Goodbye Super-Committee, Hello Stupor-Committee: It's Official - "No Agreement"

Tyler Durden's picture

As if anyone is actually surprised by the headlines appearing from Bloomberg with regard the Super-Committee - which in retrospect is perhaps a little aggressively-named:

*SUPERCOMMITTEE SAID TO ANNOUNCE NO AGREEMENT REACHED

*U.S. DEBT SUPERCOMMITTEE ANNOUNCEMENT SAID LIKELY ON MONDAY

While not immediate, it would seem obvious that a ratings downgrade can't be far behind this event given the reasoning for the last downgrade and the clear indication by this lack of agreement that nothing-has-changed.

S&P recently said that a 'watered down' package from the Super Committee would put downward pressure on the rating. Moody’s said the outcome of the Super Committee would be informative but not decisive for its rating analysis.

We would also assume that Defense and Healthcare stock analysts will be bombarding inboxes in 3..2..1..with buy recommendations...

I see you have no appreciation for irony.

What is insane is to think that you can balance the Federal Budget without either increasing taxes or savaging middle class entitlements.

You have to pick your poison.  I'm in favor of increasing some taxes along with some entitlement reform (particularly cost savings in medicare).  You and the Republicans just want to savage entitlements.  If the Republicans actually got what they wanted they would be swept from the face of the earth the first election after their changes came into effect.

The amounts that can be saved just by squeezing the bureaucrats is pretty minor.

Actually, I have an exquisite sense of irony.

The only "entitlement" the middle class ever expected from its government was that Social Security Insurance would prevent them from having to beg and grovel from government or anyone else in their retirement years.

Thats been stolen by the same people you now defend and asking for trust, patience & more of our hard earned money. Its tax/cash flow now isn't it?...not insurance backed by any asset or savings. Its now a liability, made so by your beloved beaurcrats & statists.

Ironic, no?

Another credit downgrade is a prime concern. Trust me on this one. The republicans don't control the outcome on this presidents agenda. Obama does. Unless of course you want to believe the mainstream narrative the media plays. If you want to believe that it's all the republicans fault then tell me how in the world other state and local governments function in this country. $4 trillion more in debt in three years time and the president has never submitted a budget. He is a clown act and he will be a one term act.

LIke the Peoples Front of Judea (in Monty Python's Life of Brian) showing up at Brian's crucifixion, the best we can hope with for the Super Duper Committee is, if they even come up with something,  it will be too late.

Break it up, send 'em all home, and tell them not to come back for a year or so.  Checks will be in the mail.  Go to Tahiti and enjoy life, it's short.  A do nothing Congress is a good Congress.  The less the better.

It was these 12 stools, see.  6 and 6, equal representation by every bank and slush fund, tie tack, kierkegaard...  off topic,  sorry.

So there are these 12 stools who are supposed to come up with something they can vote on and then the president is the tiebreaker.

So the 6 and 6 couldn't even vote on voting on something for him to break the tie?

A stall from day one.  They can all blame the others, each other, the pres.  baaa,  baaaa

And this is after the real congress allowed the stool collection to be created by shirking their duty to do as charged by their oath of office.

Doesn't seem like they get their job description?  Looks like they have impeached themselves.

indeed,... this confirms my thesis that "DC", is a, 'atypical split personality of a singularity' [ie. the grandest of amoeba's] -

"hypocracy runs deep and swift in 'DC', and seems that of mimicking the  entrail-readings of an ancient aboriginal democratic dogma,... an idealistic yaw, yet rabid-bitten, this adulteress snake-bitten nemesis, now gone mad --- always swimming upstream, forever rudderless in deep waters --- but,... but, those damn republicans make hypocrisy such a commonality,... and the proletariat their 'cross-to-bear', such an unnecessary forbearance have they whittled themselves into as that of an adopted 'Faustian-bargaineer',...  as they perambulate an absent - that of a vulpines' consciousness" --- thusly, one that thou maketh even,...  satan blush!"

btw, the honourable, 'Dr. Ron Paul' deserves, 'NONE' of the aforementioned criticism above - tis a shame, that such a grand ole fella, such as he, waste his 'pearls of wisdom' in a pigpin of swill with the politicians that would sell their country to the highest bidder on both sides of the aisle -

there's a word for this action,... it's called a "Traitor" !!!

Now I can see why Congresspeople are still allowed to supplement their incomes via perfectly legal insider trading and eyes-wide-open conflicts of interest.  Were these opportunities for building non-public servant type wealth shut down, America would lose this sort of "talent"---no more obviously demonstrated than by this budget fiasco---to the private sector.  Couldn't have that, could we?

It's the exact same logic why we needed to allow Wall Street to pay itself record bonuses just after requiring massive taxpayer bailouts in order to survive, and why America cannot afford to have a finger-on-the-financial-nuclear-trigger, TBTF-gap with other nations.

If any of you do not understand all of this, well, you are just not one of them.

Could the USA not jusy cut HALF of the military and half of the Pentagons budget.?

Would that not be practical.

After all, does the USA not spend more on military than all othe countries combined totals...???

No it can't, because the Pentagon budget is a jobs plan.  Defense manufacturers are very shrewd, they ensure that parts for defense systems are manufactured in different states, thereby currying political favor with state representatives.  The military industrial complex has grown too large.  And the sad reality is that hundreds of thousands of jobs are at risk of the Pentagon budget were slashed in half.  Politicians don't have the stomach to make such large cuts because they are cowards.

I would not expect a downgrade in the near future unless they attempt to undo the sequestration triggers.  Believe me, the U.S. SHOULD be downgraded but it's not in the cards at the moment.

You have a $1 trilliion deficit and they can't find a $120 million cut or tax increase.

They aren't trying!
