$15,OOO,OOO,OOO,OOOBAMA! - It's Official: Total US Debt Passes $15 Trillion

Tyler Durden's picture

Too sad for commentary, but here is some math: total US debt has increased by 41.5%, or $4.4 trillion, from $10,626,877,048,913 on January 20, to $15,033,607,255,920, under Obama as president.

(as a reminder the most recently updated debt ceiling is $15.194 trillion)

Only 5.3 billion ounces of gold mined in human history.  So 8.5 trillion ounes is beyond the realm of possibility.  Maybe, we can find that amount it in an American Dream.

Funny isn't it....back in early 2009 everyone was saying "just let me recoup these losses, and I will never play the markets again".  Here we are with ALL the problems just bigger, more complex, fragile and opaque....and people still have their wealth back in the markets (at least most people).  How stupid are people???????????

This is a great interview with Kyle Bass - from 2010 I believe.  It is long (1 hour) but probably one of the best, insightful discussions I have ever seen.

From this euro side  of the Pond FRNs & short term Treasuries look attractive now.

This debt is just replacing credit accounts - reducing levarage.

However its what you do with the debt that counts - if you continue to blow it on crap America will implode the entire planet.

Then investments become slightly different in character.

Fucking shit. That is disgusting.

5 damn trillion and ALL FOR WHAT?!

Gawd, at this rate we will be at 7 to 10 billion by goddamn election day 2012 with a bloody craptastic continuing resolution deeming the budget as passed on a voice vote at night.

This kind of bullshit is making me ANGRY. Maybe angry enough to fight.

WHY?

Because George Washington on his Resignation Speech back in the 1700's said for our Government not to spend more than it borrows. If you recall, back in those days it was several times when the Gov't did just that.

While I have to balance my motherfucking check by goddamn book. Each month.

Makes me half tempted to disconnect the phones, net and crap and just go cash and white lightning only along with the necessary stuff somewhere in the faraway land where there is food to shoot, fish to catch, trees to cut and things to do making a proper life without this moneypit.

 RANT. RANT. RANT.

Compared to the roar of the stupid Protests and the thud of boots in time with shields making drumbeat before they are cleared out, it's amazing how anyone can think at all for a while in quiet and peace.

"When George Bush came into office, our debt -- national debt was around $5 trillion. It's now over $10 trillion. We've almost doubled it. ... But actually I'm cutting more than I'm spending so that it will be a net spending cut."

The elite bankers who own the FED think they have squared the circle.

within 30 years (according to the exponential function we are discussing here) they could easily take our country, without force. The upside is that we'd probably get some decent politicians. They execute people like corzine over there. There is a reason the highest ranks of the military are saying the debt is the biggest threat to national security. It is the same reason active and retired military support Ron Paul more than all other candidates combined.

"barry X, the abandoned b a s t a r d of an illicit union between a deranged, teen aged, communist w h o r e and malcolm X, has his instructions from london to permanently destroy America and her economy via debt, debase her currency, euthanize the greatest generation, demoralize her military via homosexuality, exhaust it in a wild goose chase in the "graveyard of empires", and disarm it via fiat. He does hate America, especially White America, and does love his works of treason and destruction. It is through this that all his actions may be understood.

I hope the military honors their oaths, steps up and eliminates this a s s h o l e. This son of a w h o r e is the walking definition of a "domestic enemy" and we won't sit still anymore for his treason.

NEVER EVER forget the fellow travelers of the malevolent mainstream media that conspired to foist this muslim nation wrecking b a s t a r d on America are responsible. They intentionally sold us this traitor.

One thing is for sure.  The guys and gals in Washington have either spent too much on stuff like a needless war machine, or taxed the elites too little, and as a result have mortgaged all of our and our decendents futures.  All for the sake of avoiding "The Next Great Depression" while making the wealthy even wealthier.  Gotta wonder, though, if we had right-sized our debt to, say, $10 trillion instead of $15 trillion, how we'd be feeling about the long food lines, urban riots, and massive crime spree that would have already infected our nation's depressionary environment.  That wouldn't have been fun, but what's ahead of us ain't any fun either.

Obama administration quietly bracing for debt supercommittee failure

http://www.leap2020.eu/GEAB-N-59-is-available-Global-systemic-crisis-300...

(...)

Let’s keep in mind that the state of US private debt is far worse than in Greece! In this context, we are not far from a panic-inducing situation abount the United States’s capacity to repay its debt other than with a devalued currency. The end of 2011, then, will see many US debt-holders seriously considering this ability and of the precise moment when it might suddenly be called into question by all financial players (32).

What could the United States offer after the failure of its “Supercommittee”? Not much, particularly in an election year! On the one hand it was created because other actions were not working, and on the other the issue is not so much one of amount but of the very ability to undertake a significant and sustained reduction. The failure of the “Supercommittee” will rightly be seen as evidence of this inability of the US in tacking the deficit problem.

In terms of the amounts at stake, a quick calculation by a USreader of GEAB gives some sense of how much the “efforts” undertaken to reduce the budget deficit are ridiculous in relation to the needs : Treating the US federal budget as that of a household, things become abundantly clear. Simply remove 8 zeros for budget that comes to mean something for the average citizen:

Annual household income (income tax): + 21,700
Family expenses (federal budget): + 38,200
New credit card debt (new debt): + 16,500
Past credit card debt (federal debt): + 142,710
Budget cuts already made: - 385
Budget reduction targets of the Supercommittee (for one year): - 1,500

As can easily be seen, the Supercommitte (like Congress last August) cannot even agree to a 10% reduction … of the annual increase in federal debt. This is how it is: unlike in Europe, which, over the months, has introduced new mechanisms and takes steps to reduce expenditures and debts (33), the US continues to run full speed into increasing debt. As a matter of fact, ni the next semester, Washington plans to issue 846 billion US dollars worth of Treasury bonds, 35% more than this time last year (34).
