Farage: "The Euro Titanic Has Now Hit The Iceberg"

Tyler Durden's picture

In an epic rant, trumping Biderman, UKIP's Nigel Farage appears to have reached the limit of his frustration with his 'peers' in the European Parliament after the Spanish bailout. Rajoy's proclamation that this bailout shows what a success the euro-zone has been, sends Farage over the edge as he sees the Spaniard as just about the most incompetent leader in the whole of Europe (up there with favorites like Van Rompuy and Barroso). The erudite Englishman notes that by any objective criteria "The Euro Has Failed" expanding on the insane farce of Italy funding Spain's banking bailout at a loss (borrowing at 6% to fund a loan at 3% as we discussed here). "This 'genius' deal makes things worse not better" as it merely drives other nations towards needing bailouts themselves and while his socialist colleagues in the room are mumbling and checking their blackberries, he reminds them that Spanish national debt will surge and that 100 billion does not solve the problem, and that if Greece leaves, the ECB is failed, is gone, and to rectify this there will be a cash call from the very same PIIS (Ex-G) that are tumbling towards the abyss. Blood pressure surges as he screams "you couldn't make this up" concluding that "the Euro Titanic has now hit the Iceberg and sadly there simply aren't enough lifeboats."

I suspect he is actually looking at a clock, which has been positioned near the camera.  Each speaker has a very strict and limited time, so they carefully script their speeches to fit the time and then ensure they are keeping to time in the delivery.  You will notice each time he looks up it is a very quick glimpse, all that is needed to check whether he is on track.  If he was mugging for the camera, he would look at it for a longer period.

The time limit for speakers has been the making of Nigel. Like Winston Churhill in a way, who would only contemplate 1 side of 1 sheet of paper of speechifying - brevity is best.

I often think of NF as the Alexandrian solution to the Gordian Knot of EU unfathomability - he strikes through with verbal swordstrokes & takes his 2m 30s to decapitate the Beast.

Someone as brilliant, insightful, and erudite as Farage is should suggest some solutions too, rather than just ranting on and on pointing fingers here and there.  It's easy to understand why the others would discount his testimony, since he's representing the UK, which has rejected the Euro.  They would logically see him as an outsider and consider it not to be his problem, and hence, what he has to say matters less to them than Euro country members.

But he speaks the truth effectively and courageously, and they are doing their countries a grave disservice by ignoring him.  Too bad his message doesn't seem to be penetrating their empty power-hungry pinheads.

Actually, we're 25min past the collision with the iceberg:

14th April 1912 11:40 p.m. Lookout Frederick Fleet spotted an iceberg dead ahead. The iceberg struck the Titanic on the starboard (right) side of her bow.

14th April 1912 11:50 p.m. Water had poured in and risen 14 feet in the front part of the ship

15th April 1912 12:00 a.m. The captain was told the ship can only stay afloat for a couple of hours. He gave the order to call for help over the radio.

15th April 1912 12:05 a.m. The orders was given to uncover the lifeboats and to get passengers and crew ready on deck. There was only room in the lifeboats for half of the estimated 2,227 on board.

15th April 1912 12:25 a.m. The lifeboats began being loaded with women and children first. The Carpathia, southeast of the Titanic by about 58 miles, picked up the distress call and began sailing to rescue passengers.

The bold part is where we are now, the lifeboats are being uncovered and people are getting ready to board. It will be 45min in when it's really going to hit the fan.

I didn't see him return those fat checks he receives every month from the very same "fascist and corrupt" EU that he is so willing to critize and attack.

How surprising.

the people in the streets know this....why the written hystrionics ?  it's a done deal, just waiting for the splat when the

If I had all the money in the world (because I could make it up out of thin air) the first thing I would do is buy all the politicians in all important political parties.  And all the unimportant ones, too.  What the hell, it's only fiat.

But I would never make the mistake of having them all toe the line.  In fact some of the best people that I would employ, the most talented speakers, would be the Token Resistance.

I would know perfectly well that people like you ZHers exist, and that I can't put you to sleep in the same manner as I do the others.

So I would give you Ron Pauls and Nigel Farages.  Absolutely.  And I would have them tell the absolute truth.  Better yet if they themselves actually believe in what they are doing!

The lie is in the subtext.  They are speaking it in the Congress,  and in the Parliament.  So the subtext says:  The Congress and the Parliament is where we have to fix this.

So while I have all the sheeple in the Everything Is Just Fine trap, I would try to get 80 to 90% of you guys in the Maybe We Can Still Fix This trap.  And that would be good enough.

Just because I'm evil, doesn't mean I'm stupid.     :-)

yes you see, this is where you are heading towards the idea of outright revolution. violent revolution.

in. the u.s. as in russia, the system cannot be violently overtaken AND remain whole. the little spark of populist violence you seek is the spark of kindling of a fire that will lite the house of institutionalized 'society'.

all centralized decision structures and highly resource intensive production (private or public) will simply shut down creating more scarcity in some ways , and more 'freedom' or 'chaos' as you might have it. In the end, the 'resistance' will never capture washington and new york .

judge dredd comics describe this post-modern reality of a broken american where the city states on the coasts become their own walled off enclaves and the mid west simply becomes uncontrolled fly over country.

In many ways, we are getting closer to this reality.

Stop taking their money.

Use silver and gold.  ( And barter where feasible. )

Locally, where they can't see you, or over the internet with hard encryption and honest banks.

The banks that become clearing houses for hard-money transactions will be the only banks that survive the Collapse.

note 1:  honest clearing houses would make micro-metallic transaction feasible.  i.e. 0.1 g Au

note 2: internet clearing houses could make wide-area barter feasible, using work or goods that can be easily transmitted or shipped.

Since apparently I am the only one who downvoted you I will say way and not run.

While what you say is possible it is important that somebody says something.  Articles will be written, books, and even twisted historical recollections.  But there are documents that last hundreds if not thousands of years and if I ever would be remembered for doing something, for attempting to be the sole voice of reason and to have it recorded for posterity, it would be in the documentation of a government, and what better one than possibly the greatest government the world has ever been priviledged to experience.

In addition, while many do not act on what is said in the halls of government, they may still hear it.  People may not pay attention but the subconsious of society picks up on ideas, and, as Victor Hugo said “You can resist an invading army; you cannot resist an idea whose time has come.”

You are also discounting the hubris of psychopaths and sociopaths but that is for another topic.

Infinite growth in a very finite world. Guess we didn't learn anything from the Roman empire collapse. But then after a few centuries of the dark ages anything looks like up I s'pose. Now, IMVHO, we're at a place that resembles a puddle of water when after it gets smacked and gets displaced into a thousand tiny puddles of water it can begin to create and grow again. I think the mistake made by most people is twofold:

1) Confustion between a countries BANKS and GOVERNMENT. Thus, bailing out SPAIN is thought to mean the government, rather than the private banking system.

2) The political entities are, in fact, CORPORATIONS. Seeing that room full of bureaucrats reminds me that all of those REPRESENTATIVES are not repesenting people, but CORPORATIONS. Each and every one of those elected are beholden to the political contributions made by CORPORATIONS. Plain and SIMPLE. They are arguing and representing the interests of their CORPORATE EMPLOYERS.

Putting it all together, private banks stock and bond holders, after enjoying nearly 100 years of exploiting the "little people" went all in for a massive cash grab. The effort is now to shift all of the resulting exposure away from the stock and bondholders, of which their are few, to the state/public, of which their are many.

I think we gain nothing by killing (or discredit) the messenger. The reality is that Europe is in the midst of its worst economic crisis of recent times. One solution to this problem will be very complex. Like any patient sick, they want to be cured at the lowest possible cost. They do not want to stop growing, do not want to leave to retire at a young age, not want to lose their government benefits given to the average resident; not want to spend less, not open their economy; not want to pay more interest on their loans; etc, etc, etc. We all know that's not possible, but that's what they want at this time. Probably be first in line, we will allow Spanish banks, benefits that can not be extended to banks in other European countries. I insist that the solution to this problem will bring immense pain and poverty in Europe. And this is going to generate some kind of imbalance in the world. Given this situation, I think we should be very responsible with ourselves and our families. This means that we must take measures to prevent this crisis affect us ... and if we can benefit, we must.

As bad as banks and politicians in the US and UK are, their actions mostly fleece the idiots in their own countries who stand for it. In Europe that Mediterranean nations feel entitled to rip off other countries, which is what Farage is talking about.
