Jim Grant Must Watch: "Capitalism Is An Alternative For What We Have Now"

Tyler Durden's picture

Jim Grant is simply brilliant in this must watch interview with CNBC's Maria Bartiromo, which we won't spoil with commentary, suffice to provide the following pearl of an exchange:

Maria Bartiromo: "What are the alternatives?"

Jim Grant: "Capitalism is an alternative for what we have now. I highly recommend it."

Maria: "We all do."

Grant: "No we don't."

Maria: "The Federal Reserve may not."

Grant: "We ought to be discussing an intelligent move to a sound currency by which i mean a currency that is based on a standard and not at the whim and the discretion of a bunch of mandarins sitting around Washington D.C."

In other news, Joseph Stalin has never been happier in his grave that Ben Bernanke has decided to shoulder the legacy of central planning and is firmly committed to proving that where Vissarionovich failed, the ChairSatan will succeed. At any cost.

Whereas I think Lloyd B enjoys being humiliated by women I think Jim Grant enjoys begging to lick pussy.

But who are we to comment?  Did you take delivery today?  If not, your comment, mine and everyone else's here is equally worthless.

I sure hope Grant does not use turbotax. He is not going to get the Timmay treatment after saying some of this stuff.

Mandarin -> Mongolian -> Timmaaaaaaah!

Jim Grant: "Capitalism is an alternative for what we have now. I highly recommend it."

Well, that is putting it politely, to say the least.

I believe that the US Fed has actually entered into a dangerous phase of a radical National Socialism, in a dangerous game of currency wars and beggar thy neighbour, a devaluation race to the bottom, where the only strategy now left is: " To Devalue the US Dollar, to make exports cheaper, to sell more Apple I-Pads to Europe and China " Everything the Fed is doing now has only that one goal: to keep the world reserve currency, the USD lower than the Euro!

The Fed even lends money to the ECB to bailpout and buy European Junk-Bonds at 1% interest rate in a classic game of beggar thy neighbour. And so the Fed is trying to export its problems to Europe and the rest of the world by making the USD cheaper than the Euro and by creating a commodity inflation world-wide.

But how many I-Pads can the world buy with WTI Oil at US$ 100 Brent even higher and Singapore TAPIS Crude at US$ 130 for the rest of the world like Asia ?

I agree with Tyler when he writes: "Joseph Stalin has never been happier in his grave that Ben Bernanke has decided to shoulder the legacy of central planning and is firmly committed to proving that where Vissarionovich failed, the ChairSatan will succeed. At any cost."

the cost will be Inflation world-wide, with more Debt and Interest due and another severe GFC to come,

only this time the FED can not go any lower, there are no more tools left since everyone is going broke and too many are in Debt and out of a Job. You can't create something out of nothing, even though some would like to make us believe so...

Well said! wr. It's going to blow. The numbers are just too big for any ChairSatan to handle, let alone comprehend. It's financial central planning and corruption gone hog wild.

What do you suggest we do about it?

Because if action is not taken, all your comments, JR, are going into the intellectual dustbin of history, just as those on people.com.  LOL

So what do you suggest we do?

It’s now developed that innocent peoples everywhere, from Yemen to Spain to Indonesia, America and all the rest are turning against their false leaders…men who have brought the cartel into their communities to enslave them. This is the last fight of the people against the tyrants echoing the monarchies of Western Europe and the butchers of Eastern Europe, the battlefield at York Town, and, now, the politics of 21st Century Washington and the cold greed of the central banks.

The light of day will defeat them. Already the people are in the battlefield.

What must we do? We must continue to expose them. We’ve taken the first step, Vic; we are agreed. Now we must arouse even greater numbers to stand with us. When enough stand around the world, as they are now doing, these minions of a worldwide dictatorship will fail. Even now, we are witnessing  Bernanke et al. fighting a losing battle.

Brilliant stuff, as always, JR.  But riddle me this:

The crowd I run with has no interest in "tyrants echoing the monarchies of Western Europe" or "the cold greed of the central banks"; they want to know who lost Amazing Race this week.

Call them idiots at your own peril.  I'm sure plenty here will have fun with it.

It seems like action on the part of those who care/know is all that matters.  To me, that seems like the only answer is  buying physical.  If you have a better idea, please explain.  'Cuz I'm done with trying to "expose" the criminals to the crowd that does not care.  I don't blame that crowd and I don't hate them.  They don't know b/c they don't want to know.

It's hard to blame them - I'd much rather figure out who wins Celebrity Apprentice than figure out fractional reserve lending.  Just sayin'.

How about?

"The crowd I run with cannot relate to the other 99% of people's lives in the world, however each mind i can awake in my crowd has more impact thru their actions than 1000's of the 99% elsewhere in the world can have, therefore my return on investment is far greater here than anywhere else in the world"

Dont tell people the answer make them ask the question for themselves.

The vid is very good.

Can US citizen do something else than kicking the can?

US citizenism has not changed one bit since its inception.

This US citizen calls for an alternative that does not exist.

To be complete, US citizens have made a fine job at destroying any kind of alternative possible.

You know, it is quite simple: when strive to promote one option, when you are successful, you are left with the option you promoted and all the options you fail to eliminate.

Very simple. No doubt this Jim Grant knows already that.

US citizens from the start have been extremely successful at promoting US citizenism in their globalist entreprise.

And, in an expansion scheme, as the one that is inherent to US citizenism, well, there is one option you generally fail at destroying, the decline of the option you promoted.

Maybe too harsh for that US citizen Jim Grant who in fear will work all kinds of tricks to push some other people under the train before he got sucked himself in his own dementia systemics, but still the reality.

The coronal mass ejection (CME) associated with the R3 (Strong) Radio Blackout event from 0024 UTC March 7 (7:24 p.m. EST March 6) is forecast to pass ACE early morning UTC on March 8 (start of day EST March 8). Geomagnetic storm periods reaching the G3 (Strong) level are likely as a result.  Additionally, the Solar Radiation Storm levels remain above the S3 (Strong) threshold at this time. Region 1429 remains potent and subsequent activity is certainly possible. Updates here as conditions warrant.

He wasn't direct enough.  People lke Maria still think the Fed is their friend and is trying to save us.  What do you think the Fed is going to do with all the propety on their books oncle the minimum payments can't be made?  And what about the CB elite buying up all this prime farmland with 0s and 1s?

The crisis of capitalism and the hypocrisy of private finance and pseudo contractual law :

We all know that the CDO/CDS/SVP/Off balance sheet/Shadow banking/ rehypothecating caper on an uprecedented and unregulated scale; where king finance ruled political land, is at the heart of this betrayal of capitalism itself; whatever efficiency and market proficiency existed has now totally disappreared.

So now the bastardised sons of this construct, the vulture HFs play in the interstices of the spider's web to claim their share of the spoils; like mad gamblers drilling holes into the hull of the Titanic as it flounders; its fiat money devalued, all battered by its head on collision with debt mountain, bleeding its remaining riches in torrents of deficits, without the signs of a resurgence of real organic growth, all mangled and convoluted by a looming high priced fossil fuel energy plateau, having as only recourse to save the house, in some delusional vision of things, CB printing of QE inf....

The basic truth is that the whole derivatives naked play as the HF blackmailed in pseudo-legalese logic shenanigans, is a total illegal, immoral, unethical scam. It needs to get purged and the markets regulated. It spells the death of financial capitalism; and ultimately the death of the country that invented it. Bottom line. Move pronto, or you lose all. Irrespective of which continental construct burns first; bonfire of current vanities in this mad rush to bottom.

And all this logic of defending private contracting and the CDS market on OTC basis, garbed in the purity of "covenants" is a farcical exercise in pretending that the preadators are the victims; the real victims are in Syntagma square. Not in the City.

These mad leveraged plays that HFs and PDs plan as rogue financiers on Titanic is the tumour that is malignant in capitalism; its zeitgeist of suicidal fragrance.

I watched this live yesterday form the UK and it was great to see such clarity of thought and clarity of exposition in a live interview. No spin, no obfuscation, no equivocation. Just the facts spoken plainly. The USA has great thinkers and good people and the World needs them in positions where they make a difference.

I agree. Jim Grant would make a great Fed Chairman. Chances are nil that it will ever happen.
