Greek Deputy Labor Minister Resigns To Protest Austerity Deal
This is the first of many such political moves, and is hardly in anticipation of public adulation once tomorrow's two day strike beings , which as labor unions have noted will be to protest the debt deal that is the "tombstone of Greek society." For now rotations at the top are voluntary. That will soon change. From Bloomberg: "Greek Deputy Labor and Social Security Minister Yiannis Koutsoukos resigned his cabinet position to protest austerity measures agreed to by Greek political leaders, according to a statement sent from the Pasok lawmaker’s Athens-based office today." As always, the less people have to lose (and minimum wages just got cut that much more, not to mention non-existent pensions), the less they have to fear from standing up to the myth of the insolvent welfare state.

That's okay, Goldman Sachs is sending a man right over. Same as it ever was.
Was it truly voluntary? Or was he pushed out to make room for that Goldman Sachs guy?
Actually, Lloyd Blankfapolous is coming in to take the helm.
You gotta love this guy "the myth of the insolvent welfare state" You mean they aren't running out of other people's money to spend?
He is right! The concept of 'other peoples' money is also a myth.' What other people are you talking about? The rich don't pay taxes and the poor make the rich rich. Social safety nets are paid out of taxes paid by the poor and deficit spending that the rich collect interest. The poor are on the hook for the debts that are created out of thin air.
... point here is, that the poor people in the rich European countries will have to pay the bill for the rich people in the poor European countries.
Now he resigns, oh good going, after how long of his people getting hammered? What a guy.
As usual, I stand confused.
They strike for two days? And then what? What could that action possibly accomplish? Seems they would strike until whatever demands they have are met.
I fail to understand any of this stuff.
I lived in France. Their strikes never made sense to me either. "En greve" everywhere, and then the management always caved and gave them pay for the day they were striking. Anyone out there understand this stuff? I've taken all the academic courses related to this stuff, but I don't think the Greeks or French did.
you have to experience this tradition to understand it. nothing works. nothing. you simply can't help noticing that there is a general strike. you can't help this becoming the number one talking point in your family.
and in this tradition is also built in the fact that every general strike that fails to achieve anything (most of them) makes the strikers even more angry. win-win, from the strike organizer's point of view.
The only strike that can help them is a lightning strike. This may reinvigorate the brain for them to realize they are clinging to an old, old set of values and beliefs that have died. They died many years ago but the Greek government's self-serving attempt to keep it going as long as possible has now made things much, much worse.
Wait wait wait...you said Greek Labor in the same sentence. I hear all the labor done in Greece is by people from further east in Europe. Do they really need a cabinet position to make sure their immigrants do the work?
All they can do is RESIGN in 'protest'? Pathetic....and probably taking $50 million with him.
What did you expect him to do? Hari Kari? A Columbine? I'm curious to know.
Greeks have still pension and wages 2 or 3 times as high as those pensions and wages of the Slowaks. And those Slowaks now have to bail out those Greeks MFs. That´s the reality the Greeks still don´t get. The standard of life of the Greeks has to be lowered by 50 % in order to meet their revenues.
This maybe true however, the Greeks beleive they diserve the current social programs and austerity will be the political death of any politician. Just imagine the outrage when SSN, Medicaid, Medicare, welfare, etc. gets cut in this country...It will be a blood bath for politicians.
Resigning... how FRENCH of him...
What about you FIGHT and TELL THE TRUTH TO THE PEOPLE INSTEAD???
Fighting takes balls and truth hurts. Politicians generally have no balls and hardly ever tell anything close to truth. So resigning is the easy way and i'm sure he has a nice tax payer funded nest egg waiting in a Swiss bank account.
Austerity blows, the Greeks know this. We will all know it soon enough....shoulda been a banker.
He was going to get layed off anyways!
These lazy ass do nothing Greeks! Just wait until they get booted out of the Euro, then they'll REALLY find out what austerity is all about! I can't wait....
these vacancies will be filled with bankster thugs...the greek people better start removing the traitors quickly or greece will become a colony of the rockefeller-mic-yale-cia club....
Actually, his stand is a bold one: In Greece there are no jobs for him to go to.
He resigned to get the hell out of Dodge... before he was hung from a lampost... This garbage to protect the banker elites from loss is a real belloow... they don't even pretend it is about helping the citizens, after all, they are too busy rioting...
since they have an election ina few month , it will be interesting to watch what they will do to the current PM. If things won't improve ( for what ever reason) i think people will bring a "treason" clause.
I read somewhere today that there is talk of postponing the next election (due in April 2012) to April 2013. Possibly forced on them by the Troika?

Good for him.
How great would it be if they all left the country and went to Germany to find jobs?
Socialism es muerte :)
Greece will soon be free 'cause.......
"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to loose"
