Ironic "Scariest Chart Ever" Redux - America Will Surpass 100% Debt To GDP On Halloween

Tyler Durden's picture

Earlier today we presented Bloomberg's Chart of the Day which represented the GDP and Debt per capita on a historical and projected basis, and we hysterically, and tongue-in-cheekly, dubbed it "the scariest chart ever" because it confirmed that at some point, very soon, US Debt will surpass GDP and never look back. We decided to dig into the actual numbers (cancelling out the per capital denominator as it is the same on both sides of the equation) and came to a very disturbing revelation: as of today, total US Debt, is $14.942 trillion (source), obviously an all time high. Q2 GDP as was reported by the BEA three weeks ago, was $15.012 trillion in current dollars. In other words, the spread between total GDP and total debt has now collapsed to an all time low $70 billion. Incidentally, this number was $1.8 trillion at the beginning of 2010. Then we decided to take a quick look at the upcoming bond issuance and find that tomorrow the Treasury will announce approximately $99 billion in 2, 5 and 7 Year bonds to be auctioned off October 25 through 27... With a very appropriate settlement date: October 31, elsewhere known as Halloween. Yes, ladies and gentlemen: All Hallows E'en will be doubly scary this year: for the first time since World War II, US debt will officially surpass GDP on Halloween 2011.

I have decided to be a vacuous American consumer.  I will have a beer with a koozie, name brand clothes, the latest shoes, some logos of main stream media, some makeup tricks and tape to make me look like i had a facelift.  Possibly some sports team merchandise.  Any other suggestions to complete my ensemble?

This won't solve the problem.  It will just drive prices up, which the people who would benefit from it the most would also find they get screwed the most at the same time, which would mean more protests and crap.

Let's face it, OWS is a bunch of dumb college students who don't want to have to pay for their schooling like everyone else has had to do who has ever gone to college.  I say dumb because the smart ones got scholarships and are studying during the protests.

Actually before they changed the laws, a lot of college kids would just keep borrowing their way to a masters degree or even a doctorate, and then declare bankruptcy immediatly upon graduation.

Stupid fucking human beings.  Always resorting to the same old stupid barbaric "solutions." The greedy pricks at the top have got this down to a science.  Gain control of money and property and government.  Rig and manipulate the system for all it's worth, untill you've accumulated all the wealh in the land and impoverished all the rest.  And when the system starts to fail because it is so nakedly and obviously corrupt and out of balance, start a war.  By the time the pawns, sheeple and slaves wake up it's too late.  Then it all comes crashing down, there is fear in the land, and the fascists are swept into power to clean up the mess and restore order.  Then it starts all over again.  This is a sad story, and repeating history over and over again is getting tiresome.

Boom, bust, war has been the profile for most all empires. The last empire that fell was the USSR. If I remember correctly, seems they were involved in a campaign in Afghanistan when the balloon went up. I think the empire that collapsed before the USSR was Great Britain which was also in a campaign in Afghanistan. I also recall that most all empires in history had their final campaigns in..well you can probably guess...

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land

Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold

The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and we'll do the rest

The blue bus is callin' us
The blue bus is callin' us
Driver, where you taken' us

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...fuck you

C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
C'mon, yeah

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

Then you have the ratio of increase in US debt to increase in GDP. This is currently at 5.5-6X, up from 3X in 2000 and 2X in 1980. So, this debt driven system is clearly running into ever diminishing returns which in turn calls for even greater debt increases and so on.

No, nobody but the sheeptards believes the goobermunt numbers. Real GDP is declining, has been for a long time. Last I heard, actual GDP is around $1.7 trillion. The lines crossed sometime around 2000 at the latest.

FWIW, the mythical $15 trillion GDP would require ~$60,000 of production FROM EACH & EVERY US CITIZEN. Personally, I only know of two people who would be in that club.

Root Programming: Building the Foundation

Take care to balance relative rates of behavior in the frequency domain, the process, and the time domain will take care of itself. Focus on the time domain, symptoms, and the incidence of black swan/white swan events will intensify.

So, you have root and peripheral programs, installed by yourself or others. If your root is seeking an outcome based on false assumptions and the peripherals conflict, you get false anxiety with positive feedback. If you expect things to fear, you will find them in spades. Some people drive around town looking for the word abuse and find it. Others find sex, drugs, etc. You find what you are looking for in a self-fulfilling prophesy, with increasing frequency. Always re-examine root assumptions when experiencing increasingly “bad” outcomes.

I can walk through Compton on a random night with a large bankroll in my pocket and experience no problem. On the second night I expect someone to be there waiting for me. On the third night I expect to walk out with less than I walked in with, unless I make the appropriate investment. Those with anxiety will not make it beyond a few blocks on the first night without losing something. People are people, whether in Compton or on Wall Street.

It doesn’t matter whether you want to party, raise a family or run a corporation, sustainable durable goods orders maximizes NPV opportunities for all parties. Why would you expect that outcome from unsustainable energy sources?  Intelligent parents are what you need, because they buy the product you want, in the form of homes, transportation, appliances, etc.

Look around. How many intelligent adults do you see that would provide a good example for children (not many)? Frequent the establishments they frequent to leverage the frequency. If you can reduce their rent or increase their quality of life in the workplace, do so. Respect real marriages and they will provide the means/process to whatever end you seek. And who knows, you may want to raise a family yourself someday.

Government can only steal your physical assets. You choose to participate or not, most often at a very early age. Sooner or later, the future becomes the present, and it is the nature of government to dismantle the family. Government is the vapor/fog producing the distillate. “those powers not granted…”

What is the true net future cost of present behavior? Where is the balance and what is its relationship to the point of perception? Where do you place the wall?

Adam Smith made his assumption for a reason; self-absorption is a black hole from which intelligence is distilled. Sometimes an ant is more than an ant. If you are absorbed by the past, it's difficult to pay attention to the present, let alone plan for the future.

Everything is related to everything.

NWO timing is perfect. Were 2011 was the crises year 2012 will be the crises deepening year with nincompoop politicians watching with their finger in their noses and the general public stupified about what hit them so freak’n hard .

The NWO plan is to end the dollar at the end of 2012 which maybe a bit later but they still got more than a year so they may pull that one off as well.

Protest everywhere but until now they’ve led nowhere. In Egypt the army backed by the US took over control and the situation only became worse. Massive protests in Greece but with the British agent Papandreou still in the saddle even more austerity measures have been put in place.

Governments in the US ane Europe are firmly in the pocket of the Bilderbergs together with the MSM just carry on their draconian measures as if the people simply don’t exist.

Wall Street protesters are easely co-opted and haven’t got the faintest idea how this system actually works and what kind of effective demands to put forward.

All and all a very succesfull year for the few NWO anointed again who are masters in sociology and exactly know who to delude the stupid mass in even more stupidity.

Example Occupy Wall Street – capitalism to blame? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wICEEuDM9mI

federal debt, the dish off year and it went
well. they proved they can steal, commit fraud,
loot and rape in public and then bill the
federal government for the party and all losses.
and then blame the government for the fuck up!
.
that year, 2007, is five years from 2012.
what is the significance of five years?
something elemental must correlate.
something matured? needs to mature?

Total government revenue (ie revenue from all sources, income tax, corporate tax, etc) was actually lower as a % of GDP at the peak of WWII than it is today. http://www.usgovernmentrevenue.com/revenue_chart_1902_2015USp_12s1li0181...

It's extremely unlikely we'll be able to increase revenue as a % of GDP. We've crossed over into a positive feedback loop that results in the destruction of the US government's ability to spend without destroying the dollar. So it's game over, when and what get get as a replacement is the only issue now.

It´s a way overindebted system and its very  foundation - interest rates - is controlled by the govt. and its financial bedfellows. So, they purposedly keep the foundation weak by low rates while the overhead pressure from increasing debt keeps getting heavier. This hopeless arrangement has been showing some serious signs of cracking in the last decade. The stock market has crashed by 50% twice. Crashes of this magnitude or larger are likely to increase in frequency over the next years.

I thought we eclipsed the 1:1 ratio when the hacks raised the debt ceiling.  Oh well, this ratio will continue to climb until the FR runs out of paper and ink.  They will continue to buy new and rolling Ts with decreasing valued dollars so this gig may not end for a while.  I can see it now, if it is not obvious yet, the FR's new slogan will not only be "lender of last resort, but the new and improved buyer of last resort".

As they print more funds, the value of the greenback will decline along with the issuance of more Ts to buy due to rising costs and budgets. Sounds like a dog chasing its own tail and the green mile to hyperinflation but the value of the debt to the bondholder will continue to decline.  But the FR doesn't care because they have their own accounting rules.  What's mark to market anyway without a market?  Sounds like a last ditch plan to me but what do TPTB have to lose at this point.  Lever up bitchez!

gdp is debt. federal debt, bonds, are debt.
they must correlate, they are the same thing,
just from different temporal perspectives. so the
meaning of the chart is time is a concept that
offers the imagination a field of fancy, tangential
perspectives prone to evapoflation. hubris and elevation
revealed.
but seriously, the chart is telling me
the basis is asserting its nature. the root will
not be denied its truth and the core of its being.
debt will not be denied its day in the sun!
it screams, " know me " !
or, since 2007, the tab and bill for public/private insider stealing, looting, rape and public genocide
and disfigurement has been transferred to the federal
treasury tab to allow the continuing same to proceed
without recognizing the fiscal horror which is satan
himself relentlessly pounding the innocent children

Big surprise.  This is what happens when long term issues are put aside in order to address short term, political 'hot button' issues that politicians focus on to extend their careers in DC.

random staffer:  'Sir, this looks worrying.  If we don't address this issue now... well .. extrapolating the figures over the long term the results, the results lookdevestating'.

politician:  'You don't know DC, son.  Put that one on the old credit card and let's refocus on the issues of the times.  Elections coming up in a few years, you know.  Your resume would look even better if you supported a winning candidate.'

rs: 'uh, er, um, but...'

politician: 'who butter's your bread, son'

rs: 'okay, I'll file it away and start working on our gays in the military position'

politician:  'ata'boy!'

Basically a house of cards that has been held together with flimsy dental floss because there is no 'leadership' within Congress that wants to tackle the LONG TERM issues.  This is exactly what many very wealthy people do when presented with problems in their home life... THROW MONEY AT THE PROBLEMS.  Money makes the problems go away -- pseudo suicidal daughter and wayward son -- throw money at them, it makes it all better.  Negleted and pissed off wife?  Buy the bitch a new mink coat.  This works until the money runs out... but when your accessory can print money at will.. well.. the money never runs out, so spend it at will on any and everything.  The one problem.  While it may not 'run out', it will eventually becomes worthless.
