It's Official: Obama Is Now The Worst American President As His Approval Rating Plunges Far Below Carter's

Tyler Durden's picture

We doubt many will be surprised by the latest presidential polling update from Gallup, and certainly not the record nearly 50 million Americans on foodstamps, but here it is nonetheless, from US News: "President Obama's slow ride down Gallup's daily presidential job approval index has finally passed below Jimmy Carter, earning Obama the worst job approval rating of any president at this stage of his term in modern political history. Since March, Obama's job approval rating has hovered above Carter's, considered among the 20th century's worst presidents, but today Obama's punctured Carter's dismal job approval line. On their comparison chart, Gallup put Obama's job approval rating at 43 percent compared to Carter's 51 percent." One can only imagine what would happen to Obama's ratings if indeed the Iranian hostage situation escalated and the president was forced to get involved, in addition to oil spiking to "doomsday" levels of course as Pimco's worst case predicts: "Back in 1979, Carter was far below Obama until the Iran hostage crisis, eerily being duplicated in Tehran today with Iranian protesters storming the British embassy. The early days of the crisis helped Carter's ratings, though his failure to win the release of captured Americans, coupled with a bad economy, led to his defeat by Ronald Reagan in 1980." And while some may say this is merely a one time blip, a longer-term average shows otherwise: "Gallup finds that Obama's overall job approval rating so far has averaged 49 percent. Only three former presidents have had a worse average rating at this stage: Carter, Ford, and Harry S. Truman. Only Truman won re-election in an anti-Congress campaign that Obama's team is using as a model." On the other hand, neither Ford nor Carter has such erudite opponents as Herman "I did not sleep with those 999 women" Cain.

Here are the job approval numbers for other presidents at this stage of their terms, a year before the re-election campaign:

  • Harry S. Truman: 54 percent.
  • Dwight Eisenhower: 78 percent.
  • Lyndon B. Johnson: 44 percent.
  • Richard M. Nixon: 50 percent.
  • Ronald Reagan: 54 percent.
  • George H.W. Bush: 52 percent.
  • Bill Clinton: 51 percent.
  • George W. Bush: 55 percent.

That's right. Not one, but both Bushes...

And here it is graphically via Gallup.

Actually he's the most UNPOPULAR, not the worst. The worst was probably George W. Bush, but Harding, Hoover, Grant, Obama, and a few other can compete.

REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS PASS NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT

Here's how the vote turned out:

DEMOCRATS VOTE YES = 95

DEMOCRATS VOTE NO = 90

REPUBLICANS VOTE YES = 227

REPUBLICANS VOTE NO = 6

--------------------------------------------------

Of course RON PAUL was one of the six that voted no.  Anyone who is what I call a CONSERVATIVE WANNA-BE who thinks they are something by regurgitating what Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hanity says... you might as well get a frontal lobotomy.  Either way your dead from the neck up.

I don't adhere to either party, but here we can see what the REPUBLICANS TRUE COLORS are.

Time to get ready for the BIG COLLAPSE.  As you can see those in govt are preparing for....I sure hope each and everyone of you are as well.

I am sure I will get a serious number of NEGATIVE VOTES on this post.  Can't make everyone happy all of the time....LOL

Right. I believe that the legislation linked to above is the current incarnation of the law which is expiring. There's a new version currently before the Senate which supposedly includes language which will make it possible for the armed forces to arrest anyone, anywhere, anytime without warrant or trial.

According to my public school social studies classes I believe the bill has to originate in Congress, be passed there, and then head to the Senate - where it currently sits.  Senatorial vote within 48 hours and Obama will sign it like his life depends on it.  His life probably does.  No Presient can be this corrupt without a proverbial gun to his head.

Speaking of regurgitating - did you actually read the Referred in Senate version? What specific section of this bill should concern us? For the last 48 years there has been a NDAA. All it does is specify the budget and expenditures of the US DOD. There is nothing in this bill that points to some extreme measure the government wants to take because of an impending "Big Collapse." That's a bunch of BS

Tue, 11/29/2011 - 18:05 | 1927651 chubbar
chubbar's picture

By "referred in senate version" do you imply that there are revisions not yet in the mainstream media? I've read the one on the .gov website and if you refer to sections 1031 and 1032 you will find the language that we are talking about.

Here is an excerpt from an article covering this language. If the link in the excerpt doesn't work then click on the link at the bottom or google S1867 and you can access the actual bill there.

"

If enacted, sections 1031 and 1032 of the NDAA would:

1) Explicitly authorize the federal government to indefinitely imprison without charge or trial American citizens and others picked up inside and outside theUnited States;

(2) Mandate military detention of some civilians who would otherwise be outside of military control, including civilians picked up within the United States itself; and

(3) Transfer to the Department of Defense core prosecutorial, investigative, law enforcement, penal, and custodial authority and responsibility now held by the Department of Justice.

The Washington Post of course did its part to make sure it appeared this bill was about “terrorists”, who could be held indefinitely, who could be subject to extraordinary rendition (transferred to countries like Egypt for extensive torture) and glossed over or totally avoided mentioning the fact that the provisions of this bill could be applied, and are actually intended to be applied to US citizens on US soil.

The language of the bill is intentionally very broadly written to allow later interpretations that will be used to redefine yet again, our rights, our protections, striking each one down under the false flag use of “the war of terror”.

In the last several years we have seen the militarization of our local law enforcement under the direction of Homeland Security. We now have major US cities armed with military tanks, drones, and outfitted like star wars storm troopers; all for use against US citizens in their own communities. Local law enforcement has been remade into extended military units to enable them to become a working military unit in tandem with military control. These law enforcement units have ceased operating as “protect and serve” civil service operations and instead have become direct threats to the communities which are forced to endure them. The escalating violence against the citizens, the abrogation of rights, the violation of standing laws and the protection provided to these units by the courts should have us all demanding an end to Homeland Security interference in local law enforcement activities and reverting law enforcement back to one of community protection and service.

We have seen the creation of the White House Rural Council along with other newly created agencies that all include the military as part of their structure. This is no accident. There is no plausible reason the military would be included in any Council making preparations to unlawfully enter into the states, unless military action against the citizenry was anticipated.

S.1867 is a catch all bill. Its intention is to make legal (not lawful) the crime of unlawful detention without due process. By extension, the bill would condone the practice of extraordinary rendition for the purpose of torture of US citizens who could be kidnapped from our streets without being charged with a crime, having access to the courts for redress (the bill condones the military holding tribunals outside of the US court system at its discretion) and holding US citizens indefinitely without charging them with any crime.

This bill is one of the final steps necessary in striking down any remaining Constitutional protections or rights, all under the phony war of terror being perpetrated by our own government against its own citizens. This is not a right or left, Democrat or Republican plan……they are all in it together. They will all vote for it together knowing full well that it is an assault on the people of the US.

In my opinion, it is an open declaration of war against the people by our own government."

The Senate version has not been voted on yet.

There isn't a section 1031 in the act.

Section 1032 says: Applicability to United States Citizens and Lawful Resident Aliens-(1) UNITED STATES CITIZENS- The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to citizens of the United States.(2) LAWFUL RESIDENT ALIENS- The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to a lawful resident alien of the United States on the basis of conduct taking place within the United States, except to the extent permitted by the Constitution of the United States.

I give up. It seems like misinformation gets spread on the web but no one takes the time to really validate it.

Paul is running a brilliant campaign to date. Everything is coming to him in terms of the global situation so all he really needs to do is avoid the pitfalls that keep bringing down the other contenders around him. Just being quiet during debates is actually boosting his numbers. Slowly but surely the interest is growing, he just has to peak at the right moments.

Next up (assuming Cain is now effectively gone) is Newt Gingrich????!!!!!

The thing  really boosting Ron Pauls numbers are the reports the mainstream media is ignoring him.   Everybody loves an underdog, but more importantly, the idea that a particular candidate isn't getting a fair shot because he's "blacklisted" is reprehensible to most people in this day and age.  I believe the unfairness, perceived or otherwise, plays to RP's advantage as it causes people reach out and try to understand exactly what is so off putting to that media, and in doing so, it enlightens those same folks to RP's message.  It's a good plan, actually.

Having awaken to much of what the presidency has meant while the true power of the fed has been masked I would say these ratings would be a lot different had the sheeple knew then what sheeple are waking up to now.

Having said that no president other than Jackson for being the last president to fend off a central bank and JFK for trying to end the fed should have a rating over 50 because of their involvement in destroying the democratic ideals this country was founded upon.

We have a winner!!  People simply won't accept that they have been living under a one world government since the official estblishment of the Federal Reserve that was only made stronger by the U.N.  A real president for the people would be a REAL threat to the private banking cartel known as the Federal Reserve.

What would Obama have accomplished if he had been given a country in the same shape as the one given to Bush?  Or if the GOP had actually worked with him instead of obstructing EVERYTHING.   I'll grant you that Obama has not performed very well, but IMO it's because he is still doing the bidding of the financial elites instead of protecting the average American citizen.  Obama is simply a continuation of Bush in many key ways.

Who would do a better job than Obama?  Gingrich?  Romney?   Don't make me laugh.

So in effect you are saying the Obama serves the same masters as Bush so if I take this to its logical conclusion this means that you are complaining that Obama inherited the same economy he would have given himself if he had been president instead of George Bush?

Ron Paul.

You can laugh at the too, but with Ron Paul you'll be laughing all the way to the bank -- first to give the plutocracy the heave-ho and then to avail yourself of sound money and the attendant miracle of compound interest.

It is unfortunate that Carter's dismal ratings won us Ronald Regan, that creepy old bugger.  He began the process of shipping American jobs and manufacturing overseas.  He gave away our way of life, the judas. Thank God he was too senile during his second term to actually function and Nancy called the shots or who knows what we would have ended up with. If your lifestyle is slipping you can thank him in Hell. I hope they stuffed that that old vampire's mouth with garlic and buried him face down with a stake through his heart.
