Infographic On The Greatest Gun Salesman In America: President Obama

Tyler Durden's picture

American firearm sales and concealed handgun permit applications are at all-time highs since the 2008 election of President Barack Obama. President Obama's perceived hostility towards gun owners has been one of the key factors behind the multi-year financial boom the firearms industry continues to enjoy. In fact, the National Rifle Association (NRA) is actively preparing to work to defeat President Obama's 2012 re-election campaign, according to Wayne LaPierre, the CEO of the NRA, who recently said the following at the 2012 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C.:

"Lip service to gun owners is just part of a massive Obama conspiracy to deceive voters and hide his true intentions to destroy the Second Amendment during his second term. We see the president's strategy crystal clear: Get re-elected and, with no more elections to worry about, get busy dismantling and destroying our firearms' freedom, erase the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights and excise it from the U.S. Constitution...When the sun goes down on election day Barack Obama will have America’s gun owners to thank for his defeat.” -

Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the NRA, February 10th, 2012

Ironically, the perceived hostility towards gun owners by President Obama has actually helped the firearms industry tremendously. Since the 2008 election, more Americans than ever before are purchasing firearms & ammunition. This has meant massive increases in sales by firearm & ammunition makers, billions more in federal and state tax collections related to guns & ammo, increased membership in the NRA, and hundreds of thousands of new Americans carrying concealed handguns.  Therefore, should the firearms industry support President Obama for a second term or not?

As for why this may be the case, perhaps it has something to do with the death of the legal system under the current president, very much like Greece, and Robogate killed contract law.

Are ever more Americans simply preparing to take "the law" into their own hands?

A simple misunderstanding, I believe.  My reference to baracknophobia was intended to make a comparison to the movie where a bunch of venemous, deadly insects invades the U.S.  I believe Calm saw it as a defense of Barack, ie an irrational fear of him.  Nothing could be further from the truth. A small scuffle ensued, but no harm done.  At least on my end.

I do enjoy this place..

All we need to know is that this government took "linebacker" a Bush era program to track guns into Mexico and transformed it into Fast and furious where straw buyers were implictly encouraged to purchase guns here and bring them to Mexico and arm the cartels.  MOST IMPORTANTLY, the individual honorable street agents were forbidden by their superiors from tracking these guns.  One of these guns was found at the mujrder site of federal Agent Brian Terry (whose family filed suit for 25M) and these street agents blew the whistle on their higher ups at risk or their lives, freedom and careers. These agents are still paying the price for their bravery.

Memo's released as a result of the Darrell Issa investigation and exemplary work done by Mike Vanderbough and David Codrea of respectively Sipsey street irregulars blog and show this entoire operation as a plate setting exercise for the final course of restricting the 2nd amendment.

All of you, do the research, hell log onto sipsey street Mike has done all of it already..

Ha, I really like this place.  No harm, no foul CB

"I do enjoy this place.."

As do I.

A little something on some cat named El Jaguar ;-)

"Torres Marrufo, also known as "the Jaguar," has been identified by U.S. authorities as the enforcer for Sinaloa cartel chieftain Joaquin "Chapo" Guzman. The Fast and Furious weapons were found at one of Torres Marrufo's homes April 30 when Mexican police inspected the property. It was unoccupied but "showed signs of recent activity," they said.

The basement had been converted into a gym with a wall covered with built-in mirrors. Behind the mirrors they found a hidden room with the Fast and Furious weapons and dozens more, including an antiaircraft machine gun, a sniper rifle and a grenade launcher.

"We have seized the most important cache of weapons in the history of Ciudad Juarez," Chihuahua state Gov. Cesar Duarte said at the time, though he did not know that many of the weapons came from the U.S. and Fast and Furious.

Torres Marrufo has been indicted in El Paso, but authorities have been unable to locate and arrest him."

The Sinaloa cartel, buying guns from Mom & Pop gun stores along the Mexican border is, I believe what we were told at the time what the problem was.

It wasn't, as I said at that time...Mom & Pop gun stores along the Mexican border don't sell grenade launchers and anti aircraft guns.

Hard to read to him when every other word that comes out of his mouth is a lie.

But I don't think so.

What he really wanted (IMHO) was for Fast & Furious to work out, to where public opinion might be shifted against gun possession/ownership and people would voluntarily disarm or make the process so onerous many would take their chances dialing 911.

Of course, now they are trapped in that whole mountain of bullshit (F&F) of their own making so public opinion will stay right where it is.

That is, no trust in anything they say.

I am not a cocksucker attorney, but as far as I know there is nothing to prevent you from selling your firearms to strangers at a yard sale.  Although you need not keep a record of these sales, you may want to keep a copy of the yardsale advertisment from your local newspaper that clearly says, "Gold coins, guns, books, etc."

California-based ZH-ers should ignore this advice. Unless the seller has a valid COE (Certificate of Eligibility), and the buyer provides all the personal information required by the DROS (Dealer Record of Sale), the transfer is illegal. Tranfers from private party to private party (e.g. your yard sale example) require that a licensed dealer act as itermediary. He or she will fill out all the forms for the buyer and seller, as well as hold the gun for the required ten day waiting period. Only then does the buyer get his gun. Unless it's a handgun, in which case the buyer must also pass the test for the Handgun Safety Certificate first.

I think the buyer has to do some more paperwork within 30 days and send it in to the DOJ, but you get the idea. It's complicated. I remember an episode of the Simpsons where Homer is trying to buy a handgun, and the salesman informs him of the 10-day waiting period, and Homer says, (read this in your best Homer Simpson whine) "But I'm angry now."

while you do not need to keep a record of private sale for the sake of the law, if your weapon is used in a shooting of any sort, you need to provide a documentation of chain of custody of the weapon....fact

so, you had better keep a personal record of transactions just in case

Go ahead - be the first across the minefield.

Strategically however the best option right now is to respond just like you are being violently raped by a larger and stronger attacker. Because you are. Your goal in that scenario is to endure what is happening and survive, all the while looking for options to escape or turn the tables on your attacker. Enduring is not surrendering, and the harder choice, since you CAN'T go into mental lala land. You HAVE to stay conscious and aware of what is going on.

Fighting a battle when you can't obtain victory makes no sense, since nothing is static. There are always moments when victory is attainable, and it does no good to tip your hand before the moment can arrive.

Ever wonder why everything always erupts at once? It's because there needs to be a critical mass of people who are aware they are being victimized before a spark can put them into motion. In any honest assessment, are there enough out there who realize what is going on?

Endure my brothers.

That is a GREAT song and video by Australian Steve Lee you link there ... some of the lyrics

« I like guns, I like the way they look
I like the shiny steel and the polished wood

I don't care if they're big or small
If they're for sale, Hell, I want 'em all ...

I ain't gonna shoot anyone
And no one shoots at me, 'cuz I got a gun ...

God made the animals, God made the trees,
God made you, Hell, He even made me

God gave me this voice, so I could be a singer
So you tell me why I got a trigger finger! »

* * *

Note to Americans: Surprise! We actually have lots of private civilian guns in Europe.

Germany: 25 million civilian privately owned handguns, shotguns, rifles.
France: 19 million civilian privately owned handguns, shotguns, rifles.
And so on.

We do not carry them around, or have as high gun ownership rates as in the US, but 100 million plus private guns in Europe is definitely significant.

Yes, the crazy UK Brit government that confiscated all privately owned handguns in the 1990s - But the Brit regime has crazy moments indeed. It is not like that on the Continent. Here we know the Nazis can come back, they were here before. Guns stay in European people's hands and homes.

Facts of gun ownership and policies in countries around the world:

A simple question and red, wtf.  Brussels (whose commentary I enjoy) ought to tell us that virtually all private arms are kept at shooting ranges (locked up) in Europe and there are virtually no militarily significant weapons among those allowed to be owned, except Switzerland.   If you think your shotgun is in most cases militarily significant lets pace off 500 meters between us and have a match, you shotty, me .308..

It would seem, an armed society really is a polite society.

Well, I'm not so sure about that. Let's think back a little bit to the 2008 period. People were scared shitless at that point. We were in the middle of what could have been a total collapse of the US (and possibly the world) financial system. I think people are still frightened of the possibility. And while some of this increase can certainly be attributed to the fear of an Obama presidency, I have a hard time attributing it entirely to his election. I think it's just a real-world expression of general fear. People are scared that the socio-economic system is going to collapse and they'll be left to fend for themselves. It's a concern for me, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

I remember walking by the gun department at a local department store the week after the election.  I noticed that there were a whole bunch of empty shelves.  I asked the clerk what was going on and she said that after the election the week before, they had sold out of all ammo, and as soon as they got more in, it instantly sold out.

I shook my head and thought about those foolish right wing kooks.  I voted for Obama and I knew he was going to bring about change and make things much better.  I went away seriously worried about tea partiers and right wingers starting a revolution and ruining this great country.

You think the same, or have you seen the results( or lack therof).

Tea Party, and Right Wingers are the backbone of this country, the small business folks, and blue collars, the farmers, the construction people, mostly from the Red states, and many from the Blue.

Have another question I would have liked to ask WHY was the Catholic Church singled out on this?

vato poco's picture

Yeah, Glocks *are* awesome, especially if you're talking about reliability & simplicity. They break down into..what...3 whole parts for cleaning, and you just can't get 'em to jam, no matter how much you neglect/abuse them. They're the AK's of handguns. Fine weapons....but they have a fatal flaw.

No safety. So if you want to carry the gun hot, you'd better have your shit together. At this point, I fully expect all the Internet Tough Guys and "Ex- SEALS" to chime in about how a fully-focused Warrior never lets his guard down or his attention stray _for even a second_; "Booger Hook off the Bang Switch"; all that macho bullshit. But the world ain't full of SEALs or Recon Marines - it's full of regular guys & gals. People who aren't perfect, who sometimes forget about the dangers & responsibilities of carrying a hot weapon.

Guys like Plaxico Burress. NFL stud who went out clubbing, had a Glock in the waistband because a)gotsa be lookin badass and b)gotsa be ready whe the Heavy Shit be comin' down, and c) the legitimate reason: rich celebrities are sometimes targets of Bad Guys. So he's out on the floor, shaking the old Groove Thing, Impressing the Bitches, and....the gun starts sliding down his (warmup) pants, down his leg, headed for the floor. Since possession of a handgun in NYC is a crime worse than 'swindling billions from millions of investors', say (especially when you compare prosecution rates and incarceration guidelines)....he naturally panics and grabs for the gun. By the trigger. Whereupon he shoots himself in the leg.

Result? 2 years in prison that *would not have happened* if he'd been carrying a Ruger or a Berretta or anything else with a safety on it. Hell, a frickin' FIRESTAR - the laughably uncool & nerdy weapon of choice of "Heat"'s superscumbag, Waingro, would have saved his ass/leg that night. Bad rep, kinda mostly useless, just like Waingro - but there would have been no self-inflicted shot fired that night at the muhhhfuhhhn disco. Nobody would have known a thing.

I think it's best to play the numbers here. Probable odds of winning a gunfight because you had a hot Glock that you didn't have to waste time disengaging a safety: 10 Million to 1, more or less? Probable odds of carrying a hot gun and never once accidentally shooting yourself or someone else because you have a safety? Much better. MUCH better. Sure Glocks are sexier. Comparing Glocks to old-dude guns like Ruger or Berretta is like comparing a Vette to a minivan. One's much cooler than the other. But they both have to follow certain restrictuive Rules which tend to negate much of the Sexiness Factor; both will get you where you want to be at pretty much the same time; and one's *much better* from an insurance standpoint. (and if you want sexy and have the scratch, there's always the safety-included HK. Totally bitchin' AND safe. What a concept.) For the last word, let's look at recent military rifles. Am not a soldier and have never been but I'm pretty sure the M-16 and M-4 have a safety switch, and I know the AK does. Listen to the pros, gang: Glock Schmock.

Mon, 02/20/2012 - 22:24 | 2179517 Bendromeda Strain
Bendromeda Strain's picture

'Bout a long winded fellow, aint ya? Like I said, I *was* a Walther guy, because if a person wanted the ease and reliability of a Glock, but maybe wanted a double action decocker, the P99 AS (anti stress) lets you run hot or backed off into a long pull DA that feels like a revolver. I like it a lot. A quick tug on the slide and you are in Glock mode - punch the decocker and you can drop kick the thing like an all day doorstop. The P99 also comes in a QA (quick action) Glock clone model, but why bother - it's unsafe.

Plexico Burris deserved every second in Hotel Bloomberg for being an idiot.

Bought my almost-teenage son his first shotgun for his B-Day. The wife is trying to convince me of what a good investment lead is. I must be doing something right.

Lead is not as good as copper and brass as an investment. Due to stringent recycling requirements for lead, nearly 100% of U.S. demand for lead is covered by the effort. Thus, price is not as affected by geo-political factors.

Just finished it last week. Next up is Crossing the Rubicon or The Long Emergency. Both are sitting on my shelf. Any suggestions as to which one to crack open 1st?
