Full Letter From Greek "Anti-Bailout" Coalition Leader Tsipras To "The European Leadership"

Tyler Durden's picture

Below is the letter that the man who will most likely be Greece's next premier sent out earlier today to "the European leadership" including Jean-Claude "I only lie when it is reeeeeealy important" Juncker, and Gollum Van Vompuy. According to local, pro-bailout Greek media, the tone is far more conciliatory than his remarks from the past few days. Well, it must be google-translated Greek to us, because we sure don't see much if any conciliation in the letter.

Full goog-translated copy below (original here):

Letter from the President of the Group SYRIZA MCM , A word Tsipras

the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso
the President of the European Council Van Rompuy
the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz

Notification:

President of European Central Bank Mario Drago
President of the Eurogroup Jean-Claude Juncker

Athens, Thursday 10 May 2012

Dear Mr. President,

I am sending you this letter after receipt of the exploratory mandate from the Greek President to ascertain the possibility of forming a Government enjoying the confidence of Parliament, under our Constitution. This letter builds upon the previous letter I sent on 21 February.

The vote of the Greek people Sunday May 6th nullifies/delegitimizes/makes illegal the political Memorandum of Understanding / Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policy signed by the previous Papademos government and the leaders of two political parties that had guaranteed the parliamentary majority of his government. Both parties recorded a loss of roughly 3.5 million votes, totaling 33.5% share of total votes.

Please note that before this, the MoU / MEFP had already been delegitimized in terms of its potential for economic success. But it's not just that the Memorandum of Understanding / MEFP failed to achieve its own objectives. It has also failed to address the structural imbalances and inequalities of the Greek economy. SYRIZA noted over the years the inherent weaknesses of the economy. All governments who work closely with the European Union ignored our recommendations for specific reforms.

Please also note that because of the policies of the Memorandum of Understanding / MEFP, Greece in 2012 is the only European country to endure its fifth successive year of deep recession during peacetime. Moreover the Bond Exchange Program (PSI) has failed to ensure the long-term viability of Greek debt which continues rising as a share of GDP. Austerity can in no way be the cure to recession. Therefore the immediate, socially just, reversal of the continuous decline of our economy is imperative.

We must urgently ensure economic and social stability in our country. For this purpose, we must take every political initiative to reverse the austerity and recession. Because apart from the lack of democratic legitimacy, continuing a program of internal devaluation is leading economy to catastrophy without creating conditions for recovery. The internal devaluation tends to lead to a humanitarian crisis.

Thus we need to rethink the entire context of the existing strategy, since it not only threatens Greece's social cohesion and stability, but is also a source of instability for the European Union and the EuroZone itself.

The common future of the European peoples is under the threat of such catastrophic choices. It is our deeply held belief that the economic crisis is of a European nature, and thus the solution must be found at the European level.

Sincerely,

Alexis Tsipras

President K.O SYRIZA

Vice President of the European Left Party

They are doing everything they can to downplay what he is saying but it's extremely serious.  They know that all that debt of 500 billion will go bad and many banks and private institutions have are the creditors of this debt.

It's all Greek to me!!

I wonder where they think the money to spend (Often desribed as "Growth") is going to come from? Presumably, either from Germany or via a new Drachma which will be at the equivalent of 20 Euro cents or less almost immediately. That's a great solution. But at least we told the Germans where to go?!! Sheeesh...

I'm wondering what this bit is supposed to mean?

" ... It is our deeply held belief that the economic crisis is of a European nature, and thus the solution must be found at the European level. ..."

On the one hand he's saying the previous bailout deals are absolutely off, hereby terminated, because I must look after Greece's actual needs, in this state of profound internal collapse.

The next he's saying he still want's a "European-Level" (i.e. EU Commission) 'solution', for what is a European area economic problem?

Or is it that they have identified that European-level as the Greek's fundamental problem?

i.e. he still wants economic cooperation and inclusion aftee this notice of intent to default, like a true Sovereign.

But without your own currency, and thus a real devaluation, you ain't a Sovereign state at all.

So he's highlighting the failure of internal devaluation, simply to highlight the need for a competitive devaluation, something only a Sovereign Greek currency can do.

In other words, he's beating around the bush about it but is really saying Greece is going to become a full Sovereign State again, and therefore, by implication is also saying Greece will soon leave the Euro.

That's how the punchline of this letter reads to me.

And done on Friday to give them the weekend to digest it.

That made perfect sense in terms of current conditions. What this letter does not do is accept the blame, or at least part of the bblame, for Greece's current shitbath. It offers little in the way of a path forward for the country, as well.

Loosely termed this is a "take our ball and go home letter". In a stricter context it is a "fuck you" to the rest of the EU.

For me Mr. Alexis Tsipras sounds more a true NATIONALIST to put first the very interests of Greek people :-)

At least morally he needs not to feel responsible for all the messy debts since he is NOT part of the past establishment who forged all of them, some illegally with the Goldman's help.

This initial move shows him as a man of character and posseses the guts! I wish he will survive this tough time!

Now time to share the very pains with all the banksters!!!

ps. With under age 25 – 50%+ unemployment, the Greek people are dying, and they've no luxury of the Fed magical keyboard to create the digital version of "Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program" (SNAP) aka. FOOD STAMP hand outs to the unemployed!!

But the internal devaluation bit tells you he's going for a competitive devaluation ... i.e. via non euro based currency.

What he's saying is; we can't get any more cheap or free euros, because there are too many strings attached now, and even if there were not, we are now too fucked anyway, so having milked that cow dry, we will now do a real devaluation, with a different currency.

PS:  BTW your banks and national balance sheets are totally fucked also - it was a real bad idea to bailout the banks for so long ... but ... so long ... and thanks for all the fish.

It is apparent that the Greeks have reached the point of exhaustion. The reforms demanded won't work for whatever reason. They can't dig out of the hole they are in. It's mathematically impossible. So, with no honest work available the honest Greek has had enough and will do nothing. He'll wait until the politicians do the right thing and denounce the debt. Only then will the country start to heal and make progress, right Iceland?

This letter is a no-starter.

The super-socialist tells to anybody who is ready to listen that EU must support and finance the Greece welfare state preserving their present standards of living.

Unfortunately for Greece, EU must draw a line. There are absolutely no reasons to support the present Greece “paradise”. Greece is a good place to start. Greece must return to a stable and self-sustained economy.

The Zionist Banking Cartel masters are upset that Greece did not kneel to all their demands but there are plenty room for negotiation. In any case, it will be a long story before a violent collapse of the NWO dream.

As for Greece people, they are not ready to revolt. They are not starving yet!
