NDAA Protests End In Ironic Swarm Of Arrests

The absurdity of America today never ceases to amaze.  In fact, it has become so elaborate that one might even suggest it has reached a kind of poetic symmetry.  When a protest group is willing to stick their necks out to expose the horror of the National Defense Authorization Act and its open door strategy for unconstitutional arrest and indefinite detainment of American citizens, I have to stand up and applaud.  This is the kind of protest we need to see all over the country.  Of course, any establishment system which is willing to dissolve the inherent liberties of its citizens certainly isn't going to stand by quietly while they blatantly point out the injustice.  The Grand Central Terminal action featured in the video below is a perfect example of the swift and immediate stifling of peaceful dissent by an increasingly totalitarian government:

Responses to the event vary.  Most people who have actually been exposed to the facts on the NDAA have expressed utter disgust and fury.  Rightly so.  Some, however, have taken the old elitist mantra, perpetuated effectively by the Neo-Cons in their heyday, that if you are not for the system, then you are a danger to society.  Not surprisingly, there are still plenty of useful idiots out there buzzing about like parasites in search of blood.

For those who would applaud these arrests, and suggest that they are well deserved, I would have to ask very pointedly; why?

Is it right to crush free speech as long as the message is offensive to you personally?  Do peaceful protestors really present a legitimate threat to our national stability?  Are they truly more dangerous than a corrupt government hellbent on assassinating the legal protections of our natural rights which have existed for centuries?  Would any supporter of the jackboot methodology like to explain to me in a coherent manner why they believe their skewed world view should be shielded from sincere questions?  Please, I can't wait to witness the kind of ridiculous mental gymnastics required to make such arguments palatable.  If this kind of ignorance wasn't so destructive, it might actually be entertaining.

The bottom line is, it doesn't matter if these activists were in Grand Central Terminal, on the streets, or busting through the doors of the Oval Office.  While New York authorities will attempt to argue property loopholes in free speech protections for Grand Central, or national security because of the vulnerability of the terminal, really, this has nothing to do with either.  This is about the removal of American voices from a room, and nothing more.   If the message is going to be suppressed by the mainstream media, and shrugged off by representatives, then protesters must go to where the people are, and make the truth heard by whatever means necessary.

Ultimately, activism is about disturbing people's normal mundane routines and shocking them out of their pop-culture stupor, even if for a moment.  If we aren't allowed to do that without constant police intervention, then the First Amendment is not being served, and then, my friends, we have a problem, a problem which should be forced down the throat of government with even more public action.

Problem is, theres few if any places to 'leave it' to now. What are you going to do move to Bora Bora?

SheepDog-One's picture

Can you even move to Iceland? I dont know!

francis_sawyer's picture

Depends on where you're starting from... If you're starting from HAWAII, I can get you as far as Los Angeles... Then, you're on your own...,+HI&daddr=Los+Angeles,+CA&hl=en&ll=34.885931,-138.164062&spn=43.727648,101.25&sll=21.207459,-142.998047&sspn=49.037102,101.25&geocode=FUAeRQEd40WX9ilNRsOMOxgAfDFsl6fzX_UoSw%3BFYqYBwIdm77z-CkT2ifcXcfCgDH0CEYlb98v4g&oq=honolulu&vpsrc=0&mra=ls&t=m&z=4

Don't forget that crucial STEP #13 (as it will be crucial towards your eventual passage to Iceland)...

Bora Bora doesn't want you.

Neither does Fiji, or Palau.

American?  Most countries would prefer that you stay home and not destroy their country like we have ours.

uno's picture

not destroy their country like we have ours.

I think it should say planet not country

Red Herring's picture

Why are these two choices mutually exclusive? Why can't I love it AND leave it? Since the relationship has turned so dysfunctional, sounds like a reasonable choice.

Turning it around, what will the advice be for North Koreans, or any other evil country that is the direct opposite of the beacon of liberty? Hate it or stay?

Cast Iron Skillet's picture

I loved my first wife, but had to leave her. Sometimes it's like that.

margaris's picture

so you see it as that kind of relationship you have with your government?

wait.... you HAVE that kind of relationship.

Government fucks you day and night.

"does the government work for us, or do we work for the government"

Wow! They're allowing the Judge to bare the truth of the BS Left|Right circus. Most of the public can't think critically, so this will surely confuse many. They will contemplate it for a few seconds, then go back to their old thought patterns. The sheep have been conditioned well. Such people are beasts of burden and steaks on the table by choice and consent.

JOYFUL's picture

Well put.

I don't know what's spookier at this point....the cascade of stories like this one which show in stark fashion the erosion of basic civil liberties in Amerika, or the cacophony of shrill voices that come out every time somebody like Doug Casey makes a reasoned case for getting out in time.

Fight to the death, come n get me, I'll give em my lead when they come for my gold....blab blab bla.....ummm, exactly when is the resistance supposed to start, internet tough guys?!? After all yur girlie\men neighbors bin hauled off to Camp Fema and it's you and your arsenal against the rest of the world? You are all isolated in your internet bubbles of resistance and easy pickings for TPTB.

Although I still fear for the day when my former compatriots and fellow melatoninally-challenged rootstock brethern are no longer even at liberty to leave prison Eurmerika, I increasingly have come to accept that very very few of us will be out there, conducting our 'bandit' resistance from the fringes of the Empire, and that maybe our efforts will be token in the grand course of things.  But we will have died in a common cause, as warriors in the manner of our own choosing, instead of going singlely to the slaughter like braying donkeys or bleating sheep.

America...leave it cause you love it, fight to restore it, live to return to it. Be wary of those who would sacrifice you for nothing more than their own false bravado.

I'm not sure that others here quite understand the significance of what you said. I guess they haven't had their coffee yet.

infinity8's picture

You CAN be sure that we understand him, Turd Man.

Whoa Dammit's picture

The Third Man is referencing the poster's name, EX-PAT, which many have overlooked.

thedrickster's picture

Oh I took Ex-Pat's post as being tongue in cheek but have had the disfortune of being told the same, all kidding aside.

My rhetorical boot was aimed at the criminally ignorant slob that would hurl such drivel in my direction.

VelvetHog's picture

AT this time I'd like to invite you to eat the peanuts out of my shit!

All I have to do is pay someone $10,000 to get me over that big wall they built between US and Mexico.....

Ohh, it's not built? Ok, the $10,000 would be for payoffs once in Mexico.

GeneMarchbanks's picture

Wow. You just took the temperature big time. We're not even close, this a comfortable 72F.

TheFourthStooge-ing's picture

Ex-Pat, resorting to phony patriotic jingoism to express the fear, loathing, and hatred of freedom that is prevalent in so many of America's "patriots", bleated:

Love it or leave it.

Here's one that's even better, Ex-Pat, and because it will fit on a bumper sticker, you might even understand it (although it does have one of those difficult four-syllable words):

America - Fix It or Fuck It

Conrad Murray's picture

How long until politicians and bankers are found murdered in their homes and offices. How long until crowds of unemployed individuals burn down same homes and offices with the traitors inside?

The NDAA and SOPA are the last straws. If you are not ready to die, it's time to leave. Barack O'Romney 2012, slaves.

Rip van Wrinkle's picture

Been thinking that for some time. Someone, somewhere is gonna take the law into their own hands.

And it's exactly what people are being provoked to do.

kridkrid's picture

And it's exactly what people are being provoked to do.

And that's the rub, I suppose.  Only this time, instead of it just being Fox News carrying water vs. the OWS movement, it will be all corporate media.  90% of Americans will be firmly on the side of the police state.  This is what will happen, sadly.

thedrickster's picture

And that friends is "how".

While watching the History Channel one late night you find yourself quietly asking "how could that happen?", remember that the answer lies right in front of you with OWS.

Divide and conqeuor has been the name of the game for millenia, pax americana and normalcy bias be damned, history will repeat itself bitches.

licutis's picture

Being provoked so their actions can be used to justify even further tyranny. this will not end well.

Silver Dreamer's picture

I've always hated that phrase "take the law into your own hands."  Since when has defending the law been exclusively the right of the government?  America is in the situation it is exactly because the government has made a mockery of the law, and We the People have not been defending it.

Conrad, I am afraid your assessment, terrifying as it is, will shortly come to pass - The hypocrisy is staggering...More Americans on SNAP programs & such juxtaposed versus Jon Corzine purchasing a Castle in Europe & shopping for office space at 40 Wall Street - The US Legislative branch absolute inability/unwillingness to agree on spending cuts on philosophical principles as the debt ceiling is increased again just 6 months after the legislation was passed BUT NDAA which compromises the Bill of Rights can be passed without issue - unfortunately Washington DC fiddles while American burns...ultimately, when the flames reach DC they will cry out for Justice...and Justice they will receive...

Watch it pal, you sound like a potential terrorist! You could hear a knock on your door in the middle of the night.

OMG! Blank Reg! Is Big Time TV still on the air?  I was just watching Edison last night.

Blank Reg's picture

Big Time Television. From sunrise to sunset, filling your empty lives with mindless drek!

j0nx's picture

As long as people as a whole are more interested in football than what's happening around them then these kinds of things will continue to happen and will only get worse. Americans really just don't give a shit about anything other than sports, beer and reality tv - as a general rule anyway.

SheepDog-One's picture

I know a couple guys at work who have absolutely no idea whats ACTUALLY happening all around them, but they can give you any stat from any game or player thruout the season.

Max Hunter's picture

I know dozens of people like that.. Yes.. dozens..

The scariest thing is just how much excitement they all have.  You can see it in their conversations.

Willful ignorance on a grand scale.

I told someone last week that it was true the CIA imported crack cocaine into the US in the '80 to fund it's ventures, from the reaction I got I would have been better off saying I was gang banged by aliens.

Careful, you may become distraught and shoot yourself, with a revolver, twice.  Just like Gary Webb.

same in my office... and all the women know all the intimate details of fictional characters on bullshit useless TV shows.   for many, this is going to be quite a painful transition.

Randall Cabot's picture

You remind me of 911, went to the cafeteria at work for a coffee minutes after it broke and they already had a TV set up with a packed house watching. It was really no big surprise to me but as I looked around all the women were distraught and crying and some of the men were trembling. Morons!

Are you talking about the 101st Joystick Division bombing Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan from the comfort of a shipping container, or the day traders swapping bits on 'Wall St'?

snowbaall's picture

Americans now live in a police state.

Who'd of ever thought that Alex Jones would be right?

Nevertheless, America honeys still have big tits.

Perhaps Dr. Paul can set things straight.

We can only pray.

Conrad Murray's picture

It only takes a small group of people, even a single individual, to ignite the fire under the average Joe's ass. Something as simple as dressing up like one of the local gang bangers and burning down a bank, leaving a note(or a banner strung from the power lines outside) that says, "Unemployed and FED up".

Enough people do that and the media can't ignore it. Hell, put it on youtube or liveleak and it will go viral. That would get more of the people on the sidelines just waiting for the right moment to say, "I too have had enough", and act.

Mohamed Bouazizi, never forget.

JOYFUL's picture

Kudos for mentioning the illustrious fruit peddler Mohammed Bouazizi, but I fear you are confusing cause with effect in invoking his memory here alongside the suggestion of effective resistance strategies for Amerikans.

His was the act of a man denied the simple dignity of being able to earn his daily bread in peace and security by the petty terrorists of the State. In these supposed backwards countries like Tunisia, the ability for and necessity of this daily toil in the marketplace is much greater than in USSA, where the State has largely supplanted private industry on the part of it's citizens serfs direct livelihoods.

Very soon well over half of the populace there will be directly dependent upon BIG SIS for their daily sustenance - a circumstance which erodes the capacity for individual acts of desperate defiance such as  Bouazizi's, and also reduces the solidarity of the populace with each other, and thus their capacity for common cause.

Amerika is in an advanced state of terminal decay, in which all opposition feeds the SYSTEM, which seeks, and soon will find total control over the lives and fates of its' citizen serfs. I would sincerely love to be wrong about this, but until proof is furnished otherwise, controlled opposition exercise like OWS etc. etc. are merely more evidence that all authentic resistance has already been crushed, save for pockets of libertarian-minded bandit elements.
