How "Crazy Survivalists" Make The World A Better Place

I was recently interviewed by a journalist for a local newspaper who was developing a story on the exponential rise of the “prepper lifestyle” in America, most especially in Western Montana.  Being an outsider to the Liberty Movement, she was naturally curious as to what motivated us to make what some in our culture would see as a drastic and bewildering leap away from the mainstream.  She was equally fascinated with our willingness to travel great distances and make substantial sacrifices to live in regions like the American Redoubt.

I will not deny, Montana has indeed become a “hotbed” of survivalism and Constitutionalism, or what the Southern Poverty Law Center would call “extremism and domestic terrorism”.  I lived in Pittsburgh for years while writing for Neithercorp and Alt-Market and rarely ran into like minded individuals aware of the tenuous status of our society.  Within days of moving to Montana, I was being recognized by complete strangers in supermarkets excited to discuss the inner workings of Keynesian monetary corruption, precious metals investment, and Alinsky disinformation tactics.  Yeah…I know…it’s weird.

After living for a while in the Redoubt, you begin to forget that there are still many people in this country that are utterly oblivious to the epic dangers around them, as well as painfully helpless in knowing what to do when those dangers land on their doorsteps.  Speaking with the newspaper reporter, and my experiences at Paulfest in Tampa, Florida, reminded me that the world has yet to be reminded of the value of survivalism.  There is still a gap, a disconnect, a psychological twitch of the masses, and it compels me to explain, yet again, what they are missing.

I had thought about using parables like the ancient Greek story of Cassandra, who was given the gift of foresight and prophecy, but also stricken with a curse which prevented anyone from believing her dire warnings.  Or the story of Noah, who was given an omen, a vision of catastrophe, and directed by God on how to save a remnant of life, while knowing that most of the people around him would perish.  And what about Galileo, who simply tried to point out the scientific operations of the universe in which we exist, only to be ostracized by his church and government?  In these modern times, however, many find it increasingly difficult to relate to mythology, bible lore, or even historical precedence.  Luckily, there is always cinema…

While considering this topic, as if by design, I stumbled upon the film ‘Take Shelter’, the story of a man who suffers from acute intuition.  His vivid dreams warn him of a nightmare event, but is he a prophet, or a schizophrenic with delusions of doom?

Human beings hold within them a natural mechanism, a moral dynamo that compels them to alert others to the dangers they see silhouette on the horizon.  Every survivalist today has at one time or another felt the overwhelming weight of responsibility that comes with knowing; not believing, but KNOWING the future.  The film 'Take Shelter' illustrates the internal and external dilemmas of the survivalist in a way that is striking, beautiful, and affirming.

Prophetic dreams and spoken messages from the heavens are not necessarily required to understand the dilemmas our nation faces in the new millennium.  It does not take a psychic to see the mathematical certainty of dollar devaluation and loss of world reserve status.  The degradation of our civil liberties in the name of state security.  The formation of unaccountable supranational bodies which are quickly encroaching upon our individual sovereignty.  In fact, a person would have to be mentally blind, deaf, and dumb to NOT grasp what is happening right under their noses.  Sadly, this is where a majority of the American populace lives.

Even at Paulfest, a convention and congregation of what I consider some of the most awake and socially aware people on the planet, I discovered that at least half of those in attendance had a minimal sense of urgency as far as a true national crisis was concerned, clinging to the assumption that they had yet more time to stab at top down solutions and political tap dancing that continually falls short of what is necessary to restore liberty.

It is difficult to retain one’s composure in the face of the astounding absurdity of normalcy bias.  The idea that today’s comforts will continue on tomorrow and forever is a powerful one.  To break such apathy requires steadfast resolve.  Sometimes, only startling and terrifying events are enough to rattle the mindless masses.  Sometimes, you just have to let the chips fall where they may, speak the truth to the best of your ability, and let the herd sort out the rest in their own good time, whatever there is left of it.  What we see as a forgone conclusion, what we passionately fight to expose, in their minds often translates into belligerence and a frightening subversion of their joyous naivety:

As we invade their perfect world with the dreadful facts of life, their subconscious reflex is to regard us as a tangible threat.  The first reaction is always to laugh.  Ridicule without substance is the primary defense of the ignorant.  But, what if you don’t go away?  What if your arguments are too precise?  What if there is too much clarity to your position?  What if you have a whole movement of people behind you?  What if you are a force to be reckoned with, and cannot be refuted or dissuaded?  What if logic dictates the admission that you are right, and they are wrong?

Then arises fury…

It is not uncommon for the truth tellers of an era to be labeled the enemies of society.  To be held as criminals, traitors, and terrorists.  In fact, the establishment has in the past two decades made every effort to paint survivalists as the boogeymen of our age; unstable and unpredictable wild-men hell bent on destruction in the name of some hallucinatory ideology.  Using generalizations, false associations, and outright lies, corrupt governments seek to fool the citizenry into viewing survivalists as a fringe element and a dark underbelly of their otherwise serene state sponsored existence.

In contrast, I would like to point out to the non-prepper populace the advantages of having some of us “loony” survivalists around.  Rarely in the mainstream are we ever presented with the utility of survival proponents, and how they actually serve the interests of the “greater good” to quote a phrase often used by drooling collectivists and statists who desperately try to defame the prepper subculture…

Advantage #1:  Survivalists Have Their Own Stuff – They Don’t Need Your Stuff

Survivalists have their own stuff, which means, they will likely not feel compelled to take your stuff, if, that is, you have any stuff worth having.  In the midst of a calamity, being surrounded by preppers is one of the best insurance policies a person could acquire.  Think about it; would you rather have me as a neighbor, with my guns, ammo, food supply, off-grid solar power and water, and anti-establishment angst, or, would you rather have some superficial sickly fake friendly suburban yuppie with a Mercedes, an overpriced boat, a $100,000-plus debt obligation, a repressed inferiority complex, a vicious department store-addicted trophy wife, three spoiled crusty children with a vocabulary of 80 words or less, and an empty pantry?  In a crisis, who is the real threat?  Come on!

Advantage #2:  Survivalists Keep To Themselves – Your Business Is Your Own

Have you ever lived in the metro areas of California, New York, or Illinois?  Ever notice how disgustingly nosy many people tend to become in the more socialist minded regions of America?  Neighborhood administrations that cite you for tall grass.  Permits on top of permits.  Sneers when you smoke a cigarette, even outdoors.  Environmental restrictions bordering on the insane.  City governments telling you what you are allowed to eat and drink and how much.  It’s so enraging it makes you want to wrench someone’s head off their neck and squeeze their skull like an oversized pimple.

Survivalists respect privacy.  Grow a garden on your front lawn.  Smoke your cigarettes (or whatever).  Drink your damned 2 liter mega-gulp.  Let your kids play with the water hose for hours, or open a lemonade stand.  Don’t worry; the authorities will never be told, because we don’t care.  We have far more important things to worry about.

Advantage #3:  Survivalists Are Handy

Ever have that one friend, or neighbor, or family member who just seems to have all the right answers when it comes to gardening, or solar power, or repairing that hunting rifle?  Who knows all the best camping and fishing spots?  Who always seems to be willing to go out of his way to help you set up a good emergency kit in case of that next hurricane, flood, tornado, earthquake, etc?  You may very well be working with a survivalist and not even know it.

Advantage #4:  Survivalists Insulate A Region

The more survivalists there are in a particular area, the more likely you are to get through a disaster, whether you have prepared for it or not.  A network of survival communities offers an enormous variety of skills, an alternative economy and barter system to tap into, safety from harm during a major implosion or socially unstable times, and the ingenuity required to rebuild after the disaster.

Let me put it this way:  who is more likely to return your environment to a livable state?  Groups of survivalists with the know-how and the desire because they actually LIVE in the region?  Or, a faceless government bureaucracy like FEMA with no meaningful ties to the community in which you live?

Advantage #5:  Survivalists Cook Up A Mean Barbeque

Show me a survivalist that doesn’t grill like an artist.  I defy you!

Advantage #6:  Survivalists Stand Their Ground When It Counts

If you ever need someone to back you up in a terrible situation, you can’t do much better than a survivalist.  They are used to adversity.  In fact, many of us deliberately put ourselves through strenuous training environments in order to learn where we will falter.  We make a point to uncover our own weaknesses and improve upon them.  Our current comfort obsessed society is almost devoid of this characteristic.  Finding a single person who will not let you down is a gift.  Finding an entire movement of such people is a miracle.  Don’t let it go to waste…

Advantage #7:  Survivalists Are Time Capsules For Liberty

Every culture needs watchmen.  Not government paid watchmen who seek out power, but citizen volunteers who shun power.  Without such watchmen, fundamental principles can be lost or destroyed, and the people of a nation are apt to forget where they came from, and what made them successful in the first place.  Though the masses have a tendency to be lured away from the legacy of freedom which once served them towards the twisted ideologies of tyrants and collectivists, in the long run they always return, seeking the almost forgotten abundances of liberty.  When the people go searching for freedom once again, the survivalists, the enduring watchmen, will be waiting to greet them.

Advantage #8:  Survivalists Are Not Afraid To Remind Society Of Its Mistakes

It is easy to be apathetic to the criminality of government.  It is easy to cocoon one’s self inside his own little life, within the minor dramas of his family and of his job.  It is easy to turn away from the big picture and hope that the monsters of the world sort themselves out, or overlook us entirely.  Unfortunately, this is not how human history has ever been resolved.  The worst problems never disappear on their own.  Survivalists understand this and are willing to take personal risks in order to uncover the nature of the beast for anyone willing to listen.  They understand that their best chance of survival is to preempt a disaster before it ever occurs.  The value of this to the longevity of our species cannot be calculated.  Without those who can overcome the fears created by conformity, mankind is lost.  Our very future depends upon the principles of survivalism, which teaches us to embrace our individuality, love the individualism within others, stand unyielding in the face of oppression, and fight to our dying breath to see that the best in all of us is one day fully realized.

To each his own.  All I know is Kwai Chang Caine had no posessions, kept to himself, didn't bother anyone, and still caught shit from people everywhere he went.  But, he had a means to defend himself and wasn't shy about apllying it when necessary.

Let me translate. You can be Chuck Norris meets Macguyver, but if the grocery stores are empty, and the electricity and gas are cut off, and nothing happens when you turn the faucet, you're gonna have a bad time.

Especially if there are groups of people who have guns and ammo, and a command structure, and they want to take what little you have.

What makes you think survivalists are mavericks? All the survivalists I know work together as a community. Each person bringing their own skillset to the table. I'd rather wait it out with plenty of food, warmth, guns, and people who know how to use them than be fodder for a group of idiots to take advantage of.

A survivalist is someone who does not expect much from others and has planned how to truly care for those he cherishes in light of his surrounding reality.

It's the "plague fantasy."  Very old.  The world becomes depopulated, leaving only the properly-prepared and/or right-thinking to rebuild civilization.

Noah's Ark, yanno, that sort of thing.

I liked the Night of the Comet version of the story, myself.  Miracle Mile was pretty good too, primarily because it showed how arbitrary the universe can seem.

I think you may be overestimating how many people would consider you an "A-1 100% survivalist" considering you are admitting that you've made few if any preparations for survival.  That's not very instinctual for a survivalist.

But you are correct, that survival preparation isn't a cookie-cutter, one size fit all endeavour. Can you get away withoug a gun, stored food, and precious metals?  Maybe.  No one knows, that might depend upon where you are and what kind of situation unfolds.  But clearly you are taking some risk without, in the minimum, food and water storage.

And I think you are over embellishing the lone wolf prepper here, as most preppers realize that community is really important for survival.  That said, no one is going to pull the weight for someone who didn't prepare at all -- unless they are getting something out of it.  So I hope your skills are quite useful.

Well, IF SHTF, your and the preppers hypotheses  will be tested.  Will it be Kumbaya and barn raisings Amish-style, or the Golden Horde?

'Course, as in real estate, it's all about location location location.  If you're in a tight-knit small town, your hypothesis might actually win the day.  But it's hard to see anything other than chaos in anything bigger than a minor 'burb as the cities go all NOLA post-Katrina, only this time with no way out.

We had a survivalist around here just a few days ago shoot a highway patrol officer in the head. Routine stop, just shot him in the head. Another officer on the stop shot the guy full of holes.

Don't know which flavor of prepper he was.

But he's a dead prepper now and he's not surviving shit at the moment.

Dude, you ever read the posts of wannabe Preppers here?

Fucking crazy assholes who think they inhabit a video game.

What kills me is assuming all your crazy as fuck neighbors will act like you all are Amish and come build a barn when times are tough.

More like they will rob your ass cause their jerky ran out last week and their bellies be grumbling.

@ Gully Foyle my neighbors have plowed our road, towed cars out of the ditch, shared last season's elk, took care of and watched our property/animals, helped with a broken generator, put on roofs together, shared a lot of great meals over beers,etc...I'm glad I don't live anywhere near you. haha

Gully, you are right, depending on what neighborhood one lives in.

AND it's important to

1) know your neighbors

2) plan, prep, and re-adjuust planS (emplhasis on MULTIPLE plans), and be ready for different and changing situations.

So when grumbling-bellied zombies come to my neighborhood, I may be here, I may be gone. But if I'm stuck temporarily here, I'll know which neighbors to lend a rifle to.

Also, I'll not make a stand for my stash of food - I can grow, fish and hunt along the way to another region with more like-minded people.

Gully, in 91 I did a lot of hitchhiking, crossed the country four times.

The people who were best to me lived in cabins in Colorado. They fed me when I was broke. They gave me drink and good smoke, pointed me to shelter, etc. They weren't crazy at all. And they were armed to the teeth. I had very long hair, etc--probably looked like a liberal to them.

Now, how they might have acted if we were in a national emergency/breakdown situation is anybody's guess. But they were a lot like hippies in several respects, just with a different (better, I'd say) mindset. And they definitely behaved like a community with respect for individualism--a respect for individualism that hippies just don't have (again, in my experience--everyone's experience might be different).

Ever been to Montezuma, CO, on top of the divide? Nice folks.

He fit the profile. Enforced isolation, alternative economy, living off the land, lots of guns. Jeep Wrangler. Maybe the media was making all that up, don't know. Personally, I think he fell off the deep end and his "alternative economy" probably started involving massive amounts of drugs, both manufacture and consumption.

Hard to say why he would shoot an officer in the head for a traffic violation, if you don't allow for drugs and onset paranoid schizophrenia.

Could be maybe he'd just had enough of The Man.

But he really shit his log in the prepper punch bowl, let me tell you. Wonder what they they are thinking about him up in the hills now.

I'm quite prepared to accept that as true. The is some weird shit going on at the bottom of the rabbit hole, and it will mess with you if you are not ready for it.

I think the trick is to "survive it" in a way that does not get oneself "killed". If you follow me.

Maybe not everyone is cut out for this? Probably. I sense a real undertow of "bat shit crazy" running through a lot of this discussion that has a lot more to do with some people being just crazy as a pet raccoon and a lot less worried about surviving any generations-long technological outage.

I kinda had the same thought. That's how you know someone is a diehard Waco Branch Davidian survivalist prepper doomer: They drive a Jeep Wrangler. WRANGLER!!

I drive a Jeep Wrangler, when I'm not driving my Dodge pickup or riding my Kawa Vulcan. But most of the Jeep Wranglers around my town are driven by girls. I guess all those 19 year old girl Wrangler drivers are crazed prepper terrorists.

What a nincompoop. No food, no real money, no guns, ammo or any other preparedness. Not even a rusty old YJ with a 2.5 liter and a 4 inch body lift. But he's a 100% survivalist ready for anything.  Sigh.

First Idiot, everyone with a gun ISN'T a "prepper", you've been watching to much fucking TV again!

Second, that cop isn't "surviving" shit at the moment either, so whats your fucking point???  Americans who want to live a self-sufficent and self-reliant life, are the ones who founded this fucking Country, I know, my family was in the colonies & the revolution, and everyone one of them kept a diary! Some of the best reading I've ever done in my life, reading those things! Loving Liberty and Freedom, are not extreme positions!

An X military vetern with 3 tours under his belt, just blew away a sherrif and the locksmith a month ago where I live, when they were trying to evict him from his townhouse! He had so much ammo and weapons, bullet proof vests etc, they burned the fucking complex down (4 units) instead of confront him with 200 SWAT!! So by your logic, veterns are bullshit lunitics too, right?????

You better get back to the yahoo board, before you get hurt over here with the adults on ZH!

We each have a natural right to choose how we will leave the world. The annals of history record the struggles of people to choose how they will both live and die.

I guess we really are entering another such epoch. Wonder what they will be saying about us, a century on?

I hope they record that we were hard working, hard fighting men and women who were not afraid to band with their neighbors to defend whatever remained of their small island of liberties.

What he is a prepper cuz he had a garden... or contributed to the Ron Paul Campaign...

truth is you don't know that he was a prepper or survivalist..

"Investigators searched Lacy's Corning home Tuesday night, finding at least six computers and several disk drives, but no other weapons."

"His father, Craig Lacy, said in a brief phone interview with ABC7 that his son was smart but troubled by mental illness, describing him as bipolar but not violent. While in Bend, Ore., Lacy played in a band dubbed The Jiggawatts, putting out an alternative rock CD."

"the software engineer's Spartan personal website offered little information, other than a hint at political leanings: "I also contribute significant time to the Ron Paul campaign ... and the liberty movement."

His gray trailer on Stagecoach Road, with a tended garden of sunflowers and vegetables surrounded by a red fence, was empty Wednesday when a reporter visited.

Humans should know better.  They are totally brainwashed 24x7 by TV and Hollywood with ball games and total shit.  Total manipulation and TV is the best method of control ever invented.

I do everything I can to avoid going to airports.  I don't want to be groped or irradiated by Choom Oberfurher's Blue Shirt TSA AfrikaKorps.

What is even worse is seeing young kids from the military in uniform coming back or going to deployment in the airport.  For what?  What purpose?  These poor kids and their parents are all brainwashed by TV/Hollywood and they are enabling it all by watching the lies, brainwashing and shit.   The poor kids look like they are in a haze. Like poor sheep heading to slaughter.  It is really heartbreaking.

It's as insidious and as evil as The Matrix just a bit more subtle.

this kind of puerile and overblown ideological cant just sticks in my craw. Having lived totally off grid for the past couple of years, i can assure you that BS would be highly unwelcome and likewise be regarded with deep suspicion as some sort of provacateur. I admit to wishing for a "reset", as my moniker reveals, not so I can be a Mad Max hero, but because I believe society, civilization, and the planet desperately need it.

This part really caught my attention.

Although that may sound disappointing, I see it as good news, as those are the new people who are still in process of unwinding all of the lies of the status quo. If they weren't there, you'd instead have been within an echo chamber, where opportunity to "spread the news far and wide" wouldn't have existed.

During the last few years my goal in Costa Rica has been to make my home safe and my family as self-sufficient as possible. Our lifestyle choices make those everyday natural disasters a lot easier to cope with (like the 7.6 earthquake the other day - no problem). Just as important, it gives us a real sense of empowerment, just like similar folks in Montana, etc. who have opted out of the con game. Unfortunately, most citizens of the good old USSA have their heads so far up their asses that they hardly recognize just how co-dependent and pathetic they have become.

Well, in a way living on section 8 and food stamps is a form of "survivalism."

The way I see it, we are in a death spiral.  More and more dependents, less and less people working.  Not to mention less and less people doing their patriotic job as "consumers" within the American Empire.  I would count many survivalists along the latter.

If you ever spend any time in the ghetto, you will realize that there are vast, informal, black markets there.  This is also a form of survivalism.

So basically, as the system continues to crash everybody still living becomes a survivor, in their own way.  There's no right or wrong answer.

And TPTB are impotent in the end.  If they nuke or imprison the world, they destroy the consumers and they can watch their corporations and governments become worthless.  If they don't nuke or imprison the world, the system just slowly crashes and everybody learns to withdraw.

'Cos the head honcho wanted the church to be the regulator of people's enligthenment. It was his power base.

A battle "they" lost, the clerical oligarchs. Thanks to Gailleo going public, and Gutenberg's press disseminating it around Europe.

A bit like Assange and the Internet today. The Honchos don't like that disseminator!

I love your use of the world "civilized"; its speaks volumes for the way Honchos manipulate the sheeple throughout the ages. Who just love to suck their divine teats like the bleaters they be, taking it at face value.

Like we are brainwashed to believe today by MSM : the financialista crisis being the work of "socialists" who want to destroy freedom and the market!

A wolf's breed now in sheep's clothing. We need the Galileos of today to bring down the dogma of Oligarchs.

But not by going at playing "Herman the loony hermit" in a Montana hideout...more in slap bang, front facing confrontation, eye to eye gazing of the ferocious Tiger beast; taking down its DC/WS power play  through derision and mockery, based on solid analysis to feed people's awareness and resistance building.

Like here on ZH by  the TDs, or from the MAx Keiser pull down of tinsel town curtain. We need much more of this front page alt-media resistance to hype and dopium. The Internet is the Gutenbergian instrument of our age.

I will add this. Reading the posts I don't get any real sense of urgency from most of the contributors.  I read a subtle resignation to whatever fate happens their way as opposed to any commitment to actually choosinng to live and resist any kind of tyranny. When similar subjects come up I've gotten the same feeling of a herd ennui mentality.

I can say this without any equivication. Native Montanans resent the hell out of all the monied people pushing up the land prices so that each successive generation of natives can't afford to live in their own birth state.  You get up to places like Noxon ( way  Nw mT.) and it's "cave canem" Latin for beware of the dog. They are really hostile to anyone who can't prove a long Montana lineage. And a favorite Montana creed is the three S's .... shoot, shovel, and shut up.  And Butte,Mt. Look up it's history. People in New Jersy,NY, and Chicago love to talk about how tough certain parts are, and I have no doubt they are but brother Butte is probably the toughest town in this  country.

I'm just serious about living. Like all of us my time will come but for now I prefer to live and not be over taken by sloth or the aforementioned thundering herd of ennui. Teddy Roosevelt's work, The Streuous Life is a good read. TR was an exceptional man.

Survivalists are useful, but they have no special intuition.

They are like a broken clock.  Usually they are wrong far more often than they are correct.  US culture has extended from 1776 through today with survivalists (or various versions of them - believers in apocalypse, communes against the problems of society, etc.) being wrong almost all the time.

Their time may be at hand, but more likely it may just seem like it is, events may make it feel like they are correct, and then things will resolve themselves as they typically do.

No, they have no insight, just the same general fear we all do, but in them it is heightened to greater pitch which leads them to take greater action.  I have the same fears, but I channel my efforts into activities I hope will be productive for not only myself, but others like me.

I respect their actions, they are logical based on their mindset.  But I don't see them as anybody special or different just because they do things a little differently.

I would have done the same many decades ago, EXCEPT, I believed, and still believe, that when the established systems finally destroy themselves, then there will be nuclear winter and radioactive rain, for many, many years. One would need at least a multi-billion dollar bunker to have a chance to survive that!

I have foolishly tried to participate in politics to prevent that from happening.  Unfortunately, I have belatedly realized that was a total waste of time (which was what I sort of expected at the beginning too.)

When a global system of electronic fiat money fraud, backed by atomic bombs, finally collapses into chaos, no gold or guns, or whatever, is going to help much. Indeed, since less than 1% of people are prepared, when the insanities finally break lose, then the 99% will become even more insane. Being prepared will make one a target for those who were not prepared. Ah, the paradoxical nature of runaway social insanity!

I WISH I did not believe that things are that bad. However, I believe that the people who are really controlling world events have deliberately done things like the events of 9/11/2001, and caused the financial collapses, and they are deliberately driving things to get way, way worse, since those are their social habits, as were developed through history. They are INSANE! They are only who they are because they were the best at being dishonest, and backing that up with violence, in the PAST. They have no other qualifications to be controlling the world now.  They did not need any, but that they were the best at deceits and destruction. Hence, I believe that the world is controlled by insane people, and that they are going to drive us all mad, into an insane self-destructive future, which will become so extremely bad that there is NO practical way to actually be "prepared" for that!

The problem with Montana is that the potential fallout from a nuclear exchange would at best be medium (between 3000R and 6000R), and that being only areas west of the continental divide. East of the divide potentially would receive high and very high levels of fallout. Additionally, north-central Montana contains many strategic targets in the form of launch sites.

I was thinking about the great lakes area.  Lots of water, plenty of fish, game and firewood.  Have you heard of the recent fish die-off in lake Erie?http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2012/09/04/officials-look-for-cause-of-dead...

It's funny.  All the recent bird and fish die-offs.  The fish?  It's ALWAYS lack of oxygen, or thermal stress.  It's NEVER some corporation dumping toxic waste in the lake late at night.  I suspect foul play.  I'm not BIG on conspiracy theories, but too many fish die-offs going unexplained.  Gulf of Mexico? Corexit?

It's a shame to see yet another pristine planetary resource (Great Lakes) become polluted and uninhabitable.

In the Navy we always flew with a survival kit and we prepared for emergencies that might never happen but if you were not prepared you were dead.

I don't see the difference other than to what degree you are prepared.  We only carried enough food for a couple of days but we were trained to live off the land.

How "Crazy Survivalists" Make The World A Better Place

Of all the horse shit posts I have seen at ZH this one is the blue ribbon winner.

It took all 7 billion of us to get in this mess and it is going to take all 7 billion of us to get out of it, we live or die together as free men and women, if a few pussies want to run and hide in the hills of Montana and lead paranoid lives filled with negativity and bring onto themselves self fulfilling prophetic delusions of persecution then so be it. But the so called prepper lifestyle is destructive and adds nothing to any life, they are a bunch of dumb asses being manipulated to buy long shelf life inedible shit in a can by marketing elites making a TON of money off them. Being hostile and gullible at the same time does have a certain humor value though.

Only cowards run from real trouble and hide under rocks in the mountains. If they had any guts at all they would take their ammo and get into their trucks en masse and go to DC and demand the end to all that they think is going to kill the civilization. Till then I hope they enjoy their acorn pancakes and wiping their asses with their hands. And I do hope that when someone else has the guts to speak truth to power and make the needed changes they understand what and how much they owe to the people that stood up to fascism and gross psychotic materialism.

I gave you one of those green arrows JamA. Because I am working to make real change happen, you would be amazed at the power that 7 billion people have when they get together and agree about injustice and what constitutes freedom and fairness. You know it does not take guns and ammo and a 30 year supply of dried apples to survive, or be free, all it takes is for the sleeping to wake. And by the way, the preppers? Are they free? They are as manipulated as the so called majority. And in many ways they are more constricted in their behaviors than I am.

If you have a cave filled with arms and dried irradiated foods 100 miles from the nearest town are you free? If that is your idea of free then have right at it. I would rather we all got together and made change. And I am not trying to put survivalists down about their convictions that there are major problems, kudos to them for having identified the problems, I am just disappointed that their idea of a solutions is to run and hide out rather than stop the disease and destruction. In that I am adamant, they are pussies and idiots. They can't "survive" in a destroyed world, their only hope of survival is to help wake the sheep and stop the elite devils now.

I am going to laugh my ass off at them in the afterlife when they survive the first blasts of the global thermonuclear war they did nothing to stop only to find out that the air they breath is poison, or the sun refuses to penetrate the clouds for hundreds of years leaving their seeds useless.  They can try to create a perfect independent survivalist backwater only to find out that people are the problem and they have to be the solution, they will just take their hate filled bullshit with them into the hills, and the best part is always when the total irony of that eludes them entirely.  Survived?  For what?  They will have proved to be part of the problem and not part of the solution.

Go for it.  I wish you the best in your quest.

We really have an amazingly good life at this time by any historical standard.  And I am enjoying it to the fullest in these recent years.  I know quite well it cannot go on too much longer because of the obvious gathering storm clouds.  In my view, the change that is necessary will not come without some externally forced crisis.  And change is inevitable.  The only questions are when will the crisis start, how long will it last, how bad will it get and will we choose the right path out of the valley?

So I prepare accordingly, while still enjoying our last moments of relative peace, prosperity, freedom and material bounty with my friends, neighbors, and family.

In a roundabout way, the preppers "hate your freedom". One need not be particularly perceptive to see this Brandon Smith fellow fancies himself a leader, and would be the first one to lay down the rules for you and me to be "free".  Apparently he is none too happy with the decisions made by the majority in this democracy, because it differs from what he thinks is necessary.  It seems "freedom" doesn't mean majority rule, but rule according to him.  Personally, I never vote the Paranoid Delusional ticket, but that's just me.

"I refuse to vote because my candidate doesn't automatically win."

Survivalists are a product of 'american' middle class being tossed out of the bowl. They less and less enjoy the security provided by the main 'American' society and they keep wishing a new order putting them, survivalists, on top will come true.

When discussing with survivalists, it usually only takes a few minutes to understand that after the downfall, they project themselves as the new king class of the world...

Unfortunately for them, this position is held solidly by the regular 'american' middle class. And preppers have no idea on how to oust them from their position. Only a hap in destiny, only unavoidable determinism is what in the minds of survivalists shall put them on the throne.

Funniest part: as 'Americans' push for a new wave of colonization to happen, those preppers will be first on the deck to act as a parasite on locals.
One can pity indigenous people as they will have to deal with the preppers and their 'american' entitlement mindset.

Maybe in accumulation as they might have been 7 billions 'Americans' since 1776,July, 4th (doubtful though)

Nope, all it takes to bring humanity in this current situation is 'Americans'.

The current world is an 'American' world and this is a US world order.

What could other people be blamed with? Not prevailing over 'Americans' so there is nothing to blame them with as 'Americans' have been crushing truth, freedom, and justice and so other values in their rise.

It is the way it is, the 'American' way.

The very idea of being a survivalist strikes me as strange.  I do believe this country is one giant shit show, but I don't know if I want to be the last one standing, pointing my semi automatic weapons at other people's heads.  I believe I'd rather stay at home, and when the time comes, hopefully I'll have enough time to purchase 10 cases of Bud, 10 of the High Life, and a couple cartons of Marlboro Reds.  When the zombies/ghouls keep coming, I figure my time is up, and I'll do what I have to do.

that is the best part of zH to me

unlike brandon, i am anonymous here, but i share myself, or try to

everyone i have ever met is either in need of healing or able to heal, or both

we are generally in need of healing physically, emotionally, and spiritually and when we recognize that in ourselves and others i think we can get along and become who we are meant to BE, one teardrop at a time, sometimes two

i am a survivor;  and maybe a wee bit more;  and maybe not

Slewie, I enjoy and look forward to your posts. but, to think you are anonymous is beyond ridiculous. The .Gov's have all means of identifying you even if you use a anon VPN source.

.Gov's have infiltrated anon private paid VPN's as well and one slip up is all that matters to cause you to be tracked. Most people visit some favorite sites every day, several times a day. They (.Gov) know who you are. Super puters are on the job linking your signins to your sites you visit. Do not be fooled.

You may be anonymous to me, which doesn't mean two beans, but you are not anon to .Gov an their agencies of tracking. No one is.

Yeah. He's crazy. On March 11, 2011 we had one of the biggest earthquakes in history followed by a tsunami and a nuclear accident. For three months or so, many foodstuffs and bottled water coudn't be bought. Then the news that the water supply had been contaimnated with radiation. People were freaking out. I went to the store one morning about March 15, 2011 and was dumbfounded to see people fighting in the parking lots and running in the stores clearing the shelves here in Tokyo.... I watched in amazement... My wife clung to my arms in fear having never seen anything like it.... I chuckled and shook my head. Thank god we had six months of food and water and supplies stored up....

Being prepared isn't crazy, it's common sense.

Some sheep manipulated by media panicked in a parking lot? That's all you have? That is supposed to justify the sicko prepper lifestyle? So your telling us that the people post tsunami "survived" because they took off into the hills with automatic weapons and defied the government? WTF are you posting? That a paranoid life of exclusion and hate filled survival is justified? Why don't you tell us how many Japanese died of starvation? Sure many were killed in the quake and waves but not one has died of starvation or even radiation outside Fukishima itself.

I will add though that one did die here on the coast near my place, the dumb fucker went to the mouth of the Klamath River in northern California to take photos of the tidal waves. Stood right on the beach with a camera. I am sure he thought he was going to be the toast of the Twittersphere. Stupid people do stupid things when disaster comes to us, but the only way to "survive" or LIVE is free and together. Go ahead and prepare to live under a rock by yourself, and thank you in advance for doing NOTHING to stop a preventable endless nightmare of human making.

Boilthe Rich? Well, that explains a lot about your ignorance.

You wrote, "So your telling us that the people post tsunami "survived" because they took off into the hills with automatic weapons and defied the government?" (sic). For one, where did I write that? For two, it's not "your," you ill-educated dolt; it's "you're."

Are you telling me that you can't read simple English? (I already know you can't write it). What part of, "Being prepared isn't crazy, it's common sense," do you find so difficult to grasp?

In a country that has had a recorded 1,500 earthquakes in one year, and several killer quakes in the last twenty, only an idiot wouldn't have a few weeks food and water ready... I reckon you'd be one of those.

PS: Boil, don't tell anyone but tsunami are caused by earthquakes... And many people up north had no food and no one had any water for a long time and charity shipments and private volunteers took food up to them. I did. Need proof? Here you go. Here's a documentary I made with a friend about one effort: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8B6cCqtt0o  (You'll see my name at the ending credits).

I saw that movie. There are survivalist and prepper shows on TV. Its popular now. Still haven't seen a state advertising for people that want to secede from the US yet. Maybe soon. There are definitely enough people that would make it plausable. I guess if the EU breaks up then it might be possible here too.

Government no larger than 100,000 people might be considered safe but certainly no more than that. The larger the group the more dangerous and deadly the outcome. That is the way people are and have always been. Corporations are most disgusting because they cannot and do not have morality as a component of conducting business. That is why they will reign terror and all hell on earth if treated like individuals.

Maybe I should post on Huffington Post. I have a cat story.
