Follow The House Debate On The Compromise Bill Live Here

Tyler Durden's picture

Yes, the melodrama is back. Follow the latest developments straight out of Congress, which is now expected to be far closer to passing the bill as more republicans have voiced the support of the Compromise bill. This could be your last chance as today could well be the final day of the debt ceiling episode. At least for the current season.

"I know as it's structured now. It's a Big fucking circle jerk ponzi scheme where everyone buys each others' debt with impunity and finally, it collapses, then the fed comes in to pad everyones balance sheet throw the small banks under the bus and stimulate A shitload of mergers consolidating every industry with cheap credit making the rich richer and the poor poorer. Please explain to me how everyone is supposed to get interest paid on there savings when the interest rates are set by correlation arbs basing all of the interest rates off of the treasury curve. The treasury curve effectively rigging the cost of money (well the fed via QE), and let us not even speak of the contraction of the checkbook money that would ensue should interest rates go up....the system is rigged against the people it's about time to pur this monetary system back into the pits of hell from which it came..and start over while we still have the chance..."

Treasury Announces Marketable Borrowing Estimates

To view the Sources and Uses Table, visit link.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of the Treasury today announced its current estimates of net marketable borrowing for the July – September 2011 and the October – December 2011 quarters:

  • During the July – September 2011 quarter, Treasury expects to issue $331 billion in net marketable debt, assuming an end-of-September cash balance of $110 billion. This borrowing estimate is $74 billion lower than announced in May 2011. The decrease in borrowing largely relates to lower outlays and cash balance adjustments.
  • During the October – December 2011 quarter, Treasury expects to issue $285 billion in net marketable debt, assuming an end-of-December cash balance of $100 billion.

During the April - June 2011 quarter, Treasury issued $190 billion in net marketable debt, and ended the quarter with a cash balance of $137 billion, of which $5 billion was attributable to the Supplementary Financing Program (SFP). In May 2011, Treasury estimated $142 billion in net marketable borrowing and assumed an end-of-June cash balance of $95 billion, which included an SFP balance of $5 billion.

just the odd 616 billion in issuance with sept 30 2011 cash at 110 billion. of course there is bulk maturing and being "round tripped" since there is no intention of every paying back one red cent

"The winner is the Tea Party. They have changed the debate in the country. I think they ought to do what George Aiken advocated in the worst of days of the Vietnam War, declare victory and go home. There will be another fight, a year from now. Obama is losing it. And I think that's where the big payoff will be and that's when the country will decide what everyone wants to do about debt and also about the size of government." – Charles Krauthammer Fox News July 31, 2011

http://www.breitbart.tv/krauthammer-tea-party-should-declare-victory/

And all the while the Establishment mouthpieces such as the New York Times and all the liberal talk show hosts such as Fox’s Juan Williams are just beside themselves that the Tea Party did't agree to go along with Washington politics as usual and has forced change.

Said Williams (and I paraphrase):  The Establishment thought these Tea Partiers could be remolded like sausage; instead, it looks like the Tea Party just decided to keep right on campaigning.

Said JUDGE ANDREW NAPOLITANO July 28, 2011: … “the federal government's total debt is almost equal to the total market value of the goods and services produced in this country by the private sector… whether or not there's a statutory debt limit, there is a very serious real economic limit to how much debt the taxpayers can tolerate, how much debt the economy can take. That limit has already been exceeded and that has contributing to the dismal economic situation. And raising the debt ceiling will make it worse.

“The economy is under arrest. It's been stimulated to death. It is now broken under the weight of all this unsustainable debt, regulation and central planning.

“That is what hangs in the balance in this debt ceiling debate and vote. That is why the line must be held. We hit our statutory debt limit in May, and trickery by the Treasury Department has allowed the government to spend with abandon for a few more months. But the real limit on how much debt our economy can absorb before it faces arrested development has already been passed. And if the popular Tea Party movement does not induce real change in Washington, eventually, our economy will die.

“We have to cut the government's supply off at the source. It must borrow no more, or we will reach the point as a people where we have no more money to spend. We will find ourselves slaves to debt in the land of the free.”

How many people will die from this inflation? This increase in barrowing is only the beginning of painful inflation.

You will know its bad, not when you close your doors and cover your windows as your youngest child dies of hunger. It will be when a strange women comes to your door asking for a plot in your yard to burry her's.

No, you say. History says otherwise. Grave plots cost money; money that wil not be available for food much less the dead. So what will your answer be. Yes or No.

These representives think that their pet company will save them and their children, grandchildren. Im proof that even perferred shares are not worth the papar they are printed on. When a company is in trouble they can default on past debt and issue new shares or go private.

There will come a time where its more profitable to ship produce and product overseas then it would be to sell it within the states.

If that time comes and im still here i would offer a plot for such a mother who showed such courage as to ask; and carve the headstoone  myself.

45million without food for 2 weeks out of the monrh. Soon that will be 1 week worth of food, then little more then a meal. At that point you will have mothers asking for a place to lay their child to rest.

Even if i profit from this madness, i dont.

Ohh they understand it all too well. here is a metaphor:

If you are a prize fighter, in say, boxing. But the people stop watching boxing for any multitude of reasons the market is going to decide how things evolve.

If people think the sport is too violent, they might start watching NFL where people wear pads. If people think the sport is not violent enough/boring they will start watching  UFC, which is much more violent and shorter matches.

Democrats and republicans are prize fighters in a sport that people think needs to be modified. They will insult each other at the press conference, take a dive here or there, and then meet up for the birthday parties of thier kids (lobbyists)

The problem is the two party federal system for a nation of 350 Million+ people is boring just like every movie after Rocky IV. The publicans will co-opt the tea party. the dems will co-opt socialist progressives. and ben will print money till it all falls apart.

Holding the president hostage?  What about the whole of the federal gov't holding the country hostage?  You want jobs, and people to have money, and for people to sleep well at night, how about getting rid of yourselves and leave the country the hell alone!  You all are the parasites bleeding us dry, freaking imbecile.

I'm listening to this on C-Span and what really strikes me is the absurdity of the entire debate.  Every speaker, whether for or against basically says the same thing.  Summarized: we have a debt problem in this country and the solution to our problem is to SPEND MORE MONEY that's why I'm for/against this bill and will be voting YES/NO.

Monday August 1 2011, just hours before Tuesday August 2 2011 and a compromise has been slipped through with totally inadequate time to read/discus it. Pressure to pass it due to impending doom will get it passed. This is how TARP got done and likely the very same folks that benefitted there will win here. Remember who votes yes today and be sure to not vote for them next November. Those statisticians out there should look for a correlation between positive TARP voters and those that stick their thumbs up today...

On July 31, Phelan reported "breaking news" that Libya's Al Fatah revolution (Gaddafi's 1969 bloodless coup, ousting King Idris from power, establishing the Libyan Arab Republic) regained power in Benghazi.

ladies and gentlemen, Benghazi has fallen. Gaddafi's forces retook it on July 31st. Imagine that. Gee, you can hear a pin drop in Paris..............

Is anybody listening to these hillbillies calling in?  These people litterally think that it is fair to pay in 1/5 to social security what they take out.  One woman says, we need/depend on these entitlements. I might not get my check.  Jeeeezzzzz.

I'm thinking about calling in and saying I own a liquor store and if the debt ceiling isn't raised and social security/disability/unemployment checks don't go out, I won't be able to pay my bills.

Yes, 90% of the people calling are scared about not getting 'their' entitlements. Shows you the scare tactics have worked on some people. It is almost as if CSPAN is vetting them to only get certain types of calls. Makes me wonder sometimes.

Whose dumb fuck algos are these...that are buying the Roach Motel [SPY] in the AH as the vote in the House is taken?  Seriously, after already determining that the bill would pass, on a high to low reversal debacle...what moron is out there, ignoring the absolute economic slide we are currently in, looking for a mythical pop on a shitty ETF that is nothing more than the Street's manipulation machine?

As people perpetually chatter about all the Average Joes out there who are dumb as rocks, I present to you the biggest moron currently in the room...that being the fellow who designed the algo to attempt an AH ramp on the Roach Motel on what is already known...and subsequently, destructive to the US economy...the debt ceiling hike bill...on a trading day as weak as this one was.

You sir, whoever you are, are the king of the idiots.

Mon, 08/01/2011 - 19:07 | 1514747 TwelfthVulture
TwelfthVulture's picture

Think about it.  Maybe not quite as dumb as you infer.  If (that's a mighty big if and I propose it's a moot point at this juncture) the market was "free", more specifically NOT MANIPULATED, then agreed, absolutely, an increase in the debt ceiling would cause the market to sell-off and sell-off with force.  I submit that the market has been manipulated since at least 2009 and therefore the market will rise substantially tomorrow with the desired passage.  Buy now, sell tomorrow, short wednesday/thursday (the ability to keep the market elevated for extended periods of time is facing diminishing returns), so there will be a "rational" selloff after the manipulated rise.  JMHO.

Mon, 08/01/2011 - 19:36 | 1514875 Cdad
Cdad's picture

Well, and if we are using the Roach Motel [SPY] as the proxy, I would submit to you that the sell off has already begun...for it is not rising with joy on the bill's passage...but was only front run for fools.

These things, of course, are not absolute, but I would suggest to you that, and especially after a reversal day like today, the risk reward on a catalyst that is known is to the downside...and so the fool who ignores that counts solely on manipulation being 100% predictable.  And if the market were just that predictable, we'd all be rich already, no?

And anyway, due to the construction of these ETFs, which rely perpetually on the "creation of units," I would say to you that anyone who plays ETFs at all is already a fool, no matter which one he chooses.  Market plunges commence directly in this group of instruments...and not usually the underlying stocks...but this gets all into how you can have infinity units of ETFs based on finite numbers of issued stock, and quite frankly, it give me a headache when I think about them.

ETFs are for fools...or people with super computers co located in the room next to where Duncan Neiderauer takes his afternoon constitutional...so have at 'em if you like but bring plenty of TP with you.

...and there it is.  After chasing the Roach Motel [SPY] last night, the totally bogus ETF will open more than a dollar per unit down this morning.  Brilliant.  No one could see it coming!

Good call on the market action today.  I was wrong but luckily on the sidelines.  Hope you had your shorts on.  I would say that I am surprised that the manipulators didn't prop it up today, but nothing really surprises me about this market anymore.  I do find it amusing that if things were different and the s&p would have rallied 30 points today every media organization on the planet would have attributed the rally to the debt deal, however, a 30 point selloff is blamed on a 20 basis point month over month decrease in consumer spending reported before the open.

Y'all need to chill....drastically reduce your lofty expectations of what you expect a few hundred CONgresspeeps to potentially accomplish in a nation divided up in so many ways, Rubik's Cube looks like a kinnygarden sums question in comparison.

Your perspicacious remarks, haranguing critiques, incessant complaints and other fussiness is badly misplaced.  Instead of bemoaning the appalling state of things you should embrace the chaos because Chaos is the natural progression of things the larger in size and inorganic diversity that they become. This isn't even the beginning of things getting progressively worse. This is the equivalent of the Donner Expedition with a great many serial tragedies which lie ahead.

Start from this premise:  The disUnited States Can not be governed for the 320,000,000 (growing to 500,000,000 people and beyond) human beans that live here.  It cannot be done. Simply cannot be done, and therefore our current system called by the name of Republican Democracy is a total sham because that system has been hijacked by 42,000 lobbyists representing a clique of coincidental interests, and----guess what?  They are not interested in us. They don't' even hate us.  They just don't care about us.

So, rant on if it makes you feel better to vent, but just maybe you could do so knowing that your rants are like that of an abandoned child in the wilderness screaming his fool little head off to dismally useless effect.
