Guest Post: Go Figure, The Poorest Place In Europe Is Run By Communists

Go Figure, The Poorest Place In Europe Is Run By Communists

Ah Moldova… the poorest country in Europe, which just so happens to have had a Communist party majority in its parliament since 1998.

These two points are not unrelated.

Despite having achieved its independence from the Soviet Union over 20 years ago, the state is still a major part of the Moldovan economy…from setting prices and wages to media, healthcare, agricultural production, air transport, and electricity.

Under such management, it’s no wonder, for example, that Moldova has to import 75% of its electricity. It is the exact opposite of self-sustaining.

The government does a reasonable job of chasing away foreigners as well.

Agriculture is the mainstay of Moldova’s economy… and while on one hand they say “we welcome foreign investment in agriculture,” on the other they say “foreign investors cannot own agricultural property.” It’s genius.

The average wage here is less than $300 per month… all while Moldovans’ purchasing power is getting eaten away by inflation. GDP per capita, meanwhile, is in the ballpark of many destitute African nations like Swaziland.

Go figure, the poorest place in Europe is run by Communists

Of course, not everyone is poor. The politicians at the top of the totem pole are doing great, always pulling the strings in their favor at the expense of everyone else.

Since the last election in 2010, the Communists still hold the most seats in Parliament. The three other main parties banded together to form a majority coalition to take control of government.

Very little has changed. The Communists are still a powerful force in Moldovan politics, and the other parties aren’t exactly champions of economic freedom.

They bicker away about the budget, about who to tax and how much to tax, about what laws to pass and what regulation to implement. As usual, it’s the exact opposite of what they should be doing.

Go figure, the poorest place in Europe is run by Communists

Economic freedom… all freedom, really, is not built by passing laws and rules and regulations.

Rather, it’s like what Michelangelo said about sculpting: to achieve growth and freedom, one need only remove the unnecessary stone, underneath which lies the masterpiece.

The likelihood of these guys figuring it out, unfortunately, is zero. And that doesn’t just go for Moldova, but all western governments.

Europe is now taking a dangerous slide back into Communism… or at least steep radicalism. Neo-Nazi parties and openly Marxist politicians are dominating the scene.

Go figure, the poorest place in Europe is run by Communists

This is nothing new. As usual, history is full of lessons from when people have turned to radical figures in tough times.

The French, for example, were driven to behead their King in the late 18th century due to dismal economic conditions.

They traded an absolute monarch (Louis XVI) who wrecked the economy for a bloodthirsty dictator (Robespierre) who continued wrecking the economy, and eventually traded him for yet another dictator (Napoleon) who continued wrecking the economy.

This is the vicious cycle that forms when an entire nation reaches the point of desperation, and we are seeing signs of this forming all over the west. The only question is… who will become the next Moldova?

"The Israeli Ministry of Defense was directly involved in what Scheper-Hughes called Israel’s “”˜illicit [in other nations] national ”˜program’ of transplant tourism...Members of the Ministry of Defense or those closely related to them” accompanied transplant junkets.

In her Forum 13 lecture, Scheper-Hughes said that investigating Israeli organ trafficking over the past decade had taken her “from country to country to country to country.”

One of these is Moldova, the poorest country in Europe—and homeland of Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman—where 90 percent of the people earn less than $2 a day. A 2001 BBC report on organ trafficking described the situation: “Hundreds of Israelis have created a production line that starts in the villages of Moldova, where men today are walking around with one kidney."

Kosovo Albania is dominated by the US having established a huge military base over there right after the "liberation" of Kosovo.

So this makes the difference. Moldavia is communistic. Kosovo is capitalitic.

But both places are competing for the No.1 poorest place in Europe.

And Kosovo has also its organ trafficking scandal.

So there is little difference again.  But there are differences. Kosovo was worth fighting for.  There are huge natural resources, such as gold, copper, high grade coal (the biggest  reservoir in whole Europe). The US is the "protector" of these resources owned by this soon to be independent state Kosovo.

No wonder, that Kosovo is now a world class nternational Mafia and drug trafficer place. It comes all together in Kosovo, drugs, guns, prostitution, organ trafficking, money laundering, hired guns, mercenaries. murder etc.

Having this all in mind, one might get the idea, that communist Moldavia is a better place than capitalistic Kosovo.

The whole EU is a communist experiment. The plan is to 'harmonize' living standards over all consituents. That basically means the standard of living in the richer countries will be lowered to subsidize the poorer ones. That IS communism and, like all communist experiments, it will fail.

Considering what big ag and Monsanto have done to our land, not allowing "foreign investment" to own land might not be such a bad idea.

We actually already have soviet style "communism" in the USA right now. Just compare the structure of corporations
(mini-dictatorships) to the premier and politburo. They said they represented the people too. Do our corporations, where the CEO controls who is on the board, represent the shareholders? Give me a fucking break! Communism is what the early church had in the book of acts; the oligarchies and dictatorhips of the 20th century that you call communism were nothing of the kind.

You have another article here proving JPM is 77% on the government tit. We have a central bank that calls the few banking oligarchs (that run this clusterfuck and decide who gets  "elected" in the government) the ECONOMY in true Orwellian bullshit.

We are a soviet style dictatorship (there was NOTHING communist about it - it was fascism, pal) with better PR. PERIOD.

Capitalism sounds like a great idea. Maybe we should try that in the USA.

Does the author even understand what comunism means today? I'm from Moldova and I can tell you that today's comunists aren't the same as in the Soviet Union for example. Those fucktards don't give a shit about the party they're part of, nor the means they can get rich and spend few thousand euros on a trip in Saint-Tropez. Yes Moldova lives in poverty, but we will deal with this problem. It's a young country - 20 years ago we were part of the Soviet Union. We don't have natural ressources like other nations do, yet Moldovans manage to live correctly, to have a healthy lifestyle and not to ruin their descendants' lives, by borrowing way more than they currently earn. If that's the best way you can get "economic growth", then it seems to me that the idiots who steer your contries aren't more useful than those in Moldova.

That muppet doesn't believe a word he's saying. Nobody in Moldova expects something good from the ruling "elite". People work hard and they help each other (at least those who where not brainwashed by the western lifestyle), and that's, in my opinion, something humans tend to forget on the way to prosperity. I think the fear of debt is the most valuable asset simple Moldovans posses, because poor people know the pain of working for somebody else and being abused. As for the public debt, I agree that the oligarchs can push the country further into slavery. But ordinary people can do nothing about it (except from killing 'em & their relatives in order to get rid of the bad genes...?).

Profile: Who Is Moldova's New President-Elect?

"It took lawmakers in Moldova more than 900 days to find a person who could muster the 61 votes (out of 101) to become the country's president."

"Alexei Tulbure, a former Moldovan ambassador to the United Nations, said on March 13 that Timofti had done nothing to advance judicial reform. "I personally  know him only as the chairman of the Supreme Council of Magistrates. During his tenure there have been no changes. The whole judicial system is profoundly corrupt," he said.

Sergiu Mocanu, leader of the Anti-Mafia movement that campaigns against corruption, echoed this sentiment at a Chisinau press conference on March 13. "If Nicolae Timofti is elected Moldova's president, the 20-year-long cohabitation of the political class in Chisinau with the judiciary will conclude in a full marriage," he said."

The key word is "homogeneous" populations.

In Sweden they are having difficulties integrating the Muslim population.  When the Muslims become a larger percentage of the population and they start demanding their own freedoms and Sharia laws, as well as relaxing immigration laws, then they will see how much socialism works.

Socialism: the majority eating the minority.

you should bone up on the nordic/scandanavian states...they are NOTHING like southern europe. in the 90s, when the scandanavian banking system went through their own crisis, the swedish govt didnt feed money into the banks, they protected the depositers and allowed the banks to go kaput.

you see, the nordic states have more more of a direct democracy and they are small enough where the govt actually listens to the people as opposed to special interests (aka banks)....there is a difference between a country whose sociaist policies directly benefit the very people who decide on such a structure vs. a country whose socialist policies are implemented to benefit the elite............................

"[- - -] the swedish govt didnt feed money into the banks, they protected the depositers and allowed the banks to go kaput. [- - -] where the govt actually listens to the people as opposed to special interests [- - -]"

My comments:

I´m not so sure about that. Nordea did not go bankrupt. The bank issued new shares which the government bought. SE-Banken was saved by the Wallenberg "group".

Later on, the Swedish national debt was reduced by looting pensions funds controlled by the government and by lowering future pensions. Many big government owned companies have also been sold.

Most of the problems in Sweden in the early 1990s were caused by the peg to the Ecu (the forerunner of the Euro) and the 500 % interest rates that followed. Excessive supply of labour was also problem like today. Up to now, the Swedish economy has been doing well due to tax cuts (the government has sold government assets which has enabled the government to lower the taxes) and rising housing prices which has made people feel richer and more inclined to spend. However, I doubt that this is a sustainable strategy. I doubt that the general public in Sweden in the long run will be more affluent by privatizations that have - temporarily - facilitated some tax cuts and by propping up housing prices due to limited supply and increased demand due to a growing population and low interest rates.

The general objective for the Swedish governments have - at least for the last 50 years - not been to make the general public more affluent but to consolidate long-term power.

No, it forms in cultures that either externally are driven into poverty (eg Germany after WWII) or self-inflict it (eg Soviet Union).
