First Chevron, Now Shell's California Refinery Issues "Civil Emergency"
UPDATE: Local Police have said that this is a false alarm and there is no emergency at the Shell Refinery.
In what can only be the strangest and most worrisome coincidence, the Shell refinery in Martinez has just issued an Immediate-Severe-Likely public "Shelter-in-Place" emergency alert:
RESIDENTS IN MARTINEZ. ARE ADVISED TO SHELTER IN PLACE. GO INSIDE. CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND DOORS. TURN OFF ALL HEATERS. AIR CONDITIONERS AND FANS. IF NOT USING THE FIREPLACE. CLOSE FIREPLACE DAMPERS AND VENTS. AND COVER CRACKS AROUND DOORS AND WINDOWS WITH TAPE OR DAMPED TOWELS. MEDIA NEWS NETWORKS WILL CONTINUE TO CARRY UPDATED EMERGENCY INFORMATION. STAY OFF THE TELEPHONE UNLESS YOU HAVE A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY.

WTF
Pull it.
Sincerely yours.
Mr. Silverstein
I love the smell of benzene in the morning.
UPDATE:
Just checked KRON-TV in SF. Apparently a false alarm.
things got roudy in town event.. http://www.kron4.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=4628
"UPDATE:

I believe them.
Just because they're talking about you doesn't mean that they're not out to get you.
It was a false alarm. Keep calm and carry on.
The fire at the WTC is now a false alarm too!!!
World Trade Center 'fire' was false alarm

Tyler, You live down here in Bay Area. i can tell by your familiarity with the area. Richmond and martinez refineries seem to have problems every year.; they are friggin old....but fit in well with surrounding neighborhoods. Actually, the Martinez refinery is somewhat detached from the city. Whatever, those refineries are dinosaurs.
must be a quick trade prank "call in" by the Goldman crude futures deesk again.
a la Enron?

Since the Mossad and CIA planted Stuxnet in Iran, would it be make since that Stuxnet might have something to do with these 2 events? They said they would hit back against those who did it. Stuxnet is designed to show normal, non-emergency settings on monitors. Things can be turning very bad but the screens show no emergencies until something gives.
Or in this case a false alarm......
Fire alarms are all hardware deadman switches. There is no software involved in the actual switches themselves, only the end-user station uses software to control anything, and it controls are the resets. They are done this way to prevent that exact situation you are describing from happening.
Fire alarm systems report off premise to central stations using software...this is one of my areas of experience.
Siemens is a big time player.

thumbsucker memory sticks can do alot of muckety uppity long after stuxnet gave iran its anal probe
More like: I love the smell of HF gas in the morning. Do they run an alkylizer there?
Indeed.
Chevron is lucky it didn't build that.

There is no shelter-in-place in Martinez. There was an accidental activation of the Community Warning System.

There is no shelter-in-place in Martinez. There was an accidental activation of the Community Warning System.
This is starting to sound like its not accidents that we're talking about.
that was my first thought
Plus a fire broke out at WTC 1 this morning
You gat a serious A+ for the Max Headroom avatar (NO, he does not look like Mitt Romney on a good day;)
What's that old saying? Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, thrice is conspiracy.
Indeed.
...so, we can expect a third one coming.
Rule #10... there are no coincidences
It's so weird you should say that. I was just thinking the same thing!
Revenge for Stuxnet ?
My thoughts EXACTLY!
Once the stuxnet "genie" was out of the bottle, rewriting it for use back against us was/is inevitable.
Watch this RIGHT NOW:

We need a Turdnet Virus at the CFTC.
Perhaps The Wicked Witch picked up the Turdnet Virus after our last coital encounter.
You know silver has antibacterial properties. Rub firmly on affected area.
Excellent video...could easily be the case.
Sponsored by wait for it .......... Goldman Sachs.
It is the same thing with drones. We deployed these to kill people driving the tech and speeding up others to match us. How soon before a drone comes into the US from sea or Mexico? How about a ship launched drone skimming 15 feet above the water coming in from a tanker?
Viruses and drones, we can thank our leaders for hastening the adoption of both.
Don't forget to store vital information in a Cloud.
The Woz said the same thing. The cloud is a BAD idea.
In news today, Skynet has now become self-aware.
Now here's Tom with the weather.
Bizarre and unlikely coincidence
I wouldn't be surprised if the gov's "secret plan" is to add more corn to the blend (corn up gasoline down... oops corn up gasoline up maybe less then other wise) ? Or secret orders to pump out 24/7 until november and redlining the refineries.
Those electric cars have to be sold some way.
Damn if that's not an oh shit moment what is?
Somebody forgot to declare war ? !
That is sooooooo WWII. Get with the program. We have UN resolutions to ignore or act upon depending on which way the wind blows from the various POTUS anuses.
Yes we declaired war on Iran with the sanctions. Sanctions are war. The war has already begun and our kids will bear the brunt.
Sanctions are war, and whoever down-voted you is an idiot. Another thing that is war... assassinating scientists... another thing that is war... drone flights that kill "insurgents" especially after we redefine an insurgent to be, well, anyone killed by a drone strike. why are we afraid to call it what it is?
Long Shelter In Place
Except pretty soon it'll be Shelter In Place Someplace Else.
Very soon Beverly Hills properties will be 2 for 1 $.After everyone realises what is comming from Fukushima.

Maybe we could get all those talking head windbags from all over the globe and they could suck it all up ....or blow it all away.
All joking aside..this sucks.
Big Sis shoulda been watching them real terrorists a bit closer and not so focused on patting down granny. Chem and Refinery plants were known primary targets.
Hell Jerry Brown probably invited them if they'd just pay a little taxes
The more they pat granny down the more refineries she blows up - when will they learn: "The more you tighten your grip - the more star systems will slip through your fingers."
DP
I often thought that refineries would be an easy terrorist target. 50 Towel Heads with 50 calibers (what’s their range?) could probably do a lot of industrial damage. Next up: key transformers in the power grid?
how about one wiith the welding supply company truck he just jacked, loaded with o2 and c2h2 weld cylinders? That's less overhead and lots more bang for the buck.
50 cal M82 Barrett has an effective range over a mile.
Key transformers are EHV giants near large power stations, waiting time of 3 years for a new one, and no spares to speak of in the country. They are huge things, and I doubt 50 cal would harm them much, but not sure. They are the things we are woried about in case of large EMP event.
Big Sis is in on the game, so why would she rat out her own crew?
Conditioning. Stay indoors. Do not attempt to move about.
In the past they would evacuate people. Maybe there is no where to go?
No shit. Stay put....we are from the government and we are here to help.
Just like the military training excercises taking place on each corner of Amerika. The traning is not for the military, but for the plebes.
Step 1. Condition population that military activity on US streets normal.
Step 2. Condition population to stay put during any and all situations and wait for further directions from government.
Step 3. Start PR campaign "All Aboard To Auswitch" - We restrict your calories so you don't have too. You will love it. (credit to Gerald Celente."
Step 4. Collect gold teeth, shoes, and disenters.
Step 5. PROFIT!!!!
Why do you suppose that playgrounds at the local indoctination centers ALL have fences with gates around them now. Conditioning for the sheep so that they feel safe and secure.
Well... Passports seem to hold up well against kerosene fire, pulverization, & nano thermite... So benzene ought to be a cinch!
Nothing to see here...certainly not an attack...all is well move along people resume buying stocks.
Q. What do you call a shutdown at the Shell refinery?
A. A dry Martinez.
We're from FEMA & we're here to help...
There are no coincidences. Why is gas and food cost rising? It's certainly not because of QE forever......it's that pesky drought and old refineries.
I've always wondered how a giant steel structure that is not exposed to elements that would cause it's deteriation would wear out or become obsolete. It's also worrying that even that same structure was updated regularly to maitain safety standards. They must have been using steel from the WTC pours.
'Worrisome'? Nonsense....muppets resume your normal daily activity of buying stocks.
Helluva job Brownie
Hide the guns, women and children.
To have an emergency at one refinery may be regarded as a misfortune; to have an emergency at two smacks of carelessness.
(With apologies to Oscar Wilde.)
Dear Aunt Augusta:
LOL! +10.
Mysteerious Rooshian Vooman
jacking up oil due to refinery problems is just another way to "turn risk on". to hell with the people that may suffer.
Maybe the Syrian situation isn't going as well as planned since the Russians showed up...
I thought they already abandoned Syria, right until the Rebels deciced to blow up a general of theirs yesterday.
Central Planning is hard when the central planners want paid vacations in their bennies packages...
SCADA viruses backfiring? ;p
The Iranians did it. Let's bomb them back to Babylon !!!
Refineries are having a baddddddd month. Wisconsin, Chicago, Oklahoma, and now two in the bay area. Major media reports? Stay tuned, looks like it's going to get interesting- especially since Congress is on vacation and the EU is on vacation.
I notice that all hell breaks lose when Congress is not in session. I wonder why that is...
Inadvertent alert. All is okay. Please continue to buy WTI.
What will the leukemia cancer rate be in California in ten years? Oncology may be the next growth industry.
Then they'll have to take out the marijuana plantations & the apricot orchards too...
Iran claims resposibility for these two attacks in response to the Stuxnet virus deployed by the currecnt US administration against Iran...
Check to you...
No way that is coincidence. Sounds like sabotage to me but what do I know.
California has not allowed anyone to build a new refinery in over 30 years - they have made it so cost prohibitive to the point no one will do it. Just the environmental studies to do so would likely take a decade, then end up in endless litigation in court from every environmental group out there (which all use gasoline and drive cars to the courthouse ...)
Even if every refinery shut down and gas went to $12.00 per gallon I doubt the retards that run this state would even care.
They're long bicycles the bastards...

False alarm:

So that makes two 'false alarm' fires on 8/8 just before the hour of 8 (the other one was the 88th floor of WTC1)...
Where's #3 going to come from?
There was a misprint - it was meant to end with
STAY OFF THE TELEPHONE UNTIL YOU HAVE A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY.
If they keep blowing up these True Blood factories what will the vampires feast on?
Oh yeah us
Is that you Dirtdigger?
false alarm as of two minutes ago
This was only a drill. If there is anything to worry about, they'll tell us.
Didn't they have a drill in Oklahoma City, on 9/10 in New York, and 7/7 in London?
as i said re the richmond fyrePyre: L0L!!!
oil is bid and T's are being sold off from their morning wood
this bullshit is better than the smell of rumpoystiltskins in the morning, BiCheZ!
"Fool me once shame on me, er uh fool me twice...uh er uh well uh, you don't get fooled again" an old Tennessee saying as quoted by GWB.
This was a petrie dish event to see how the citizens would react to an emergency alert that sounded as ridiculous as one could be. I wonder what the results were?
If they can make fossil fuels seem dangerous - as dangerous and unpredictable as nuclear - then it will be easier for them when the time comes to nationalize enegry writ large.
There are abundant new energy technologies capable of economic harvest of unconventional hydrocarbons. There's enough oil to support growth for many hundreds of years. 80% of the worlds hydrocarbon resources have been locked up in deep, cold formations that have not - until now - been possible to mobilze.
i can't understand the irrational "war against hydrocarbons" threatening to choke off the new technologies. Don't waste your time sending me a "its not possible due to EROI" - yes, it is. you just have to look in to the science.
The propaganda fits their “world governance” agenda, pricewise, control-wise, and population-wise.
“Complex technology of any sort is an assault on human dignity. It would be little short of disastrous for us to discover a source of clean, cheap, abundant energy, because of what we might do with it.” - Amory Lovins, Rocky Mountain Institute
“The prospect of cheap fusion energy is the worst thing that could happen to the planet.” -- Jeremy Rifkin, Greenhouse Crisis Foundation
"A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal.” --Ted Turner, who donated over a billion dollars to the United Nations specifically to fund the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
Ohhhhhhh, that's hippy talk!!!!!!
Chavez!
False alarm or no, it’s a good reminder of the agenda of the eco-speakers who’ve been working these many years to reduce the West’s standard of living through taxes and massive legislation and a wholesale transfer of wealth to under-developed countries that they’ve politically commandeered. Here’s the view of a Club of Rome member who advocates forced world change via an engineered global monetary crisis that would destroy the developed nations’ economic systems…
“One of the worst problems in the United States is energy prices—they’re too low……
“It is clear that current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class…involving high meat intake, consumption of large amounts of frozen and ‘convenience’ foods, ownership of motor-vehicles, numerous electric household appliances, home and work-place air-conditioning…expansive suburban housing…are not sustainable.” -- Maurice Strong, opening speech at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit
“Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsibility to bring that about?” - Maurice Strong, founder of the UN Environment Programme
By the way, Maurice Strong is one of the wealthiest men in the world with great personal wealth derived from the oil industry in Canada.
I work 3 blocks from the Valero Refinery in Benicia and have a visual across the water of the Martinez refinery. See nothing unusual over there. The Valero refinery has been off-line since 7/26. They started firing it up on Tuesday and the flares coming from the stacks where crazy. They say that is the normal part of the start up routine. It should be back on line soon. Can't wait. The Valero refinery is not very secure, IMO. It is right in the middle of an industrial park and you can actually drive along the big pipes that bring oil from the ships in the bay. You can't get onto the plant property without going through security but the plant is just a stones throw from busy street traffic. I always worry about something happening there. Shelter in place my butt... I'd hop in the car and get the heck out of Dodge! As of yesterday gas has gone up about 11 cents since Sunday and it will probably be at least 10 cents more on my way home tonight. I'm really not a fan of coincidence.
Tyler,
Take this article down.
This was a false alarm.
I can assure you it is not a false alarm. Shell is very litigation wary, generally safer operated than its counterparts and does not alarm the public without cause. I have worked for them for 20 years and when they make a public anouncement regarding safety there is generally a risk. The Martinez facility is very old and suffers from deffered maintenance.
Come back and reaffirm your opinion tomorrow.
The emergency alert system that Shell uses has numerous layers of protocol that prevents false alarms; numerous internal alerts and validations occure before the public is ever notified thru the authority alarm system. What I believe has occured is the gas leak has been resolved.
This is all to program the sheeple of California to stay indoors before the brwon shirts come for their neighbors
All I have to.say is who went long oil before rumor and.sold before retraction.
Everyone including government is running some Enron scam.
If I wanted oil prices to stabilize higher I would blow up a refinery like they do in Fucking Nigeria and claim militants. Or start saber rattling Iran. Now its trash refineries and create disasters in California the biggest oil market in the US.
Chevron had their permit to expand denied by a judge over environmental questions in Richmond. So, blow the fucker up.and create a supply squeeze in oil and watch how they get the permit anyway. Clearly someone went long oil and was worried their position didn't ramp up high after Chevron. A diesel leak? Really?
And now an explosion and fire at KCP&L Missouri Iatan coal power plant
