Iran To Take 'Necessary Measures' In Reaction To UK Embassy
Just headlines via Bloomberg from the Iran Foreign Minster Mehr:

This as Germany, Italy, and now France also call back their Ambassador from Iran.

The Brits probably arranged the storming of their own embassy to mask and bury the fact that the Iranian Parliament voted earlier to expell the UK Ambassador.
When the revolution happened 30 years ago, the Shah packed his bags and left rather hastily rather than turn on his own people (yes, yes I know about the Savak). Don't count on the same from those in office now. They will not go so easily. If they are willing to put down a revolution in their own country, you can be damn certain that if the country is attacked, they will retaliate, in which case I suggest you get exposed to oil.
On the other hand, one thing to note is that when you attack any country that has a significant history, regardless of whether the people hate their rulers, regime, or society, they will take pause to fight you first, and then go back to fighting their internal battles afterwards.
Iran already knows they don't possess the military wherewithall to confront or defend themselves against the US. This is why they have invested almost all of their resources in asymmetric means to retaliate (close the straight of hormuz, stir up the pot elsewhere, hizbollah, hamas, cause havoc in Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq, etc.).
The "students" who stormed the British Embassy were almost certainly Iranian government-sanctioned "Basiji". The fact that official Iranian security forces looked on, strongly supports that argument. It should be obvious to anyone that the UK has absolutely no sway over the Iranian government or its agents, and to suggest that the UK had the wherewithal to "arrange" the looting of its own Embassy is laughably preposterous, frankly.
Ooh, I wouldn't bet on it. The UK, US and Israel have been sponsoring separatist terrorism in Iran for years, according to many security experts. The UK has already gone on record in admitting that it trained the Khmer Rouge and the Taliban in years gone by. And a lot of analysts even say the SIS were behind the 7/7 bombings in London. They could certainly arrange for an angry crowd to turn up and mob an embassy.
