Here Come The Greek (Re)Elections

Tyler Durden's picture

Update: confirming what we already know:

  • GREEK PRESIDENCY SPOKESMAN SAYS NO DEAL ON GOVERNMENT, GOING TO ELECTIONS
  • GREEK CARETAKER GOVERNMENT WILL BE APPOINTED TOMORROW

Wonder why the EURUSD is suddenly sliding? Here's why:

  • GREEK ANTI-BAILOUT CONSERVATIVE KAMMENOS SAYS THERE IS NO DEAL ON GOVERNMENT -BBG
  • KAMMENOS SAYS "THEY PREFER CREDITORS TO NATIONAL SOLUTION"
  • KAMMENOS SAYS NEW ELECTIONS WILL BE HELD

Which means Syriza will win the June re-elections, likely with a strong majority, and what happens then is anyone's guess.

Syriza needs to win to finally drive the stake into the two parties that are responsible for the political and economic mismanagement of Greece for the last thirty years.

Time for the new kids on the block to be given the benefit of the doubt and if there are any decent politicians in those dinosaur parties they should go across to SYRIZA and get the country going.

If they do this the Europeans will get the message straight and clear and then let's see who bolts next from the loving embrace of Europa.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caretaker_government

Caretaker government is a type of government that rules temporarily. A caretaker government is often set up following a war until stable democratic rule can be restored, or installed, in which case it is often referred to as a provisional government. In some countries (including Australia and New Zealand) the term is used to describe the government that operates in the interim period between the normal dissolution of parliament for the purpose of holding an election and the formation of a new government after the election results are known

Caretaker governments are expected to handle daily issues and prepare budgets for discussion, but are not expected to produce a government platform or introduce controversial bills.

why the hell not?  can't be any worse than shit we're standing in.

(Reuters) - Greece's president will ask politicians on Tuesday to stand aside and let a government of technocrats steer the nation away from bankruptcy, but leftists have already rejected the proposal and look set to force a new election they reckon they can win.

THE HEAVENS OPENED UP !!!!

Just a few months ago I was praying for someone I could believe in to show up on the Greek political scene and like a light from heaven he emerged.   This man is not like the others, I can only compare him to a Greek Ron Paul.  He has integirty, he is honest and loaths the global Banking cartel.   He gave 7 demands which needed to be met in order to agree to create a government and to my joy and SURPRISE, one of the demands was for a return of the shares of the Bank of Greece to the greek people.   At the moment 90% of the shares of our central bank belong to individuals (I wonder who?) and many non-greek.  He demands the return of the shares to the greek people or government.   For him to come up out of no where, to create a party, to win 10% in just two months is quite amazing.  But for him to stand up and try to reclaim our central bank (like ron paul's end the fed) totally blows my mind and I would have never believed I would live to see the day where I would have the honor to vote for a man with such huge testicles.   In the video below, if you know greek, it is condition 2       http://www.ert.gr/DRASTHRIOTHTA-KOMMATW%CE%9D/item/11951-Epta-oroys-thetei-o-Kammenos-gia-symmetochh-sthn-kybernhsh

The day after Kammenos went on national tv and said he was going after the central bank, the media along with her whore political parties and the so-called President of Greece tried to drag his name in the mud with what essentially was a non-story.

It's sad that some Greeks will believe this obvious hack job. I hope more Greeks get angry at this provocation and punish them!

So Greeks to go back to the ballot box eh?

It’s a straightforward play.

PASOK/ND will campaign on a platform of this now being a vote on exit from the Euro - and probably pick up some money on the QT from various interested parties in Europe to help fully fund the PR campaign (don’t tell me it’s illegal and therefore doesn’t happen per-lease).

They will be fully backed up by a number of elected and non-elected European politicians making lots of public noise for the Greek newspapers that if they don’t vote the right way this time they will be leaving the Euro and facing total ruin and disaster and all their children will die within six weeks and there will be a great pestilence on the land, etc.

The Greek electorate will be bombarded with this PR in the period leading up to the next round of voting and they don’t stand a chance. Not a hope. There will probably also be some dirty tricks on the main threats to the desired outcome too. Maybe a couple of harmless bombs will also go off that will be somehow linked back to anti-bailout parties and lots of noise about them causing violence and civil war if they win.

It’s all so pathetically predictable.

PASOK/ND will pick up just enough votes to form a majority of a small handful and it’s back to business as usual. Boom, boom (or should that be bust, bust?).

Don’tcha just love democracy? It’s so easily subverted.

p.s. You can buy 10yr Greek bonds today for less than 15. Yield now 29.7% - fill yer boots.

Tue, 05/15/2012 - 15:00 | 2428382 nicxios
nicxios's picture

You're right on the money about the tactics. They are already doing this. But I believe it will boomerang on them. The people they are able to terrorize are mostly the 55 and over crowd. In fact that's where ND/PASOK got their best results in last election.

The young people are rejecting both of them, again.

As for eveyone else, more and more people are becoming aware of the scam. Not only will they not be convinced, it will strengthen their conviction that they are being bullshited to. ND and Pasok are despised, and everyday they become more despised. Boomerang, and Syriza will benefit.

Polls are showing Syriza in first at ~ 20%. I think they will hit 25%, just a hunch.

Personally I hope Kammenos and Independent Greeks benefit as well. Anytime someone insists he is going after the central bank of thieves, has written it down as one of the 7 non-negotiable demands of his platform, I'm with them!

Here's how they should do the next round of elections....

All those in support of continuance of EU, drop a Euro in the ballot box.  Those not in support, drop a drachma.

Not only will the people have spoken, they may pay off their debt as well...well, some part of it...or use it to start afresh...

This is the EU in action and its a wonderful sight.

Basically the Greeks get a second chance to vote on whether the German tax payers

get to pick up the bill for Greek financial incompetance and profligacy.

I WONDER WHAT THE OUTCOME WILL BE ?
