Interactive Mapping Of 2011's Key (And Not So Key) Events

Tyler Durden's picture

The folks at mapsofworld.com have been kind enough to compile a list of the top events of 2011 broken down by country, coupled with a fully interactive drill down. Furthermore, they have compiled a list of the top 5 events of 2011 based on popular voting (open to anyone). We were surprised (or maybe not) to find that while in our little microcosm we focus on the nuances of the financial world, and occasionally branch out into its nexus of geopolitics, people in the real world appear to have a whole different set of priorities. Confirming this is the fact that 3 of the top 5 most important events are i) the recognition of LGBT rights by the UN; ii) the launch of Google Plus and iii) the 100th anniversary of the IBM - three developments that have received precisely zero coverage on Zero Hedge. At least the top two events are somewhat relevant to both the world and our readers, namely the Tunisian Revolution aka the Arab Spring, and the Japan Earthquake. Oddly enough such earthshaking events as the loss of the US' AAA rating (which as documented here before led to the terminal break of the stock market), is barely in the top 5, while the "Greek Crisis" and the aftermath that is the European insolvency crisis, whose escalation in our humble opinion was the event of 2011, is relevant to exactly... nobody. And there you have this nation's priorities in a nutshell.

Well, if the death of ELizabeth Taylor counts as an event significant enough to show up, what else have they forgotten?

And we'll be seeing lot's of echoes this coming year. There is no turning this titanic around unless it is by some massive, global awakening. Is that likely? Hardly.

Hey, well, today is Saviour day, eh? Interesting too to see how close the hot spots are to each other. THe other ring of fire in the ME. Spark.....spark.....spark....

Oh I've got this one!!$!$ That the press, hell anyone, would care that Jimmy Carter sent a condolence letter to pin dick xion iL's family or country or whatever the hell they call a cOuntry where darkness is a way of life... Literally. Give me Ron Paul who actually would have never gotten into that illegal war. Come the revolution friends. Come the revolution. Merry Christmas and good nIght.

well shit, we've got LGBT at all levels of entertainment and in positions of political power...so of course, their demand to ram degeneracy down the throats of everyone and destroy any and all morals and cultural restraint will proceed until they are shoved back into the fucking closet.  Really, it's as simple as that.

It's highly interesting to see the nexus of nomad desert war tribe with homosexuality and marxism...sort of like unholiness cubed.

Of course ANYONE who calls for any kind of revolution is a nazi/bigot/homophobe/neanderthal/RAYCISS

15,000,000,000,000+ trillion in debt

And everyone keeps buying Treasuries, where no price is high enough.

U.S. Government and Muni-Bond debt will go down as the most spectacular bubble of all, when you think of the trillions of dollars already invested in that group.

If just 5% of that money leaves and goes into stocks, we'll be at new highs in no time.

I do not know where else to pop this in but this article seems as good a place as any:

Ed Roman, guitar maker 'to the stars' died on the 14th. Ed was first a friend but to the rest of the world the owner of "The World's Largest Guitar Store". Ed was a creative mind always dreaming up new ways to layout 6 strings and no design was too outrageous. He took great pride in the craftmanship that came out of his shop and  offered shapes and woods that no one else did. He was often suing or being sued by Gibson or someone else (never a dull moment around Ed) and he hated mass production and flaws in guitars that were not corrected by the giants just because they could keep making those mistakes because they were big. Any ZHers who dig guitars would enjoy the thousands of pages on Ed's website. It is a stunning collection of guitars, rants and photos of Ed and his many clients and friends. Ed loved guns too. He was a patriot who did not trust the government one bit.

Liz Taylor died too but Ed was still a work in progress.

The rise of IBM wasn't an unalloyed good.  Like many US companies, they fell all over themselves to work with a rising progressive government led by a vegetarian teetotaler, who just happened to be a murderous psychopath.  Their punch cards were a brilliant solution, devised by the Germans, for tracking census data, which later was expanded to include ethnicity.  http://www.ibmandtheholocaust.com/excerpts.php

"Barry Soetoro murders USA citizen, not a peep from media. Barry Soetoro will soon sign the NDAA and SOPA and complete the enslavement of his peasants without even a bit of rebellion."

The rebellion is up to US!...right here, right now. We are the ones that are awake. How bad are we waiting for things to get? Whats it gonna take to finally mobilize and fight to take our country back? Is it because we have jobs, families, and the illusion of a little bit of security at the moment that we stand by and watch them dismantle our country? Those things are gone anyway if we do nothing. Like it or not, The things most important to us are the things we must be willing to sacrifice if we are to fight for what this country is suppossed to be. God says that in the final days he will send a strong spirit of deception over the land, and that is plain to see in our country right now.   As misguided as OWS is, at least they are doing something. We arent. We have food, guns, ammo, money, and alot more support  just waiting in the shadows,  lots frustrated people who feel angry yet powerless to do anything, hoping that something will happen soon to bring this corrupt system down. Its entirely our fault if things are allowed to continue. We are the resistance. We can only lose if we let them pick us off one by one, and that is their plan.

DEUS EX MACHINA

With most of the world’s major economies as well as the financial system bankrupt, there is only one solution that can save the world economy. Like in the Greek tragedies, Deus ex Machina is now the only way that the world can avoid a total economic collapse. This would involve God being lowered down onto the world stage and miraculously saving the plot.

For those few who believe in this, may God bless them. But since this is a very unlikely solution most people will instead rely on governments and central banks to save us. But how can anyone possibly believe that totally incompetent and clueless politicians and central bankers could solve anything. They created the problem in the first place and are therefore totally unsuitable to play the role of Deus. The main objective of governments is to stay in power and thus to buy votes. Therefore they are incapable of taking the right decisions. And the opposition, aspiring to power is even less suitable since they will lie through their teeth and promise the earth in order to be elected. (We know that there are exceptions like Ron Paul, but the voters will most probably find his medicine too strong to swallow.)

The death of the Kyoto protocol. The victory of Sea Shepherd grounding the Nipponese whaling fleet. Fukushima. Electric cars hitting real production markets. Trouble in the Falklands again. The Northwest passage opening up. Oil fueling both as well as Tar sands. The great silver corner by JPM. Gold and Silver levels and crazy FX flight to safety. Sectarian violence and political turmoil in Iraq escalated within days of the United States military’s withdrawal, but officials said in interviews that President Obama had no intention of sending troops back into the country, even if it devolved into civil war.

The United States, without troops on the ground or any direct influence over Iraq’s affairs, has lost much of its leverage there. And so the latest crisis, a descent into sectarian distrust and hostility that was punctuated by a bombing in Baghdad on Thursday that killed more than 60 people, is being treated in much the same way that the United States would treat any diplomatic emergency abroad.
