January Gas Prices At All-Time Highs
Forget the weather, forget AAPL, forget American Idol, forget Greece, forget the Middle East, forget inventories, forget USD strength, forget the SPR, and forget the implicit tax cut we 'received' in Q4 from low gas prices... the average gasoline price in the US was the highest ever for January - is it any wonder that retail sales disappointed? So as we all await the tax-cut extension to pass, perhaps we should remember just how big a chunk of our consumer-spending bias is anchored from the starting point of our energy needs and seasonals will do nothing to help this time, like it did in Q4.
Highest ever for January (above)...and it only gets worse (seasonally) from here (below)...

with this post by the 'tard all zh'ers are now aware that it must be break time at the bank where the 'tard still is processing the same 1099 that he did last month.
robot trader:lowering the bar at zh since 2010.
before this is over, starbucks will go bankrupt.
GUFFAW! Robo, the only thing that's shocking is that Rooms to Go hasn't repoed your laptop yet.
looks like im going to have to peddle my bicycle 200 miles, for my week vacation at Saratoga Racecourse, could be dangerous but otherwise i will have no money to bet when i get there !
Eat your peas
We've got a KING here to revive, and thats all that really matters. lol
He meant penis. That is more appropriate for the crowd that would listen to him.
...says the guy making penis jokes
They are bringing NASA technology to deep tar reservoirs - that will change the game completely.
80% of the worlds hydrocarbons are locked up in deep tar and bitumnes currently inaccessable - but not for long - check out "Into the Deep"

most of that oil, BTW is in CANADA and not the ME
Awesome so canada will become one huge strip mine, becuase you know the oil sands aren't doign enough damage up there.
The oilsands are not doing ANY damage up here. A very small portion of the oilsands is shallow enough to be strip mined. Most is produced using the (not new or NASA) technology described in the link.
BTW, the parts of the oil-sands that are strip-mined are then returned to their natural state (minus the oil that used to naturally seep to the surface). The whole operation actually cleans-up the place.
They have potholes.
Those are called diamond mines.
Haul trucks run 24/7 keeping the Oreman fed.
Madcow, all that matters is the profit margin. That technology is very energy and capital intensive, so either way energy will be expensive. So be it, good for my energy companies and people can be a bit more efficient.
this is not strip mining or surface steam generation - they're putting a rocket engine 3000 feet below the surface and blasting the reservoir with natgas and co2 - which melts the formation and partially refines the oil in place - making it more viscous and lighter - and forcing it to the surface -
yes - it is more energy intensive than Ghawar - but its much much less energy intensive than current methods of extraction.
BTU in < BTU out
Not buy much, but don't worry the government and taxpayer will make up for any potnetial losses, they always do. Typically the depth allows most ground water issues to be avoided. Full discloser- I am buying these companies on the dips.

All time highs= better than expected, rally on.
Forget everything and focus on the price of gas? Can't do, that is not what the clown wants us to do. Diversion is who and what he is and what he is all about.
This is going to be the decade of NatGas
38MPG look at that shit
http://automobiles.honda.com/civic-natural-gas/environment.aspx
At current BTU demand, it will last about a decade too, still waiting for that "clean coal" car myself.
They tried that in the 90's with buses, fleet vehicles. Unless they start putting out natgas stations on the roads itll never fly.
Lima, Peru has natgas stations, a big part of their taxi fleet runs on compressed gas. One of our employees there has a car that runs on compressed gas. If PERU can do this...
Same here. Taxis on compressed gas, natgas stations common.
I'm only buying a clown car when the oligarchs ride around in them. Fucking Obama with his fucking truck convoy of GM SUVs, stretch limos, decoys, C-17 transports to move all this around...
Kim Kardashian's G string...can i forget that too?
Keystone pipe line versus what is good for the dirt from Omaha.
Los Angeles gas prices are still cheap, I'm still paying around $3.70/gal. at most ARCO stations
www.losangelesgasprices.com
A far cry from the Peak Oilers' 2007 summer predictions of $7.00/gal. by 2012.
and what is the price per gallon in europe again? Almost back to that June peak when robo went "all in".
It's $ 8.2/gallon in Sweden and people are not out in the streets here.
exactly.
LawsofPhysics
and what is the price per gallon in europe again?
They price by the litres, so it's even more,as you get less.
No kidding? Wow you're a sharp one.
speaking of predictions: your pumping of std, zlc and tzoo seems to be a tad wrong.
robot trader: it's all jim sinclair's fault.
It says the average in Los Angeles is $3.90
20 years ago it was .80 cents.
Good job whatever your point was
Arco, eh?
Fillin' up that '71 Ford Pinto in style aren't ya!
Aren't they exporting all of that "surplus" ethyl?
Vhut, $3.40/gal ?
Would be a consumer's wet dream, over here ($8.13).
Really no difference between Europe and the US. Europe's taxes per gallon is the difference. That is so you can buy American drugs cheaper than the Americans who paid for the R&D to develop them. Quit yer whining.
... but I need cheap gasoline, not american drugs !
*whine*
As Bernanke and the Fed do more QEing expect even more increases in gasoline prices.
We can get back to those $5.00/gal plus prices as Bernanke pushes inflation much, much higher with QE to infinity.
Bullish
I crunched the numbers last week. I have no care payment (my POS is 13 years old and gets ~31 MPG; it's a Civic). I'm averaging ~ $1,000/yr maintenance on the old buggy. My insurance is $240/yr. I drive 26 miles/day round-trip to ofc & back. Parking deck is $40/mo. I'm in a semi-retirement job, full-time, but low pay at $25,500/yr. My transportation costs for this little miser is 18% of my take-home. I can only imagine the cost is for folks who drive 100 or more miles a day in a late-model, 2-ton SUV or pick-up - and there seems to be a lot of them on the road...
Not for much longer.
The Answer:

Yes it is a bicycle. But it is an electric bicycle. 60 mile range and I can pedal it if I have to.
Good, it is high time that people of lower status ceased buying giant gas hog SUVs in order to feel better about themselves. Are you listening, Mr. Obama?
I am one of those in a two tunner.
That damn thing now gets a fillup for the whole month, once a month if that.
And that is all I need.
No more downtown commutes at 90 mph.
Maintenance has falling to one oil change a year and no more brake pads and shit for a few more years yet.
silly people, energy prices don't count towards inflation, plus when you add the deflator for apple products, we have in fact deflation. I know tis because william dudley told me, and I believe everything that domes out of a goldman guy from the NY Fed. :-)
Shoulda voted Bachmann...

Remember "New math"?
Welcome to the "New Capitalism": Demand goes down, prices go up!
Allow me to point out that specialist boutiques (and Apple Inc) operate along the same metric; they have a service that is in high demand by a small but loyal population of customers. To make up on a reduced number of transactions they raise the price to whatever those buyers can stand, and operate at a nice profit on insane margins.
Yup. That's consumer capitalism at its very best.
What you are not ready to hear is that the automobile is set to become a boutique service. There will always be a (ever shrinking) pool of drivers willing to pay whatever they have to for gasoline. Period. Their only concern is availability. Period.
Margins are going to go through the roof for refiners. Retailers, not so much.
Demand does not go down, consumption does.
Chinese citizenism goes up, logic and public courtesy go down.

He really needs the support of all the good hearted folks here.
Happy days of love to all!~
Dude, give it up. His own party establishment keeps him locked in the cellar. Why he even mingles with those cretins is a mystery to me. The MSM also keeps him locked in the cellar. There is no way the guy can win unless he buys his own media conglomerate and parts ways from the rethugs. Any money you send this guy is wasted as long as he sticks with his current dynamics.
Bernanke and the Federal Reserve's fix for the deficits is to flood with liquidity and print. Expect more and more of the same.
Within the next 2 years $7 or $8/gallon gas wouldn't be surprising.
Time to buy SCO and ERY. Gas prices down from here, unless Iran gets testy.
I'm gonna auction a siphon on ebay. I think it will get a ton of hits until the bidders read the fine print that I'll only accept payment in grams of gold.
speedy-siphon patent the idea quick. I think we still have time to get them manufactured cheaply in china, and we can advertise them on facebook, and direct ship. our call center in india, can handle the logistics. (if you can't beat them, join them?)
Sounds good, toss in a snuggie so you stay comfortable and stylish whilst siphoning your neighbors petroleum products.
$3.65-$3.80 here in Miami
It's a good thing I only use 150 gallons of fuel per month, otherwise this might become an annoyance.
/sarc
$ 3.89 here on Long island. What can you do?
If it gets to $9.00/gallon you can pretend to be Europeans !
You mean, unemployed? Living on the dole?
Hmmm. That is different than America how?
Burn our cities?
Think of all the cars that would be off the road at $9/gallon. That would make my commute so much easier. Lol.
Just walked home from work (7 miles)… it feel great. Humming and singing along the way. Think I'll do it again tomorrow. If and when gas goes to $5 or +… it will be the best thing that ever happened to this country. It will make us all rediscover the park down the street. A GREAT THING !
Takes two hours to do 5 miles walking.
Ive done it before. 5 or 10 miles aint that much if you are fit and have time.
Yep and if you have a bicycle you can cut that time down by a factor of 10x easy. Back when I didn't look like a potato with four toothpicks coming out of it, I could cycle 12 miles in about 39 minutes.
I'm still hearing the "head in the sand" mainstream mantra about monetary policy. Praying people still believe that they are going to be blessed through the gambling house at the Federal Reserve. Those who sow in debt, shall reap poverty.
http://thedailyclimb.wordpress.com/
These prices are not the high prices all time.
Wait until they break 10.00 a gallon and come back when it does.
Gas demand has dropped by millions of barrels a day, yet prices keep rising. The oil companies are doing the ENRON electric thing, and no one is saying a word to stop them.
as long as it's under $10 a gallon, i'll be driving my IS-F
I wonder how this Rossi e-Cat LENR/CANR thingie is going to pan out. I've never seen a long con go on for over a year before. That makes me think the nano Ni+H (plus a secret ingredient) method of cold fusion is actually real. Also somewhere around a dozen scientists worldwide are claiming replication.
It would be nice to stop fighting over oil, submerging tribal lands for hydroelectric, making huge messes with nuclear, losing our shirts on solar, chopping up birds with windmills, spreading mercury far and wide with coal, and otherwise accepting noxious side effects from each and every form of energy we use.
