Europe Finally Comes Out: Obama's Reelection "Uber Alles" Determines Europe's Future

Tyler Durden's picture

For those to whom this comes as a surprise, following the periodic jaunts of Tim Geithner to Europe explaining just what is truly important in life, not to mention Obama's daily phone calls to Mario Monti, we feel truly sorry:

  • EU-IMF REVIEW OF GREEK DEBT SITUATION SET TO BE DELAYED UNTIL AFTER U.S. ELECTION - EUROPEAN OFFICIALS

And the punchlines:

  • "Obama doesn't want anything on a macroeconomic scale that is going to rock the global economy before Nov. 6," a senior EU official told
  • "As far as European leaders are concerned, they don't want Romney, so they're probably willing to do anything to help Obama's chances," said the source, an EU official involved in finding solutions to the debt crisis.

One kinda wonders: just what has Obama promised a broke Europe in return? Don't answer: it's rhetorical. It's also "fair."

At least it is finally clear that the entire world's agenda is to get Obama reelected, broke Athens municipalities no longer collecting garbage, and running out of cash to pay the local Five-Oh notwithstanding.

Get ready for reality to come crashing down once the second coming is completed on November 6, and surreality is no longer needed.

Full article confirming that the entire developed world is now not only broke, but socialist as well:

An EU-IMF report into whether Greece's debt is manageable looks set to be delayed until after Nov. 6 because policymakers want to avoid any shock to the global economy before the U.S. election, EU officials and diplomats say.

The report by the 'troika' of Greece's foreign lenders -- the European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund -- was expected during October, possibly before a meeting of eurozone finance ministers on Oct. 8.

The study provides the basis for decisions on whether to disburse the next tranche of aid to Athens, which may otherwise run out of money to pay wages and pensions, default on its debt and perhaps be forced to leave the euro area.

Differences inside the troika about the precise extent of Greece's debt problems, combined with political pressure to hold off for another few weeks, look likely to mean a delay until mid-November. In the meantime, Greece will be kept afloat by issuing short-term treasury bills and its banks will get access to emergency funds from the Greek central bank.

"The Obama administration doesn't want anything on a macroeconomic scale that is going to rock the global economy before Nov. 6," a senior EU official told Reuters, adding that previous troika reports had also slipped.

Several sources in Germany said top officials in Washington had made clear in numerous conversations with their German and European counterparts that they would prefer no surprises before the tightly contested election.

"It's likely the troika report will be pushed back beyond the U.S. election date," said a Berlin official who spoke on condition of anonymity. Asked if that was a special request from Washington, he replied: "They don't want any surprises."

The European Commission's spokesman on finance said on Friday the troika would take a week-long break from its work in Athens, the second time it has interrupted its mission since it began in late July, adding to expectations of a delay.

"The inspectors are expected to return to Athens in about a week," spokesman Simon O'Connor told reporters.

"As for a conclusion of the mission, I don't have any dates to share with you," he said, adding that it should be some time during October. "We can't say exactly when."

If Greece is off-target by a wide margin, as many economists predict, financial markets will react negatively, concerned that another round of debt restructuring will be required to get government finances back on a stable footing.

A negative troika report could also revive pressure to force Greece out of the single currency area with potentially devastating knock-on consequences for other European countries and the global economy.

European leaders have the same interests as the U.S. president in not destabilising markets -- their own economies have also been badly affected by the fallout from Greece, where the sovereign debt crisis began in January 2010.

But one source said EU leaders' motives went beyond macroeconomic stability. They also had political reasons to avoid rocking the boat before the U.S. election.

"As far as European leaders are concerned, they don't want Romney, so they're probably willing to do anything to help Obama's chances," said the source, an EU official involved in finding solutions to the debt crisis.

The problem for Obama is that if Europe's leaders are seen, implicitly or otherwise, to be working to bolster his reelection chances, it could provide ammunition for the Romney campaign.

European leaders have repeatedly been accused of acting too slowly and in a confused way to resolve the crisis, with a knock-on negative impact on the United States. If they are now seen to be allying with Obama, it could dent his popularity.

So dear Greeks, Spaniards, Portuguese, and all other soon to be broke nations, who are stuck not knowing if you will ever get a pension payment, if the money in your bank is safe, or if there is nobody to collect your garbage, thank the US president.

Also: buy every December VIX call option you can find cause the feces sure are gonna hit the fan once the BS is finally over and truth can no longer be delayed.

It's interesting that the EU didn't hesitate to point their finger at the U.S.  Obama/Geitner must of put the hammer down.

One last thing.  If you don't think Obama would want positive "macro economic" events happening before the election, you're a fool.  Yep Tyler, there's a storm coming after the election.

Almost seems like a planned outcome. Obama always can use the NDAA to keep everyone in line. Print and devalue is the theme. If people can't afford to eat elsewhere, oh well,  it's all for the greater cause.

The new war is currency devaluation. Who can devalue the most.

Any republic whose majority is ignorant enough to elect Obama deserves to be destroyed which of course will happen after they re-elect him so he can finish the job he started. Then perhaps the pheonix can rise from the ashes.

This article has caused me to make a decision about this election.

I am going to vote for Obama.

Lets crash this motherfucker already!  The sooner the better because the sooner it crashes the sooner we can rebuild it and shed the dead weight.  Im in my 40s right now and might just live long enough to see my grand kids have a decent country if we elect obama again and cause the world to tail spin into depression now rather than elect Romney and glide into depression.

Think of the children!  Look guys, we're kind of fucked, but we can make the world a better place for our grand kids by electing obama, crashing the economy and then rebuild it without as many parasites.

If you disagree with this idea its probably because youre still high on hopium and still think there is any possible way to prevent the absolutely inevitable collapse of our society.  There aint.

Im voting for obama and buying lots and lots of PMs.

I agree Obummer will crash this thing quicker, but I'm not voting for him. I'm not voting for Mittens either. I am going to write in Ron Paul's name and send a message to those fuckers that I don't accept the status quo. I have no doubt Obummer will win, but I sure as hell won't pull the lever for him.

I wouldn't pull the lever for him either. Mittens is not going to be president. The nation will pretend that Obama does NOT have a track record to examine and then will support him. Some people say writing in a candidate is throwing away your vote. My perspective is voting for either Obama or Mittens is throwing away your vote. Its too valuable for me to waste it on either one of them.

But this time its different.  Im tired of the slow agonizing way this scenario is playing out.  Im tired of waiting for the other shoe to drop.  Im tired of the uncertainty.

LETS JUST GET ON WITH IT ALREADY!

Vote for Obama and bring this fucked up, retarded, bloated, parasitic system down.

If we had a real press in this country, the question everyday to that lying sack of donkey shit called the "White House Press Secretary" would be, what did Obama promise these people? Of course he'll either lie and say "nothing" and/or "we won't divulge details of an ongoing negotiation" as if the president isn't working on the taxpayer dime.

But such is the world where reporters don't try to differentiate themselves and are content with access to important people.

The answer is simple.

1. Declare debts owed to banks which lend based on a fiat/fractional reserve basis as odious and null and void.

2. Nationalize ownership of the federal reserve banks - fire everyone who ever worked for a bank that took a bailout.

3. Assess guilt and culpability.

4. Dispense punishment.

Interesting take in this thread regarding VIX (as well as having read the ZH DISCLAIMER).

The long-term theory goes is to get out of this casino right? We KNOW volume is all-time historical lows, HFT's rule, and we have witnessed outright theft of customer/client accounts.

I understand the premise of the argument regarding VIX, but wouldn't it set up a perfect opportunity for TPTB to once again take the other side of the bet?

I actually closed my brokerage accounts because it takes a TON of work to make just a little bit of money (but better than banking rates). I have a day job, and the 1% returns, sometime a little more isn't worth it for me. However, I do believe Obama WILL be elected, even though I think both him and Romney suck (not to mention 500-plus bought and sold jackasses in CONgress).

My question is: Wouldn't Obama's election calm the VIX and keep it stable? We know everyone's broke, and is it the premise of Fed intervention going to Europe THE factor for increasing the VIX position?

Any competent response and analysis is appreciated in advance.

You're probably right that we're more likely to be in for some post-election calm.  The suggestion that the S will HTF by December expiration seems premature.

As for the "casino"... There's a big difference between the OTC derivatives everyone loves to hate, and exchange-traded options such as the VIX calls mentioned in the article.  For options traded on the major US exchanges (CBOE, ISE, PHLX, et al), the Options Clearing Corp. acts as a central counterparty, clearing and settling your trades, and guaranteeing that exchange participants fulfill the obligations of their option contracts.

That's not to say that a sufficiently large SHTF event couldn't blow things up completely; but TTBOMK no OCC-settled  contract has ever defaulted because of counterparty risk, not even in the darkest days of 2008, or the flash crash of 2010.

Careful with VIX calls, though.  It's not necessarily that TPTB are out to get you; but because of the nature of the instrument, these things are not as good a volatility hedge as they may appear at first.

Keep in mind a couple of things:  First, volatility is mean-reverting.  Second, VIX options are European-style, meaning that the seller can't have his short calls exercised before expiration.  Therefore, when the SHTF, rather than buying back his shorts he has every reason to hang on and wait.  So your long VIX calls may not appreciate quite as much as you'd hoped.

If I were Iran, I'd just let them see whatever they want to see, and suggest Israel open its own sites. It's about the petrodollar and removing support for Syria/Hezbollah so Israel can occupy Lebanon and ethnically cleanse Palestine more swiftly and easily - but most people seem to think it's legit for us to be pulled into a war by a tiny parasite client state who is threatening to bomb a country for failing to stop doing what it is already not doing, but which the client state has done itself for years.

Makes one wonder how many other 'last resort' devices are present in embassy buildings, doesn't it? I'd consider it a fairly safe bet that the US has either a small nuke or a big thermobaric weapon in one or two of it's more critically located embassies. And I wouldn't be at all surprised to discover that India and Pakistan have the matter covered in both directions.

There's been a distinct change in tone from Iran over the past couple of days.  They really have had enough of the whole situation.  I'd say they're getting close to calling Israel's bluff.  The US should shut the hell up at this point and tell the idiot in the Knesset do the same.

IAEA infiltrated with terrorists – Iran

Published: 18 September, 2012, 01:04
Edited: 18 September, 2012, 14:12

Fereydoon Abbasi Davani

The Iranian nuclear chief has said that the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is infiltrated with terrorists and saboteurs who are trying to derail his country’s nuclear program.

Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani, who was speaking at the annual member state gathering of the IAEA in Vienna on Monday, also said that power lines from the city of Qom to the Fordow underground uranium enrichment plant were cut on August 17 – the day before IAEA inspectors were due to visit the site.

“Terrorists and saboteurs might have intruded the agency and might be making decisions covertly,” he told the 55-nation conference.

“Does this visit have any connection to that detonation? Who other than the IAEA inspectors can have access to the complex in such a short time?” he wondered.

The diplomatic gloves are coming off, this is a particularly blunt warning.

--

IAEA should provide Iran with Israel atomic program data

Iran’s nuclear chief Fereydoun Abbasi says the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should provide Tehran with information about the location and number of Israel’s nuclear facilities in spirit of fairness.

“I suggested that the agency’s secretary general provides Iran with the geographical coordinates and number of the enrichment facilities of Israel, which is Iran’s enemy, so that both parties have equal chance for attack,” Abbasi said on Tuesday.

http://theiranproject.com/blog/2012/09/18/iaea-should-provide-iran-with-...

--

Iran has not said something like that before.  Basically it's delivering Israel, USA, Europe (and IAEA) a direct warning that if you attack our nuclear processing sites, weapons storage sites, or missile bases (i.e. again), we will be proportionally attacking yours in reply.

So we have entered a new phase of actual quid-pro-quo escallation and counter-strikes.

The more the US-NATO and Israel incite Teheran now, the less and less effective it is likely to be at deterring Iran, or causing them to 'comply'. The coercive economic and diplomatic strategy of the US Treasury and State Dept has basically collapsed in failure now.  Iran will not do anything the US wants from here on, but it is prepared to do things the US does not want.

Iranian negotiator claims Iran fooled MI6

Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili said Thursday that his country put out misinformation to counter British spying.

In an interview with the Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat, Jalili said that Iran falsified information to mislead foreign intelligence agencies such as MI6 “in order to protect our nuclear sites” and economic interests.

http://theiranproject.com/blog/2012/09/20/iranian-negotiator-claims-iran...

--

What this indicates is that (of course) Iran had an elaborate counter-intelligence strategy fully worked-out, and implemented during the prior 14 years of possession of the Enrichment tech from Pakistan (supplied in 1989), and long before the IAEA saw the assigned nominated 'civil' nuclear facility operations.  So an elaborate subterfuge was built-in, from the very beginning in forethought of these things, to limit the comprehension of Western Intelligence, and to cause them to conclude mostly what Iran wanted them to conclude.

That is all standard practice fare for a nuclear proliferate operating under the NPT, which by the way has been a brilliant cover for proliferation activities.  The only thing better for enabling cover for proliferation has been an IAEA civil safeguards and monitoring regime.  These have been extensively manipulated by multiple nuclear proliferators in the past  (Australia is the grand wizard of this approach to the NPT and IAEA), so don't think Iran's doing something unusual or novel here.

Tehran provided false information about nuclear program – Iran’s nuclear chief

Published: 21 September, 2012, 08:07

“We presented false information sometimes in order to protect our nuclear position and our achievements, as there is no other choice but to mislead foreign intelligence,” he told the paper.

“Sometimes we pretended to be weaker than we really were, and sometimes we showed strength that was not really in our hands,” Abbasi admitted.

What is being said there is plain, Iran has major nuclear capacities and operations that the US and Israel and IAEA still don't know about, and Iran will not be telling them about it, because it's not a civil program.  I have said it before, one of the best covers for a military program is a parallel large scale civil program (that can even be downgraded or abandoned to suit diplomatic needs and to buy time)

But Iran has now decided to come out of the closet about this, as a deterrence factor.  And it's a pretty compelling one.  Having read about how other countries have systematically fooled and mislead US intelligence and the IAEA in the past, I have no doubt Iran is saying something rather meaningful and quite real here.

Basically they're saying, we have the bomb, and we have and arsenal, and have had it for some time.  This has allowed Iran to offer up part of its program to monitoring an allowed the dedicated weapon-core production program to continue in the background.

Iran would not dare to reveal such things if this were not so.  All that is missing now is an underground nuclear test, and I have no doubt they have prepared for the possible need to conduct one.  And in fact they will be looking for a pretext to withdraw from the NPT and to hold one.

So any armed incitement now, that leads to direct military or even economic attack/confrontation, can now lead directly to NPT withdrawal, IAEA exclusion and a nuclear test within months.

Iran is now simply fishing for an opportunity to do it and change the geopolitics of the entire region.

And Washington's leadership is now so low-grade and disconnected from reality that it'll blunder on in failed policy, until Iran does this.  Because once Iran announces it's leaving the NPT, that's it, that is the direct admission they already have a viable deliverable nuclear arsenal.  The three months notice to withdraw is just a technicality then, as any suspected or detected breach becomes a moot point.

And given Israel's famous propensity for pre-emptive attack, you can bet the Iranians are ready, mobile, dispersed and ready to go within minutes.

Game, Set and Match to Iran ... very nicely played, real pros.

Just what has Obama promised a broke Europe in return?

It’s obvious: after his first term it is to let the Federal Reserve Bank of New York do whatever it wants, completely, without interference.

The NY Fed operatives pick U.S. officials in all of the financial sections of the U.S. government, all the Wall Street regulators, and all the financial winners and losers; and whatever Romney’s intentions, he may not be that dependable.

What else in this entire world hinges on this presidential election? Well, it’s the Muslim protests, the Fed manipulation of stock indexes, Europe’s bow to Fed dominance, and, now, the hopes and dreams of the mad warmaker, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Within hours of his selection as Romney’s running mate, Paul Ryan was on a plane headed for Las Vegas to tap the unlimited dollar reservoir of Sheldon Adelson, the frantic billionaire who wants American foreign policy to be subservient to Israeli foreign policy: more settlements, more Israeli expansion, Jerusalem as the Israel’s capital, and of course, military action against Iran.

This presidential election is more about Israel than the American people.  The Zionists “October surprises” have been happening weeks ahead of time -- instigation of riots throughout the Muslim countries, publication of timed release of videos such as Innocence of Muslims and now a French magazine’s depiction of a naked Mohammed, the depiction of Obama (the most pro-Israel president in history) as an enemy of Israel by the U.S. Zionists neo-cons, and, of course, the incredible staged action of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu intent on world War III ignited by a U.S. Empire already engaged in the 9/11 fostered War on Terror.

This comment by Lieutenant General Shaul Mofaz, an opposition leader and former Defense Minister addressing Netanyahu directly in the Knesset, sums up the situation:

“Over the past few months, Israel has waged an extensive and relentless p.r. campaign with the sole objective of preparing the ground for a premature military adventure.

“This p.r. campaign has deeply penetrated the ‘zone of immunity’ of our national security, threatens to weaken our deterrence, and our relations with our best friends. Mr. Prime Minister, you want a crude, rude, unprecedented, reckless, and risky intervention in the U.S. elections. Tell us whom you serve and for what?” – Letter from Tel Aviv, The New Yorker, Sept. 3, 2012 edition, p 23.

Having lived in foreign lands under both military dictators and socialist pigs, I can say honestly that I don't think most Americans have the slightest idea how bad things can really get. I've seen unrest that few Americans have ever known. I've been held hostage and been the target of angry mobs. I've been contacted by CIA agents and had soldiers thrust the barrel of a rifle against my chest and inch from my heart.
We Americans have taken our freedom and our prosperity for granted so long that we have become largely complacent to the risks. We are rapidly approaching a police state. I'm now seeing things that I have seen before in other places that I never dreamed in my worst nightmares would ever manifest themselves in the United States of America!
Barack Obama and his progressive philosophy is THE greatest threat to individual liberty of our lifetimes. If he becomes a lame duck, there won't be enough left of America in four years to even call "America" any more. Our enemies will consider us weak, our economy will collapse under a weight of debt that will destroy us, and our people will wonder in a stupor what happened. We have become our own worst enemies!

These words are not the observation of the Red Terror, of the house to house searches and the firebombings of the 40s; these are the warnings of this moment, the dangers of today. Less than a generation separates us from the violations and injustice of the world war, yet war has never stopped and, now, the United States trembles on the brink of a police state.

Who can say that the boot of tyranny will not come here and soon? The first step we need to take is, with all our breathe, to deny Obama and the people he fronts for, another term. If Romney follows in his footsteps or worse, then that’s our next order, to stop him!

Aren’t our marching orders clear? How much more information do we need?

Why does everyone think that everything will fall apart on Nov.7th?  Let's be logical here: If Romney were to win, all hell would break loose, right?  So then, it stands to reason that if (when) Obama wins, markets will soar to new heights.

I fear that Obama's victory will bring euphoria to the markets, not because it will make sense, but simply because it will bring more "hopium" to the markets.

Europe wants Obama to get re-elected, so what makes anyone think that his win won't spike the markets? Getting their wish will allow European "leaders" to keep playing the same game for yet four more years.

This kind of guy: “We are 5 days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America!”

--President Barak Obama, on October 30, 2008, as a presidential candidate speaking to a crowd of 35,000-40,000 at University of Missouri

“What that means, then, is, is that as we try to resuscitate this notion that we're all in this thing together, leave nobody behind, we do have to be innovative in thinking, what are the delivery systems that are actually effective and meet people where they live? And my suggestion, I guess, would be that the trick -- and this is one of the few areas where I think there are technical issues that have to be dealt with, as opposed to just political issues -- I think the trick is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and hence facilitate some redistribution, because I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level to make sure that everybody's got a shot.”

Samuel L. Jackson made a surprising confession in the March issue of Ebony.

"I voted for Barack because he was black. Cause that’s why other folks vote for other people — because they look like them," Jackson said, according to the New York Post.

He contended that Obama's message wasn't important, since he believes most politicians will say anything to get elected.

I recall the Europeans going ape over Obama's victory in 2008, they were crying, cheering, the women were drooling, the heads of state were giddy.

Finally their dreams realized: The End of Whitey

A tad premature but still...

Repubs now need such an exceptionally high share of the White vote to win (because Whites are a diminishing share of the electorate), that Jorge W. Bush, Peace Be Upon Him, may have been the last faux White President.

The Supreme Court is one appointment away from being Bolshevik, outright.

Throw the Bill of Rights in the garbage and get ready for the White Middle Class, is there much future for that term, to be the payers of ECONOMIC DEMOCRACY.

Romney cannot win this election because a sizeable percentage of the White vote is going to Obama, White Wimmins love that Brutha.
The old America has voted itself out of existence. It isn't coming back--ever. We have passed the point where that can be considered a credible possibility.
