Apparently, both aviators in the helicopter survived and are facing charges. This was posted on LiveLeak yesterday. According to the LiveLeak post, this maneuver is known as "return to target." Unfortunately for the pilot, he/she didn't maintain altitude.

Keep the dirty side down, don't fly at night, don't fly in clouds, don't touch any of the red guarded switches and don't do RTT hammerhead maneuvers in high altitude low air density environments.

This is almost exactly what happened to the other battalion (not mine thankfully) in Germany. OH-58, Army pilot, Air Force jet pilot in the second seat for some reason. Makes a pass over a line of HEMTTs idling. Does the RTT, comes back, doesn't get enough altitude, smacks the HEMTT (right in front of the one my friend is driving) in the engine right behind the cab. Cockpit with pilots goes over the HEMTT, helicopter engine goes to the left in the direction the trucks are pointed. A blade peels back part of the HEMTT cab's top like you would roll up a piece of paper. There is about a squad worth of troops on the other side of the HEMTT, amazingly not one of them got hurt. The driver of the HEMTT that got hit, freaks out and runs. The HEMTT was in gear and being an automatic starts creeping forward until it hits the one in front of it. No fire. My friend jumps out of her truck and runs up and put the bailed one in park. Nobody died, both pilots pretty mangled though. The grapevine said that the Air Force was pissed.
