Does Obama Pay Less Taxes Than His Secretary?

Tyler Durden's picture

Courtesy of the class division SWAT team, we already know all too well that Buffett had a lower tax rate than this secretary. We however have a question: according to just released data, the Obama's paid $789,674 in taxes in 2011...

  • OBAMAS PAID 20.5% IN TAXES ON $789,674 IN 2011

From Bloomberg: "President Obama, wife Michelle had adjusted gross income of $789,674 in 2011, paid $162,074 in taxes, according to federal tax returns released by White House."

Source: White House

So... inquiring minds want to know if the Fairness Expert in Chief paid less than his secretary in 2011?

Apparently, taxpayer-funded don't count toward "income."

SilverTree's picture

Who fucking cares? I haven't payed/filed my taxes in years. Fuck-em.

GOSPLAN HERO's picture

Obamas' tax return did not include kickbacks from unions, GE and solar firms.

TheFourthStooge-ing's picture

kickbacks from unions, GE and solar firms were not counted

That's because those go to "special fund" (wink wink nudge nudge) which makes a net positive contribution directly to GDP.

It's a very complicated method of accounting. Nobody but PhD economists can understand the many-faceted veneer of complexity surrounding the government's mathematical models; this is why we should simply accept what they say.

Tyler, congrats, you made Drudge. <3

Ahmeexnal's picture

The "Fearless Golfer", the "Wisest of the Wise", the "Ringleader of the Thieves" paid less taxes than his caddy??

The libtards will retort to that with: "At least he's not a republican"

Carl Spackler's picture

How does Obama take a $5,911.00 SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX DEDUCTION ?

The Buffet Rule needs to include the elimination of "business expense" deductions for politicians' book publishing activities to bring their tax rates up to that of secretaries.

Pure Evil's picture

Yeah, but did you see that $49,000 he stuffed away in his Keogh?

All tax free!

johnnymustardseed's picture

Did someone miss this on purpose???

The President and First Lady also reported donating $172,130 – or about 22% of their adjusted gross income – to 39 different charities. The largest reported gift to charity was a $117,130 contribution to the Fisher House Foundation. The President is donating the after-tax proceeds from his children’s book to Fisher House, a scholarship fund for children of fallen and disabled soldiers

He also paid $31,941 in state taxes

veyron's picture

Romney tithed, which is why his headline number is 13.5%.  However, while the liberal media accepted that tithing counts as donations, the conservative pundits don't like to consider charitable donations as tax deductible unless its to the heritage foundation.

nmewn's picture

So did Obama cut a check to the Treasury to make up for ripping off his secretary...ala the Buffet Rule he's pushing?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say nyet Bucky. How about all the other millionaires in Congress?

GOSPLAN HERO's picture's kinda like a virtual colonoscopy, but more expensive.

JohnF's picture

Of course not. That income is deferred until either the statute of limitations runs out or Obama has been indicted. I can't remember which comes first...

It's the Chicago way.

mayhem_korner's picture

Have you had any income?

SilverTree's picture

Yep, ~$135k/yr

"From my cold dead hands"

Almost Solvent's picture

Assume that it is not "W-2" or "1099" with your real ss # on it, but rather "self-employment" generated income that is not reported under your ss #.

The IRS is alot of things, but not following up on unfiled returns when they get the information reported to them isn't one of them.

The longest I've seen any of my clients make it is about 6 years before the IRS "files" a return on your behalf (only if income was reported on your behalf).

Just another reason to not take income from W-2 or 1099 entity.

SilverTree's picture

Your assumption is wrong.

"Clients" you mean surfs?

tempo's picture

"Fairness" each according to their ability, to each according to their need. Carl Marx and Obama.

End the FED, restore Liberty and sound money.

Man up Bitchez.

I will be the asshole on the thread that will admit to paying my taxes. It fucking sucks but like my parents would tell me as a kid, 'you live under my roof.'

Being an ex-pat is the only way out. Fuck being a citizen, I'm saving money to leave. I don't want the fucking Feds bothering me. I will give them what they want while I am here...

I lived abroad for a few years when I was in the USMC.  I was an Embassy Guard at the time (formerly an Infantryman).  I was stationed in New Delhi, and then Budapest.

No matter where you are, if you keep an open mind, you'll be able to find things you like depite the things you dont like.  I still miss these places sometimes---though admittedly----I vastly preferred the Indian countryside to the mega cities (they are open air cesspools IMHO).

If i had to relocate now, I'd look at northern Thailand probably, or perhaps something waaaaay more remote in Central Asia.  But, I'm stuck here for now.  Ive got kids, a stupid house that isn't on farmland, etc.  I do have a very marketable skillset though with my current occupation.  If I had no kids, I'd already be gone most likely.

Jethro's picture

I used to not really care about paying taxes.  I bought into the whole "illusion" of choice.  We (the public) simply aren't represented by our elected officials.  They serve only he status quo, and follow precedence and law (which they write).  There are precious few leaders in the ranks of the elected officials.   This situation we have now appears very little different from what our forefathers faced with King George, except more insidious and with no opposition.

There is no ownership in a vote any longer.  We are far removed from active participation, and the cultural ennui surrounding the entire political process is disheartening.  Why should the average voter pay attention any longer?  The general conscensus is that all politicians are corrupt.  The politicians will always vote to keep the status quo (at the vey least), or vote to give the government yet more power.  How many articles of the Bill of Rights have essentially been nullified within the last 5 years?  3, 4 or more?  Those were inviolable.  Now, they are the pervue of the government, not natural rights.  It appears that controlling populations through fear is effective.

Until we can get back to the point of a vote actually having inherent value, we will only have increasingly worse leadership.  Until we can once again have taxation with representation, our lot will only grow worse.  We, right now, have a petty tyrant in office....and he was supposed to be a Constitutional scholar.  WTF????

It's ironic that on one hand we have lazy ZH day traders who sit around all day like greasy hobos in their pyjamas chasing headlines and crying on blogs about 'manipulation' every time they lose money. And on the other hand our president is working 24/7 trying to run this country in one of the most stressful and demanding jobs on the planet. These morally reprehensible 'traders' only pay capital gains tax, and then they have the gall to critisize our president. I am absolutely disgusted at the lack of courtesy that these filthy miscreants show for people in authority.

But this one gave me a genuine belly laugh!

Filthy miscreants is a nice touch.

Doubleguns's picture

MDB, It would seem your 24/7 is a bit off. Unless his golf outings count as working soooo hard for the working class. I guess he may have created a caddy job or two there.

Pure Evil's picture

It's a shame MDB wasn't alive in Nazi Germany, he'd look smart goosestepping through the Brandenburg gate.

Oh well, I guess being an Obama bootlicker has its advantages.

Sine your BFF 0bozo, Bernank, and Tiny Timmy can print Fiat @ will, why the fuck do they even need our tax money?

Control, bitches!

MillionDollarBonus_'s picture

*Sigh* ... Here we go again.

It's not a conspiracy to 'control' us. The government needs tax revenue to make interest payments on the national debt, and thanks to the effective policy of our Federal Reserve these payments are very low indeed. I bet you never thank Dr Bernanke for keeping the ten year at 2%, but this is actually the reason why your taxes are so insanely low. Most Americans are happy to pay their taxes, and they are also keen that other people pay their fair share to make this country (and the world) a better place.

Bold Eagle's picture

You should tell your buddy Ben to lower ten year yield to 0. Why spend taxpayers money on the freaking interest? Let just borrow at 0% interest, like Japan. Then let's cut tax rates to 0 and give people more money to spend on iStuff. Economic boom will surely follow.

MillionDollarBonus_'s picture

Professor Ben Bernanke cannot just "lower rates to 0%". You are clearly not familiar with the intricacies of monetary policy and the delicate framework our monetary authorities have to navigate. Maybe this ignorance explains the ZH readerships' complete disregard for the incredible work our Federal Reseve does on our behalf. Influencing interest rates is just one of many tools our central bankers employ to pursue their dual mandate for maximum employment and price stability.

Pure Evil's picture

Bullshite MDB, if your butt buddy Obama commands it, then it will be so.

All hail the Three Stooges rocket from benificent NK.

The irrepressible MillionDollarBonus_ graced us with these words of wisdom:

Most Americans are happy to pay their taxes, and they are also keen that other people pay their fair share to make this country (and the world) a better place.

Yeah...and freedom, and democracy, and the flag, and the troops, and a better tomorrow, and America.

And the children. We must always remember the children.

Not at the bus stop. It was Mopery-exposing yourself to a blind person.
