Jim Grant Must Watch: "Capitalism Is An Alternative For What We Have Now"
Jim Grant is simply brilliant in this must watch interview with CNBC's Maria Bartiromo, which we won't spoil with commentary, suffice to provide the following pearl of an exchange:
Maria Bartiromo: "What are the alternatives?"
Jim Grant: "Capitalism is an alternative for what we have now. I highly recommend it."
Maria: "We all do."
Grant: "No we don't."
Maria: "The Federal Reserve may not."
Grant: "We ought to be discussing an intelligent move to a sound currency by which i mean a currency that is based on a standard and not at the whim and the discretion of a bunch of mandarins sitting around Washington D.C."
In other news, Joseph Stalin has never been happier in his grave that Ben Bernanke has decided to shoulder the legacy of central planning and is firmly committed to proving that where Vissarionovich failed, the ChairSatan will succeed. At any cost.

Ben Bernanke's grand plan to get rid of Crony Capitalism by getting rid of the Capitalism doesn't seem to be working out too well.
Actually I'm pleasantly surprised they even allowed the discussion on CNBS. Although Maria's sudden mock concern for savers made me guffaw. Welcome to the last 5 fucking years Maria.
Half of America is sitting in traffic going home so the amount of viewers won't be that spectacular.

And during the few moments that we have left
We wanna talk right down to Earth in a language that everybody here can easily understand
Look in my eyes, what do you see?
The cult of personality
I know your anger, I know your dreams
I've been everything you want to be
I'm the cult of personality
Like Mussolini and Kennedy
I'm the cult of personality
The cult of personality
The cult of personality
Neon lights, a Nobel prize
Than the mirror speaks, the reflection lies
You won't have to follow me
Only you can set me free
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/l/living+colour/cult+of+personality_20084475.... ]
I sell the things you need to be
I'm the smiling face on your tv
I'm the cult of personality
I exploit you, still you love me
I tell you one and one makes three
I'm the cult of personality
Like Joseph Stalin and Gandhi
I'm the cult of personality
The cult of personality
The cult of personality
Neon lights, a Nobel prize
When a leader speaks, that leader dies
You won't have to follow me
Only you can set you free
You gave me fortune
You gave me fame
You gave me power in your god's name
I'm every person you need to be
I'm the cult of personality (I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of)
I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of (I'm the cult of)
I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of personality (I'm the cult of)
Ask not what your country can do for you
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself
Not saying I like him, just saying it would be interesting if he actually had something good.
I like the guy, well done.
The only thing better than this would be Bill Maher calling Michelle Obama a Nigger Cunt.
So it would be perfectly OK for Bill Maher or any other comedian to call Michelle Obama a "Nigger Cunt" I suppose.

The Zionist Jews used the victimization tactic to get? where they are today, so the Blacks tried to duplicate the model to advance their supremacy. I get it now.
Jews Have Higher IQ's than Blacks.
It's a fact because I said it first.
Now what if Bill Maher said Jews Have Higher IQ's than Blacks?
Would it be like Jimmy The GreeK saying;
Jimmy the Greek

Or Bill Maher calling Michelle Obama a "Nigger Cunt"?

That's why we have a Republic. USA, USA, USA.
You back up your little rant with a c/p of the lyrics of a Living Color song?

That's kinda what I was trying to figure out.
@ plad. good f'ing question.
IMO, those who champion Bell's critical race theories are guaranteeing the ongoing racial breakdown of society and the cult of victimhood and entitlement that characterizes SOME of our most serious problems..
"He was a pioneer of critical race theory — a body of legal scholarship that explored how racism is embedded in laws and legal institutions, even many of those intended to redress past injustices. His 1973 book, “Race, Racism and American Law,” became a staple in law schools and is now in its sixth edition."

...and here I thought I was the only one.
edited Breitbart video = scam
you think the guy was murdered for this stupid vid of an obummer speech?
brietbart said he had obummer with commies discussing the takeover of america on video.

The entire tape will be released and aired to thepublic fr the first time tonight on Hannity...
On Hannity? That bastion of whiskey tango truth?
lol...as opposed to those other bastions of free speech Media Matters...Keith Olberman...The View maybe?
Yes, lets leave it up to them to come forward with anything but a panting portrayal of a guy who bounces trillion dollar checks off the public treasury with nothing at all to show for it. They accept as fact (just because he said so) that he sat in a church for years listening to Rev Wright's "sermons" and never heard a word he said. Kicks off his political career in a domestic terrorist' living room and the MSM reports nothing. Sat on an Annenburg Foundation board for black school kids that did nothing but lose money but he got his taste.
Tony Rezko?...meh.
ABC/CNN/NBC/CBS had a shot to vet this guy three years ago...they said nothing.
Is it me or does this whole Breitbart death, video clip crap seem like a big sham?
Well, he had a heart condition...but initially, everyone has "those thoughts" run through their minds.
No he wasn't taken out I don't think...it wouldn't matter, there are millions of Breitbarts, he was just one tip of an army of spears.
As to the vid, haven't seen it yet...but there is always more than one with a biggie held in reserve.
As in he is hangin' with Elvis, and Ken Lay in some tropical paradise?
I think it was 100 milion from doners for CAP: Chicago Annenberg Project. How many underprivledged black children escaped poverty through Mr. Obama's efforts? 5? 10?
Works out to 10-20 million each.
He's been doing it for decades!
I can't believe that Annenberg allowed themselves to get so easily fleeced.
It was, in my humble opinion, a preview of what was to come if ever given real power.
We will sit here apart and decide (with money we have not earned) how best to decide the fates of people we will never meet. If it all goes bust, we will not be out one dime, we will have been well compensated for presiding over it.
We will say, it was the thought that counted...not the results...give us more time & money.
I seriously doubt Barry back in the 80s had the same cadence, speech structure and tonal qualities as President Obama today, especially since his manner of speaking has changed subtly since he's been in office. Sure, I could be grasping here, but this is the same guy that tried to pass of a fake birth certificate, right?
Who buys this shit anyway? Aren't there better things with which to distract attention?
I am Chumbawamba.
My only thought about this 9 PM circus, he references being born in a hut in Kenya. Beyond that, we have to wait until information is released.
WTF it is news footage most of it Buys what shit, that barry spoke the same way why the hell would he not speak the same way? You have a point here Chumba?
Didn't you hear Chumba?
This could explain why he seems "Different" , No more hollywood speech writer.

Anyone who thinks that we currently have a system of capitalism is deeply ignorant. We have fascism. We have a centrally-planned economy, and market forces are actively suppressed by policy. The interests of a small, extra-legal cartel are specifically protected by government policy, and democracy, rule of law and the constitution all take a distant back-seat to the protection of profits for the elite.
Correct. Economic fascism at its heart is the defacto merger of large corporations and central government into a single entity with unified goals. If that doesn't describe what we have today, I don't know what does.
Timmay's trying to wash sale Obama's ass out of AIG before Nov. 6 . AIG books a $19.8 B profit for 4Q on tax breaks. Mission accomplished.

You nailed it Rainman. They poured taxdollars down a rathole to mint money for GS and now allow a huge tax break to salvage their "investment", again on the backs of taxpayers (try getting an extension on your loss carryforwards some day or asking the IRS to increase the $3000/yr limit on losses for individuals and see what happens).
Whiny bitch.
popo - red pill,
i attempted to start to write a book about it. i did not have the sense of humor to make it possible. i tryed.
and it is facism, but it's subtle. it is a facism - but not about nation or 'vaderland'. it's about consuming.
we are multi-national now and they don't care about nations. mcdonalds and coke etc. are everywhere.
it's about getting everyone to consume the same things that they do not need with money they do not have.
Fukrichcism? We're fucked, they're rich, and fascism is just icing on the FUpcake...anyone seeing how this ends well for the 'lower' classes in this country? That is including the Middle Class in the lower classes. I can't see how they rate any higher on the 'fuck the poor' scale anymore. Is it really going to come down to the modern equivalent of 'pitchforks, tar, and feathers'?, ie. AR's and other assorted plinking devices? What's the ultimate catalyst? Is there even 3% of this populace interested in change? I don't know of many people who can tell the difference between Snooki, the GOP candidates, and who the Bachelor dumped...(outside of ZH that is, MDB and Robo excluded)? Dammit Jim, I can't push it any faster!
I doubt there would be a bubble formation in long bonds if there was free market capitalism. Ever growing centralized government growth needs to be financed so fairy tale economics is created by central bankers(and market participants who wish to capitalize on the moves of central bankers) to make long term centralized government growth appear sustainable.
If market participants were to act only on free market fundamentals rather than central bank created fundamentals there is no way in hell long bonds would be desirable. The problem with free market fundamentals as governments see them is that they would end the blank check of government growth. Governments would have to pull back with the private sector. Since governments have the power to dictate fundamentals--they do.
This is why I am a doomer, governments will dictate fundamentals until there is an all out collapse and reversion to the mean of free market fundamentals that(eventually) wrests away their dictatorial powers.
I couldn't have said it better myself.

There has been no change in US citizenism from the start, save the conditions surrounding it.
US citizens claiming that what the current situation shows is not US citizenism but something else, fascism, communism or anything else are kicking the can, unable to deal with the reality at hand.
The US of A has been centrally planned from the start.
US citizens want to sell the idea that they had in their own times small state government. They had not. The US of A state government has always been as big as it could possibly be.
When the US started, they had neighbouring societies that had no government state.
Indeed when you look at it retrospectively, today US state government looks bigger (normal as it follows the expansion process)
But this does not mean US goveernment state was not big in the past. It was.
Good article on US citizenism spreading in China.

Just like many other US citizens, the author kicks the can, claiming that it is something else spreading in China, (fascism)

:) i need up arrows on this one. (and for maria, they don't need to be big arrows, just BACKED by something).
that was fun.. i think i will carry on drinking this evening.
I have been hearing from behind the curtain that CNBC is intentionally and slowly starting to break with the other Western MSM dinosaurs propaganda outlets. We may see more and more of these reports by CNBC as events on the world stage play out but don't get your hopes up too much.
I don't need a curtain to know who these sleestaks are. CNBC is the PBS of the financial world. Only watch them to see what the tbtf assclowns want you to think.
Suprised Grant agreed to allow himself to be seen wearing a crooked tie.

You said, "Welcome to the last 5 fucking years Maria."
I'm sure Maria enjoyed the last 5 years... but I don't know if she actually spent all that time f*cking.
"Ben Bernanke's grand plan to get rid of Crony Capitalism..."
and you get two up for that? Is my sarc meter malfunctioning? I don't get it.
It's like getting stains out of your clothes by throwing them out the window; stain gone.
not funny
BS and PROPAGANDA ALERT--writ large
Jim Grant is engaging in BS.
The ongoing economic collapse as well as the ongoing exercise in futility often dubbed as 'kicking the can...' are all part and parcel of capitalism and a vain attempt to hide its flaws.
Posters in these parts often recognize and/or proclaim that debt cannot be cured by adding more debt. Well, folks, so it is with capitalism. You cannot cure its manifest ills, its wanton and relentless nurture of greed and of inequality by calling for either more of it or a better variety of it.
Just as debt is debt, so too capitalism: one version is the same as the next.
It's capitalism, stupid :-)
Mega strong stupid in this one.. Capitalism is not what you apparently think it is or at least what you have seen in our ongoing ponzi manipulation phase.. You want to call it broken, okay. Want to say it has been hijacked by criminals and their government lackeys, okay.
But don't lie and say it fundamentally doesn't work, idiot you are on the wrong site, DU and Huffblow calling your name..
Would it be correct to say that in a Capitalistic system, in the fight to accumulate capital any and all means are allowed?
Would it then not make sense for those with capital or wanting capital to try and improve their positions by affecting any existing collective rules or the enforcement of said rules in their favour?
Would influence with rule-makers and rule-enforcers not be greater the more capital you can deploy to influence them and would the capital available for that not be proportional to the total amount of capital one has?
Or putting things together:
How likelly it is in a Capitalist system that those with the most capital use said capital to change the rules and the enforcement of those rules so that they maintain or even enhance their position?
Could it be that what we have now is exactly the result of decades of such a behaviour, to the point that Capitalism is destroyed?
My point being that Capitalism comes with the seeds of it's own destruction.
No, you have that wrong. Capitalism means respecting everyone's right to property, which implies that all exchanges are voluntary. No seeds of destruction there.
What we have now is institutionalized theft, where a few people use the state to steal from everyone else. Statism in all its forms, socialism, communism, fascism, monarchy, is the opposite of capitalism. Read some Rothbard if you want to learn more.
"You cannot cure its manifest ills, its wanton and relentless nurture of greed and of inequality by calling for either more of it or a better variety of it."
Well, it's not even THIS complicated: there's human nature here, capitalism doesn't have a lock on these attributes. What DOES run aground is ANY notion that infinite growth can be perpetuated on a finite planet. I have yet to hear from uber capitalists how capitalism would manage in the REAL world that is now descending upon us... you will ONLY hear about "growth," about MORE and MORE...
Very simple answer to that , "Growth" under capitalism is adding value through either productivity gains , inventing something useful that people will need or lending excess savings after your living costs to either. Thanks to the fed! for 100 years you havn't been able to get any "savings" ..3% annual is 140%+ over a working mans lifetime..now where has Inflation, government deficit spending and government debt been?
As for the "uber capitalist"
Look what this one is doing...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elon_Musk#SpaceX
Capitalism isn't evil more then a hammer is.You can build a house or beat someones face in, Build a Bomb or finance some resources for infinite growth..
But the dollar gets pissed farther down the toilet, every dollar of deficit spending and every crackpot scam of restarting the economic engine of infinite paper asset nominal gains goes on ...and it goes round and round the world....destroying Savings pumping and dumping markets. Just so the governemnt can suck it out to go secure what little resources are left .Commodity money or bust for humanity, maybe try measuring value in weight again instead of "intellectual masturbations"?
Who is going to invest in 30 year asteroid Belt asset backed bonds (For real here) when they can buy a 30 year mortgage and retire a millionaire? or apple.
Real estate is a shit depreciating asset, WTF 30 year mortgage? Isn't their something more productive someone can invest 30 years worth of "payments" on for 30 years? I see lots of supply! oh wait Bernanke has to push granny into "high yield" long end curve (or stocks the more high beta the better!blow that principle and let the commune take care of you!).no matter the fundementals or complexity of time preferences and long term sustainability!
Jim Grant for fed chair
(P.s.Disgrunteled 20 something)
Say it with me ZackLo -
There will never be enough spacemonkeys who genuinely want to take delivery
There will always be enough stupid "smart" people who bother reading your shit
There are more grey bags and semi-intellectuals to come who feel the need to comment on the internet, bringing their "answers"
So don't fight it - just buy JP Morgan and you will be better off. LOL
Gold,Silver, RE metals? I think they will...If there was actually a proven plan and it was done and repeated
It's all bullshit anyway these banks with governemnt sanctioned monopolies fucking jerk each other off (swaps) and every time one of them busts a balance sheet (Default or ahem, margin called), a whole generation takes it on the chin and the governemnt bails the banks out, while they proceed to pay themselves Bonuses out of the previous bailout.
Preaching to the choir hear I know that's why I don't post often.
God forbid anyone tries to imagine a world not rife with fucking Vampires, Thieves , and 2 faced vipers raping the shit out of the population through a myriad of cartels and fucking shell games. where maybe Prices actually show you something other then BTFD! BTFD ON RUMORS OF BTFD! never mind it took the Snp how many years to get to where it is? Fundamentals? Leverage?
Keynes is dead We are all still here...who got the last fucking laugh?
Very simple answer to that , "Growth" under capitalism is adding value through either productivity gains , inventing something useful that people will need or lending excess savings after your living costs to either. Thanks to the fed! for 100 years you havn't been able to get any "savings" ...
__________________________________________________
And it is not what is done? Useful, value are all situational references.
Kicking the can, once again.
And savings are consumption. US citizens have made that analysis a long time ago, correctly, and they have drawn the correct conclusions when it comes to apply it to their system.
Rear guard action to keep claiming otherwise.
You could of saved everyone a lot of reading if you had simply professed your love for Marx and Engels
Duck soup is awesome.
Is it love simply to recognise when someone is right?
Take Jim Grant as an example - yes I agree the FED is controling the market, yes I agree they are creating inlfation to avoid paying debts, yes I agree they are probably going to do a lot of damage.....
...however Jim relies on this antiquated idea that "if you let the market decide - it will all be OK" - which is steeped in some 'olde worldy' Adma Smith view of Capitalism - where we don't ALREADY HAVE CORPORATE MONOPOLY POWER.
Unfortunately if the FED doesn't manipulate the market - the monopolies will.
This is off course EXACTLY how Marx said it would go - and the swings of Capitalism in it's last throes will be wilder and more extreme - just as we're seeing.
The Market is a myth above anything other than the smallest scale.
What do you think the Fed is? It's a banking cartel that functions as a monopoly! Sure, it is made up of multiple banks, but they act as one to manipulate the market.
jplotinas:
I hate it when the gorilla plays with the luggage and visions himself a pilot.
Jim Grant is engaging in BS.

That is for sure.
US citizenism has not changed since the inception of the US.
Grant sells the idea of the fabled past, which does not exist.
What are the differences with yesterday? The conditions, the surrounding conditions.
Tricks used have not changed but as the depletion is progressing, the targets are to be changed.
Some US citizens who thought it was their birth right to be always on the right side of the fence are now forced on the other side.
Hence the cheap fabrication that the system is broken.
It is not. It has to feed on different people, that is all.
Analizing the fed and Gov activity is verry verry simple.
The new world order is destroying everything financial so what is left of the population (those sheaple who were not culled by the nwo programs) will beg the new world order one world government for a solution.
What the hell is so hard about that?
How about bringing some of that truth to light, Tyler? Along with all these meaningless crumbs of bullshit for everyone to analize ad nausium...?

The money we're creating is not flowing through the economy. CORRECT. It is disappearing into bank balance sheets! How is it that difficult to see?
They reason we haven't seen rampant inflation is because this "money" is not hitting the open market. It is going towards bank balance sheets and that's it. That's the reason we have had no demonstrable change in consumer prices.
No demonstrable change in consumer prices. Riiiight.
So it's normal for a jar of mayonnaise to cost $5. And my cat's Fancy Feast canned food didn't go from 45 cents per can to 60 cents per can in just the past year. And a pound of generic butter quarters didn't double over the past two years.
No, my eyes are transitorily deceiving me. There, in fact, have been no demonstrable changes in consumer prices.
Unlike The Bernanke, navy apparently doesn't do his own grocery shopping. Or purchase his own gasoline. Or pay the tab at the bar or restaurant.
Dude, if the money that the Fed has been creating were to actually hit the open market, you'd be paying $10 or $15 or more for a jar of mayo. The rate of money creation is ludicrous, and the only reason you haven't seen a crippling rise in prices is because this money is not hitting the open market. It is going towards re-capitalization of the banks.
bankers bonuses. it is expected that your deposits will be printed and handed thru via FDIC.
It's also maintaining the salaries of the casino banking class, and the recapitalization of their collective gambling funds enables them to make more and larger speculative bets on things like food and energy.
I want some of what you're smoking. Maybe the reason inflation hasn't been "rampant" is because the quality of EVERYTHING has been going down. I have underwear from high school I still wear that looks like the day I bought it. I got some brand name underwear from the department store december of last year that has huge motheaten holes in the ass, now.

"I have underwear from high school I still wear that looks like the day I bought it."
So pre-piss stained skidmarked drawers was a fashion statement? Homeless chic?
Homeless don't do underwear... a horrible waste of loose change

Hey it comes right out in the wash.
maybe you shoulnd't have eaten that second burrito
Pretty much anything you buy in Home Depot or Lowes is complete shit. Manufactured for as cheap as possible in China and sold in the USA. The Fed apologists would say that's a sign there is no inflation since prices are tame. I say bullshit. For the product that used to last 15-20 years, now you're lucky if you get 3-5 without it needing to be replaced so in the end you are paying many multiples for the same thing. Inflation is probably running at 15-30% based on life and quality of product.
"... now you're lucky if you get 3-5 without it needing to be replaced..."
Man, I need to start shopping in your neighborhood.
Yeah DD it is a given that any big box hardware you buy these days is a short timer piece of shit. I replaced some water valves and they all failed within 6 months. The ones I replaced had lasted >10 years. All the old ones were made in New York so they were probably older than 10 years.
This is small-fry shit. I'm not talking about a 1% or 2% rise in inflation. I'm talking 15% or more. The rate of money creation since 2008 should have produced "rampant" inflation on the order of 10% or more. It didn't. Why? Because that money did not enter the open market. It went directly into the black hole of bank balance sheets. It recapitalized the banks. That's the only reason you haven't seen crippling price increases.
Have prices for shit generally increased? Yes. Have they increased on par with the rate of money creation? No ... not by a very long shot.
Going commando is the new normal.
I think you missed something <sarc> Your post was almost MDBesque
