Full Letter From Greek "Anti-Bailout" Coalition Leader Tsipras To "The European Leadership"
Below is the letter that the man who will most likely be Greece's next premier sent out earlier today to "the European leadership" including Jean-Claude "I only lie when it is reeeeeealy important" Juncker, and Gollum Van Vompuy. According to local, pro-bailout Greek media, the tone is far more conciliatory than his remarks from the past few days. Well, it must be google-translated Greek to us, because we sure don't see much if any conciliation in the letter.
Full goog-translated copy below (original here):
Letter from the President of the Group SYRIZA MCM , A word Tsipras
the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso
the President of the European Council Van Rompuy
the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz
Notification:
President of European Central Bank Mario Drago
President of the Eurogroup Jean-Claude Juncker
Athens, Thursday 10 May 2012
Dear Mr. President,
I am sending you this letter after receipt of the exploratory mandate from the Greek President to ascertain the possibility of forming a Government enjoying the confidence of Parliament, under our Constitution. This letter builds upon the previous letter I sent on 21 February.
The vote of the Greek people Sunday May 6th nullifies/delegitimizes/makes illegal the political Memorandum of Understanding / Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policy signed by the previous Papademos government and the leaders of two political parties that had guaranteed the parliamentary majority of his government. Both parties recorded a loss of roughly 3.5 million votes, totaling 33.5% share of total votes.
Please note that before this, the MoU / MEFP had already been delegitimized in terms of its potential for economic success. But it's not just that the Memorandum of Understanding / MEFP failed to achieve its own objectives. It has also failed to address the structural imbalances and inequalities of the Greek economy. SYRIZA noted over the years the inherent weaknesses of the economy. All governments who work closely with the European Union ignored our recommendations for specific reforms.
Please also note that because of the policies of the Memorandum of Understanding / MEFP, Greece in 2012 is the only European country to endure its fifth successive year of deep recession during peacetime. Moreover the Bond Exchange Program (PSI) has failed to ensure the long-term viability of Greek debt which continues rising as a share of GDP. Austerity can in no way be the cure to recession. Therefore the immediate, socially just, reversal of the continuous decline of our economy is imperative.
We must urgently ensure economic and social stability in our country. For this purpose, we must take every political initiative to reverse the austerity and recession. Because apart from the lack of democratic legitimacy, continuing a program of internal devaluation is leading economy to catastrophy without creating conditions for recovery. The internal devaluation tends to lead to a humanitarian crisis.
Thus we need to rethink the entire context of the existing strategy, since it not only threatens Greece's social cohesion and stability, but is also a source of instability for the European Union and the EuroZone itself.
The common future of the European peoples is under the threat of such catastrophic choices. It is our deeply held belief that the economic crisis is of a European nature, and thus the solution must be found at the European level.
Sincerely,
Alexis Tsipras
President K.O SYRIZA
Vice President of the European Left Party

War Bitches!
“Gollum Van Vompuy”..
Hmm.. now that you mention it, Tsipras does look a little like Frodo.
And it’s going to take an awful lot prove to me that Drago isn’t a Necromancer.
And Jean Claude starring as Grima Wormtongue....
Youth unemployment in Spain and Greece is 50%+
That means riots in the streets! Austerity won't last.
http://www.planbeconomics.com/2012/05/10/chart-catastrophic-unemployment-in-spain-and-greece/
well, I for one hope that guy survives. I don't consider myself to be a socialist, but his letter seems pretty right-on to me.
But I agree with your sentiment - he should probably be more careful than usual crossing the street.
They are doing everything they can to downplay what he is saying but it's extremely serious. They know that all that debt of 500 billion will go bad and many banks and private institutions have are the creditors of this debt.
It's all Greek to me!!
I wonder where they think the money to spend (Often desribed as "Growth") is going to come from? Presumably, either from Germany or via a new Drachma which will be at the equivalent of 20 Euro cents or less almost immediately. That's a great solution. But at least we told the Germans where to go?!! Sheeesh...
I'm wondering what this bit is supposed to mean?
On the one hand he's saying the previous bailout deals are absolutely off, hereby terminated, because I must look after Greece's actual needs, in this state of profound internal collapse.
The next he's saying he still want's a "European-Level" (i.e. EU Commission) 'solution', for what is a European area economic problem?
Or is it that they have identified that European-level as the Greek's fundamental problem?
i.e. he still wants economic cooperation and inclusion aftee this notice of intent to default, like a true Sovereign.
But without your own currency, and thus a real devaluation, you ain't a Sovereign state at all.
So he's highlighting the failure of internal devaluation, simply to highlight the need for a competitive devaluation, something only a Sovereign Greek currency can do.
In other words, he's beating around the bush about it but is really saying Greece is going to become a full Sovereign State again, and therefore, by implication is also saying Greece will soon leave the Euro.
That's how the punchline of this letter reads to me.
And done on Friday to give them the weekend to digest it.
Ruh Roh
warm up the Panzers
In other words send us more money.....
"We want your money but we don't want to pay any bills"
That made perfect sense in terms of current conditions. What this letter does not do is accept the blame, or at least part of the bblame, for Greece's current shitbath. It offers little in the way of a path forward for the country, as well.
Loosely termed this is a "take our ball and go home letter". In a stricter context it is a "fuck you" to the rest of the EU.
Which Ouzo drinking country has one of the largest militaries in all of Europe?
What German speaking manufacturing powerhouse supplied the Ouzo drinkers with expensive weapory?
Which German speaking bankers extended credit to faciltate these transactions?
How many little brown envelopes passed from one pocket to another?
Is it true that in some languages the word "elite" is synonymous with the words "theft," "corruption," "robber baron," and similar terms?
Is it possible that the reporting of lazy Greek hairdressers retiring at age 22 may be inaccurate or incomplete picture of events?
That's funny, Turks drink ouzo too :p
Dont worry. If you don't pay for German tanks the guns will not work and the amunition is worth what you paid for it.
The internal devaluation tends to lead to a humanitarian crisis.
Just like ingesting Arsenic tends to lead to a human existential crisis!
Not so far in Amerika....
This is extra bullish. Athens stock exchange should be up another 5% tomorrow on this news.
Dear Greece,
Give us a ring.

We have a turd in the punch bowl...
He sounds like a real commie or fascist. Fuck that kind of clearly thought out, well intended and overall reasonable approach.
For me Mr. Alexis Tsipras sounds more a true NATIONALIST to put first the very interests of Greek people :-)
At least morally he needs not to feel responsible for all the messy debts since he is NOT part of the past establishment who forged all of them, some illegally with the Goldman's help.
This initial move shows him as a man of character and posseses the guts! I wish he will survive this tough time!
Now time to share the very pains with all the banksters!!!
ps. With under age 25 – 50%+ unemployment, the Greek people are dying, and they've no luxury of the Fed magical keyboard to create the digital version of "Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program" (SNAP) aka. FOOD STAMP hand outs to the unemployed!!
Idiot. He doesn't want to share the pain, he wants to export int and get paid for doing so.
That letter alone probably just added another 5 points.
Is it pronounced sip-less? Cyprus? Clue me in here...
"The internal devaluation tends to lead to a humanitarian crisis."
it's intended to
IOW, We are not going to honor the Memorandum of the previous government.
He said “rethink” and “previous” government. Those are the key words.
Greek governments, since getting free of Turkey in the 19th Century, have gone bankrupt every 15 years on average. What amazes is not that this latest clown prince will too but that the rest of the moronic world lends to them in the first place.
Well, it's easy to lend money when you can just create it out of thin € air.
Does the concept of "fraudulent loan" tell you something?
Dear Jean-claude:
While our time together has been wonderful and i will always remember you, i think i need to be alone for a while to sort things out. it's not you, it's me. but if you would like to stay in touch while we see others, i'm okay with that too, i guess.
and i've sold the engagement ring you gave me.
... could we at least be 'friends with benefits?' ...
dont they know that you can not overspend unless you have a printing press like we do
Panzers on the way.
Dear Bernanke,
I have nothing else to write, but FUCK YOU.
"The common future of the European peoples is under threat of such destructive choices. It's deep belief that our problem is a European crisis, and thus at European level must find the solution"
The last part sounds to me like he is looking towards central planning for the solution.
But the internal devaluation bit tells you he's going for a competitive devaluation ... i.e. via non euro based currency.
What he's saying is; we can't get any more cheap or free euros, because there are too many strings attached now, and even if there were not, we are now too fucked anyway, so having milked that cow dry, we will now do a real devaluation, with a different currency.
PS: BTW your banks and national balance sheets are totally fucked also - it was a real bad idea to bailout the banks for so long ... but ... so long ... and thanks for all the fish.
Well at least Obama is supporting Greek practices...
his bosses want the whole world to become like greece, maybe thats why...
"Because apart from the lack of democratic legitimacy, the continuity of the program internal devaluation leads to the destruction of the economy without creating conditions for recovery."
Since when did the EU care about "democratic legitimacy"?
Fuck me? No, no, no, fuck you!
Soon to be popular t-shirt in Greece:
Fuck You
You Fucking
Fucks
It is apparent that the Greeks have reached the point of exhaustion. The reforms demanded won't work for whatever reason. They can't dig out of the hole they are in. It's mathematically impossible. So, with no honest work available the honest Greek has had enough and will do nothing. He'll wait until the politicians do the right thing and denounce the debt. Only then will the country start to heal and make progress, right Iceland?
What about he lets the big banks blow up, get the fuck out of the euro and arrest all the traitors like Papademos and Goldman Sachs puppets who bankrupted Greece??
Our big fat Greek wedding cannot continue without more moolah...please send in enclosed postage paid envelope.
Sounds like somebody is about to have a jacuzzi accident...
I'm hoping for a really cheap vacation in the Greek islands this summer - counting on a devalued Drachma to get that done. C'mon, let's get this next election underway so we can finally back the fuck out and control our own destiny instead of Mr. Pinhead Van RomPoy and the other non-elected technocrats that subsist off of our pain and suffering.
Brussels, where leaches have two-legs and speak in tongues. Brussels, the capital of a virtual world in a fake country. Brussels, where the only good beauocrat is a dead technocrat...
the letter should simply say:
dear Germany,
we invented trigonometry
fuck off.
go on and learn the rule of three.
Simple math and common sense...
Greece invented the rule of 3.14.
Finally Europeans have to make their own "Enemy of the State" movie (documental?) with greek in main role.
Just as with the euro, if you give the Greek any role, it's going to fail.
Dear Bankers,
Blow us...
Sincerely yours,
Everyone
This letter is a no-starter.
The super-socialist tells to anybody who is ready to listen that EU must support and finance the Greece welfare state preserving their present standards of living.
Unfortunately for Greece, EU must draw a line. There are absolutely no reasons to support the present Greece “paradise”. Greece is a good place to start. Greece must return to a stable and self-sustained economy.
The Zionist Banking Cartel masters are upset that Greece did not kneel to all their demands but there are plenty room for negotiation. In any case, it will be a long story before a violent collapse of the NWO dream.
As for Greece people, they are not ready to revolt. They are not starving yet!
It's obvious to me he has been reading ZH and knows the truth about the situation.

Does anyone else think Hollande wrote it?
I DO so hope he sent at least a bcc to the nice white-haired lady that runs the IMF.
Greece will have a new government in a few days. PASOK, ND and Democratic Left will form a coalition with 41 + 108 + 19 = 168 seats, a majority. They will keep Greece in the euro and cooperate with the Troika.
Greece turmoil will be forgotten in a week. So please stop all the noise.
I wonder if he has a plan to have his budget balanced the day after he declares default on the debt accrued by the previous rulers.
The fly borrows money to build a fancy house in the spiders web, but then the fly can't make the payments so the spider not only wants the house he plans on devouring the fly as well. All according to plan ......
im dying to see the response...

The Big Picture: Regressing To The Trend LineThe minute the Greeks tell the fucking fascist scum in Brussels to fuck off - and leave the EU and dump the Euro - I'm ordering a vacation in Greece. I'm going to drink huge amount of ouzo and perhaps join the riots when the EUrocrats in Athens will be fried in their own fat.
Why not have a Zerohedge gettogether in Greece where we can bitch at each other in person and buy lots of ouzo for cheap drachmas? Anybody with me?
lets buy some isles, and turn them to tourist eden's with plenty of ouzo too!!!http://www.magsarchive.com/2010/07/andreani-tsafou-playboy-greece-july.h...
Go Greece go. I don't care who it is who gets to "rule" the country.
Whatever you do, tell the bankers and soveriegn debt holders to piss off and die.
PS Tyler. please delete my ID
because we sure don't see much if any conciliation in the letter
because you don't get Europe, Tyler. wake up and stop telling yourself BS. Syriza is leftist, commie. like maoist Barosso. they will find common language VERY fast:
the solution must be found at the European level.
here's translation for you: Barosso, old buddy, now that Merkozy is over, reclaim control and finish what we've started.
Wel... ok, back to the stone age, Greek thieves. Europ will probably stop paying your debts, your food and your oil. Oh – and take all your gold as collateral.
Have a nice life as new Turkish province (ask the Kurds how thta is working).
