Iran Blinks, Delays Vote On European Crude Export Halt Even As US Escalates Military Developments Against Country

Tyler Durden's picture

After it was the west backing down from further unnecessary escalation with Iran two weeks ago, when Israel and the US delayed indefinitely joint naval operations in the Arabian Gulf, it is now Iran's turn to blink. Following reports that Iran would pass a law halting crude exports to European countries, in advance of the full-blown embargo expected to take place some time by June, or as soon as European countries have found alternative supplies, we now learn that "Iran's parliament on Sunday postponed the debate over the bill." This is happening just as nuclear inspectors are arriving in the country "to probe allegations of a secret atomic weapons program." Yet does this mean that Iran has just exposed a major weakness that the West will immediately pounce on? It is still unclear - Reuters reports that "Iran's oil minister said on Sunday the Islamic state would soon stop exporting crude to "some" countries, the state news agency IRNA reported." Naturally the vague, open-endedness of this statement makes it quite clear that it was Iran's turn to de-escalate this time around. Or does this simply mean that Iran has been unable to conclude alternative oil trade arrangements with China, Russia and India just yet?

According to Reuters:  "Soon we will cut exporting oil to some countries," Rostam Qasemi was quoted by IRNA as saying."

Yet instead of taking this cue to attempt some additional deescalation in its own part, the US has decided to double down in further belaboring already tense relations.

On one hand, WaPo reported late on Friday that the Navy wants a commando "mothership" in the Middle East, something which Iran will be delighted to hear.

The Pentagon is rushing to send a large floating base for commando teams to the Middle East as tensions rise with Iran, al-Qaeda in Yemen and Somali pirates, among other threats.

In response to requests from U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, the Navy is converting an aging warship it had planned to decommission into a makeshift staging base for the commandos. Unofficially dubbed a “mothership,” the floating base could accommodate smaller high-speed boats and helicopters commonly used by Navy SEALs, procurement documents show.

Lt. Cmdr. Mike Kafka, a spokesman for the Navy’s Fleet Forces Command, declined to elaborate on the floating base’s purpose or to say where, exactly, it will be deployed in the Middle East. Other Navy officials acknowledged that they were moving with unusual haste to complete the conversion and send the mothership to the region by early summer.

Navy documents indicate that it could be headed to the Persian Gulf, where Iran has threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route for much of the world’s oil supply. A market survey proposal from the Military Sealift Command, dated Dec. 22 and posted online, states that the floating base needed to be delivered to the Persian Gulf.

U.S. military officials declined to say what prompted them to give the Ponce a sudden new lease on life. But contract and bidding documents underscore the urgency of the project.

One no-bid contract for engineering work states that the military was waiving normal procurement rules because any delay presented a “national security risk.” Other contract bids are due Feb. 3. The Navy wants the conversion work to begin 10 days later on the Ponce, which is docked in Virginia Beach

Also on Friday, the WSJ reported that the Pentagon seeks a mightier bomb vs Iran, one whose name could have only been inspired by the Adult Entertainment Expo: the "Massive Ordnance Penetrator."

Pentagon war planners have concluded that their largest conventional bomb isn't yet capable of destroying Iran's most heavily fortified underground facilities, and are stepping up efforts to make it more powerful, according to U.S. officials briefed on the plan.

The 30,000-pound "bunker-buster" bomb, known as the Massive Ordnance Penetrator, was specifically designed to take out the hardened fortifications built by Iran and North Korea to cloak their nuclear programs.

But initial tests indicated that the bomb, as currently configured, wouldn't be capable of destroying some of Iran's facilities, either because of their depth or because Tehran has added new fortifications to protect them.

Doubts about the MOP's effectiveness prompted the Pentagon this month to secretly submit a request to Congress for funding to enhance the bomb's ability to penetrate deeper into rock, concrete and steel before exploding, the officials said.

The push to boost the power of the MOP is part of stepped-up contingency planning for a possible strike against Iran's nuclear program, say U.S. officials.

Alas, in light of these two additional escalating developments, we are rather confident that Iran's latest gambit to show a modicum of goodwill behind the scenes will soon be extinguished.

iRan figured out what would happen. iRan shuts the oil spigot to ooooro-zone. Saudi Arabia picks up the tab.  "How is this possible??" the peak-oil f-tards scream?  Easy: Saudi Arabia buys discounted oil from iRan, then turns around and sells it to the ooooro-zone with a nice profit.

Peak oil f tards....

We have already established your logic is if A then not B.

If A......"the elite support peak oil theory"...which is total bullshit by the way, there is no news on peak oil in the MSM.

Then not B...."so since I don't agree with the elite, peak oil theory is not true."

Fatsexual, you write fallacies.  It will be best if you shut the fuck up.

Peak oil is like a self fulfilling prophecy.  As long as we believe, and the oil companies believe it, it will probably work out tht way.  On the other hand, the Russians don't believe it and they have an entirely different theory, called "Abiotic Oil", which simply means that oil doesn't come from dead dinosaurs and plant material, it is made deep down in the earth's mantle.

The lowest any biological material has ever been found is 16,000 feet.  The Russians drill as deep as 42,000 feet for their oil.  And their theory has made them the world's number one producer.  Can't argue with success.

Don't forget that ayatollahs are running Iran. These people are illiterate POS without any clue about running either domestic or international affairs.

·        After all, Iran has no friends. Neither Russia nor China are their friends. They are just Iran’s customers.

·        Remember that Iran was welcoming the American invasions into Iraq and Libya

·        Iranian economy is a jock

·        Iranian security apparatus is only capable of beating up their own dissidents but totally incapable of protecting their top scientists and military installations

·        As for Iranian military, their war with Iraq revealed their WW I military capabilities.

If Iran will play Qaddafi games blinking under pressure, it will be destroyed in no time. Only clear indication by Iran to fight back and inflict severe damage on major EU population centers as well as on Israel and Saudi will stop NATO and Israel.

You don't have very much knowledge about this matter.  You came across some comment in a website and read an article by someone with no degree in geology or physics and you thought it was truth.

The Russians do not have "an entirely different theory".  A couple of Russians published an article speculating on abiotic oil.  The article and authors were dismissed by Russian geologists and global geologists, and it was dismissed by the Russian oil companies.

They do not drill and produce oil using an abiotic model.  They drill and produce oil from conventional structures underground found with seismic studies.

The Bakken oil field last year produced a lot of oil.  There is great excitement about it.  There is also mathematics.  The amount of oil it produced was roughly equal to 1/2 the oil produced by the state of Oklahoma in 1927.  It was 1/5th the amount of oil produced by the state of Alaska in 1988.

Oklahoma's oil production is presently down 75% from its 1927 production.  That's 80+ years of technology improvement that did not stop the decline, and 80+ years for abiotic sources to refill those empty fields, and it has not happened.

Nor will it.

I love it.  Everything you've ever been taught is wrong, my friend.  Check out the origins of the dinosaur theory, before dissing what the Russians are doing.  Peak oil is real, and it is real because the whole industry, except for the Russians, think like you do.  Of course those fields are producing less, of course the new finds are smaller.  No argument.  The Russians have a different theory, and they don't mind being the world's number 1 producer.  they gave up long ago trying to convince the West.

Don't you think if somebody is in first place, someone should be interested in how they got there?  The BP oil spill in the Gulf, our Gulf, is a prime example.  They drilled deep, down to Abiotic levels and discovered a huge pool of oil, but at temperatures and pressures that they did not know how to handle.  The Russians offered to come and fix it for us, but nope, that aint allowed.  Figure it out.

Many Russian geologists and petroleum researchers credit the rise of Russia over the past 50 years as the largest producer of oil and second largest producer of natural gas in the world to the successful application of the abiogenic theory of oil and gas formation. The Russians claim to have successfully drilled over 300 ultra deep (around 40,000feet) oil and gas wells through granite and basalt based on this theory. These claims have been questioned by Western geologists and petroleum engineers.

The most recent attempt at gaining credence for the abiogenic idea was only a few months ago. A research team at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden, led by Vladimir Kutherov, demonstrated that animal and plant fossils are not necessary for producing oil and natural gas. The team simulated the thermal and pressure processes that occur in the inner layers of the earth to generate hydrocarbons, the chief component of oil and natural gas. The team also noted that oil and gas has been found 7 miles below ground in Texas and fossil oil and gas could not, via, gravity have seeped down to such depths.

It aint a few Russians, it was their whole science department who came up with the theory, not just a couple misfits.  The Russians actually come up with new science every now and then, contrary to what our history tells us.

"Hmmm, that team over there, have just surpassed the Saudis, when everybody knew that the Saudis had, by far, the most oil on the planet.  I wonder how they did it?"

That is the proper attitude.

Its not like Russia is producing more than they did in '89.  And I am just pointing out that there is no creditable evidence for abiotic oil anywhere, and if you think you have some share it with the pros.  It's like when someone brings bullshit financial story to this site and they get called out.  If you talk about abiotic oil on the oil drum you will get laughed off.

And since you using names your mom used mine last night a few times.

Transformer's picture

You mean a bullshit financial story like Iraq, Libya, and Iran didn't sell oil for Euros, they just sell it in dollars and then convert it down at the bank or the currency exchange place on the mall.  Ha

And as far as Abiotic oil goes.  Hmmm, the world's number one producer says they used this theory to become #1.  That's not credible or even a little bit interesting?  And Russian Geologists are not credible?  why?  Because they're Russian, and everyone knows all the good science comes from the West?  If the dinosaur theory was true, then where did that deep deep oil that BP botched up in the Gulf Of Mexico come from?

You see, here is all this evidence staring you in the face.  There is a ton more of it on the net.  Now that still doesn't prove anything, (300 wells to below 40,000' is what proves something) but you'd think a person such as yourself who calls himself Lennon Hendrix would maybe just scratch his head and wonder a little bit.  But no, if the authorities that are in vogue don't agree, then you can't even think about it.

So it comes down to either you are a troll or a sheeple or pretty stupid.  This is why we are where we are today.  You got to wake up.   And waking up means questioning things, especially when there's a really good reason to question.  Don't buy what the authorities tell you.  They are usually wrong.  When a big authority tells you something, there's usually a socio-political-financial reason for it, like. . . .for example. . . . Global Warming.  Just like Peak Oil, it's a theory that will change civilization forever.  And both of them mean that the common people are spose to go without, reduce, use less, have a lower standard of living.  When somebody tells you that, you should question it, just a little, and maybe a whole lot.

You do not need an authority to tell you how the world works.  In fact, you should be suspicious when they do.

Don't worry, inside one month's time, Iran will announce that it is halting all nuclear enrichment until around the time the presidential election has taken place. They are not the irrational actors they are portrayed to be. They know exactly what they are doing, and the more aggression the US shows, the more it solidifies the people behind the ruling mullahs. Unfortunately this is EXACTLY what we don't want, and what the Israelis want - an isolated Iran.

China needs Iran to for the resurrection of the Silk Road, so while China didn't bat much of an eye when disturbances and uprisings took place elsewhere in the ME, Iran is a different story for them. They don't need the rest, as long as they ensure they have Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey. Turkey's ok, AfPak will be clear of US influence in a few years, and Israel will just need to gamble a bit to see how far it can push the envelope. The Russians are waiting in their Syrian naval base for a disturbance in Iran.

You want him to die on Viagra's unholy thrills for having defied Allah by bowing to an Ayatollah, similar in name and religious shame as Orthodox schismatic clown in the eyes of latinist Papist zealot; ready to kill the bug of heretic disease in reformist and orthodox christian lands over four centuries; like Arnaud Amaury before Bezier's walls, shouting "kill em all", or 4th Crusaders spreading God's word in COnstantinople for the benefit of Venice's OLigarchs....History repeats, and a 800 hundred year span is a grain of sand...when it comes to extolling eternal God.

When the Shad ruled Iran, his military was mostly equipped with American hardware. With the advent of the Iraq/Iran War, the mullahs military was fast depleting their American supported parts and looking around to buy replacement parts.

What you fail to understand, or at least make mention of, is that by selling their oil for dollars they are enabling the US empire's petro-dollar. The point is not just to get gold or Euros, the point is to stop using the US dollar, period. As the world reserve currency, and since most US dollars are held outside the US, a lot of people are pissed off about inflationary policies. ZIRP 2 iNFiNiTY means everybody in the world is looking to get away from the USD. The elite only needed the US at first for currency domination back when it was an industrial powerhouse, and now with a new global currency taking form they don't need the US anymore, and will let it become a 2nd world nation like all the 3rd world nations have already become thanks to globalization.

Gaddafi had gold.  So you are saying he risked the gold he had by trying to trade oil for more gold, when he knew that if he tried to start a gold backed currency the West would fuck him up?  That doesn't really sound like him.  He sort of licked licking boots if it meant he could be the ruler of his country.

Once again, your whole Gore schtick is old.  The MSM does not support peak oil.  If anything your flawed logic of "If A then not B" should mean you support peak oil, because the establishment does NOT support peak oil.

Have you ever heard FOX talk about peak oil?  NBC?  No and no.

Why don't you go and discuss peak oil with a group that will laugh you off the blogosphere.  Good luck!!!

I read some years ago that the Pentagon could make a new (sort of) bomb by taking up into space specially shaped tungsten rods.  And then just drop them from 50 miles up.  Tungsten is heavy, hard and would not nelt upon re-entry.  Just the speed of those rods would slice through hundreds of feet of rock and would cause LOTS of damage to underground facilities.  All of this with NO explosives.

Trying to understand the physics behind that. I believe it was Einstien who calculated that a steel pole stretched from the earths surface to the moon would only need to be tapped an inch to knock the planet out of orbit but that's due to the leverage. In this case you would be restricted by maximum velocity unless they were motorized - it wouldn't matter if you dropped the poles from 1 mile or 50 miles. I'm sure there's someone here with a degree in physics that could expalin it.....

I keep forgetting that every war the US has fought is for Israel like WW1, WW2, Vietnam War, Korean War, Spanish-American War.  Yup we Americans should have known Israel was behind all of them and don't tell me it's not possible since Israel wasn't a state before 1948.  That's a conspiracy.  Israel existed way before then and that's less ridiculous then Mossad behind 911.

The US Army disagrees with you concerning Mossad's capabilities.

In 2001, an elite US Army study center devised a plan for enforcing a major Israeli-Palestinian peace accord that would require about 20,000 well-armed troops stationed throughout Israel and a newly created Palestinian state. The report attempts to predict events in the first year of a peace-enforcement operation, and sees possible dangers for U.S. troops from both sides. Of the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, the US army officers say: "Wildcard. Ruthless and cunning. Has capability to target U.S. forces and make it look like a Palestinian/Arab act."

The amazing thing about this is that this story was reported in the Washington Post on September 10, 2001. [1

That's called controlled dissent.  The best way to control dissent is to lead it.  Look into Cass Sunstein and his program of cognitive infiltration.  What does it say when a government is so concerned with truth getting out.  If we're nutters, why the need to infiltrate the truth movement with disinfo trolls???

Judy Wood is a prime example with the Directed Energy Weapon nonsense.  Loose Change and Alex Jones are two more subtle examples (notice they never bring up the Mossad connection).  The idiots that claim holograms were used are likely all government trolls...(have you submitted an application?)

As for blaming everything on Zionists, well, you can go back to reading about the founding of our constitutional convention and find out just how sneaky liars and how greedy Christians were with no jews present.   But more likely, you're going to disregard anything Christians do and only focus on anything that benefits jews or as many of you use a cover, Zionists.

I grew up a good little brainwashed Christian NeoCon.  Israel could do no wrong, Jews were God's "chosen" people, and after 9/11 I bought into patriotic mania.

The idea that I blindly want to blame Jews for everything is false.  A few years ago I started digging into 9/11, and the evidence forced me to change my paradigm.  I really don't care if someone goes to church, temple, or a mosque... this country was founded on the idea of freedom of religion.

When a group of xenophobes, secular or religous, pledges loyalty to a foreign country they should not be allowed to serve in office.  When they use that office to cover up the murder of Americans to be blamed on their enemies in the middle east, they should be punished for high treason.

all the above, same as me(edit: except for 9/11, I didn't need the '9/11 truth movement' to know we were being lied to from the day it happened)...expanding on the following:

"When a group of xenophobes, secular or religous, pledges loyalty to a foreign country they should not be allowed to serve in office.  When they use that office to cover up the murder of Americans to be blamed on their enemies in the middle east, they should be punished for high treason."

That goes for Zionist Gentile cut-outs, frontmen, and lackeys as well...especially those who are able to influence public office holders. Prime example in my book is some one like the fat c**t 'Reverend' John Hagee.

That POS should be deported ASAP. There are plenty of other examples, but for Hagee see this:

7. John Hagee Ministries (& Christians United for Israel): Registered in Texas. Evangelical Pastor John Hagee has been praised by both U.S. and Israeli officials for his unstinting support of Israel. The Christian Evangelical news network GOD TV reports that Hagee has raised US$58 million for charities in Israel. Im Tirtzu, the Gush Etzion Regional Council and the settlement of Ariel have all reportedly received funding from his network, among other venues. Hagee's operations are perhaps the most high-profile ones on this shortlist, partly because as an Evangelical leader he possess political clout that has brought presidential hopefuls to break bread with him.

With what was pumped into my head as a youngster, I've found lately two sources that have helped me personally in dispelling some of those 'demons.'

The first is a very interesting book called Not In His Image by John Lamb Lash:

Don't mistake him for some run of the mill 'new ager' as he voices some strong opinions in the book about that scene.

...and second was listening to the thoughts of a man by the name of John Trudell. Here's a brief video of Trudell discussing blame, guilt, intelligence, and sin:

Bush Still Working On Manned Mission To Mars Quietly In Spare Time

DALLAS—Speaking from his home in Dallas, former president George W. Bush told reporters Tuesday that when he's not busy giving lectures or writing his memoirs, he spends most of his spare time working on the manned mission to Mars he proposed in January 2004.

"This is genuinely important to me," said Bush, looking over sketches of potential rocket systems he had drawn up while waiting for his oil to be changed at a service station earlier this week. "I wasn't kidding when I announced a plan to get us to Mars, by God, and I intend to finish what I started. That's why I try to carve out a little time before lunch and after dinner to work on this important interplanetary initiative."

"It's a big project," Bush added. "Lots of little details to work out."

While in 2004 many critics suggested Bush's call for a mission to Mars was little more than political theater, the 43rd president has called those claims "ridiculous." Bush said he has spent many hours scouring the web for information about space travel and Mars, in addition to checking out "a bunch" of books on the subject from the local library and regularly e-mailing contacts he still has at NASA to ask their advice on his plan.

He also frequently watches the PBS program Nova.

"It's the first thing I think of when I wake up after having some breakfast and doing the crossword," Bush said. "Ask anyone: Whenever I have a spare minute, I'm always thinking about how to put astronauts on the surface of Mars."

"And Laura knows not to bother me on Saturday afternoons when I don't have a speaking engagement or a golf match to go to," Bush added. "That's my Mars time."

Working from the makeshift basement office he refers to as "Mission Control 2," Bush said he has grappled with some of the major issues surrounding a manned mission to Mars. For months he's been jotting down notes about how zero gravity would affect the bone density and muscle mass of the crew, and he spends about five minutes during his morning jog each day coming up with ideas for safely storing a year's worth of onboard oxygen.

Sometimes, Bush said, potential solutions come not when he's reading about the Red Planet's inhospitable surface conditions on Wikipedia or brainstorming shuttle names through free-association exercises, but when he's not thinking about the historic 34- million-mile voyage at all.

"Just last week, I was out in the garden tending to the tomatoes when it hit me: The astronauts should grow their own food to eat on their spaceship," Bush said. "I'm not saying I have all the specifics down just yet, but how the astronauts going to Mars will eat is at least one thing the next president won't have to worry about."

Bush recently started a blog devoted entirely to his thoughts about setting up a permanent colony on Mars. To achieve this, he writes on, the astronauts will need to bring materials for building a sustainable base on the planet, and be able to convert water in the Martian soil into hydrogen and oxygen for the trip home.

"That's just common sense," Bush said. "All the science-fiction writers know that."

Bush admitted that he didn't have as much time as he would like to devote to the mission, but assured reporters he would never give up on something so important. While the challenges may seem insurmountable, he said, the greatest hope for man to achieve the incredible goal of landing on the surface of Mars lies in exploiting as-yet undiscovered technologies to overcome the incredibly daunting physical distances involved.

"I'm pretty busy right now, but when I get a spare 30 minutes, I'm going to start working on that," Bush said while flipping through a copy of Scientific American. "I'll have my friend Jerry from down the road come over and crunch some of the numbers for me. He's good with computers."

To judge from the overall level of physical attractiveness among the British population (think of any member of the royal family here as an example), spotted dicks are the least of their problems.  How that nation even manages to maintain a birthrate over 0.00 must be purely due to "closing their eyes and thinking of England."

Up to 100,000 US troops present by early March

For the new buildup on Socotra, Washington had to negotiate a new deal with Yemen’s ousted ruler Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Injured in an assassination attempt last year, Saleh demanded permission to travel to the United States for medical treatment. The Obama administration first refused, then relented when Saleh made it his condition for consenting to additional troops landing on the island.

Western military sources familiar with the American buildup on the two strategic islands tell DEBKA-Net-Weekly that, although they cannot cite precise figures, they are witnessing the heaviest American concentration of might in the region since the US invaded Iraq in 2003.

Then, 100,000 American troops were massed in Kuwait ahead of the invasion. Today, those sources estimate from the current pace of arrivals on the two island bases, that 50,000 US troops will have accumulated on Socotra and Masirah by mid-February. They will top up the 50,000 military already present in the Persian Gulf region, so that in less than a month, Washington will have some 100,000 military personnel on the spot and available for any contingency.

And now we have missions everywhere. like the humanitarian libyan mission., who would have thought.

It's OIL for a very very very good reason.

OT : Gingrich biggest supporter investigated for bribing foreign officials

American billionaire, close ally of Netanyahu, and main donor to Gingrich's campaign has been under federal investigation for his casino empire's alleged involvement in a corruption scandal in China, ABC reports.

Last year, the Department of Justice and the Securities Exchange Commission launched an investigation into Adelson's alleged bribery of Chinese officials.

According to ABC, Sands casinos was allegedly cooperating with Chinese organized crime groups, known as triads, who allegedly organized high stakes gambling and sex junkets.

Chinese press reported at the time that more than 100 prostitues were found in the casino, during a raid by local authorities. A former manager at the casino, Steven C. Jacobs, sued Sands, claiming that Adelson told him to remain silent regarding investigation taking place against the company.

Several months ago, Adelson contributed $5 million to Winning Our Future, a pro-Gingrich super PAC. More recently, Adelson's wife gave another $5 million to the same super PAC, providing a major lift to the former House Speaker's campaign.

Can Gingrich run end already?

Oh my God. Did anybody actually expect they would prohibit oil exports to Europe?

That's the only thing they have to buy food for the people. That would be ABSOLUT SUICIDAL for the regime. Their currency is already in hyper inflation.

Guys, do some simple math. For Iran, Oil = Food.

Oh, hold? Would they all go in HUNGER STRIKE as a nation? Don't make me laugh please.

They only export 0.8 barrels to Europe.

I doubt they will cut their exports to Turkey anyways.

They'll just export more oil to India and China.

"Oh my God. Did anybody actually expect they would prohibit oil exports to Europe?"

Sure - if India, China and Russia will buy those exports at the same price they are selling to Europe, who gives a shit about Europe? Money's money - doesn't matter whether it comes from the EU or from India, China and Russia.

I think the deal with India, China and Russia hit a snag.

Sir, Russia does NOT buy oil. Russia is the biggetst oil exporter in the world, not Saudi Arabia.

However, assuming you are correct, then Europe, USA and Canada will ban food exports to Iran. Do you think China will export grain and other food to Iran with 49c/hr average wage? Oh, oh, oh, China has a surplus of pigs. They love pork. They will help the muslim Iranians with a lot of pork...(sarcasm).

Russia may be an exporter but I don't think that would stop them from buying a resource to feed into their refineries and pipelines if the price was right.  They export to eastern and central europe, as a poster above me said money is money and gas is gas.

Sun, 01/29/2012 - 15:00 | 2107630 ekm

And then they would just turn off their riggs? Think about the flow of oil. It never stops.

There is a theoretical possibility that may happen, but it will make Iranians sell oil at a deep discount that will plung oil price immediately. Russian doesn't want that.

turn off rigs no but it would allow them at the margin to depend less on exploration and the drill bit.  Yes I agree with you about the discount to price, remember though Russia maintains gas pipelines west into Europe, refiners of end product require cheap resources or their margins get squeezed, furthermore supply of resource means nothing if the end users cannot afford the refined product any longer.

Sorry to bust up your wet-dream with a dose of reality, but countries have food surpluses and need oil. They barter. They will continue to barter regardless of dollar dictates from the Ponzi Money Camp.

Without a physical embargo, which is an act of war, Persians will have food.

Actually this is not due to Iran embargo, but to Monti's taxes on gasoline... Italy doesn't give a fuck about Iran's oil, as we use the Lybian one.

Anyway, this protest has already ended 5 days ago with a negotiation between the government and the representatives of the protest.

Please get informed before posting bullshits.

The captain thanks you.

Yes, Italy does not need to import oil. A huge deposit was recently found off the coast of the island of Giglio.  And it's already refined and ready to use!

On the 16th of January these protesters began "Operazione Vespri Siciliani", a blockade of the Island of Sicily. Within two days the transportation of all goods was stopped. Over the next week, nothing entered or exited Sicily. This was no mean feat given that Sicily is not a small Island; it has a population of over five million people and a surface area of 25,711 km2.

Russia sells oil for more than $100.  Buying it from Iran is cheaper, consider Iran's discounted currency.

This is why people that don't understand peak oil (call it peak cheap oil if you want) are stupid.  Sure Russia is producing more than anyone right now, but the EROEI is making their exports expensive, which is not condusive to their economic outlook.
