Iran Holds Air Defense Drills As IAEA Says Iran Blocks Access To Key Nuclear Site

Tyler Durden's picture

As if the market needed another bizarro catalyst to ramp even higher courtesy of an even more pronounced drop in corporate earnings courtesy of soaring energy costs, that is just what it is about to get following news of further deterioration in the Nash equilibrium in Iran, where on one hand we learn that IAEA just pronounced Iran nuclear talks a failure (this is bad), and on the other Press TV reports that the Iran army just started a 4 day air defense exercise in a 190,000 square kilometer area in southern Iran (this is just as bad). The escalation "ball" is now in the Western court. And if Iraq is any indication, after IAEA talks "failure" (no matter how grossly manipulated by the media), the aftermath is usually always one and the same...

From The Guardian:

The UN nuclear agency has declared its latest inspection visit to Iran a failure, with the regime blocking access to a key site suspected of hosting covert nuclear weapon research and no agreement reached on how to resolve other unanswered questions.

The statement from the International Atomic Energy Agency was issued shortly after an Iranian general warned of a pre-emptive strike against any nation that threatens Iran.

"We engaged in a constructive spirit but no agreement was reached," the statement quoted IAEA chief Yukiya Amano as saying.

The communique said that Iran did not grant requests by the IAEA mission to visit Parchin, a military site thought to be used for explosives testing related to triggering a nuclear weapon. Amano called this decision "disappointing". No agreement was reached on how to begin "clarification of unresolved issues in connection with Iran's nuclear programme, particularly those relating to possible military dimensions", the statement said.

Apparently it is Iran's fault for seeing right through the IAEA's track record of being nothing but the catalyst for all out aggression. Here is a reminder why, courtesy of Hans Blix. And with that out of the way, we continue:

The fact that the statement was issued early Wednesday, shortly after midnight and just after the IAEA experts left Tehran, reflected the urgency the agency attached to announcing the failed outcome. The language of the statement clearly if indirectly blamed Tehran for the lack of progress.

We can already see the statements from Clinton, who will do anything to make her transition to head of the World Bank as seamless and as "deserved" as pobssible.

In the meantime, Iran is not playing possum:

Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base started the four-day exercises codenamed Tharallah on Monday within an area of 190,000 square kilometers in southern Iran, with the key objective of boosting the country’s air defense near the Persian Gulf and the nation’s Bushehr nuclear power plant.

During the military drills slated in four tactical phases, the Iranian army will test and assess the operation of its surface-to-air and radar equipment, and will collect new data on the procedures.

State-of -the-art radar, artillery and missile systems as well as interceptor fighter aircraft of the Air Force will be used in the military drills.

In the first phase of the drills, the fighter aircraft of the hypothetical enemy launched attacks against local air defense forces as part of an electronic warfare exercise.

Using passive and active sensors and multilevel data collection and communications systems, the air defense forces managed to thwart the mock enemy’s measures promptly and effectively, and safeguard the country’s radar network.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Forces wrapped up another drill codenamed Val Fajr in the central province of Yazd on Monday, to further enhance the combat preparedness of Iranian armed forces.

Why is Iran doing this now?

Iran maintains that the military drills are defensive in nature and meant to convey a message of peace and friendship to regional countries.

Tehran has also sent a public invitation to regional states to conduct joint naval drills with Iranian forces.

Like Israel?

Internet searching is a disaster for most people who go looking for information. Indeed, there is a solar cycle and it is completely expected that sunspots are on the rise. The real concerns are far more subtle, e.g., the cycle is peaking late, society is more vulnerable to geomagnetic storms, etc.

Many of the concerns you raise are real. The problem is that about 95% of people web surfing can't distinguish the reliability of what they are reading. The cons and hysteria spread like wildfire and obscure the actual madness of our times.

A fun clue is when you see popular conspiracies begin to contradict each other, but the hawkers of each try to force fit them so they don't lose readers. Good sense is scarce as hen's teeth.

Its obvious what is going down, no different than Iraq, another preemptive strike to nowhere.

What are we going to do with all the Iranians in North America who have family in Iran?  Put them into camps?

I am not so sure that Iran will be as easy to push over as the last 2.5 or more countries.  Methinks, we may be in for a little surprise.  Someone told me one time to never underestinate your adversary.  We have been deluged with propoganda that we are superior in warfare as we have the mostest of the bestest.

We really do not know anything until it is proved.  Preemptive is not now or ever the way, because once a blow has fallen in the name of preemptive, one will never truly know if the other side was really going to do what our leaders would have us believe.

If it's an all-out, full-frontal duel, yes the U.S. will have the superior military force.  But this is not so straightforward a conflict.  It's foremost an economic (currency and trade) war, and sides are being chosen (look at treasury flows for a hint).  The U.S. doesn't have the economic stamina that some of Iran's 'friends' do.

I wonder what surprises the US/Israel will find if the switch is thrown. That trick with capturing the drone must have raised some eyebrows. I hope they are wondering what other unknowns might be out there.

Iranians will have elections on March 02, 2012. Foreign companies are halting food trade with Iran.

Anybody has any doubts yet why they keep having "military exercises"? Just to talk daily traders into bidding the crude oil higher, so they hope they win the elections against the oposition. People there are lacking food. Just think about it, 80% of Iran's export is crude oil. That's what they offer in exchange for food imports.

Does anybody remember the Iranian uprising that was squashed by hanging people off cranes?

And watch the fool a smiling there and tell me that youre proud
And listen to your radio, the noise it starts to pour
Oh I know youre set for fighting, but what are you fighting for?

Read your morning papers, read every single line
And tell me if you can believe that simple world you find
Read every slanted word till your eyes are getting sore,
I know youre set for fighting, but what are you fighting for?

And listen to your leaders, the ones who won the race
As they stand right there before you and lie into your face
If you ever try to buy them, you know what they stand for
I know youre set for fighting, but what are you fighting for?

Put ragged clothes upon your back and sleep upon the ground,
And tell police about your rights as they drag you down,
And ask them as they lead you to some deserted door,
Yes, I know youre set for fightin, but what are you fightin for?

But the hardest thing Ill ask you, if you will only try
Is take your children by their hands and look into their eyes
And there youll see the answer you should have seen before
If youll win the wars at home, therell be no fighting anymore"

Phil Ochs: What are you fighting for?

Phil Ochs, folk singer/songwriter and political activist, was found hanged in his sister’s home in Far Rockaway, New York on April 9, 1976. Throughout his life, Ochs was one of the most overtly political of the 1960s rock and folk music stars. A regular attendee at anti-war, civil rights, and labor rallies, Ochs appeared to be, at all times, an unwavering political leftist (he named his first band The Singing Socialists). That all changed, however, and rather dramatically, in the months before his death. Born in El Paso, Texas on December 19, 1940, Phil and his family moved frequently during the first few years of his life. His father, Dr. Jacob Ochs, had been drafted by the US Army and assigned to various military hospitals in New York, New Mexico and Texas. In 1943, Dr. Ochs was shipped overseas, returning two years later with a medical discharge. Upon his return, he was immediately institutionalized and didn’t return to his family for another two years. During that time, he was subjected to every ‘treatment’ imaginable, including electroshock ‘therapy.’ When he finally returned to his family, in 1947, he was but a shell of his former self, described by Phil’s sister as “almost like a phantom.” Beginning in the fall of 1956, Phil Ochs began attending Staunton Military Academy, the very same institution that future ‘serial killer’/cult leader Gary Heidnik would attend just one year after Ochs graduated. During Phil’s two years there, a friend and fellow band member was found swinging from the end of a rope (I probably don’t need to add here that the death was ruled a suicide). Following graduation, Phil enrolled at Ohio State University, but not before, oddly enough, having a little plastic surgery done to alter his appearance (doing such things, needless to say, was rather uncommon in 1958). In early 1962, just months before his scheduled graduation, Ochs dropped out of college to pursue a career in music. By 1966, he had released three albums. In 1967, under the management of his brother, Michael Ochs, Phil moved out to Los Angeles. Michael had begun working the previous year as an assistant to Barry James, who maintained a party house at 8504 Ridpath in Laurel Canyon. In the early 1970s, with his career beginning to fade, Phil Ochs began to travel internationally, usually accompanied by vast quantities of booze and pills. Those travels included a visit to Chile, not long before the US-sponsored coup that toppled Salvador Allende. In early summer of 1975, Phil Ochs’ public persona abruptly changed. Using the name John Butler Train, Ochs proclaimed himself to be a CIA operative and presented himself as a belligerent, right-wing thug. He told an interviewer that, “on the first day of summer 1975, Phil Ochs was murdered in the Chelsea Hotel by John Train … For the good of societies, public and secret, he needed to be gotten rid of.” That symbolic assassination, on the summer solstice, took place at the same hotel that Devon Wilson had flown out of a few years earlier. One of Ochs’ biographers would later write that Phil/John actually believed he was a member of the CIA.” Also in those final months of his life, Ochs began compiling curious lists, with entries that clearly were references to US biological warfare research: “shellfish toxin, Fort Dietrich, cobra venom, Chantilly Race Track, hollow silver dollars, New York Cornell Hospital …” Many years before Ochs’ metamorphosis, in an interesting bit of foreshadowing, psychological warfare operative George Estabrooks explained how US intelligence agencies could create the perfect spy: “We start with an excellent subject … we need a man or woman who is highly intelligent and physically tough. Then we start to develop a case of multiple personality through hypnotism. In his normal waking state, which we will call Personality A, or PA, this individual will become a rabid communist. He will join the party, follow the party line and make himself as objectionable as possible to the authorities. Note that he will be acting in good faith. He is a communist, or rather his PA is a communist and will behave as such. Then we develop Personality B (PB), the secondary personality, the unconscious personality, if you wish, although this is somewhat of a contradiction in terms. This personality is rabidly American and anti-communist. It has all the information possessed by PA, the normal personality, whereas PA does not have this advantage … My super spy plays his role as a communist in his waking state, aggressively, consistently, fearlessly. But his PB is a loyal American, and PB has all the memories of PA. As a loyal American, he will not hesitate to divulge those memories.” Estabrooks never explained what would happen if the programming were to go haywire and Personality B were to become the conscious personality, but my guess is that such a person would be considered a severe liability and would be treated accordingly. They might even be find themselves swinging from the end of a rope. Phil Ochs was thirty-five at the time of his death.

Who didn't see this coming? Iran only aggreed to inspections to buy some more time, something it is running out of. Israel will not stand down much longer. I suspect we could be just days away from an israeli attack. When it comes {and it will}, the best thing Iran could do would be to not retaliate directly. Send in Hamas and Hezbollah. Stir up al Sadr to have his Mahadi army disrupt Iraq's oil production. But at all cost Iran must not directly attack Israel militarily. How is everyone's USO calls doing?

Wrong. They agreed to them by being a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Also, that very same treaty does not give the IAEA access to military facilities which are not directly involved in the handling or processing of fissile materials. There is what is called the Additional Protocol which would allow this, but Iran has never ratified this. (They probably would agree to it if they were treated like adults, but they clearly won't be bullied into it.)

Bottom line: if the military facility in question is only researching explosives and is not working with fissile material (which the IAEA could easily detect due to the radioisotope fingerprints which would be all over the facility and its surroundings), then Iran is still in full compliance with its NNPT obligations.

How is it possible that antichrist morons can maintain any control? How is it possible for anyone to believe leaders, or anyone who claims to accept the mercy of our Father in Christ, but yet they protect and serve the abortion of children, even though these leaders are risen from the womb having escaped their own ill conceived claim of dominion?

people say iran war preparations are just like iraq war preparations. they are not. saddam bent over backwards to make sure history will show he was attacked without provocation in a preemptive strike, pure empire building. iran has taken every opportunity to dare the usa and israel to attack iran unprovoked in a preemptive strike. it must have some assurances from russia and china that any attack by the usa and israel will be fully defended by russia and china with the goal of ending the usa empire and destroying israel.

150-200 dollar/barrel oil is all that it would take to finish off the western economies(and russia cutting of the natgas supply to europe)sending gold and silver on a super spike while the middle class finally realizes, with nothing left to lose, that rioting is cathartic especially when it involves the battering of the law enforcement officers and setting fires to symbols of the status quo.

if you were to read carefully you would notice that i never suggested iran has been the aggressor. i did say that when the usa or israel ginned up the war rhetoric iran has responded with a "bring it on" response. when sanctions were imposed iran has given europe a preview of the consequences.  when the us navy did maneuvers the iranian navy did maneuvers. when israel says time is running out iran shows off it's air defense and tactical missile offense. china and russia have drawn a line at syria and iran.

my impossible hope is that the usa pulls a bay of pigs and leaves israel stranded when they decide to attack iran unilaterally.

Like WW1, everyone has a reason to go to war.

This is the worst possible scenario.

Israel wants the Arabs to tear each other apart - a larger Persian-Arab War.

Team Wisner and MI-6 are not going to be able to contain a new generation of Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

The US wants to kick China out of Africa and the ME, especially access to energy but also new export markets.  The US takes the entire Saudi Peninsula to protect all those oil monarchies and their purchase of dollars.

Russia only profits from war by selling more arms and oil at inflated prices.

I don't see what China might get because once the shooting starts there is ZERO Iranian oil coming out of the region even at a discount. I guess they got that US drone a few months back.

The banks get $$$, but there is no reason to go down this road if oil does not go to $300/barrel.

The Iranian theocracy gets even more nationalistic - maintain power even if its from a bunker.  Iran will eventually get the bomb and the delivery systems to put nukes anywhere they want.  Maybe it takes another 20 years, but they will do it.

The US could not take and hold Afpak or even Eastern Iraq.

There is no systemic point of (preemptive) attacking a proto-nuclear state the size of the western US with a 80 million population all on the other side of the world.

Madness.

Question.

Does the IAEA inspect Israeli nuke facilities? North Korea, India, and Pakistan?

How many nukes has Dimona produced?

This is the hypocrisy that will undercut the US political will to continue this kind of campaign.

And when Amerikans can't take it anymore domestically, ....

Its clear Obama is totally out of his depth.  The troika - State, Defense and CIA are running this locomotive.

"Why Iran is in the Cross-Hairs of the IAEA Today"

Quotes [SIC] "Deception" by Levy & Scott-Clark __ c.2007

"In 1976 the CIA station reported to its regional headquarters in Tehran, the Iranian capital: 'Something strange was happening at Kahuta. Construction work is going on at a pace quite uncharacteristic of Pakistan'. * [Operation Butter Factory ie. Project - 706 __ Secret Manufacturing Site for Pakistani Nuclear Weapons Program] Note: Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that France, US,UK and USSR had drawn up in 1968 to prevent non-nuclear states from obtaining nuclear weapons [they (4) were the IAEA chiefdom, with a lock on all technology and hardware --- lot's of money to be made]

**Sequence of nuclear events that brought the world into the 'Nuclear [Age] Family': 1) Aug/1945 - US bombs Japan's Hiroshima and Nagasaki  2) Sept/1949 USSR detonates atomic bomb  3) Oct/1952  UK detonates atomic bomb  4) Oct/1960 France detonates atomic bomb  5) Oct/1964 China detonates atomic bomb,... as others soon followed/ joined __ Israel, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil , and India [Hindu?] in 1974, wth Pakistan being a laggard to join the Nuclear Club [ Muslim?] in May/1998.

 Important Note: [Sic] Quote ___ "US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger had tried to head Bhutto's (PM Pakistan, and believed wholeheartedly in Pakistan Codified Law's,... 'NOT' Sunni Sharia Law from the 'House of Saud') nuclear ambitions off course during a meeting in New York in 1976, offering him a strange deal. Bhutto was to terminate his reprocessing project in favor of a US-supplied facility that would be located in Iran and be available to all countries in the region. Dick Cheney, then chief of staff to President Gerald Ford, and Donald Rumsfeld, the defense secretary, had devised the scheme , arguing that Iran needed a nuclear program to meet its future energy needs --- even thoughthe country was awash in oil and gas reserves. It was the first proposed US nuclear deal with Iran and would have been extremely lucrative for US corporations like Westinghouse and General Electric, which stood to earn $6.4 billion from the project. But, Bhutto rejected the offer." {"Deception" by Adrian Levy & Catherine Scott-Clark __ c.2007}

"No Islamic Nation was to have Nuclear Weapons, Period" ___ Vietnam was still a lingering memory, and america was sick of war. Carter was elected and sent the CIA to Pakistan {AQ Khan was the Man} to find out what, if any truth there was of Pakistan becoming a nuclear power. Israel too, demanded answers about an Islamic bomb.  In Jan/1979 Menachim Begin was worried that nuclear Pakistan, Iran, and even possibly Libya were all building nuclear bombs. Israel was eager to go to battle with or without the US. Needless to say Bhutto lost the elections that year subsequently being hanged for a trumped-up fabricated lie by General Muhammad Zia ul Haq commander and chief under marshall law. Bhutto was hanged 4/17/1979 ***[just like saddam's fate?] Quote [SIC] Deception by Levy & Scott-Clark c.2007

US citizens want to have control over Iranians and make a killing when achieving the control.

US citizens are driven by two centers of interest:

Iranians provide both. From that moment, who cares what the Iranians do?

What do you not understand about:

  • Israel stealing uranium for "the bomb" in the 50's from their "friend", the US
  • Israel stealing US tech secrets and selling them to China
  • Israel purposefully bombing the USS Liberty
  • And on, and on...

Do you really think Israel is our loyal friend?  They are USING us...let me rephrase...the central bank world oligarchs are using the brute force of the US to create Greater Zion and put under their thumb ALL resources in the ME.

George Washington (the prez) strongly warned against "permanent alliances".

I am NO Iran apologist, but the situation is most certainly NOT what is being painted by the propaganda-press.

Should I be more afraid of Iran having a nuke than Israel or about the same? How about Pakistan?

World War III - The First Private War in History

Those who won all battles shall lose the war.

Bilderberg Group and the crimes against humanity.

This is how things work in all countries. Whatever used to belong to their people, today it belongs to the multinational companies of the Club. People were betrayed by their given leaderships and they lost everything. Capitals and markets were handed to the Club bosses. If you understand what is going on in Greece, you can understand what is going on in Britain, France, and Germany etc..

As long as israel, india, and pakistan have nukes it is hypocritical to say no one else can have them.

As a former israel supporter i have seen them repeatedly harm the united states and spy on us, sell our secrets to russia and china, etc and I have now changed my mind.

Hurry up and wipe israel off the map, please.

wouldn't it be counterintuitive for israel to strike iran during its air defense exercises?

i mean, maybe the iranians will get confused thinking that the israeli planes and missilies are just part of the simulation and in response they will fire simulated or non-live missile and dead artillery at the bombers and jammers. and --as a result, they'd just let themselves get pummled.

elements of surprise and confusion ....

stranger things ahve happened.

plus====the u.s. telling israel not to attack iran sounds to me like the u.s. has just given its full blessing to israel to attack iran. call me crazy.

Let the IAEA start investigation in Israel first.

The charade must stop.

All countries are equal

The US needs to be under IAEA investigation too for the uranium coated bombs and their nuclear facilities without proper safe guards

iran is wonderful!

imagine them, at a site "suspected" of being ...{iranian?}...'weapons grade'... {yes!}...demanding the same treastment as, say...{wait for it}...israel

so, they're just playing a FUK you card, here, for obvious propaganda points in the ME and around the world!

the missle launchers are totally gay, btw...L0L!!!

again, this is just a press release of wtf has already been agreed to

israel's cool with it, although they are so brainwashed, they will try to start something, b/c they always win

so i wouldn't expect this site to be a ground for contention for too much longer, BiCheZ!

then iran will fire a few missiles into palestine, and slewie will fire up the bong for everybody and the show will be over

trust me

this shld put the old torque in the ol' Ts!

"unsinkable" bonds do grrrrest with this "news-cycle" stuff, don't they?

"your" money?  shirley, you jest!

this is to "prove" that iran "doesn't have nukes"

a little lab demonstration for the ww.world.co_Me to see

the propaganda values are practically unspeakable, here!  this is ZIRP-by-remote for the banksters

the Treasury & FED could probably put another two generations under before the fuking weekend!  no "QE"-funding the paper-hang, either!

nobody's getting "forced" into bonds!  it's like the line to the women's room at a ballgame or concert!

plus, benzelbub's getting top dollar for the short-end bonds he's "moving out the curve"

everything will be surgical, except for a few deaths which might be more "random"

besides, every time israel atomizes a piece of iran, it's FUN!!!

i, personally have loved to blow shit up since my first little illegal firecracker!

plus, this would allow all parties to pretend iran was "safe" now, doncho see?

happy happy joy joy

No president has ever lost an election during war.

And since the CFR has been calling for an attack on Iran... and all the hardware moving there in March... and all the talk of war...

And Iran saying they will ``preemptively attack``...

All points toward a false-flag then full on attack on Iran.

They might even say Iran was allied with anti-Obama militias.

Remember that the government wants to pass the ARMS TRADE TREATY in July. And for now they don't have the votes... a nice false-flag would sure help things.

What is the "arms trade treaty"?

Wed, 02/22/2012 - 09:03 | 2184230 lolmao500

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arms_Trade_Treaty

It would ensure that no transfer is permitted if there is substantial risk that it is likely to:
facilitate terrorist attacks, a pattern of gender based violence, violent crime or organised crime;

Since all Americans are terrorists... no second amendment for you!

But that's not all :

We predict that a minimal Implementation Support Unit (ISU) will be approved, and will ultimately grow into a global BATFE on steroids.

UN troops coming to confiscate weapons...

http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-national/researchers-predict-un-ar...

We predict that small arms will be included, because that’s what this treaty is all about in the first place. But ammunition has, at best, a 50-percent chance of inclusion.

This could also ban AMMO.

Now you know why they have NDAA.

I have no pity for UN troops, or any other foreign troops, on US soil that are armed and being used against civilians.  They will be shot on sight.
