Iran Launches New Military Exercise, This Time Along Afghanistan Border
While the aftermath of the first 10 day Iranian wargame in the Straits of Hormuz is still lingering, especially in the price of oil, and the world is bracing itself for parallel exercises between a joint US-Israel operation and a concurrent Iranian effort in the weeks ahead, Iran is not waiting and has already started a brand new military exercise, this time inland and far closer to a key US strategic asset - Afghanistan (and its poppies). From Reuters: "Iran launched a military manoeuvre near its border with Afghanistan on Saturday, the semi-official Fars news agency reported, days after naval exercises in the Gulf increased tensions with the West and pushed up oil prices. Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the Revolutionary Guards' ground forces, said the "Martyrs of Unity" exercises near Khvat, 60 km (40 miles) from Afghanistan, were "aimed at boosting security along the Iranian borders," Fars reported." Naturally, this "reason" is bogus. That said, at this point we are at a loss as to which country it is that is desiring a military escalation more, because both sides appear hell bent on moving past the foreplay stage. Regardless, the whole situation is starting to smell more and more like the summer of 2008 when crude would move up in $5 increments on flaring tensions between Israel and Iran, coupled with Goldman predictions of near-quadruple digit Brent, only to have the entire energy complex implode in the aftermath of Lehman. The recent decoupling of oil from all other risk indicators (oil higher is not a good thing for the economy) is vaguely reminiscent...
In other news, the US Stennis, better known as the CVN-74, recently saved several Iranian fishermen from pirates:
Forces with the USS John C. Stennis aircraft carrier strike group, the target of Tehran's threat, rescued 13 Iranian fishermen from Somali pirates days after passing through the Strait.
Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi played down the political significance of the rescue.
"On some occasions, Iran has helped and secured the released of many other countries' sailors that had been caught by pirates," he told state-run Press TV.
"This is a humanitarian gesture and it is not related to the countries' relations with each other."
Of course, the liberation of one country's oil will most certainly be presented as a humanitarian gesture as well. But everything in due course.

Does AIR AMERICA ring any bells?.SOS,different day, year, peoples.
Yes Sir!!
Air America (Laos +++ Opimum)
Iran Contra after that.. directly after.. packed up and picked up shop over there and opened up shop over here.. some of the guys transitioned or made the jump!
Communism had a foot hold throughout Central and South America.. in the Hills / Woods / middle of nowhere.. Communism was gaining traction. The People had no Money, the People Children were hungry and Castro gave the KGB an all access pass.. although you will never here that in Heavy Rotation on Corporate Owned News Channels.
The war against Communism.. which was creeping up thru Mexico.. was on our Door Step.
The Caribbean as well was part of the push.
But people just think it was Nicaragua or maybe a little in El Salvador..
That War was HUGE!
And that takes us to Pablo Escobar..
Pablo Escobar.. by himself.. not only took over all the farms in South America and Central America.. but at the same time he fought off the Communists! And built schools and churches for a hobby.. all because he was tall for a Spanish guy?
The largest drug shipments to ever come into south Florida.. were on c-130’s and unloaded by Marines.
Given all the pain that drugs have caused America was it worth it? To the People? No.. but as for keeping We the People interested in anything but the truth and bringing down the few people who own us.. sure! It was money well spent! Enslave how any to drugs?? Got rid of the Threat of Communism! Not to mention the population control aspect of it all!
Yes Sir! Drugs are GREAT!! For those Few People who Own Us ALL!
Just google Barry Seal, former CIA pilot who flew drugs into Mena, AR. Many stories written on that topic. Barry was killed after he made an expose video telling of his exploits and showing old notes/flt plans with his notes on them as he flew operatives around Nicaragua. Here is one link with lots of background info for those interested.
Let's face it, the past several presidents were complete fakes and fraudsters who ran drugs. Unfrickin believeable.
http://www.oilempire.us/mena-arkansas.html
Great book here:

Barry Seal was trained at the same base in Lousisiana as Oswald.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Seal
[snip]
Early lifeSeal was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and began flying at the age of 15. In 1955, he received his pilot's license at the age of 16 and joined the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), whose members at the time also included Lee Harvey Oswald and David Ferrie.[2]
Seeing the Stennis 'creep' up on some pirates in their small craft to save the day must have been a sight to see.
It must have sucked to be those pirates. Talk about bad luck.
It was actually a Destroyer: USS Kidd. The pirates were then transferred to the Stennis by helicopter. Still, from the deck of a fishing skiff, a Burke class destroyer is an imposing sight.
All I can imagine is Tom Hanks on his wooden raft in "Castaway" when the cargo container ship passes by...
those were CIA posing as fishermen. they're not gonna say, CIA picked up after spying mission!
you know that at least one of the Pirates was like "Damn IT! they hate Iran!! what the fuck are they doing messing with us! we are helping them out!"
My guess is that the Stennis didn´t do shit. The intervention was probably done with a smaller escort vessel.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier_Strike_Group_Three
2 or 3 frigets? a destroyer or 2.. a hunter class.. stalking under water.. and I still leaving shit out..
and Stennis is a LITLLE Nimitz Class Boat!
Iran will give us the Oil, Period.
this is a big picture.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:US_Navy_110816-N-ZZ999-288_Ships_from_the_John_C._Stennis_Carrier_Strike_Group_are_underway_in_the_western_Pacific_Ocean.jpg
try this on..
you may know some or all of this.. but this is a tiddy, neat little package to be able to share this info in!

The rights of shareholders come before the rights, indeed the lives, of passengers—even in law. Safety has in general been subordinated to profit, in low-cost lay-out and maintenance of tracks and signaling systems, in overcrowded trains, and in many other ways. And the destructive effects of privatization for profit have been aggravated by a particularly damaging and cynical form of privatization, deliberately designed to make re-nationalization virtually impossible by fragmenting the system (the train services themselves, for instance, are divided into several different companies, and all of them are separate from the company that owns the tracks and signaling systems).

Yet some Dow stocks are going completely parabolic and are now trading at world record highs, and some never saw a bear market, ever!
http://www.wallstreetbear.com/board/view.php?topic=92872&post=336480
And not only that, despite:
1) New highs in U.S. Debt/GDP
2) Surging deficits now exceeding $15 trillion
3) Off balance sheet liabilities pretty much uncountable, could exceed $100 trillion
4) Various municipalities, cities, states, etc. choking on massive debts, each year on the verge of running out of money
Fixed income markets have had their best year ever, many instruments like muni-bond ETF's are now trading at record highs and are on the verge of going parabolic

2) Bond markets flying up faster than governments can print
3) Commodity prices like metals, natural gas, grains, etc. in severe downtrends

Yup Robo. US economy is heading toward a mushroom cloud of glory!
You've described my Biflation Conundrum to perfection: Paper Up (stocks, bonds, currency) - Real Economy Down (declining real incomes, declining household net worth, debt, municipal/state govs, banks cutting jobs due to declining revenues, Alcoa shuttering 12% of industrial capacity in a key industry, massive unemployed and on food stamps....and on....and on). And you're acting surprised, even relishing it!
Ask yourself simply this: could this all be happening under free market conditions, or is this somehow all being planned? :-)
Don't sniff too hard, the smell could kill ya

Oddly enough... As I read the list of your links & articles... It occured to me that THEY ARE... IN FACT... "end of the world" articles...

I'm with you all the way up to "IT WILL BE STUDIED EXTENSIVELY IN TEXTBOOKS FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS."
Much like the battle of Waterloo which is still studied today this will be mandatory study for centuries by our childrens childrens childrens childrens childrens. This one is going to hurt...a lot.
It will be studied, but not for the reasons that RobotTard implies.
I do not think you have very much knowlege about life. It's not measured by "the market".
Here are some Dow stocks for your record highs . . .
GE, down over 50% from 2007
BAC. down over 90% from 2007
AA, down 75% from 2007
That's 10% of the Dow 30, down 75% on average from their "record highs". There may be more; I didn't keep looking. I presume JPM has been similar.
WTI and Brent both set their all time record high closing (and average yearly) price Dec 31, 2010 ***AND*** Dec 31, 2011. This is your commodity downtrend.
I'm going to presume now that you're doing some sort of schtick in these comment threads, that actually have some value now and then. In that context, you won't be read anymore.
most glorious days in fina history? studied for next 100 years? What the fuck are you talking about dipshit?! ITS CALLED PRINTING MONEY BEYOND SPECIE...............there its been studied and figured out in less than one minute.
Other than the statement that this days will be viewed, in retrospect, as glorious, rather than vainglorious, what part of what RT said (and allowing for some disagreements on commodities, a stock or two, etc.) is false? The CBs will keep this party running no matter what.
Iran would like nothing better than to kick us when we are down. Us war machine got its budget severely cut, and we've meddled over there for so long....they got an axe to grind and a populace that supports the grinding.
Who cares if its embarassing for USA to tuck tail - its an election year. Obama cannot afford to pick a fight like this. Our milt is strong - but US is war weary.
Some candidates are getting massive support from troops (Aka Dr. Paul) to get out of dodge and come back to our shores.
This is the opportunity Iran has been waiting for - I imagine they will invade weakend neighbors (iraq, afganistan) and there will be very little US will be able to do about it, short of some saber rattling and some carpet bombing.
We will not be putting more troops on the ground. I can pretty much guarantee that.
Oh, and the embargo? get real. There will be a market - drugs in usa are illegal and there is still a market. Price may be high, their margins will be cut, but there are those who could care less about making deals with the devil (Im looking at you China).

Since its release in 1954, scholars have been aware of the Central Intelligence Agency’s involvement in the making of the controversial animated motion picture adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. In Orwell Subverted, Daniel Leab gives an authoritative and well-documented account of the CIA’s powerful influence on the film.
Recently, a number of works have been written—notably, those by Frances Stoner Saunders and Tony Shaw—that make reference to the underlying governmental control surrounding Animal Farm. Yet there is still much speculation and confusion as to the depth of the CIA’s interference. Leab continues where these authors left off, exploring the CIA’s dominant hand through extensive research and by giving fascinating details of the agency’s overt and subtle influences on the making of the film. Leab’s thorough investigating makes use of sources that have been excluded in past accounts, such as CIA papers retrieved through the Freedom of Information Act and material from the Orwell Archive. He also incorporates the testimonials of animators John Halas and Joy Batchelor and, most significantly, the previously unexplored archive documents of Animal Farm producer Louis de Rochemont.

When the CIA isn’t busy destabilizing other countries, they apparently like to help animation studios create cartoons. At least that’s the premise of an interesting new animation book I just found out about from FPS Magazine. The book, published by Pennsylvania State University Press, is Orwell Subverted: The CIA and the Filming of Animal Farm by Daniel J. Leab. It takes an in-depth look at the making of Halas & Batchelor’s Animal Farm, the first feature-length British animated film, and the CIA’s influence (and interference) during the production of that film. From the book’s description:
CIA Influence in Literature - Books
http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/CIAcultCW.html
This book provides a detailed account of the ways in which the CIA penetrated and influenced a vast array of cultural organizations, through its front groups and via friendly philanthropic organizations like the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations. The author, Frances Stonor Saunders, details how and why the CIA ran cultural congresses, mounted exhibits, and organized concerts. The CIA also published and translated well-known authors who toed the Washington line, sponsored abstract art to counteract art with any social content and, throughout the world, subsidized journals that criticized Marxism, communism, and revolutionary politics and apologized for, or ignored, violent and destructive imperialist U.S. policies. The CIA was able to harness some of the most vocal exponents of intellectual freedom in the West in service of these policies, to the extent that some intellectuals were directly on the CIA payroll. Many were knowingly involved with CIA "projects," and others drifted in and out of its orbit, claiming ignorance of the CIA connection after their CIA sponsors were publicly exposed during the late 1960s and the Vietnam war, after the turn of the political tide to the left.

but the Books.. are where the C.I.A. made HUGE gains into America's thinking and thusly, feelings.. on a great many subjects thru changing only a few view points.
a person who commits to reading 300 - 500 pages has invested a part of themselves.. let alone when you get to the 1,100 pages Plus!! of self brain washing.
In books you hate some people.. characters.. and love others.. and you can forgive some.. and some you cannot forgive.
this obviously only works on healthy people who have feelings and who are intelligent enough to comprehend the subject matter.
so if you have never felt anything while reading. you are stupid or sick or maybe both?
but this is how so many Americans.. were moved.. to feeling a certain way..
amazingly simple.
The Tavistock Institute is also a part of this effort, too. The goal? To totally destroy/remake Western Civilization.
I would say that the CIA fought to destroy communism only to promote fascism....a better model for global banking hegemony.
communism and fascism were both zionist creations. all part of a larger plan.
JW, from my experience the CIA is a global Masonic Skull and Bone, Rosemary's Baby producing, drug and gun running Warden for the demon(ic) banker(s), the ''Big L'' as in Louie (break the code of knowledge/enochian physics and do what thou will, thus be the whole/black hole of the law/new order of the age/in contempt of the sustaining revelation of the mercy of our Father in Christ) Cypher. ''District of (the goddess) Colombia'' ...which was shut down for business after an act of God (largest 5.9 quake in Virginia) came to the aid the Saints ...not long after Rosemary's Baby gave his cryptic ''raise the debt ceiling/sealing mark of the beast speech, which was not in FDR's War room ''this time'' (where he and a Supreme Court Jester secretly chose to sware him in as the new age and new world order host of the Presidental god, with the portait of fellow Mason, Benjamin Latrobe ( the infamous Grand Architect) inbetween them, as they declared the second oath without Lincoln's Bible after the public Inaugural/invocation of the ''god/Lucifer'' to enter the new host/Pharoah/President. The bastard President had the nerve to give a speech with the Washington Monument over his shoulder and ''through the White House window''/bottomless pit/black hole and began to express his contempt for labor in his cryptic manner by telling the public, which he can now put in prison torture and kill at will if they disagree, ...that it was still open for (and giviing everyone, rich or poor, free or bond) the business of the self devouring government of the global beast.
The nations are filled with hosts that are unsealed and counter intelligence is way beyond pathetic morons ''on the level'' laboring to secure the public trust. Government employees among the nations are beyond compromised, be it by the lawlessness of the rule of law(s) or the age old foolish selfish claim of dominion for the sake of one's own life and will (in contempt of the mercy of our Father in Christ) at the final expense of it.

The United States has asked Israel to check the possibility of pumping oil from Iraq to the oil refineries in Haifa. The request came in a telegram last week from a senior Pentagon official to a top Foreign Ministry official in Jerusalem.
The Prime Minister's Office, which views the pipeline to Haifa as a "bonus" the U.S. could give to Israel in return for its unequivocal support for the American-led campaign in Iraq, had asked the Americans for the official telegram.
The Art Cashin piece yesterday broke down this situational crisis well: it has to do with value. The value of their currencie in terms of the dollar is what will break the regime. It has been done before to other States, and it is the true reason for the embargo.
When the Iranian currencie falls 40%, which I expect it to in two weeks, their will be panic. Those that have currencie to change will still try to move into dollars, but those living day by day will be forced to buy daily items with devalued currencie. Their will be panic among the people. This will translate to panic among the regime.
By the end of January the panic will have set in. Look for Iran to be seeking revenge by February.

With all due respect... I don't see it as "panicky" in any way (though my interpretation might be wrong)...
I see it as more benign... Basically - I see it as a "dipping a toe in the water", of how the Iranians respond to their flow of oil (vis-a-vis, how EASY or DIFFICULT it is to just sell it to the Russians or Chinese & what sort of effect it will have overall, if any)...
IOW... Think of it this way... All the fucking "think tanks" out there play their scenario games all the time... They do simulations on the outcomes & produce probability matrices... I think this is all an exercise to get some CLARITY of some missing pieces of the algorithm...

How is it that Art Cashin suddenly has so much credibility?
He's almost 80 years old and totally ill-equipped to keep up with a market run by robots, sub-penny front runners, IBD momentum gunners, and constant TPTB manipulation

Nope.
Did he predict the biggest U.S. Treasury rally in history? Just 3 years after one of the most parabolic spikes ever?

Iran, Russia Replace Dollar With Rial, Ruble in Trade, Fars Says - http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-01-07/iran-russia-replace-dollar-with...
As the dollar -and the rest of the fiat currencies- are losing their value due to money printing, we are approaching a point where the world will simply reject them, and the West will not be able to have oil - at least not at "reasonable" prices by today's standards.
This is why the USA "must" attack all the oil states who try to break free from the dollar, and start accepting other means of payment - because no mater how much it costs them to go to war, it will cost them a lot more if the world finally gets of the "dollar standard", and the value of the dollar goes to almost zero.
The main thing that prevents the oil states from rejecting the dollar right now is their fear of being attacked by the USA - if that fear goes away, then they will be free to choose what currency to accept as means of payment.

That bloomberg article is incredibly well timed. Medvedev's idea my ass...

Iran announces new military exercise on the White House back lawn
iran has no choice but to stage war games whatever its reasons. the usa has slowly but surely nearly completed a strategic envelopment of iran with only the caspian sea the last remaining loose end. if the usa can figure out how to handle that body of water, it is checkmate and iran falls under usa hegemony....
I laffed at the subject title. To hell with the poppies, that fine dark Afghani hashish is where it's at someone told me.
i heard opium is usd as a binder giving the hashish a dark color and a gooey consistency.
Quit teasing.
Fars News agency is a disinfo site based in United States Washington.

Oh actually the Iranian Propaganda PresTV.ir does mention something..
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/219810.html
According to Google Earth its 36 miles from the Afghanistan border.
I still stand by my other point that Farsnews is based out of US and is a dis-info site.
The Iranian currency is already the de facto currency of choice in that entire region of Afghanistan and has been for years. You can draw lines on a map all day long but that area was invaded a long time ago...

the Iranian currency, in case you have not noticed, is the de facto ass wiping material and worth about the same as toilet paper per square inch
Reminds me of an old Roman saying about armies; You can do anything with spears, but sit on them.

***News Flash***
Iran announces new military exercises on Mars.
US appears to be looking to draw down forces in Afghanistan. If Iran creates/projects increasing tensions in Afghanistan, US may be forced to maintain presence at current levels. Force higher costs on the US at a time of budget cuts. Maintain instability in the area, other large foreign players will have better inroads into Afghan resources.
Also, this will keep everybody guessing as to what Iran will be capable of doing and where they can strike back. (aside from the usual arguments of Shia operatives wreaking havoc in the region and abroad... closing Strait of Hormuz... dumping USD [though it appears on media that the recent devaluation people are trying to get it back] etc.)
This just in. Iran has run out of diesel fuel supplies in eastern Iran, stranding 100's of T55 WWII Era tanks and APCs in the middle of no where.
If we can trade in our smart bombs for enough Marine riflemen we might have a chance...
it's a set up so the incumbent president can step in and pretend to resolve the crisis and secure re-election in 2012. Hope I am wrong.
Isn't this all too predictable? It is funny how we don't even question motives anymore, not really. We seem to accept as fact that corporations and banks will benefit and everyone else gets hosed. It seems that the public is incapable of outrage except when Michael Jackson gets drugs from his doctor that kills him (drugs he most likely asked for, I might add) or maybe when some loser kills some obscure woman in her early 20's while she is vactioning in the carribean. While these are certainly tragic, they have a small to insignificant impact on the wider population and yet we spend how many millions of combined hours eating that horseshit and talking about it with our friends and family...and at work! WTF?! What happened to the social contract and the government deriving its just powers from the consent of the governed? Oh, wait...we were too busy eating fecal matter and digesting it to care about the nature of government and the liberty of the governed. Let us all put on our american flag tee shirts and drink the kool-aid (if you can afford the fabric and sugar). 4 trillion dollars for a war in Iran...yeah, in today's dollars. Try adjusting that for inflation once Berwanker really gets to work. Rehypothecation (or just unlimited hypothecation), clawback, NDAA, SOPA and perpetual war are here to stay. Get ready to be brutally corn holed. You might want to plan your food storage so that you have a stick of butter to go with it.
What if the Iranians have nuclear weapons ?, they have long range missiles that would reach Europe easily.
I think its easy to say that USA would win a war against Iran, im sure they would, but at what cost ?
Obama will probably allow this situation to escalate until elections, then use this to win the elections.
I doubt war can be avoided at that point, as Obama will bark like a rabid dog to impress gun crazy Americans.
What if the Iranians have nuclear weapons ?,
China and Russia have all kinds of nuclear weapons, and both have warned America stay the fuck out of Iran.
I think its easy to say that USA would win a war against Iran, im sure they would, but at what cost ?
Probably turning Israel and a few American cities to glass & ash.
the dumb and the restless
From the article - "a key US strategic asset - Afghanistan".
As in the US owns Afghanistan? Controls Afghanistan?
And people wonder why the Taliban has so much support within Afghanistan. Those silly people would perhaps refer an independent state.
When the US leaves in 2014, Afghanistan will no longer be a US asset, even to the most zealous American, any more than Vietnam is a US asset today.
$1T spent (many say it is at least $3T or more) in Iraq and Afghanistan and nothing to show for it.
Asset indeed.
Time for an external audit.
the eastern border of Iran with Afghanistan is porous and exposed to the Herat area. it is no surprise that they would try to increase their defenses along that border - the surprise is that they have only begun to do so now. this could be fallout from the "downed drone" incident.
the rescue of the fishermen is interesting. it hits on two levels first the humanitarian aspect but also the intelligence aspect. what did you learn about the pirates? why are you guys "fishing" around here anyway?
another sidebar not covered in the article is the increase in hangings, persecutions, etc of dissidents as the mullahs sense their internal grip is weakening. i continue to hope this ends in the most anti-climactic fashion, i.e. green revolution and not a single bomb drops.
Hello ZHers!
I have a question! if the price of oil is soaring (lets say 5%) and the stock market Dow ( is down by 4%) does that mean the shares of Oil companies like CVX and XOM will rise or will they fall? If you have seen a similar scenarios can you please advice!
Thanks
it all depends on what a barrel of extracted iranian blood will cost, eg. 42gal/bbl divided by ~ 6qts/human = ~27 innocents boiled-down
do the math?
you tickle my balls!!!
They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far. I present to you the newest in Stark Industries' Freedom line. Find an excuse to let one of these off the chain, and I personally guarantee, the bad guys won't even wanna come out of their caves. Ladies and gentlemen, for your consideration... the Jericho.
Happy 2012!!!!!!!!
5 reasons "To Invade Iran"
#1 Obama will get the votes he needs while a sitting president in war-time [just ask bush#43]
#2 War Time makes military cuts exempt from the "Budget Cuts" in congress - *only cuts will be discretionary and entitlements [medicare/social security, etc.,etc.,]
#3 Kandahar Air Field [western battle flank] is a strategic us/nato military base that borders irans
#4 Religion - Shi'ite Iran & Iraq [problem is,... Iraq Sunni's/minority & kurd's /fringe minority, would create a civil war vacuum keeping iraq from getting involved from not helping their religous brethren] --- afghanistans taliban are tolerant of the shiites,... while the pashtuns further north are more compassionate --- bottom line is that they are all muslims, period!
#5 Heroin has nothing to do with iran's military exercise other than the fact 'OUR' america gets to keep it ready-for-delivery under karzai nose *[china is more concerned about the poppies destructive influence on its own population] --- china has openly said they will back iran,... but the caveat i'm only concerned with, is why, when russia can supply/offset their thirst for hydro-carbons
ps. geithner [our new secretary of state all rolled-up in one] will be in india [caste system], china, and russia offering deals, 'one nation under oligarchy rule can't refuse'
jmho
thanks tyler
