It's Official: Obama Is Now The Worst American President As His Approval Rating Plunges Far Below Carter's

Tyler Durden's picture

We doubt many will be surprised by the latest presidential polling update from Gallup, and certainly not the record nearly 50 million Americans on foodstamps, but here it is nonetheless, from US News: "President Obama's slow ride down Gallup's daily presidential job approval index has finally passed below Jimmy Carter, earning Obama the worst job approval rating of any president at this stage of his term in modern political history. Since March, Obama's job approval rating has hovered above Carter's, considered among the 20th century's worst presidents, but today Obama's punctured Carter's dismal job approval line. On their comparison chart, Gallup put Obama's job approval rating at 43 percent compared to Carter's 51 percent." One can only imagine what would happen to Obama's ratings if indeed the Iranian hostage situation escalated and the president was forced to get involved, in addition to oil spiking to "doomsday" levels of course as Pimco's worst case predicts: "Back in 1979, Carter was far below Obama until the Iran hostage crisis, eerily being duplicated in Tehran today with Iranian protesters storming the British embassy. The early days of the crisis helped Carter's ratings, though his failure to win the release of captured Americans, coupled with a bad economy, led to his defeat by Ronald Reagan in 1980." And while some may say this is merely a one time blip, a longer-term average shows otherwise: "Gallup finds that Obama's overall job approval rating so far has averaged 49 percent. Only three former presidents have had a worse average rating at this stage: Carter, Ford, and Harry S. Truman. Only Truman won re-election in an anti-Congress campaign that Obama's team is using as a model." On the other hand, neither Ford nor Carter has such erudite opponents as Herman "I did not sleep with those 999 women" Cain.

Here are the job approval numbers for other presidents at this stage of their terms, a year before the re-election campaign:

  • Harry S. Truman: 54 percent.
  • Dwight Eisenhower: 78 percent.
  • Lyndon B. Johnson: 44 percent.
  • Richard M. Nixon: 50 percent.
  • Ronald Reagan: 54 percent.
  • George H.W. Bush: 52 percent.
  • Bill Clinton: 51 percent.
  • George W. Bush: 55 percent.

That's right. Not one, but both Bushes...

And here it is graphically via Gallup.

LOLing my balls off literally. +1

What part of +1 did you misunderstand, why would you junk a person for a compliment? I'm very fragile....

It's not what you thought, or now it's not what you want, but you have rhetoric so you know what you have to do. Fucking do it.

This just in.......the DISAPPROVAL rating is the lowest in history. Oops.  How else can you explain the "higher than expected" spike in consumer confidence.  BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

on Rasmussen, which is the only real polling place to listen to, his numbers seem to have bottomed out in the -20s for now.

However, his approval there is 39 as well; he's truly a miserable piece of shit President who is completely out of step even with what the public wants to hear.  Killing OBL has already bled right out of his approval and if the economy continues downward like this, he'll slow bleed into the mid 30s.  That's 2nd term Busch country

marsdefIAnCe's picture

Killing OBL?  Missed the reports that the only chopter that landed in the raid blew up after take off?  Have not seen Obama and Osama's faces overlaid?  Didn't know his mother spoke Arabic?  Ever heard of double agents?  Or revelations 13?  Maybe him delcaring he was God on 9-11-11?  What about the last global financial crisis, 666 years ago?

Time to catch up, trav.

Haywood Jablowme's picture

I said it awhile back and I'll say it again, Obama will go down as the worst president in USSofA history.  Chalk another one up for good ole' Haywood...

Probably why you'll never see a minority as POTUS ever again.  Card well played by the elitists for their own fucking agendas.

AldousHuxley's picture

who cares. most politicians' approval ratings drop after they get elected from overpromising and under delivering. That's the game.

You have interest of a few lobbysts paying you but you need 51% of the vote, so to the rest you tell them what they want to hear. Of course the result is only the lobbysts are satisfied, but come election time, politician will come campaigning with some free junkets and promises again.

Obama only helped banks get tx subsidies and helped maintain the status quo just like the ripoffblicans.

If half of Americans chipped in $1 and formed their own lobbying group, they'd have $150,000,000 fund to bribe any politician to listen to them over any lobbying group. What's holding the middle class back is that they are naive and believe that game is fair.

You youngsters are forgetting Woodrow Wilson: FED + income tax + WW I. And he got a second term. & So, facing a split-wide-open Repub Pty, will Zero. But it won't last long. First Tuesday in November, 2012. Then: 60 days to Fort Sumter.

Considering that you're a racist pig and you want black people neutered, it is not surprising in the slightest that you think he's "truly a miserable piece of shit President."

No doubt, you thought he was a "piece of shit" before he even started.

Max Fischer, Civis Mundi

BooMushroom's picture

While it may or may not be true that he is racist, and/or thinks black people should be neutered, you're probably right, that he *did* think Obama was a piece of shit before he even started.

Notice, though, that he was right: Obama has indeed turned out to be a "truly miserable piece of shit President."  And there were many many signs that he would be, visible to anyone who cared to look.  Before he even started.

Facts: 1.  Ad Hominem: 0

buyingsterling's picture

It used to be that a goodly part of that 39% would be idealistic bleeding hearts, convinced Obama was doing good, somehow, and that he cares more than the rascally republicans. Now this cohort is smaller. Everyone is in it for themselves, greasing their own skids. It's all about the maintaining, the looting, and the leeching.

Too late, the host is waking and the parasites are really digging in. One side (the productive part of the population that provides real value for people who want it and will pay for it) is on the ropes. That side isn't full of stupid or craven people - though some of them are. It's mostly trusting people who were raised to believe that the government had the peoples' best interests at heart, the dispute was how to realize them. Now they're waking up to the stench of tyranny, and they don't like it. They know it's not about protecting the rich or poor, they're starting to see that it's about looting, controlling, de-fanging, and, ideally, corrupting almost everyone.

We don't know just what to do about it, yet, aside from protecting ourselves and our little ones. But we know this system is imploding. We aren't going to have both domestic tranquility and the $5 trillion in banker bonuses that are expected to be paid in the next decade. Everyone in the know sees that these are mutually exclusive possibilities. So reality is taking hold, and it's painful, and the pain will increase in direct proportion to the clarity of reality. But that has a limit; the 'powers that be' have laid their plans well in advance, but no battle plan ever unfolds as anticipated. We're going to see the goblins in their full regalia just before everything gets real chaotic again. But we'll have true clarity eventually. Victory means endless toil, but with heart and hope, defeat means endless toil in a misery that we will eventually learn to accept, Dr. Zhivago style, or worse.

What can you personally do? Aside from the obvious, support people who are doing what you (we) can't or won't do - taking the fight to the globalists. One of two things is true with regard to your possible contribution to the effort: 1. The doomers like me are spouting shit and we're wasting our money on the likes of Ron Paul, everything will work our more or less fine. 2. Most of what you have and own is going to lose most or all of its value in the coming years, and you will wish you'd done more when you still could. Please support Ron Paul, anti-globalist congressional candidates,, (free trial ongoing through Nov 31st), Alan Watt, etc. Whoever is reaching people with the basic truth about our situation deserves our support. Thanks.

Obama doesn't care.  He does what he is told.  He follows the plan.  The next installment will do the same.  I may lean toward the disbelievers, but you really buy that obl story?

only blacks who join the elite government ranks are the ones who are willing to betray their own and serve the white masters.

Slaves are rising up so they replaced the plantation foreman with a blackface, but the owners in the mansion are still all white.

Jews aren't "white". They're Asiatics. That's where their smarts, their ruthlessness, and their collectivism comes from. Too bad - for them - that they decided to debt finance the Globalization Project.

This is just Washington and the media. They prepare for the steepest rise in approval rating in history in order to create some news.
Carter was a good one, I thought. Perhaps a little soft spoken and he did not have 16 guns in his wardrobe, but hey: Nobody's perfect!

To be honest, Obama does not seem to resonate with the public as much as he used to, and a switch of parties is occasionally necessary to restore faith in our government and the political process. However it’s worth noting that there is a place and time for each party. The Republicans are strong leaders and are needed in a time of war, to stand up to the terrorists and be tough. Mitt Romney fits this role perfectly, and is furthermore willing to face down Iran EVEN if it means war. That is why he is rightfully the front runner in the republican primary. The democrats on the other hand are needed to be compassionate and care for the poor by providing welfare out of the kindness of their hearts. I personally believe that a compassionate democrat is able to deliver more effective fiscal stimulus programs to get this economy moving again, but Iran is certainly a threat and one could certainly make the case that this is a time for a strong republican.

Are you fucking serious?  What the hell are you doing here if you believe in the MSM?  Go back to MSNBC or Fox.

Fuck, every time? This guy MDB is waste of energy. He thinks he's funny. IGNORE.

Romney?  LOL

Yeah, let's do away with Obama and elect a white/mormon version of Obama!  That'll solve all of our problems!

PS why do you think Iran is a threat to America?  Are you Jewish?

ratso's picture

Tyler - you know better.  Ratings are not the measure of a president - history is.

Obama will turn out to be one of our best presidents given the challenges that he has had to face and the ridiculous , infantile congress he has had to deal with

Go OBAMA  for 2012 - four more years!

Classix.  Now we have seen Superman (MDB) and Clark Kent (MDB as ratso) at the same time.

Clearly they are not...I repeat NOT the same.  Now move's some grain to feed you my sheep.

Ceteris paribus's picture

MDB you can demand all you want they don't give a shit.

MillionDollarBonus_'s picture

Although I share your sentiment, I can't help feeling that we are to blame as voters for our own disappointment. As voters, we should be DEMANDING MORE from our politicians in order to get results. Obviously it is up to the politicians themselves to allocate resources optimally, but we can certainly make an impact by electing smart, compassionate and strong leaders.

Uncle Sugar's picture

I like it when MDB posts. I can just junk them without having to read them anymore. Sweet.

MDB.. you are the best. But seriously, you are right, we all are in fact to blame, and the limp activism via OWS is telling.

Why are Republicans considered the war party, when Democrats dragged us into more wars with greater casualties?

I do not want to argue about "passionate democrats" but Obama went much further than that. His policies de facto transform the country in welfare state where majority of population directly depend on government handouts. On top of that he seems to determine to make whatever in his power to hurt US manufacturing (Boeng plant in South Carolina, recent episode with pipeline with Canada, his attitude to shale gas etc). Obama is smart and very dangerous demagogue who, in my opinion, trying to transform the country in Marxist paradise where the only thing that matter is government nomenklatura and Obama is a "Dear leader" subject to official admiration by populace.

In my opinion, Obama is the worst thing that happened to America since second world war.

Hobbleknee's picture

It didn't happen over night, dude.

BooMushroom's picture

So you're a compassionate guy, and you see hungry people.

So you go to a grocery store and see food.  They won't give it to you for free - they say they worked for it and it's theirs and you have no right to take even a portion of it.  You bust out your AK47 and absolutely, positively,  kill every motherfucker in the room.  You take all the food and distribute it to the poor.

You go on down the road, and you see that there are no more grocery stores, because they saw the increased risk of compassionate guys with AK47s and went out of business.  Nobody wants to get into the business, either.

So you go further down the road, and you find a farm.  They won't give it to you for free - they say they worked for it and it's theirs and you have no right to take even a portion of it.  And once again you and your AK47 absolutely, positively,  kill every motherfucker in the room.  You take all the food and distribute it to the poor.  You're just doing the compassionate thing.  You're a compassionate guy!  And the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one.  Right?

All the farmers bail and leave their farms, becuase the compassionate guys with AK47s are everywhere.  There is no food.  People starve by the millions.  Nobody wants to get into the business, either.

So you enslave a bunch of "criminals" who were "hoarding" the remaining food, and force them to work the farms.  But they're not farmers, so they don't raise much food, and the extra taskmasters required to run the farms eat much of it.  Millions more starve.

Now your country only has two things to offer to the world - poor people and thugs with AK47s.  Congratulations.  You've turned your country into sub-Saharan Africa.  Maybe you can sell some slaves.

Obama's 2nd term game plan is supposed to be a big fat mystery. Where did you source this from? It's even written to be understood by his goons, with clear, simple instructions in the language they share. I think you might have at least have a copyright violation here, maybe even grounds for a visit by the secret police.
