Follow The Iowa Caucuses Live

Tyler Durden's picture

The buck stops here and the votes begin: starting at 7 pm CST, more than 100,000 voters - only a small percentage of the state's electorate - are expected to gather across the state at more than 800 public spots, and cast their votes for their GOP candidate with only three: Paul, Romney and for some unknown reason, Santorum expected to have a fighting changes. Results should begin coming in within a few hours. For those following the caucus for the only important reason: to see how Ron Paul does, or is allowed to do, we have the following live feeds for our readers' disposal.

CNN:

Fox News:

Politico:

Live results can be seen here as they trickle in:

And some more on the Iowa caucus from Reuters as the GOP primary kicks off officially:

Republican candidates crisscrossed Iowa in a last-minute bid for support on Tuesday ahead of the first contest of the 2012 U.S. presidential campaign, and at least three - Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul - appeared to have a shot at victory.

Iowa's caucuses are known more for weeding out candidates than picking the future president. Finishing in the top spot Tuesday night could provide a big boost in the state-by-state battle to select a Republican challenger to Democratic President Barack Obama in the Nov. 6 election.

Most of the candidates have topped opinion polls at one point in the volatile Republican race that until recently centered on televised debates rather than on-the-ground campaigning.

Polls show Romney, the favorite of the party's business wing, in a tight race with Paul, a U.S. congressman from Texas with libertarian views, and Santorum, a former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania who hopes to consolidate Iowa's large bloc of Christian conservatives. Romney is a former Massachusetts governor.

Many voters remain undecided. The unusual caucus process adds an element of unpredictability. Voters in Iowa gather in public meetings at hundreds of sites around the state such as schools, libraries and churches, listening to speeches touting the various candidates before casting their ballots.

"I'm kind of on the fence. A name that's been kind of sticking out, along with everyone, is Rick Santorum. We're not a hundred percent for sure yet," Des Moines resident Jason Harpineau said just hours before the start of the caucuses.

...

Sparsely populated Iowa only yields 28 delegates of the 1,143 needed to lock up the Republican presidential nomination, and those delegates aren't actually awarded for months after Tuesday's caucuses.

Santorum hopes to emerge as the latest conservative alternative to Romney.

Largely consigned to the margins for most of the race, Santorum is now fending off attacks from his rivals who see him as a new threat. On Tuesday, he said Paul was behind a wave of automated phone calls that question his anti-abortion and pro-gun credentials.

"Ron Paul is disgusting," Santorum told Fox News reporters.

A win by Paul would help him extend his minimal-government stance and broaden the appeal of his campaign outside his zealous base, many of them independents, disaffected Democrats and younger voters.

Skywalker odds.

With NDAA the Constitution is dead anyway.

Will the People rally for a memory of Freedom. Will the People realize and throw off the oppression?

I have but one life to give. I love the idealism of this People. I want true freedom.

Let us fight for true freedom. Let us truly desire an open society.

End tyranny. End the status quo.

Get ready for a real fight, my fellow Patriots.

Changed my mind...
  • I’m voting for Romney because I want to go to war with Iran. Well... I don’t personally want to be there fighting, but I want SOMEONE else to risk their lives so that I can feel as if I’ve done something positive for the world, like killing other humans!!!
  • I’m also voting for Romney because he has the same values as me and my friends. For example, I’m pro-abortion, and so is Romney, and my friends are anti-abortion, and so is Romney.
  • I also believe that I should be forced to buy government health care, and any other products and services the government wants me to buy, because thinking for myself is HARD and SOMEONE needs to be held accountable for my actions.
  • I’m also voting for Romney because it’s really cool to hate Obama, but I like his policies like stripping our bill of rights and making it legal for the government to hold american citizens without trial, so if I vote for Romney I get to say I voted against Obama (which is cool) and I also get to keep the hope and change!
  • Ron Paul is a whacko who thinks that we should follow the constitution. THE CONSTITUTION for god’s sake! What kind of lunatic wants to obey the law and not attack other people and not make money out of thin air?! A madman talking crazy talk, that’s who!

"He (Paul) wants to adhere strictly to the Constitution... that doesnt work in today's world, its too old, needs to be updated, blah, blah, Iran, blah blah, Santorum."

I was speechless. Mind you this is a 33yr old former TOTUS panty holder, whom is no longer impressed with the community fucker-upper.

Make Congress Vote on War on Iran by Patrick J. Buchanan

"The secretary was clear that we have no indication that the Iranians have made a decision to develop a nuclear weapon," said Pentagon press secretary George Little. "He (Panetta) didn't say that Iran would, in fact, have a nuclear weapon in 2012.

Little added that U.N. inspectors remain in Iran and have access to its uranium stockpile, and should Iran attempt a "breakout" by diverting low-enriched uranium to a hidden facility to convert it to weapons grade, U.N. inspectors would instantly detect the diversion.

"We would retain sufficient time under any such scenario to take appropriate action," said Little.

In short, the Pentagon does not believe Iran has made a decision to build atomic weapons, and the department is confident that, should it do so, the United States would have ample warning.

Little's definitive statement, "We have no indication that the Iranians have made a decision to develop a nuclear weapon," coincides with the consensus of all 16 U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA and Defense Intelligence Agency, in December 2007.

In that report, the entire U.S. intelligence community stated unanimously, with "high confidence," that Iran had given up its drive for an atom bomb back in 2003.

Hey Genius,

Pentagon spokesman Little made these statements last month. This is the current assessment from the Pentagon. You know, the guys that defend the United States of America. The 2003 date refers to the year in which the Iranians ended their nuclear weapons program.

Why do you believe that the Pentagon is wrong and you are right? From whom are you getting your information? Are they foreign sources?

Oh, and it has to be like underground a long way, to prevent them bunker-busterz from reachin' in and touchin' them.

Given their treatment by an openly hostile and belligerent nation which has shown its willingness to attack others for imaginary reasons, locating their facilities underground is a rational response. Given the following information, which the American corporate media accidentally forgot to report, it's not like Iran is being uncooperative or trying to hide what they're doing.

"Far from marching towards making a nuclear bomb, Iran has repeatedly offered to place additional restrictions on its nuclear program well in excess of its legal obligations, including opening the program entirely to joint US participation and limiting the number of centrifuges they operate. More recently they agreed to a Turkish-Brazilian brokered deal to export their enriched uranium for fabrication into reactor fuel abroad. In each case, the US deliberately undermined or ignored these offers."

Face it, the election was stolen

by Jim Stone, Freelance Journalist January 4, 2012

Well the chips are in, and the election is stolen.

It took a lot to kill Ron Paul, with my estimated margin of preference for Paul running over 30 percent absent statistical rigging, and others such as Drudge having him at 30 percent, Iowa WAS a slam dunk.

We have all been convinced over the years that people often change their minds the moment before they enter the polls, and THAT is why election results can be so unpredictable, but even if you believe people flop about in their beliefs and preferences like fish out of water, it does not wash in the case of Ron Paul.

We all know, - at least anyone who hits this site should know, that the type of people who support Ron Paul are firm in their convictions and will not flip flop on issues and between candidates. If Ron Paul lost in Iowa, this election was stolen, pure and simple.

Even despite the media smears and excessive voter turnout thanks to the many who voted a lot more than once via the open ID program, Ron Paul was at 30 percent in most exit polls. To drive the final nail, that secret vote count was essential; - so many people supported Ron Paul that the establishment could not get enough repeat voters to push back the wave.

For as long as we sit around and let the establishment steal our power from us, there will be no revolution. So many people are too flouridated, Zolofted and food poisoned to ever see the light of day, and in a democratic Republic that can kill a society. With the present condition of so many people, there is not likely to be an American future.

I don't think anyone except the circus cares about what a handful of bribe taking Iowa pig ranchero's think of this years crop of shit.  If they don't vote for Ron, they will be voting with their pork subsidies, at the trough, with bribe in hand and a receipt should there be blackmail. The votes are paid for in advance and that is the only story. Remember last time?   Some loser paid thousands per vote?

Maybe, but maybe these good men should consider that the only time that Christ became violent is when he took a whip and upended the tables of the money changers and chased them out of the Temple.

These same money changers control the Temple in America, Greece, Italy, Spain...

Funny how Christ never became violent against people of other faiths.

King James Version (KJV)

34Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

And here is where you trip up, like most others, and miss that this passage is to be taken in a SPIRITUAL context.  For you are the seed that falls on shallow ground.

The SWORD is the Word of God.  And not all those in any household or congregation are true believers.  In fact, very few.

Although I know this to be true, don't take me as one who counts himself among the righteous.  Fukk no.

Their total disregard for the teachings of Christ?

I will continue to refer people, religious or not, to the Jefferson Bible. It is a distillation of Christ's morals and wisdom. It is, in my opinion, the part of the Bible most ignored by politically motivated "Christianists".

"The Jefferson Bible, or The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth as it is formally titled, was Thomas Jefferson's effort to extract the doctrine of Jesus by removing sections of the New Testament containing supernatural aspects as well as perceived misinterpretations he believed had been added by the Four Evangelists."

The "organized hate" on Ron Paul and his values of Liberty is truly appalling.

Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate in the United States that demonstrates a brighter future FOR EVERYBODY.

I am sure the organized political sphere is in high gear for the next 9 months to continue to degrade Paul, his Campaign and the Citizens of the Republic in support.

But ask yourself this.  What IS getting better?  How IS a Romney, Gingrich or Santorum even vaguely different than a Hillary or an Obama?

Things are going to get worse economically.  And all those "patriotic" laws upheld by new and improved internal security forces and high tech sources and methods will eventually be turned upon the limousine liberals, banksters, lobbyists, the corporate yes men and yes even main stream media "reporters" and producers.  Talk to anyone that lived under fascism.

You might be safe inside your penthouse, but your food comes from the heartland and right now the heartland is in cardiac arrest.

I would go on, but you can't even use the word "Jew" in a sentence in the United States without being labeled a racist.  Yawn.  That card is so played.

Good luck with that War on Iran.

Ron Paul is the only one that is even trying to balance the budget. Nobody else is even honestly addressing it because the problem is so huge. I guess they figure if you close your eyes and pretend that there is no debt problem, everything will magically be ok.

This concept is not that hard. Borrowing 40% of what you spend with no plan to ever pay it back is not okay and it is a quick road to third world country status.

If ever one required proof that America's best days are behind her, this is it.  A community organizing self-professed "constitutional scholar" sits in the White House and strongly believes that the US Constitution is an impediment to "getting things done," while a strict constitutionalist is considered by many, if not most, to be an "extremist nutjob."  A sitting president directs US Armed Forces to attack a sovereign nation which is considered neither a threat to American shores nor interests, and without not only congressional approval and consent but even congressional notification yet a candidate who believes that American forces should be held in abeyance unless and until a clear and present danger exists is held out as an extremist isolationist.

Three counties in per Fox. Less than 1% of the vote, however, but looking promising so far:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2012/iowa-caucus-jan-3

  Candidate Votes %   Paul 9 43%   Perry 4 20%   Santorum 3 15% Romney 3 15% Gingrich 2 10% Bachmann - - Cain - - Huntsman - -

I did a little phone calling for Paul today & had several very enthusiastic Paul supporters & even a couple who were a little ticked off at getting the call, but were still strong supporters. I only had one who politely said she was not going to vote for him, and a couple who said they were undecided.

Not a very scientific poll, but they were in all parts of the state & I was surprised that he seemed to have a decided edge among those who claimed they would be voting.
