More Than 30 Blocks Of Grey & Decay

It happened again yesterday morning. There was an accident on the Schuykill Expressway so I had the pleasure of navigating through the 30 Blocks of Squalor, again. After having made at least 25 posts about the 30 Blocks of Squalor over the years, I keep thinking I’ve run out of things to say. But it seems to be a never ending treasure trove of insights about our society and the people who live in this country. It was a particularly grey day in Philadelphia with a dreary overcast and intermittent rain. It seemed fitting for this trek through the slowly decaying landscape leading to my workplace in West Philly. I’ve talked previously about the stretch of highway leading to the 30 Blocks of Squalor. It’s called West Chester Pike (Route 3) and it cuts through Delaware County where I grew up. It cuts through Havertown, Haverford, Drexel Hill, and Upper Darby and eventually spits you out at 69th Street, where I’ve previously detailed the flash mob of savages rampaging through the Sears stealing everything in sight (all caught on surveillance cameras to be shown on a future reality TV show). In a shocking turn of events, Sears decided to later close this retail establishment.

The 30 minute excursion along West Chester Pike and then the 30 Blocks of Squalor (Chestnut St from 69th St to 39th St) is like traveling through Dante’s nine circles of hell. Every mile leads you deeper and deeper into the abyss. My observations along this route are of a country in a slow methodical steady decline that has been underway for decades and shows no signs of abating.

The neighborhoods and towns along West Chester Pike were occupied by the rising middle class during the 1950?s, 60?s and 70?s. These towns were where blue collar middle class families built a life and raised their families. The fathers worked in factories, refineries, schools, power plants and thousands of other productive enterprises. Americans made stuff back then. Most wives stayed home and raised the three or four children in the small brick row homes or small detached singles that dotted the landscape. These neighborhoods were entirely white and most were church going. Most of the adults had not graduated college, but they were still able to move up the economic ladder through hard work, saving, and living within their means. Their children were guaranteed an even better life if they studied hard, went to college, and got an office job as an accountant, engineer, marketing executive, or in some other promising profession.

This progression began to transform into regression in the 1980s and the slow steady descent has picked up speed. There is now a grey pallor that seems to engulf this once thriving corridor. The houses that were built in the 1950s and 1960s and kept up by middle class families that took pride in their neighborhoods have been deteriorating for years. The homes are in disrepair. The bricks have grown dingy from years of pollution buildup and lack of power washing. Porches and awnings are sagging. The woodwork hasn’t seen a paint brush since the 1970s. Trash is strewn in the streets. Gardens are no longer tended to. Lawns are overgrown with weeds. The inhabitants of these neighborhoods either don’t care or don’t have the financial wherewithal to maintain their homes. On the current trajectory, these once proud neighborhoods will eventually resemble the 30 Blocks of Squalor.

I believe a country and a community will have a lot of what it values most. Our country has a lot of debt, a lot of vehicles, a lot of bombs, a lot of psychotic criminals running our economic and political systems and a lot of willfully ignorant drones – disguised as citizens. As I drove along West Chester Pike I tried to observe what it is we value today. This route is inundated with automobile repair shops, gas stations and auto dealerships. We cannot live without our cars. I can say without a doubt that I saw not one manufacturing facility along this entire route, but if you want your Japanese car fixed, detailed, or waxed, you’ve hit the jackpot.

We value our cars, purchased with debt or leased, but the roads are crumbling, filled with potholes, traffic lights aren’t timed, and the small towns are too bankrupt to do anything about it. The second most important thing to the zombies that inhabit this wasteland is mass quantities of food. You’ve got donut shops, fast food joints, pizza places, Chinese restaurants, Irish pubs every two blocks, and coffee houses on a mind numbing scale. It is easy to see why we’re the most obese people on earth. There are no farmers markets, produce stands, or even grocery stores. But there are at least six beer distributors. And of course there is one L.A. Fitness Center for the ten people out of ten thousand who want to keep in shape. I expect to see a Space Available sign in front of this place in the not too distant future.

Besides the general decay of the commercial properties, you can’t miss the fact that every block has at least one vacant commercial property. There are far more For Sale, Space Available, For Rent, and Leasing signs dotting the barren wasteland than there are wedding rings on fingers in West Philly. The vacant buildings are antiquated relics from the 1960s. It’s as if time stopped at the end of the 1970s and no one has invested a dime in this stretch of highway in 30 years. It’s like “The Land that Time Forgot”.

The only new buildings along this stretch of highway further emphasize what is seemingly important to our society. There are numerous architecturally grand bank branches dominating this highway. There is a beautiful new building housing the Social Security Administration for this area. This is where the obese, depressed and unemployable flock to sign up for the SSDI gravy train. And lastly there are a few medical facilities that are top notch. It seems that banks, government and medicine are doing just fine. But what do they produce?

I think this is a reflection of why this area has deteriorated over time. Industries that made things left this area and left this country. Small businesses were overwhelmed by mega-corporations who cared only about next quarter earnings. They met these earnings targets, set by Wall Street, by shipping the good paying blue collar jobs that supported these communities overseas. The middle class families living here saw their wages stagnate or decline. Wives were forced into the workforce to just keep their households afloat financially. The family unit suffered, with children raised by strangers or left to fend for themselves.

This is where the Wall Street maggots stepped in and sold these middle class families on the illusion of faux wealth built on a pyramid of credit card debt, auto loans, and mortgage debt. Who got wealthy? Not the families living in these fading neighborhoods. The bankers got rich and continue to flaunt their wealth by paying themselves obscene levels of compensation, buying off politicians, gutting our economy and opening fancy new outlets. An economy built upon manufacturing, production, and value added work results in rising wages and a thriving community. An economy built upon debt attracts consumer consumption outlets that add no value and result in declining wages, government dependency and a dying community.

These once thriving communities have rapidly aged. As the jobs and wages dried up, these communities have become dependent on the government to provide. Social Security payments are now a primary income source for many. The government controlled healthcare industry is thriving as Medicare and Medicaid pay for an increasing proportion of the care in these neighborhoods. After decades of pretending that debt could replace wages and savings, these communities are collapsing due to lack of income, decent paying jobs, capital investment, and common sense. West Chester Pike is well on its way to becoming a future 30 Blocks of Squalor.

Once you pass through the 69th Street death camp which resembles a scene from Night of the Living Dead, you spill out onto the 30 Blocks of Squalor.

This is where the circle of hell began. The rotting carcasses that pass for homes on this stretch of squalor were once occupied by the white families that moved to Delaware County along West Chester Pike in the 1950s and 1960s. It is now 90% black and 10% Hispanic. The real unemployment rate exceeds 50%, murder is the number one industry, with drugs a close second.

As you drive down the 30 Blocks of Squalor you meet the ghost of Squalor future for West Chester Pike. The population along this corridor is ignorant, dependent, and represents the dregs of our society. There is virtually no legal commerce along the squalor. The Asians, Koreans, and whites that attempted to open stores have all been shot down in cold blood. The once proud homes are in shambles. Bags of garbage dot the landscape. Most of the people who live here are parasites on society. Personal responsibility, work ethic, education and marriage are unknown concepts in this community. Even though more than 50% of the students in West Philly drop out of high school and the SAT scores of West Philly High students are lower than whale shit, the bankrupt school district spent $70 million to build a new high school/prison to babysit derelicts and future prison inmates. The windows do not have steel bars yet, as the architect was smart to put all windows at least eight feet above street level.

The Chestnut Plaza truly represents what is important to this community. This Squalor Center, as opposed to Power Center, includes a video porn store, cash checking/payday loan outlet, smoke shop, donut shop, Laundromat, and liquor store. No need for a wedding ring store or resume writing service. Evidently this community values gorging themselves on fast food, getting high, getting drunk, jerking off to porno, and then having their sheets washed. They wouldn’t want to invest a few hundred dollars of their welfare payments on a washer and dryer, when they can spend it on the Direct TV NBA package. They utilize their 8th grade level education to get payday loans from the check cashing store at 40% interest.

Our entire society is in a downward social and economic spiral. We are just at different levels of decay (Dante’s circles of hell). At the current pace it won’t be long before I’m writing about the 50 States of Squalor. It is virtually impossible to reverse a decline that has been underway for the last three decades. We sold our souls to Wall Street and chose a debt financed illusion of wealth over productive savings and investment which would have led to real wealth. Our choices are reflected in the continued deterioration and decay along West Chester Pike and the squalor that is West Philly. Grey and decay will carry the day.

The words on the Statue of Liberty should be revised from,  ”Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”, to “we have become your indebted, materialistic, obese, aging masses yearning for the government to protect and sustain us as our once great nation decays.”

As a nation, we have chosen this path. We made the choices and now we will suffer the consequences.

Not only does this country have psychotic individuals, but psychotic leaders too, who lie about inflation, lie about unemployment, lie about Wall St. fraud, and lie about themselves.

Benocide, Geithner, Obummer, Holder, Shapiro.... all have proven to be useless, dishonest, inept individuals.

Thanks for the article Jim Quinn. I feel I know you, having grown up in that Delaware County neighborhood some 35 years ago and going to that Catholic High School on Garrett and Lansdown ave.

The only thing that can fix our problem is when the USA defaults on the national debt and the rest of the world stops trading with us, period.

I look forward to the day.

Feeding wild dolphins is illegal and can be harmful to their health.

Dolphins are born to be hunters, not beggars. When people feed them, it can teach the dolphin bad habits. Mother dolphins that beg may fail to teach their young how to forage for food.

Sometimes, begging for food becomes a way of survival for dolphins, and they become dependent on human handouts. Begging dolphins often are not healthy.

Trayvonistas? Do you mean the white Republicans who wrote and signed the Stand Your Ground law? They say that Zimmerman broke the law and that it was Trayvon Martin who had a right to defend himself against Zimmerman's suspicious and threatening actions.

Author of "stand your ground" law: George Zimmerman should probably be arrested for killing Trayvon Martin

The authors of Florida's controversial "stand your ground" self-defense law say George Zimmerman should probably be arrested for shooting Trayvon Martin, reports the Miami Herald.

"He has no protection under my law," former Sen. Durell Peaden told the newspaper.

"The guy lost his defense right then," Peaden told the Miami Herald. "When he said 'I'm following him,' he lost his defense."

Op-Ed: Why I Wrote 'Stand Your Ground' Law

BAXLEY: Well, simply because if you carefully read the statute, which most of the critics have not, and read the legislative analysis, there's nothing in this statute that authorizes you to pursue or confront other people. If anything, this law would have protected the victim in this case; it could have.

CONAN: It could have.

In Arlington, Jeb Bush says ‘stand your ground’ invalid in Trayvon Martin case

“This law does not apply to this particular circumstance,” Bush said after an education panel discussion at the University of Texas at Arlington. “Stand your ground means stand your ground. It doesn’t mean chase after somebody who’s turned their back.”

Zimmerman is a minority Democrat activist do-gooder with delusions of grandeur. Why do you hate white Republicans? Why do you hate rule of law?

You're one ignorant fool.

1) Zimmerman didn't "chase" Martin. He followed him for awhile, then stopped, and was returning to his SUV. Martin returned to Zimmerman, asked him, "You got a problem,' Zimmerman replied, "No," and Martin said, "Well, you do now!" and took the first swing at Zimmerman. He then proceeded to beat him mercilessly. It probably had something to do with the drugs found in Martin's body during the autopsy.

2) While it may be true that the Stand Your Ground Law is not applicable to this case, it does not rule out a standard self-defense defense:

From Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz in the NY Post  :

Now there is much more extensive medical evidence that would tend to support Zimmerman’s version of events. This version, if true, would establish self-defense even if Zimmerman had improperly followed, harassed and provoked Martin.

A defendant, under Florida law, loses his “stand your ground” defense if he provoked the encounter — but he retains traditional self-defense if he reasonably believed his life was in danger and his only recourse was to employ deadly force.

Thus, if Zimmerman verbally provoked Martin, but Martin then got on top of Zimmerman and banged his head into the ground, broke his nose, bloodied his eyes and persisted in attacking Zimmerman — and if Zimmerman couldn’t protect himself from further attack except by shooting Martin — he would have the right to do that. (The prosecution has already admitted that it has no evidence that Zimmerman started the actual fight.)

Concerning the special prosecutor, Corey (leader of the official lynch mob):

A medical report by George Zimmerman’s doctor has disclosed that Zimmerman had a fractured nose, two black eyes, two lacerations on the back of his head and a back injury on the day after the fatal shooting. If this evidence turns out to be valid, the prosecutor will have no choice but to drop the second-degree murder charge against Zimmerman — if she wants to act ethically, lawfully and professionally.

There is, of course, no assurance that the special prosecutor handling the case, State Attorney Angela Corey, will do the right thing. Because until now, her actions have been anything but ethical, lawful and professional.

She was aware when she submitted an affidavit that it did not contain the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. She deliberately withheld evidence that supported Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense. The New York Times has reported that the police had “a full face picture” of Zimmerman, before paramedics treated him, that showed “a bloodied nose.” The prosecutor also had photographic evidence of bruises to the back of his head.

3) I expect someone like you to reply with the "Witnesses are changing their stories, not good for Zimmerman" line. Here is the way it is concerning their testimony and its changes, from Randlall Smith, a criminal profiles examiner:

The issue of race has played a major role in this case, in no small part to the president’s comments about how if he had a son he would look like Trayvon Martin, as well as the bounty the New Black Panthers put on Zimmerman. And that race role may be impacting witness statements now.

Female witness #2 went from seeing two males running and a fist fight to only seeing one male running. She now blames “contact lenses” for the discrepancy. If she is supposed to wear the glasses to correct an eyesight deficiency, but didn’t have them in at the time, it will impact her credibility on the stand.

Female witness #12 went from seeing two men on the ground, unable to tell who was on top, to suddenly having the epiphany that Zimmerman was on top—“because she recognized his size based on news reports.”

You could expect the cops to disregard that testimony in normal investigations, and the Zimmerman defense to logically discount it in court during trial. Even the prosecutor can’t vouch for that biased change.

Male witness #6 definitely sounds like someone has spoken to him, going from a clear and unequivocal testimony that “Martin was on top of Zimmerman and throwing down punches mixed martial arts style” and that Zimmerman was the one calling for help, to now claiming he can’t really say anything except Martin was on top of Zimmerman.

At least he isn’t deviating from the key fact: Trayvon Martin was astraddle George Zimmerman and giving him a head and face beating before being shot.

Male witness #13 hasn’t changed his story about Zimmerman telling him that Martin was beating him up, which made him have to shoot him, but he is adding to the story now with talk of a “casual tone” by Zimmerman after the incident.

Shock from having to shoot someone when you are not used to firing a weapon at a person can cause a kind of calm and detached demeanor to appear, even with police officers, so don’t look for that to impact the case in any significant way either.

If this witness starts coming up with new “insights” about the events or comments immediately following the shooting, however, it will look more like witness tampering at this stage in the case.

Witness tampering can lead to legal consequences for the guilty, if the witnesses have been led to change their stories in the Trayvon Martin shooting due to coercion or financial incentive, for example. But some witnesses just change their story, or rather become less sure of it, once time and distance has occurred in a case.

Those witnesses hear things on the radio or television, talk to their neighbors and family and friends, or discuss the situation with professional colleagues or co-workers, further confusing them about exactly what they did see or hear, sometimes.

It doesn’t help if they aren’t the only witness to an incident, as they can then find themselves comparing notes with other witnesses, or at the least, reading those statements or hearing those comments aired publicly.

And that could have happened in the Trayvon Martin shooting case, where national headlines have been an almost daily occurrence online and in the press, and television coverage remains high as well. Add that to the fact that these witness all live in the same community and you have what is happening now: witness story changes.

4) As John Hayward of Human Events puts it in his article, "The Zimmerman case disintegrates -Beating people up because they looked at you funny is wrong": "The release of evidence in George Zimmerman’s murder trial quickly made a mockery of his second-degree murder charges, and threw a further layer of shame upon media and political opportunists who misrepresented a tragic, but fairly straightforward, case of lethal force employed in self-defense.

It is remarkable to take stock of this evidence and realize that it supports every single aspect of Zimmerman’s statement to the police.  His injuries are consistent with his account of physical assault by Trayvon Martin.  Martin’s gunshot wound occurred at the very short range described by Zimmerman, demolishing fantasies about a racist mall-cop wannabe stalking and murdering an innocent black kid for no reason."

5) For Black Racist supporters like you, nothing will change your mind. It's bigoted, closed, and incapable of reason. Hopefully, the jury won't have anyone like you on it.

It is remarkable to take stock of this evidence and realize that it supports every single aspect of Zimmerman’s statement to the police.

Zimmerman's own statement is what convicts him. He confessed to a series of actions which would have made any reasonable person fearful and suspicious.

Zimmerman chased Martin in a vehicle, exited the vehicle, refused to identify himself or state his purpose when Martin asked him why he was being followed and then Zimmerman reached into his pants or jacket. That's Zimmerman's own account. Every American has a right to punch out a guy who does that. Do you believe that only white people should be permitted to slug a stranger who chases them and then appears to be drawing down on them? Would you just stand there if Zimmerman did that to you?

And according to the Strand Your Ground law it was Trayvon Martin who had a right to defend himself against such threatening behavior. The author of the law says so. What makes you belive that you understand the Stand Your Ground law better than those who wrote it?

For Black Racist supporters like you, nothing will change your mind. It's bigoted, closed, and incapable of reason. Hopefully, the jury won't have anyone like you on it.

Do you believe that Sen. Peaden, Rep. Baxlety or Gov Bush are also ignorant fools who support black racism?

Where did you dig up that so-called "account" by Zimmerman? I have never seen anything resembling that. I think you are lying . . . but give me a link so I can read it for myself.

Regardless, you obviously have a problem reading - all the legal experts on either side of the issue agree YOU DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO PUNCH OUT SOMEONE JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE FOLLOWING YOU. You never have the right to touch a person without that person's explicit consent. If someone does touch you without your consent, you can use only "reasonable force" to stop them - that means you can't beat someone to death because they followed you and reached inside their pants. Idiot.

If Martin was so scared, all he had to do was dial 911 and ask police to come out and protect him - that's what any of us are supposed to do. But your thug mentality says you are supposed to get into a fist fight.

But then Martin was already up there because he had been thrown out of school for possession of a bag tainted with marijuana residue, and drug paraphernalia - not to mention the fact that he was already high that night on dope at the time of the incident (Source: Coroner's autopsy report on Martin's urine and blood.). I guess being messed up on drugs after being thrown out of school for possession somewhat inhibited Martin from calling the cops.

Then you go off with some jive about Zimmerman slugging Martin, the "No limits nigga" in all this. Again, no one - not even the prosecutor - has ever said Zimmerman struck Martin first, and reached inside his pants. Again, you are the only person on Earth with that information.

As for understanding the law, everyone agrees that the Stand Your Ground Law may not apply - but, my idiot friend - it does not negate self-defense. You can't sit on top of someone, beating the tar out of them, and then say that individual can't use deadly force if that is the only option available to get you to stop the beating.

Your logic says Martin could kill Zimmerman, and Zimmerman can't defend himself from Martin's beating. You're a total whack job.

As for the politicians, I believe every one of them is intimidated by Black Racism.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cellphone, he told police. Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now," or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose, according to the account he gave police.

Am I an "idiot" because I can quote the author of the Stand Your Ground law who says that the law gave Martin the right to defend himself? Would you prefer that the law be interpreted by activist judges rather than see it followed as the authors intended?

But then Martin was already up there because he had been thrown out of school for possession of a bag tainted with marijuana residue, and drug paraphernalia - not to mention the fact that he was already high that night on dope at the time of the incident (Source: Coroner's autopsy report on Martin's urine and blood.). Not true.

Martin's autopsy indicated that medical examiners found THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, when they tested Martin's blood and urine. The amount described in the autopsy report is such a low level that it would have played no role in Martin's behavior, said Larry Kobilinsky, a professor of forensic science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.

"This kind of level can be seen days after somebody smokes," Kobilinsky said. "If it comes up in the case, I would be surprised. It wouldn't benefit the defense, it wouldn't benefit the prosecution, and if the defense tried to bring it up, the judge would keep it out."

Zimmerman instigated the incident. He acted in a threatening manner. Rep, Baxley, the author of the Stand Your Ground law says it does apply as Martin had a right to defend himself against Zimmerman. He says that codifying such a right to self defense is why he wrote the law to begin with. Folks don't have to just sit back and take what's coming from some creepy guy that chases them down a dark street. It's a good law.

Painting with a broad brush can sometimes be very effective when one has no facts to support one's position. But you knew that. Other times it doesn't work at all. And that's the lesson you're learning tonight. Can you can be more specific and back up your allegations with some documentation or are your arguments restricted to vague innuendo?

Why don't you play with this one for a while:

The police perspective was most succinctly stated in a March 13 "capias request" -- a request that someone be taken into custody -- sent to the state's attorney. It speaks to the fact that Zimmerman ignored a police dispatcher's advice not to chase Martin, as well as his communications with Martin prior to the shooting.

"The encounter between George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin was ultimately avoidable by Zimmerman, if Zimmerman had remained in his vehicle and awaited the arrival of law enforcement, or conversely if he had identified himself to Martin as a concerned citizen and initiated dialog (sic) in an effort to dispel each party's concern" the request said. The media has really played folks on this one. Zimmerman is a Democrat minority social activist and simply by calling him white the media has delivered the support of a boat load of right wing reactionaries. A neat trick. Not only that, but the goal of this diversion is to undermine the right to self defense -- the very right which the Zimmerman apologists claim to support. And the fish are going for it hook, line and sinker.

More lies? Yes, you keep telling them!!

The term "white" was first applied to Zimmerman by the Martin family attorney named Crump. It was not until the media, pitiful as they are, discovered he is Hispanic in the same way Obama is black (one of the two parents was in the minority classification - for Zimmerman, he is Hispanic by his mother, and Obama is black by his father.)

So the Black Racists had a problem - you can't create racial hate against another minority member, so they then labeled Zimmerman a "White Hispanic" - keeping the white is in there to create the racial hate. After all, Sharpton is $2.6-million in debt to the IRS for employee taxes he withheld but didn't submit, so he has a real need to churn out all the Black Racist hate he can manufacture on MSNBC and in the rest of the LSM.

Of course, that logic means Obama is a White Black - and that has been making a fool of the Black Racists ever since. But the LameStream Media doesn't care - as apologists and supporters of the Black Racists (Think David Duke, the white alter ego of Al Sharpton, will get an MSNBC program to spout his White Racism . . . ?). The LSM just keeps up the White Hispanic fraud while ignoring the obvious White Black label they should then apply to Obama.

Dude, you are one messed up person.

Wed, 05/23/2012 - 19:54 | 2457056's picture

George Zimmerman is a self identified Hispanic. He is registered as a Democrat and he has participated in race based social activism. He has been portrayed by the media as being white or half white. Despite his party affiliation, his minority status and the fact that three prominent white Republican politicians who wrote and signed the Stand Your Ground law see Zimmerman as guilty he has received the bulk of his support from the right wing. All these statements are true.

Why are you so obsessed with portraying documented facts as lies?

there is plenty of science.

Perhaps you should research the IQ distribution in Africa.

Perhaps you should research how Bantu languages dont even have basic concepts such as "half-way", "promise", "obligation", "future" etc

Races are different, from the bone structure to IQ, to deny it is childish.

Wed, 05/23/2012 - 15:03 | 2456107 AchtungAffen
AchtungAffen's picture

There are languages that don't even have the definition of future. But languages have to do with its distribution and how many people speak it. Languages spoken by few people tend to have weird things like that.

As for IQ and race, let's see what the science says:

There's a huge ammount of sources from academia there. Of course you might want to believe anecdotes instead.

Wed, 05/23/2012 - 15:30 | 2456217 Waffen

"Neither the existence nor the size of race differences in IQ are a matter of dispute, only their cause," write the authors. The Black-White difference has been found consistently from the time of the massive World War I Army testing of 90 years ago to a massive study of over 6 million corporate, military, and higher-education test-takers in 2001."

Like I said to deny it is childish.

"Race differences show up by 3 years of age, even after matching on maternal education and other variables," said Rushton. "Therefore they cannot be due to poor education since this has not yet begun to exert an effect. That's why Jensen and I looked at the genetic hypothesis in detail. We examined 10 categories of evidence."

The Worldwide Pattern of IQ Scores. East Asians average higher on IQ tests than Whites, both in the U. S. and in Asia, even though IQ tests were developed for use in the Euro-American culture. Around the world, the average IQ for East Asians centers around 106; for Whites, about 100; and for Blacks about 85 in the U.S. and 70 in sub-Saharan Africa."

Philippe Rushton... really? You got to be kidding me. Not only that no national scientific association seems to endorse his findings, and let's not even talk about the concepts he uses and the scientific debate on them; but you also missed an important part in what's called illusion of causation: causation. You showed a relation between the disappearance of pirates and global warming, but not the mechanism that causes it.

yur both right...

man did what any good journalist used to do....made a few factual observations, put them together with a theme of decline, left it to the reader to determine the degree to which the facts fit the message. Best damn post I've read here in months, an just when I thought we'd hit rock bottom!

Here's what got left out...

all those white middle class neighborhoods were the nesting ground of the Merikan WW2 veteran...who fought, survived, then came home welcomed as heroes, eager to get on with life, and make something of themselves.

They did just that.

Then a different generation of boys went to the southeast Asia theatre and fought a different kind of war...when they came home they were shunned, spit upon, and given the finger by the cool Abby Hoffman\Bill Ayres type dudes who'd stayed home and fucked their girlfriends whilst they were busy trying to stay away from bungee sticks.

This has nothing much to do with who lives in what neighborhood, and everything to do with what happened when those boys realized what the dirty lowdown really was all about, and jus gave up on the country that gave up on it did to the next batch sent into the ME to be physically and mentally poisoned on behalf of the same usurping money power planning the next terror event to enlist Merikan boys into as we speak...

Philly, home to John Coltrane, and other great Amerikans, black n white, who left to themselves, would have carried everybody else uptown with them, such was their spirit of hard work and genius.

so, and please correct me if I'm wrong here, what appears to be happening is a dis-illusion-ment with the "amrkn dream" - which was sold to those generations of boys to make killing families in "other nations" easier - and now amrkns have "given up" dreaming and are waking up to a reality of sorts?

and the boys left "back home" to protest the wars (and fuck) - are they the "bad guys" for not wanting to fight for the military machine?  or the "good guys" for pointing out some facts that many here are still trying to connect to reality?  it's kinda messy, I'm just trying to see where the line is being drawn.

I mean, the OP is pretty clear who's on the "bad side" in his post, lots of descriptives, including the new ever popular meme "obese" - who can we blame this mess on tho'?  who's fault is it that amrkns woke up from their dreaming?

sneering at the Merikan Dream is just a trained monkey trick that ingenues learned to do as part of their indoctrination by the Frankfurt School designed 'general education' package...moral, ethical, physical decay by design,

lots of differing opinions to those questions, and I'm clear in my own answers - I don't believe it has ever served any other purpose than to keep people asleep, dreamin' on - while the real work is being done - elsewhere, and by others.

Couple of things occurred to me in the course of thinkin about this.

For the sake of staying consistent with yur previous comment, I will simply say that Nam, all the actions subsequent, an prolly Korea before it, were fought by Merikan boys on behalf of 'foreign powers'...there's no use beating round the bush, yes I mean the usurpers of Palestine, the moneychangers who now own most of Europe, what's left of Merika, and the greater part of the rest of the 'developed world.'

Because I consistently make a distinction between the Sabbatean\Frankists who work the "jewish" angle to their great advantage, and the 'hebraics' themselves doesn't really matter in this case...those Merikan citizens who identified themselves as jews in the 60's an 70's were the main players in a massive seizure of power - from the inheritors of the Europoid\Atlantean mainstream populace who found themselves[briefly] livin free in "the New World" to the racially hegemonistic sionist power which kept their agents outta the line of fire in all these wars, and firmly entrenched in places of power...

where we are today. Which,as this thread most revealingly demonstrates, is a populace easily led into false divisions between themselves, and all the possibilties of healing inherent to the natural order of things rendered void...just as the moneychangers want it.

Now, the new proprietors of yur unhappy home are the same ones what stayed outta the line of fire...and where I have to get close to including yu with the ingenues I referred to previously is when it appears that yu don't realize that the Ayres\Dorns and their puppet presidents have stayed tru to their vision as well - they used[and use] the word liquidation in a sense that Merikans need to seriously wake up to realizing is not about getting rid of overinventory of widescreen TVs....these people are[were] the PolPots of the western hemisphere, an yu big hea rted liberal types are gonna be on their list jus after the rest of us...till the streets run red.

just what this "Merikan Dream" really is, when was it dreamt up, and by whom?

Damned if I know - I left any semblance of it behind 5 years back, in order to pursue something quintessential to the "Merikan Spirit"...I am not even American, but I grew up watching Rawhide, and then the movies Clint put out under his own banner...and I knew, from 5 years old...get a horse, learn to ride it, maintain yur pride of person, though sometime hide it, look after those weaker than yurself, who through no fault of their own have had less luck shine upon them...always travel light, and be ready to hold yur own when the bullies come knockin...

that's the whole I learned it all watchin American television...that weren't no dream, that was a vision! [Gino Vanelli - Brother to Brother]

you've got a lot of storyline in there, and I probably agree to a lot of the labels you apply, but in the end we'll part ways at the amrkn dream stuffs - I don't believe it ever existed as anything more than an actual dream - in that some people were "living the dream" as portrayed, and others "aspired to the dream" perhaps not finding it, etc.

but the dream itself, was just the carrot dangling to get people to aspire - that's the amrkn dream, aspire to have more than others, and stay asleep to what the gov & military is riding roughshod over globally - amrkn exceptionalism means "never having to say you're sorry" because gawd says you're the chosen ones and other peoples are less than you, so invading and killing them, well, god's work & all.

amrkns have had the luxury of being the ones "chosen" by those who pull the strings, "chosen" as live-stock to be treated to greener pastures, better foodstuffs, fattened & penned, grown up as taxed labourers - they believe themselves (not everyone, this is a wide generalisation of the character, not the individuals) to be special, and maybe they were, for a short time, in that they got "special" treatment. higher wages than global counterparts = more taxes farmed from them for the overlords.  ^^

that time is coming to a close.  the abattoir is on the horizon, the nationstate fences are being dismantled, the "farmers" have moved on to their other global livestock.  your last paragraph resonates with me - just maintain your own reality, help those who could use that help, travel light.

but I suspect you'll find people in every culture, worldwide, who know these values, even if they've never watched amrkn TV, nor worn the "white hat" - they are not amrkn values, but human ones.

The author must work in the University of Pennsylvania area, that's where his trip ended thankfully because if he kept driving a few more blocks and made one left turn he could have driven through North Philly, which is actually worse than West Philly, and 80 more blocks of squalor.

He is right about West Philly and the suburbs of Delaware County which are nearest Philadelphia and the decline of factories and jobs there but he is wrong to imply that this is something relatively new-middle class people have been moving further away from the cities since the end of WWII: first they moved from the older city areas to the newer city areas, then they moved to the closest suburbs and then they moved  even further out and now even into the next counties! Check out Chester County, it borders Delaware County to the west, that much further out from West Philly-its population has increased fivefold since 1980s, a half million now, and drive along Route 202 and you will see where many of them are employed. Same thing in Montgomery County to the north of West Philly-ever hear of King of Prussia?

The point is Philadelphis is a cesspit and that cesspit is seeping into the nearest and oldest suburbs and Mr Quinn does have the bad fortune to ocassionally have to get off the Expressway and drive through it to get to work, and more people than ever are getting swallowed up in it because of the general decline of our culture and economy, but the trend is really nothing new.

I live in Chester County and commute into center city Philly every work day.  And I'm familiar w/the Penn campus, more or less.

Chester County is a very affluent county and it's bond issues are still very well rated.  It's a completely different world from the rot in the neighborhoods of inner city Philly.

But I had an interesting conversation w/my friendly banker the other week.  Retail consumer loan volume in this southern Chester County branch has tanked from like, 2.5 million per month down to a fraction of that. Southern Chester County is still all nice and shiny, but who knows for how much longer?

A month ago I was returning some stuff at Home Depot (with a receipt) and a hispanic woman in front of me with a Wal-mart bag returned $275 worth of disparate items. Plumbing, electrical, a few router bits, some tape, all stuff easily pocketable.  She took her $275 gift card and left.  I told the clerk that all that stuff was stolen and she said "I know, but we can't accuse them of that or I'll lose my job".  She said that they give out $1000 a day on average this way.  One time she took back $1900 worth of power tools (big pockets I guess) no questions asked.  She even has watched people walk out the entrance with stuff but was told by corporate to do nothing.

It is welfare.  I'm sure HD gets a tax break for returning stolen items no questions asked.

I should have followed her out the store and bought that gift card for $100, no questions asked.

You are entirely correct.

The going rate on a jobsite for a HD giftcard is right around 40%.  All HD does is just raise the prices to make up for shrink, so this is just another way how the average joe is getting fucked.

On a somewhat related story, back in high school I worked at best buy.  We had a code that when given over the loudspeaker would mean that everyone was to come up to the front because a shoplifter was about to try to escape.  The guy broke through the line, so a few of us chased him down.  We caught and held him down until the cops arrived only to be told by the cop's that we could be charged for assualt, and to "get the fuck back to work"  We also all had to attend a meeting with some HR corporate pencilneck to discuss how what we did is wrong.

I blame the lawyers.

A few years back at one of our local stores an employee and security guard noticed a shoplifter leaving the store. They followed him out and confronted him in the parking lot. He shot the security guard in the chest. My neighbor who's a nurse heard the shot and ran to the guard on the ground and tried to give him aid. Other people ran to help and was wressling with the asshole to get the gun away from him. My neighbor looked up and saw him bring the gun to the employee's head and pull the trigger. Luckily the gun jammed and he was subdued by the crowd. The security guard died in my neighbors arms. The sad thing was he had just returned from Iraq and had a 5 month old baby. The other employee had a mental break down and the store was going to fire him for abandoning his job. My neighbor had to testify for him as a nurse that when someone hold a gun to your temple and doesn't go off, it's going to take a while to get over it. At least our community really rallied around all involved. If not, the tweaker shit bag my have gotten off. He killed someone for $30.

After going through the horror of this, I guess it would have been better to the the guy go. There's just no justice in this country anymore, the thugs are in charge now, banksters on the top and the druggies on the lower end.

Here's another casino tale for ya...

During the day, a guy deposits a counterfeit check (usually <$5000) into his 31-day-old bank account. Sometime after midnight, he goes to the casino with his debit card and buys a bunch of chips, plays at some game for a bit, graciously "loses" a little, buys a couple of drinks, and then cashes out. A few days later the original deposit bounces and the bank is out for the sum of the check.

That is an awesome story. Basically, the clerk and the shop acts as a fence and no one cares, especially themselves.

Great story. And they can not issue a policy of returning items with receipts because what, that would keep them from acting like a fence.

Or even better, well, the thiefs are so good they steal items with receipts associated to them.

So good.

Or maybe it is just a bit of US citizen commercial sense: do not wrong the customer. A customer comes and tell that goods are stolen, go along with not to alienate the customer. But hey, who knows?

That would mean that US citizenism is at work. And it cant be that.

wasn't it WallyWorld that began all this "no questions asked" return policy?  because it wasn't always that way.

and then other stores have to adopt the policy to compete, of course - and of course it gets exploited, being as it's amrkns & all - that's part of the deal here - even the first poster bemoaned the fact that he didn't follow the woman out of the store and get a "cheap voucher" by offering her $100 - and another chimes in on how the vouchers get about "40%" value at work sites. . .

everyone appears to be in on the act - please don't keep telling me it's just the "other colours" who do this, because I know better, and so should "you". . . the whole shoplifting exchange/returns thing is decades old, it's just theft at a different level than the shit that goes down with the big boys in "financials" - it's all theft, all the time, every level, every town, everywhere.

And this is the quandary we are in. When you enable an addict by naively trying to be helpful you just maintain the addiction and make the outcome worse in the long run

When you enable irresponsible immoral behavior and convince peoPle they are entitled then you just maintain and worsen the bad behavior and essentially subsidize it

Indeed it is a cop out.  Part of the fault he is laying blame on the bankers when it is indeed a choice and the blame should be on HUD and section 8.  I am sure most of the property is under this program.  Race and color have nothing to do with it.  Jim is pointing out a factual statistic in this area but you can find other parts of the country with different stats.  To be honest I am tired of the blaming everyone else for our choices.  Let the junking begin.

You can make a choice to get out of it I did and never went back, but again one has to make a choice and make that goal in life happen.  Funny someone said this was bad and have never been to Detriot.  Some call this a lib problem when actually it is a politician and voter problem.  Detroit looks like a war zone go hit you tube if you never traveled there.

The article is a good one and thanks for publishing it.  I just do not buy into blaming even the banks on this one as it is a personal choice regardless of national origin or skin color on how and where you live.  You just need to set the goals and then do what you need to do to achieve those goals.

I didn't down tick you, just wanted to add that "HUD and Section 8" benefits are colour blind, and care not who uses them.

they are also a backhanded way of funneling money to landlords, the people who buy the "cheap" housing in rundown areas, don't maintain those properties BUT charge a rate propped up by the .gov with "vouchers" - once again, using the human who lives in the house to line the pockets of the landlords, via .gov benefits that everyone complains about - oh, and keeps those utility companies in business as well.

it's like JPM profiting from SNAP cards, which are used in supermarkets to buy corporate foods, the vicious circle with the human as the "middleman" for monies pushed around and around. . .

no, I didn't read your post that way at all, which is why I wanted you to know I didn't down vote it.

I'm trying to show an alternative way of perceiving these "benefits" that people are being trained to hate the receivers-of, rather than the conceivers-of.

the majority of "social benefits" are just ways of funneling pixel-monies from .gov (who is not in the business of earning money, merely allocating taxed work) to their corporate beneficiaries - they are the ones on benefits my friend - and landlords who feed off the benefits as well.

supermarkets selling corporate GMO-fud - via SNAP cards - JPM issuing the cards and making a profit from - landlords & Section 8 rent vouchers, cell phone providers & "free cell phones for the poor" - utilities paid by social services, every "benefit" is just dot-gov-pixel shuffling to support this fake "reality" until. . . it doesn't.

then the collapse into chaos & the one world solution to save the day. . .

be well, be informed.
