Guest Post: A New Boogeyman For America

Submitted by James Miller of Miller's Genuine Draft

A New Boogeyman for America

Last month, now-retired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen testified to a U.S. Senate panel that Pakistan’s Inter-services Intelligence Agency backed the terrorist group Haqqani in its attack on the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.  Never heard of Haqqani?  Don’t worry, you probably never heard of Al-Qaeda prior to 9/11 either.  According to Mullen, “the Haqqani network…acts as a veritable arm of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence Agency.” The Haqqani network was founded and is lead by the newly dubbed public enemy No. 1; Jalaluddin Haqqani.

America, meet your new boogeyman.

It has been estimated that the U.S. has given $19 billion in foreign aid to Pakistan since the onset of the “War on Terror.”  This aid has resulted in Pakistan being used as a safe haven for Osama bin Laden, Al Qaeda, and Haqqani.  Chalk up another foreign policy achievement right next to the WMDs in Iraq.

With bin Laden dead and the assassination (no sugar coat here, that’s exactly what it was) of the American-born Al-Qaeda recruiter known as Anwar al-Awlaki, one would hope that our Middle East presence would begin to diminish.  Judging by Senator Lindsey Graham’s prompting of a military reaction to Pakistan, you can pack that hope away along with naively believing Barack Obama would bring the troops home. If anything, our Nobel Peace prize winning president has been a boon for the military industrial complex.

The whole problem with Pakistan and Haqqani is that it’s not at all surprising when looking at the history of U.S. foreign policy.  When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan around 1979, it has long been asserted by experts such as U.K. Foreign Secretary Robin Cook and former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto that the CIA trained and provided financial support for Osama bin Laden and the Afghan Mujahideen insurgents.  During the recent Republican presidential debates, there has been plenty of talk of how to deal with Iran’s pursuance of a nuclear arms program.  Despite all the worshipping of the stalwart of conservatism, Ronald Reagan, no candidate brings up that nasty little non-secret of the Gipper selling arms to the Iranians in the 1980’s.  Most recently, after financing and assisting the Libyan rebels in overthrowing Muammar Gaddafi, the rebels are now detaining supposed Gaddafi supporters without cause or evidence.  So much for instilling western democracy.

The trend is no different with Haqqani.  Following Admiral Mullen’s accusation, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar described the Haqqani as once being the “blue eyed boy of the CIA itself for many years.”  According to Eric Margolis, an expert on foreign affairs and an internationally syndicated commentator, the U.S. also had a hand in training and funding Haqqani along with Al Qaeda in the 80’s.

See the pattern emerging?

The U.S., in an effort to wage war with one enemy, funds and trains a local militia group with the hopes that they will fight on our side.  Much of this is done in secret and hardly reported.  Eventually that same group uses its newly acquired weaponry and know how to expand its own power and influence.  When this comes in conflict with our own foreign objectives, the end result is trillions of taxpayer money wasted and the massive loss of life.  What’s mind boggling is how such blowback could easily be avoided.

Still our elected leaders in Washington continue to pound the war drums without any regard for history.  Like dreaming of water flowing uphill, Congress really does believe America can continue its “policeman of the world” role and not stoke the flames of resentment abroad while squandering massive amounts of resources toward destruction rather than productive means.  Remember, the school yard bully is always resented as much as he is obeyed when convenient.

As Mark Twain once eluded, “history doesn’t repeats itself, at best it sometimes rhymes.”  Like the WMD propaganda that proceeded Iraq, expect more warnings from Washington to check your closet for threats that are thousands of miles away.  Haqqani may very well be a terrorist organization but more information is needed to determine if they are a viable threat to the U.S. before charging the next generation another trillion dollars to chase another boogeyman.  All empires unravel with continual military conquest; America will be no different if apathy is our only response to scare mongering.

To all of you trushing the USA; Every organization rots sooner or later; give me a name and I will give you a rot; Governments, Religions, Cherities.... USA gave the world a reasonable peace for over 65 years; If you think Russia or China would give you Haven on earch think again, or if your own goverment (whatever it is) would take care of you think even harder. Times are changing and USA is not and will not be what it used to be. Putin and Mao are coming and when they come than you will feel and understand the difference. Can you spell GULAG? Countries like Germany, Japan, N. Korea, Vietnam, Italy..... understood the difference. Other countries did not.... Now it is over and if you hate USA think what is going to happen when China and Russia come and they will....

The monster has no specific appearance, and conceptions about it can vary drastically from household to household within the same community, in many cases, he has no set appearance in the mind of an adult or child, but is simply a non-specific embodiment of terror. Thanks a lot.

... and today Hillary lectured the world on how DANGEROUS Iran is - I think the story line was something about an Iranian car sales man who wanted to blow up some major US assets...

poor little usa... isn't it terrible how these evil people everywhere hate the sweet and kind us'ians...  - even after the noble Nobel Peace Price Prince has sought more diligently than his predecessor to pre-empt evil thinkers' evil wishes, by having more killer drones - 6000 plus this moment - patrolling the world and assassinating potential enemies of the US  corporate agenda & Federation... and CIA is doing their best, killing and what not - and still, these foreigners don't understand our good intentions, that we're just trying to clean up the world out there ....

you make an excellent point.  that arkancide website is fairly attention getting.  and i thought the republicans were the globetrotters to the dems washington generals.  some of these deaths would have seemingly made, at least, inflammatory articles of impeachment or debates about same.  maybe it's more like professional wrestling and they take turns winning and losing but the promoters are the same people.  travel together to the hick town then enter from opposite sides.

Public relations representatives must have excellent writing skills because they are called upon to draft press releases, talking points, annual reports, newsletters, blog posts, speeches and other organization communications. Like journalists, public relations representatives often must meet tight deadlines while juggling multiple writing assignments. Thanks for sharing.

The US is the most brutal mafia the world has ever known. Why do people think that someone can get involved with such an organization, rise to the top of it, and then turn it in to a force for good?

Governments are about brutal power and control. No government is a force for good. Only idiots who live on the dole are blinded enough to imagine that they are.

Try to infiltrate your local MS-13 gang. Then work your way up to the top level, and get the homies to pass out blankets and turkeys on thanksgiving in the hood.

It's the same childish fantasy as Ron Paul turning this foreign corporate controlled mafia in to the fairy tale republic that it never ever was.

Even George Washington didn't take an article 6 oath.

We're still under marshal law from the Lincoln presidency. (He signed exec order #1. #2 reconveined congress under the corporate constitution)

Voting is a waste of time. Why line up to cast a vote for the figure head of the mafia?

I thought we might get to enjoy the excitement of Iran being the enemy for a little while.

As we all know, little countries like starting wars with big countries so that the little countries can have the shit beaten out of them and the local tin-pot can be dropped in a noose.  Just ask Saddam.

Now Iran is so obsessed with the Saudis (who I suspect already have enough to fear in Saudi Arabia) that they come to American turf with the intent of hiring Mexicans to off some self-important members of the powers that were (PTW, not PTB).

Can't we enjoy this straight to DVD production before the next one is introduced?

The most amazing thing is just how this government can come up with some of the most illogical absurdities to serve as story lines for their "terrorist plots". They simply don't make any sense, if the terrorists were smart they certainly wouldn't choose to carry out a plot in the way this government asserts. It proves, I suppose, that the American people are far more gullible than I would like to believe and that this government is far more illegitimate than I fear.

Saddam , Bin Laden and now Haqqani. All were the right handed pawns of CIA till needed and dumped later, only to be discovered that they were not the ordinary dump. Haqqani even has photopgraphs with Reagan. Pakistan is being made the second Cambodia, as dring Vietmnam withdrawal , Cambodia was blamed by Nixon and Kissinger for war losses. The good thing is Pakistani's don't buy it.

In Pakistan a common joke these days is that 500 to 1000 so called Haqqani fighters have scared the shit out of U.S, so much for their military might. War on Terror has some logical imperfections: terrorist attack can't be a threat to a country or nation because it targets only few people and the system is designed to be totally immune against such a loss.

The "national security" argument is logically inconsistent. The whole Japan Empire could not seriously threaten people living in USA, so how should a few people, with some explosives and hand-guns, seriously impact live of 300mln people?

Much more people are dying because of tobacco, car accidents, flight accidents, medical errors and so on.

Being afraid of dying because of terrorist attack is a case for mental treatment.

United States War Business Plan

1) Control the World by a) supporting any group that furthers the US goal of installing compliant dictators/leaders

and call them democracies.

b) Label dissidents in these countries where compliant dictators/leaders are installed as terrorists.  Supply money to crush dissidents.

c) When dictators become useless or need replacement start funding the dissidents that once were enemy terrorists.

All the while tell Americans that the "terrorist group of the day" is evil and will attack them any minute.

All the while have a continuous market for selling war materials.

WAKE UP AMERICANS.  The whole war on Terror is a creation of the Defence Industry with cooperation from the US Government.

funny that you mention this boogeyman ? - a couple years back i was traveling through new england and stayed a week at an indian[?] owned motel/hotel - what was surprising to me, or better said astonishing,... that the four [4] story complex was fully occupied by pakistan military flight personnel, ie. pilots for f-16 / f-18's - they were bused in an out once a day - went directly to their rooms for consultation and spoke to know one - i myself found it of extremely curious, thus spoke directly to the indian  owner[proprietor] about his unique guest - his response was a shrugged off nervous laugh [taken off guard?] and that the clientele guest were a big makeup of his occupancy for quite awhile -

the plot thickens -

the foreign aide the u.s. gives to pakistan is mainly military apparatus, ie. fighter jets, guns, and ammo - oh,... and some butter [let us not forget the butter] -

bottom line: balochistan, pakistan [44% of pakistan's total land mass] is the countries province known as no-man's land [a surreal funky kind-of equivalent to the u.s. border with mexico's drug trade?] - rare earth elements [ree] are mega abundant on the surface of a dirt-rich mega-colossus geography - centuries in years, waiting for their time to shine,... once [?] considered a waste land -

sorry world -

it's the creme de`la creme of prime real estate for the 21st century; [ref. "pegmatic rock"] - saindak/ reko diq/ lasbella, balochistan are small cities within this humongous ungovernable province, where ree's pave the dusty paths of would be terrorist trails  [especially that nasty one-eyed monster down by the sea shore?] not so long ago?
