Euro Goes Apeshit As Robots React To Individual Headlines From FinMin Statement

Tyler Durden's picture

The EURUSD just went apeshit surging by 50 pips as the robots merely read the favorable tone in the headlines as released by Bloomberg, while completely missing the point that absolutely nothing is done yet. Here there are, via BBG:

  • JUNKER SAYS SUBSTANTIAL FURTHER PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE - EURUSD spikes 20 pips
  • JUNCKER SAYS CONFIDENT EUROGROUP TO MAKE DECISIONS ON MONDAY -EURUSD unchanged
  • JUNCKER SAYS TROIKA HAS PRESENTED DEBT SUSTAINABILITY REPORT - EURUSD spikes another 20 pips
  • JUNCKER SAYS GREECE, TROIKA HAVE IDENTIFIED EXTRA BUDGET MOVES -EURUSD unchanged
  • JUNCKER SAYS HE'S CONFIDENT OF FEB. 20 DECISIONS ON GREECE - it was supposed to be Feb 15 remember...
  • JUNCKER SAYS GREECE SETS EU325 MLN IN EXTRA BUDGET MEASURES -EURUSD unchanged
  • JUNCKER SAYS STRONG ASSURANCES FROM LEADERS OF 2 GREEK PARTIES - EURUSD says: "OOOPS"

And the one the robots have so far missed:

  • JUNCKER SAYS FURTHER CONSIDERATIONS NEEDED ON SPECIFICS

Translating the last one: NOTHING HAS CHANGED! And just to confirm this:

  • Euro fin mins see need for stronger surveillance of Greece.

--> Fiscal Feudalism 101 is baaaaaaack. And the ball is back in Greece's court.

And the whole farce visually:

And the unwind as Atari 2600 processes what it just reacted to:

Acshually, all Troika assumptions on Greek's 2013 GDP seems to be set to high according to latest bank analysis. Instead of decreasing 4,7% as the Troika asumes, it's more likely the Greeks GDP will sink by 7% in 2013.

Which means  - ceteris paribis - that the Greeks public debt will stand at 130% of their GDP in 2020.

So this would require either a redo of the 'haircut' conditions or - at least the IMF have to do - declare Greek etat as non-sustainable.

So it's more likely that it's all a farce.

That last one says it all.  They haven't changed anything, they have only obfuscated the MSM to come back in private and say how about this deal.  And then the Troika says not good enough.

Heh, sounds right. All these robots are trading on isn't anything fundamental, just the *perception* of improvement. They buy because they think others may buy. The only thing that would be stupid is if humans actually bought into it (unless they're also trying to front run the robots?). It's all about not being the last guy holding the bomb.

Plus fundamentally the Euro IS less broke then the dollar.

-Eurozone is a net creditor with no trade deficit.

-Eurozone has more gold then the US

-Euro is worth more then the dollar

-The most broke state in  the dollar bloc is California(biggest). In the Eurozone, the smallest state is the most broke..

And maybe you should explain why it is "fucking LOL!". Is it because US is so big industrial power, or $ is reserve currency, or US military power is so potent, or US produces so much corn, or brain power of your gov, or Americans have the best banks, or they have the best infrastructure, or you are the main brain behind your assesment?

Because it's a stupid statement.

If I have 100 pieces of chicken, and divide them by 2, I now have 200 pieces of chicken. That does not mean they are worth more or less than a different allotment of 150 pieces of chicken.

Notional value alone means jack shit.

Eally Ucked's picture

OK you devided you chicken into 200 pieces and they should be worth half of the price, I follow you. But now explain your deep thoughts about "That does not mean they are worth more or less than a different allotment of 150 pieces of chicken." Is that 150 pieces of chicken allegoric name for USD? It hasn't been devided at all? What about that 150bln deficit every month? And high speed printing fullfilling all needs of your gov?

Notional value alone means jack shit." that's right and ...?

Wed, 02/15/2012 - 16:21 | 2163233 EscapeKey
EscapeKey's picture

The point to the chicken story is that what matters is the overall size of both allotments. Saying "1,000 euros buys more gold than $1,000" completely fails to take into account that you might actually have 5x as many Dollars as Euros. Or the other way. Either way, it's incomplete information.

Pernally, I think bacon is better than chicken. I can go tot he store and buy a package of chicken and it has what, maybe 4-8 pieces of chicken, but a package of bacon has like 20 pieces of bacon.

'Considerations'?  'Specifics'?

I was certain I read 'progress, confident, sustainability, extra, confident, extra, and assurances' in those feeds.

Please define 'apeshit', it is not in my database."

Two most sane Brits I have seen since Churchill.

We will be green again today.  Even if we are not, I'm getting tired of this whole "Waiting for Greece" bullshit.  We've been dragging this out for what?  Two years?  Why can't we move on?  How is it that we can stay in this wierd Schroedinger's cat state in perpetuity when the information is publicly available?
