Military Rolls Tanks Onto St. Louis Streets...But Why?
I have to say that this event, which is being labeled a "training exercise", makes very little sense to me. U.S. Army troops all the way from Maryland running open exercises in armored personnel carriers on the busy streets of St. Louis? I know Maryland is a small state, but is there really not enough room at Ft. Detrick to accommodate a tank column and some troops? Are there not entire fake neighborhood and town complexes built with taxpayer dollars on military bases across the country meant to facilitate a realistic urban environment for troops to train in? And why travel hundreds of miles to Missouri? At the very least, this is a massive waste of funds.
On the other hand, such an action on the part of the Department of Defense makes perfect sense if the goal is to acclimate citizens to the idea of seeing tanks and armed military acting in a policing capacity. Just check out the two random idiots the local news affiliate picked to interview in St. Louis on the subject. Both state that they think the exercise is a "great idea", because having the military on the streets would help to "reduce crime":
I suspect that the news affiliate did not go out of its way to get any counter-opinions, even though they admitted to being contacted by those voicing concerns over martial law.
Even so, it's sad and simultaneously terrifying that there are plenty of mindless dupes out there who do not understand the dangers of the Army crossing the Rubicon and acting in a civil law enforcement capacity, never mind that they are completely ignorant of the fact that it violates the Posse Comitatus Act. One of the interviewees even points out that in some countries they don't use police at all; only military. This is true. We call those countries "tyrannies"...
Add to the mix the reality that the DOD refuses to respond to any further inquiries by the press concerning details of the training, and you get yet another suspicious instance of behavior on the part of the establishment that seems preparatory for domestic action. I believe that the high frequency at which these activity reports have been coming in over the past year is certainly cause for alarm...

Sounds like they are preparing for the next big financial collapse which will shock the world and cause riots in the streets. Or preparing for riots in big cities from high inflation that will come once the next round of global cordinated central bank QE. Either way we have a huge financial bubble that is going to pop. It may take a while because of constant intervention to attempt to kick the can down the road. However that road is getting shorter and shorter and the huge cliff at the end of it is very near. The political elite would much rather have huge deflation than hyper inflation because then the elite can come in and buy up cheap assets again transfering the wealth to the elite. Hyperinflation is bad for everyone, deflation is great for the rich who can buy up assets that are on sale.
This is the kind of crazy BS that keeps ZH on the fringe. Ill appoligize if Im wrong but you conspiratorialist will simply say "see its coming" untill we all die of old age.

So, on the local news the other night comes an interview of a man who had two guys from the EPA (with guns) plus a local cop show up at his door. All because he had sent an email asking how to contact the former head of the EPA so he could continue his correspondence with him. They shoved the email at him and ask him to explain himself. When his wife came home they jumped up and left.
This happened within three weeks of a DHS "processing Center" being opened up in the next town, a retirement town no less.
Things have gotten very wrong in my country.

Please stop sending your kids to war. There must be another way for young men and women to come of age. Patriotism is a farce. And shooting brown people in other countries to make money for college is unacceptable. This year keep your kids at home . Teach them what gardening is and how to grow enough to last a year. They hold the exercise in an unfamiliar environmet deliberately, to maximze the element of spontaneity and consequent training value of the exercise. You don't learn as much in a familiar map, especially not where enemy positions are known in advance.
It would be interesting to see how local citizenry will be affected. Is this going to involve checkpoints and entering buildings, e.g., people's homes? I would bet that local contact is minimal, to avoid confrtonation and ripple effects (e.g., "castle doctrine").
Hollywood is doing a fine job of muddying the distinction between military and police, and departments are only too willing to go along in their pursuit of groovy military-style uniforms and toys. We should not be surprised to see announcements in the near future of "integration" and "shared services," ostensibly to cut costs and help local under-funded / under-resource departments.

Don't know if it has anything to do with the military exercises, probably not, but St. Louis has been a bit of a hotbed of protests against Obama's HHS attack on religious freedom. It mandates that all employers must not only pay for health care for themselves and their employees, but also mandates coverage for things that are considered gravely sinful by Catholics and some other religions. It mandates free coverage for things like sterilizations, drugs that can act as abortifacients and for artificial contraception. I know a lot of people on here disagree, perhaps very vehemently, with the Church on some or all of those issues, but hopefully all will agree that forcing Catholics, and some other denominations as well, to pay for things that their religion considers sinful is a violation of the very first amendment to the Constition, the very first right enunciated in the Bill of Rights:

Were they forced to eat foods they considered haraam , or to do other things they considered gravely immoral?
If so, any wrongs against them should be addressed. Accepting that and saying that as long as one groups' rights are violated then we have carte blanche to violate everyone's constitutional rights doesn't sound like a very good idea to me.

"mandated health coverage" that covers these things is none of Catholics business - it's the individual who chooses what procedures they need, and not Catholics who choose for them. the same with pharmacists whose beliefs conflict with filling prescriptions for others - if you as an individual do not want to perform the duties, do not train for the profession, simple. if you feel strongly about the insurance coverage of others, opt out, quit your jobs, whatever. it's YOUR choice, make it for yourself based on your beliefs - you don't get to make decisions for others based on YOUR beliefs, alright?

National Guard and Reserve units have run exercises in the US for decades.
I'll tell you what this is - for a decade this has happened in the desert as our troops have trained fighting pueblo's and desert terrain. The focus is moving to China and Russia and our troops are on manuvers to do what we have for decades - allow units to train among the populace in areas that reflect the battlefield of tomorrow.
More than likely they are National Guard on two week orders and moved to a base somewhere else to supplement a unit that is down in force.
Or, they are on two week orders they moved in and performed this because the Pentgaon is getting our national guard and reserve's to acclimate to a non-desert environment, but an urban environment that is not mountainous. So, they are on orders on their weekend to perform a drill in an area.

The Bad Orders already have been given. They are driving armored vehicles around in St. Louis. The staged attack drills in Tampa. They gave shoot to kill orders in Chicago. They shot innocent civilians with rubber bullets in California. They have followed orders to kill innocents. I'm not real clear on who you're mad at or exactly why. I'm not trying to be a smart aleck, but there are quite a few different people who have expressed a variety of opinions.
Are you of the opinion that these types of urban training have fairly routine, and are innocuous and everyone is freaking out over nothing? or something else?
