualties on US military forces as well, what then? does that not strengthen Assad's position?
it doesn't appear that the Assad regime can be toppled by airstrikes alone, his military is not being bled by the mass defections that Qaddafi's was, not to mention it is much larger, better equipped, trained, organized and funded than Libya's was, and it appears to be firmly under the command of the regime, so I don't see how anything short of a full on war including ground troops, is going to remove Assad from power so long as the military remains loyal.

Thanks JP but I would say that most on this site (aside from the paid trolls) were aware of the farcical nature of government information (either geopolitical or economic) for a long time. We don't "take stock" in opinions because people ask us to, we do it when their resoning and evidence is solid. Don't ask for respect, earn it.

But let's not forget what president and his party currently preside over a record death toll in Afghanistan and US troops/intelligence forces involved in nine conflicts in MENA and Central Africa. Now this administration is making noise on Iran and Syria. Some Nobel Peace Prize winner! On top of Executive Order used to assassinate US citizens overseas and rampant spying on our own citizens. Oh, and we're not totally out of Iraq yet.

I thought I've never agree with Ron Paul on this, but he's 100% correct. Once you step back and honestly look - it's all war propoganda. We have no idea who the opposition was/is in Libya, and now Sryia, but we want to bomb the regime? It's crazy. We are literally murdering people. And don't forget the war drums on Iran and build up.
Someone once said McCain acts as if the Vietnam War never ended, and I agree with that. But besides McCain, these people want to bomb and attack virtually the entire Islamic Middle East in the name of "Democracy" and nation-building.
