iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4S - First Look

Tyler Durden's picture

If this is what 0.3-0.6% of US GDP (according to JPMorgan) looks like, then the US is truly in desperate need of not only QE3, but 4, 4S and 5. Also, since it is not on the front, we can only assume the "Samsung Inside!" sticker is on the back.

This is a highly symbolic tangible product that represents the rapidly declining nature of the state AND trend of your economy and society (interwoven), Amerika.

Kim Kardashian, Snooky & the new iPhone are the dominant topics of the day. Brain rot has reached an all-time high.

This is not an Apple-specific criticism, as it can be made of any popular product that is the "latest & greatest" must have accessory for Amerikans (which Apple just so happens to produce currently), even if it's of little to no additional utility, productivity or meaningfulness compared to its predecessor (or competitors, or in general):

A cell phone, used to talk, text, surf and download "apps," mostly of the hollow and devoid-of-real-value kind, designed by a relatively small cadre of U.S. employees in California, built by a large cadre of Chinese employees at Foxconn (for low wages even by emerging market standards), and with future versions to be built by automated equipment, is now the literal core center of any real standard bearer representating the ability of the U.S. economy as a whole to produce (even though production takes place in China) a tangible, halo product, that's of marginal real benefit to society, whether measured against competing smart phones, or in isolation.

Is it any wonder why the crises beseiging the American economy, social order, political system & culture are highly unlikely to be addressed before it's too late (if it's already not too late)?

It depends on the technology.

Smaller is not necessarily always better either.

A hand-held phone can be too small and hard to use.

Plus, the screen is enlarged for a better viewing aspect ratio.

It's a superb design.

Remember all the talk of national ids after 9/11 and RFID chips in passports or drivers licenses. What if TPTB realized they could get the masses not only to accept something that had the same properties as a national id, but they could even get them to want it and feel they couldn’t live without it, and just for fun even get them to pay monthly for the privilege of having it? What if they packaged that something with all kinds of useful tools and must have applications? What if it made your life easier, you had the internet at the tip of your fingers at all times where you could access vital (and not so vital) information. What if it was tied into your bank account and you could make purchases with it, text your friends, access your email, entertain you, take a photo, record a video, keep you connected to social media where you were encouraged to expose every inane detail of your life to your “friends”? What if all those perks made the something so valuable to you and so ingrained in your psyche that if you ever left home without it, you would feel like something was missing, you would feel disconnected? What if you thought everything you did on this something was private but in reality the makers of these somethings  and the servicers of these somethings were cooperating with TPTB to make all of the data stored on them accessible to the authorities? What if that something tracks everything fucking thing you do, not just where you are and where you’ve been?  What if that was the real purpose of the something, buried under all those perks?  What if all that information being gathered was used for purposes of control and prosecution? What if it gets worse?

Apple is a PR & marketing shop. Secondarily a design shop.  Their "innovation" is hyped myth by Marketing, even going all the way back to the original Apple GUI (which Xerox didn`t have much use for at the time, and couldn`t figure out how to effectively monetize).

Microsoft? Busy chasing away the corporate crowd from the M$ desktop OS using the metrosexual interface in 8. They decided what the desktop needed was a low res low color 8 bit imitation / retro look. Also they felt not enough workers needed training to use the OS, so they moved everything around and made it as difficult as possible to find anything.

Can't say I really understand why corporations embraced Microsoft, apart from herd behavior. They make the very worst crash-prone OSes, they're consistently behind when it comes to including device drivers and updates, their OSes are very prone to viruses (with anti-virus programs which are in-themselves viruses), and are completely opaque with respect to source code. Oh, and they have a built-in NSA back-door. (Here is the official denial) Their one accomplishment does seem to be in moving things around needlessly, exemplified by the introduction of the "ribbon" in their office 2007 applications. This is in contradistinction with Apple, which has long dictated "look and feel" though proprietary hardware, patents, and trademarks, managing to maintain consistency wrt the user interface.

It's all about keeping the NASDAQ from going down. 618 billion dollar market cap. Looks like a short to me as soon as Bernanke decides how crazy he's going to be tomorrow.

No, not yet - looking into the same thing myself - Rockwell's site had some recommendations a while back.  I'll start there and then check reviews.  Thanks for spreading.

No thanks to the iPhone clod who downvoted me.
