Iran Begins Straits of Hormuz Wargames

Tyler Durden's picture

As was reported yesterday, Iran has now officially commenced its 10 day wargame exercise in the Straits of Hormuz. What happens next is 10 days in which one false move, either planned or false flagged, can have some serious (if required by the status quo) consequences: after all WTI is at $100, and the ECB has quietly "printed" $700 billion in the past 6 months, with the Fed not far behind - there has to be some implicit backstop to keep crude from soaring once it becomes clear that print mode is on, and the only way that can happen is the "possibility" of expanded oil supply through control of the main supply channels. From Reuters: "Iran began 10 days of naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, raising concern about a possible closure of the world's most strategic oil transit channel in the event of any outbreak of military conflict between Tehran and the West. The military drill, dubbed "Velayat-e 90", comes as the tension between the West and Iran is escalating over the Islamic state's nuclear programme. Iranian authorities have given no indication the strait will be closed during the exercise, and it has not been shut during previous drills. "Displaying Iran's defensive and deterrent power as well as relaying a message of peace and friendship in the Strait of Hormuz and the free waters are the main objectives of the drill," Sayyari said. "It will also display the country's power to control the region as well as testing new missiles, torpedoes and weapons."

Some analysts and diplomats believe the Islamic Republic could try to block the strait in the event of any war with the West over suspicions it is seeking atom bombs. Iran's arch-foes Israel and the United States have not ruled out military action if diplomacy and sanctions fail to rein in Iran's nuclear work.

Iran says it wants nuclear energy only for peaceful ends.

"The enforcement of the decision to close of the Strait of Hormuz is certainly within Iran's armed forces' capability, but such a decision should be made by the country's top authorities," Iranian Navy commander Habibollah Sayyari was quoted as saying by the semi-official ILNA labour news agency.

Iran has said in the past that it would respond to any attack by targeting U.S. interests in the region and Israel, as well as closing the strait, the only access channel for eight U.S.-aligned, Gulf Arab states to foreign markets.

"Velayat" is a Persian word for "supremacy" and it is currently used as a title of deference for the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Those wishing to follow up to date developments on the wargames, and any potential surprises, can do so via the Press TV site.

Proof we are about to invade Iran:

US Judge Rules Iran Responsible for 9/11 Perplexing Ruling Also Claims Iran 'Provides Material Support' for al-Qaeda

A ruling issued today by Manhattan Judge George Daniels insists that Iran is “responsible for 9/11,” and that families of those slain during the 2001 terrorist attack can sue the Iranian government for compensatory and punitive damages.

We have completely lost all credibility in this country. If the American people accept this bullshit, we are lost forever.

that judgment is total garbage.  it was taken by default because Iran didn't even contest it.  So the judge basically accepted everything the plaintiffs alleged at face value, and rubber stamped it.  in short, totally worthless...    but you are correct, the ignorant masses will probably think this means something.

The American sheeple will buy this bullshit the same way they bought the WMD bullshit. Remember, before we invaded Iraq, most Americans believed Saddam was behind the 9/11 attacks.

A nation this stupid should have no weapons of any kind. Not even a fucking water pistol.

Most Americans did not think Sadaam was behind the attacks...a connection was made between Sadaam and Al Queda, however small, and that was the justification that was used to start the war:  basically, if you are friends with Al Queda, you are our enemy.  The WMD just made the whole thing juicier.  I'm not saying it was right or wrong and I'll keep my opinions to myself, but Americans as a group are not stupid, asshole, no matter how much you want to believe it.

Most Americans did not think Sadaam was behind the attacks...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A32862-2003Sep5

"Nearing the second anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, seven in 10 Americans continue to believe that Iraq's Saddam Hussein had a role in the attacks, even though the Bush administration and congressional investigators say they have no evidence of this.

"Sixty-nine percent of Americans said they thought it at least likely that Hussein was involved in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, according to the latest Washington Post poll. That impression, which exists despite the fact that the hijackers were mostly Saudi nationals acting for al Qaeda, is broadly shared by Democrats, Republicans and independents."

...but Americans as a group are not stupid, asshole, no matter how much you want to believe it.

Americans as a group are shockingly stupid and suggestible.  I'm afraid decades (generations) of deep submersion in mass media and government school programming has taken its toll.

That is exactly how the system works, the government (and big businesses) do it all the time when they want something ($).  An individual might be able to have the verdict vacated, especially if they weren't properly served, but if one doesn't show up to fight (even after the initial battle) then they inevitably lose the legal war.

when you see this story begin to get some traction, and the American idiots start believing that Iran was behind it, as they believed Iraq was behind it, then public support (or the perception thereof) around an invasion will be all our overlords need to start yet another war.

things dont change, I'm starting to believe.

"change" within an acceptable margin is all well and good for the status quo--but there willl not be change for the better;  we will chase fanciful thoughts of actual justice and freedom for as long as we live--but it'll be nothing more than pursuit.

The "reality" is that this is what we're stuck with and we're all waiting for some poor sap to be our martyr--to be our needed catalyst.  That, too, is a just an excuse.  We'll be marched to the slaughterhouse and all the while we'll be hoping for some "leader" to guide us to revolution.

And the irony is that anyone who tries to lead eventually finds that the sheople have distanced themselves from 'em.  We love our servitude.

Just so you know all know that I am not unfairly biased, andthat even though I am not a big fan of the current Iranian leadership, I am curious how a judge, with limited intelligence capablities can come to the conclusion that Iran was behind 9/11...I thought all of the world's leading intelligence services determined that Al Queda was behind 9/11 and that Al Queda was a terrorist organization with roots in radical Islam and had no national borders.  Can anybody give me a rationale explanation for this judges decision?  Is there one?

They can close the straits. SS-22 sunburn have the potential to get the job done. Those, subs, aircraft, small surface ships, mines, and other missiles are a credible threat event  to the US Navy.

US Navy has sufficient layered defense (SM2,ESSM Rolling Airframe Missile, chaff, jamming). It's going to come down to overwhelming defenses on the one hand, and degrading offensive capaility on th other. It won't bve a cake walk, but defeating hte Iranians there is do-able. So is heavy losses on the US side.

Le'ts hope none of this happens.

No man is an all-inclusive island resort unto his-self. Unless, I suppose he has four fingers of Makers Mark, a contraband Cohiba, a line-up of John Carpenter films and a can of low-sodium corned beef hash.

But the time for idle diversions is past, at least until we can collectively dislodge the societal hookworm that has been pulling the strings from some underground luxury compound in Switzerland. Or until we take the steps necessary to ascend above the ruinous behavior of one-upping our neighbors narcissistic displays of credit-driven ass-tardery, pimping rides, cheering on cruise-missle cams, supporting NASCAR and acting out Jackass:The Lifestyle volumes 1-3.

No, our children and grandchildrens futures are much too important to allow psychopathic charlatans to remain at the helm. Our paychecks, retirement accounts, educations and health care are taxed, rationed, pinched and stolen outright. The "Free Trade" Representatives (of corporations) in Congress have outlawed your ability to buy cheap pharmas from Canada because the industry needs to fund a mega-million dollar TV ad campaign to encourage you to ask your doctor if Bonerall is right for you. Secondary education costs have risen at rates exponentially higher than the rate of inflation and government goons have barred the possibility of default.

The unholy assholes orchestrating this modern holocaust of rights don't care that your job got offshored to Mumbai because Rajiv answers more inbound calls for a fraction of what you did. Or that Pa was the last factory worker in his city because China does it cheaper and doesn't have those environmental laws to contend with. Plus, they can utilize child labor, so why the fuck do we have workers protection laws? They're being skirted in a de facto sense and we're lapping it up like hood rats fighting over the new Air Jordans. We own a piece of this travesty and I'm not going to one day stand in front of Jesus or Yoda or Odin or an excitable Mr. Spacely and say I did nothing. Is it honestly more important to ride out this timeline and stand still for the fleecing?

This is the apex of somebody's effort in befouling everything that made Western Civilization fair and worthy. And let me tell you, it smells like a migrant day-laborer's lunch box. No, I'm not going to buy into the idea that TPTW (the Powers that Were) are almighty, impervious to hurt and cannot be struck down like a Limey at the Boxer Rebellion.

All that needs to be done is say no.

No, I will not use your new fiat currency which will inevitably replace the equally despicable Federal Reserve Note.

No, I do not fear anything in your arsenal; militarily, financial, political, personal or anything. The only power you have is to make me fear you or hate myself and I refuse.

No, I will not validate your electoral bukkake-party, unless Ron Paul is allowed fair and legitimate participation.

No, I do not self-identify as a consumer because fuck fast-food, fuck phone contracts and especially fuck the small business-destroying Wal-mart and its hideous Dr. Moraeu projects gone wrong, mistakenly called customers, who care shit-all about anything except everyday low prices and raising the standard for nauseating appearances.

In 2006, an Iranian UAV acquired and allegedly tracked the American aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan for 25 minutes without being detected before returning safely to its base.  Wikkipedia

The Iranians have the capacity to shut down the straits, and shanghai a U.S. carrier battle group operating too closely to the Gulf.  After the initial action, US fleet can stand off in Indian Ocean and wear down Iranian coastal defenses, missile batteries, and small craft, while suffering a loss or two to submarines.  The issue, however, is time.  It would take the USN many months, maybe a year or more, to fully clear the straights from an Iranian blockade.

What does this do to the U.S. economy?  Iran holds many cards here, and to rush to war would be the height of folly for the U.S.  Also, how does the U.S. simultaneously clear the Straights of Hormuz, and fly extensive air support to besieged units, without supply, in Afghanistan?  This is not Iraq.  This war is trouble for the U.S.

The Iranians could sink every US asset in the gulf in about 30 minutes and turn Israel into an ashtray during the same period.

In a surprise act during recent Iranian War Games in the Straits of Hormuz yesterday, Iran deployed 50,000 'Liar Buster' missiles worldwide that eliminated the most egregious liars in the world. As a result, almost all of the heads of US government (Senate, Congress, Lobbyists), heads of many Nato and G20 nations, World Bank, UN, IMF, BIS and other NGOs have been eliminated. As a percent of population, Israel has suffered the most casualties with over 1% dead.

Ron Paul, the only surviving elected representative of the US government, was immediately appointed President.

The Japanese women camped out in front of METI (opposing nuclear) have organized a World Peace Association which replaces the UN. Most of OWS members have joined.

The FEMA camps have begun filling up with bankers and the remains of the military-industrial complex, who were spared by the liar busters which targeted 90%+ liars.

The occupants of the FEMA camps say that's the only place they feel safe, after several public stoning and hanging deaths on Wall St earlier today.

Iran's President Ahmadinejad vowed to dismantle their nuclear program, saying "We had been doing Gods work, but now we wish to return to the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness". All political prisoners in Iran have been released.

Cutting through all the words, it seems that the root cause is that everyone is just crazy. Sane people don't act like this. There are no exclusions: everyone has lost it and it all go BOOM!

A single US Submarine has the ability to 'deal' with Iran in such a manner that they will never bother anyone, ever again.
