Krugman To Colbert: "Ireland Is America's Future If Romney Is President"
Forget turning Japanese, an anxious-looking Paul Krugman appeared on Stephen Colbert last night to hawk his book and suggested that "Ireland is Romney economics in practice". Noting that Obama "inherited a Depression" but has unfortunately not taken us out of it due to a "whole lot of opposition from 'the other guys'". The Kaped Keynesian Krusader went on to note that "a recession is when things are going down but a depression is when things are down" and suggests an Obama campaign slogan "It's Not As Bad As The Great Depression" to which Colbert retorts that electing Romney would seem to be the path to 'ending this depression now'. While Krugman opines that if we would just re-hire all the government workers who have been laid off over the past few years then all would be well in the world, we suspect Colbert is closer to the truth when he comedically adds that "obviously the way to end the real depression is a war in Europe" and while USA is not Greece (or Uganda), it appears we will be Ireland if Romney gets elected.

what a fucking hack.
But Wait!
There's More!
We're in the Hack's Depression.
Created and maintained by the same 2 party system that brought us the ascendency of Goldman Sachs!
And since pre-Clinton, the GS'ers have been.... everywhere!
Thanks, Goldman!
OK....
So it's neither Bush's nor Obama's fault
It's Goldman's Fault!
Another Nobel Award-winning Turd in a Tie...he's the Whiter side of Obamanomics...
If your Mother has ever come out of the bathroom and said "Y'all c'mere and look at the Krugman I dropped before I flush it.", you might be a Redneck...
Kaped Keynesian Krusader, KKK, how appropriate.
Saw that too. Krugman wears a hood when writing his column and burning the $ symbol?
Ahhh, the other way of receiving presidential cufflinks.
and a free pass to the nearest secured bunker

"We have to go spend more so we don't go bankrupt" ~ Joe Biden
What hell is this?
That means if Obama becomes the PREZZY, then our future is Zimbabwe. The are not bankrupt yet, just plain BROKE
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
“Individuals, corporations, cities, and States can not, of themselves, do anything except play according to the rules of the present money system and make their outgo balance their income, or ultimately “go broke.” Most of them are unable, much as they may desire, to give consideration to helping the general situation except as they may influence the action of the Federal Government, which is in an entirely different category, it being able to make and change therules of the game…A State, of course, is in the same financial category as corporations and individuals in that they do not have the power of issuing money or credit. The Federal Government is entirely in a different category because it controls the money system.” ~ Marriner Eccles (February 13 – 23, 1933 Senate Hearing Committe – prior to becoming Fed Chairman)
Romney is cut of the same cloth.
If Volcker could renew the USa purpose in the 70's, to be overthrown by the "committee to save the world", perhaps Hominey Rominey might be a cleaner.
Although it would take a miracle of money printing, autarky, and debt swappery.
Ugly but Effective. Like Krugman's shilling for his paymasters.
Krugman is a cancer. He must be treated as such.
"Ireland Is America's Future If Romney Is President"

Krugman is a tard. Why stop at just hiring back all the laid off people? Hell, hire even more... and give them a raise. Everyone should be in public service.
buy gold and shut the fuck up.
'Meddling Martian Marauder'.
"Be Be Because...central...planning!"
Works for both sides of the debate here.
Meh. Huffington Post beat Tyler to this dog whistle by about 9 hours. Y'all jumped on command on both sides.
Ireland is to America under Romney as France is to America under _________.
You won't find too many liberals at this site. Huffpo is for the Obama Pickle Smokers.
Plenty of Classical Liberals here though.
count me in this group - and don't kid yourself, US liberals and US libertarians both belong to the "family" of the Classical Liberals.
It's only the single-seat first-around-the-post electoral system that divides the family into a conservative faction and a progressive faction, otherwise it would be one party with two wings.
nevertheless, in this interview the liberal is Colbert, Krugman only poses as a liberal, he is too statist for the term and should be properly labeled as a Social Democrat.
We are in a depression, but no politician or MSM pundit for the economy will say the D word. Because that points to the failure of the govt. and the president not doing their jobs.
Noting that Obama "inherited a Depression" but has unfortunately not taken us out of it due to a "whole lot of opposition from 'the other guys'". Krugman 3 MSM 0
Not that dissimilar from geocentricity, flat earth, Iraq+WMD's, etc. High priests concoct convoluted, divinely inspired explanations, when evidence challenges prevailing "wisdom." Those who disagree are simply declared heretics or witches. The rest are threatened with the wrath of God. Status quo is maintained.
BTW: Where the F was Kruggybear when Bush was spending like a drunken sailor? No offense to sailors....drunk, or otherwise.
but i told me mum i was just playin' with the cat again. How'd you find out?
@ 3:52 where they say they are both in the 1%, cobert says 'hey secret handshake', and then they actually do the masonic handshake... in your face...
krugman is not a man, he is a characterture...
the masonic handshake?

idk supposedly they gotta place the thumb on the knuckles and it looks like they did, but come on, national television?--- probably just a coincidence
That is no coincidence.
thanks for that screenshot! lol!!!
it is so mockingly 'in your face'...

my housemates love Krugman, one of them would even suck his socialist dick in a heartbeat and quotes his articles from the NYtimes
WTF Krugman is a shill who needs to be bound, gagged and forgotten
Funny how you guys think Milton Friedman's monetarism is the same as Krugman's modern Keynesianism. The former is what is in effect and the latter is not. If you don't know the difference then maybe this debate is over your head.
Why no one has Lynched this pathetic little bastard yet is one of lifes mysteries!
Patience.
Because he is so pathetic, he is not worth the wear and tear on the implements of corporal punishment.
Who wants that stuff smeared on their rope? Rope being a trade good in the new paleo economy resulting from this twit's recommended solutions, following a bit of a die off.
worse than a fucking hack. one question and he's checkmated: how can you call this a depression when, thanks to the illegal fed, we have indexes melting up so very high?
how to end the depression? let me give you the answer in broad strokes in quite a bit less than the length of a book: lose the fed and allow markets to set interest rates, stop subsidizing the TBTF institutions and let them fail, regulate the most egregious market transgressions (e.g. JPM's derivative hedges of hedges to the Nth), allow markets to determine real estate values and not shelter toxic mortgages and allow the global financial purge come as it may. a gold standard may also be created, but the key is to free the free markets from central planning and of course set fair progressive taxes, if you even must have taxes (gov can print for basic services, issue limited bonds, cities and states have other tax revenues, etc.).
in light of what is transpiring the above solution is anything but radical. oh yeah and if we rely on the government to juice unemployment, then we are beyond delusional, as clearly Krugman is. instead of relying on this grand diseased inept babysitter gov state, we need to get this incompetent caustic system overhauled asap!
krugman + obama = zero credibility nobel.
Colbert establishes Kruggybear's value 0:10 into the video.
true. but it could have been quite amusing if he actually skimmed say the most recent one and decimated him on his erroneous econ.
Krugmanism is the problem. The state of denial that fails to acknowledge that the whole economic system, not just the left or right side of it, has become one big cesspool.
WORD wB7... great too see your recent rating/fame on the that 'Huff_Poo' blogger/terrist list.... you're a certified steely eyed <target>TPTB missle man!
... keep it going... the ZH bitchezs are with ya!
Rogue
I would so like to have some time with Krugman in room 101..... it would take months.
Apologies to the 'more sensitive' of the new ZH crowd for getting so 'personal' about this f*ckin' c*nt!
He really would be first on MY LIST....
It's all George Bush's fault!

I was going to give you a thumb's up but I didn't want to leave the wrong impression....
Nobama '12
Let's get Obama in there!
This thing is going to come crashing down quick, so it might as well be on Obama!
Lets play a game shall we?
Lets name the strategy whereby the Ron Paul Crew and independants all vote for OBAMA, so the Democrats get an equal share of the blame for the complete and total economic collapse of the USA.
I'll go first;
The Ron Paul Crew Put.
The Fucked Fuck the Fucking Fuckers.
Hasten the collapse......Republicrats 2012.
The collapse is coming at the same speed no matter what. 2013. Both Romney and Obama will bailout to the max. No Difference.
The only question is who do you want to take the blame?
Well, in THAT case, OBAMA! Of course!
What's your grand plan genius? Print more money?
"
Well George Bush was the country's first President ever. All problems were started by him...
Ireland is America's future. No ifs.
Ireland MAY have a future. America has none.
Sad thing is a ton of people probably believe Krugmen
Why shouldn't they. It is what they want to hear. Just spend more money and hire more people. Then, push a button, and we are back. No pain.
Nobody wants to hear the truth. That it would take at least a decade of pain to put the house in order.
Reading the comments after the Huffpo article that listed Tyler/ZeroHedge and Banzai among The 25 Most Dangerous People In The Financial Media, I was struck by the number that were outraged that Krugman was not listed among them -- let alone at the top of the list.
So yeah, weird as it seems a lot of people believe what Krugman says.

It does make me think about Geek Girl's comment on WmBanzai's LiViN' IT UP AT THe HoTeL NeiN... yesterday about using "dangerous" to describe that group of clear-thinking and -talking people when others like Krugman and the other financial terrorists who enslave the people through advocating and enacting bad policy are not called out.
Seeing him yuk it up on Colbert looking like a little marsupial while remembering he'd like us to be in WWIII to shake us out of this economic mess pisses me off because I don't think that people really understand the ramifications of what he really wants.

Yep. If not for the number of people that put faith in his "expertise" he'd be just another pontificating crank.
Hell, if Krugman started ranting about an incoherent economic postulate that he called "US citizenism", he'd win another Nobel Economics Sweepstakes Award.
Why is everyone suddenly trying to get ZeroHedge hits over at Obama Pickle Smoking Huffpo? I've noticed an increase lately.
That list is missing a very valuable contributor to economic truth, probably one of the very best, Russia Time's Capital Account program on Youtube. Intelligent, detailed interviews where the beautiful host asks the right questions every time. Much better than the Keiser report for serious analysis and free of Max's often stupid hyperbole which damages his credibility with mainstream audiences when it is those audiences, not us, who need a waking up.
The other Sunday morning here in the Land of Drive-In Churches and Sunday liquor sales, I was standing in line at my local Supermercado waiting to check out, enjoying a thumbing of the National Enquirer when the fellow behind me with only a Sunday NY Times in his hand says to me: "Don't you just love it? I can't wait till Sunday when I can get my New York Times."
I responded; "I'm always curious for a dose of Communist Propaganda."
He got mad.
Ah, life and times in Sunny California.

Your enjoyment of National Enquirer explains why you wouldn't like NY Times , propaganda or not they write some pretty good stories. And sometimes they are not the same ones every week with a different person pregnant/divorced/cheating like in National Enquirer.
In the non-global warmening sections of the science departments, sure they write a few good articles. Elsewhere, bah!
NYT? You tell me the subject, I'll write the story. Same Yupper West Side drivel for the last 50 years. The WSJ has better quality features now.. I love telling lefties it outsellls Carlos Slims rag 2 to 1.
The US will certainly be Greece if Obama is reelected. So Krugman is boosting Romney, perhaps unintentionally.
Greece? You mean 17 other countries are going to bail us out while we do hardly any work? Vote Obama!
So... IRELAND or ISRAEL?
Umm... I'll take IRELAND...
==> Gimme IRELAND
==> Gimme ISRAEL
===> Gimme ICELAND
===> Gimme SOME OTHER BANKSTER ASS-RAPED FORMERLY SOVEREIGN COUNTRY
he looks like something that came out of bernake s ass, fucking rat
A Krugerroid?
Long Preparation K.
Krugman? I thought your time in the barrel was over? ...
given the choice of romney and obamma ... I say obamma seem like a better choice. Who knows? with no re-election hanging over him he actually might try to do what he said he would do 4 years ago.
Like you mean really wreck the country? Actually, we need to just let the Democrats win the whole thing. House, Senate, WH. Have it your way you whiney little babies. Then we can really see how great their ideas were. There is never enough spending for the Democrats. So spend whatever you really think should get everything "back to normal". See where that lands us.....
It never ceases to amaze me how they complain about Bush. Yet they want Obama to double down, triple down, and quadruple down or more on just about everything Bush stood for. Bush spent too damn much money, yet they want Obama to spend 3x more. Its like they hated Bush, yet love Obama who is like Bush cubed.
I've been saying the same thing for the past 2 years. Let em have the whole damn govt. and it will ensure that these do-nothings never get into power again...for a while atleast
Let them have the whole damn government? Within two years, people would be tunneling under the fence into Mexico. The rich would be flying to North Korea.
And the senseless checking of voter registration cards continues.
Problem. With. That. ===> Once they've got the Supreme Court they want, we'll never get the Constitution back again.
We're hanging by a thread already as it is, with initials odds on monstrosities like Obamacare's individual mandate split 5-4, whereas it is obviously a 9-0 thing, and should have been back in FDR's time too. It is called the Commerce Clause, interstate that is, not the Top Down Central Planning Clause.
They already had it from 2008-2010 and they screwed it up even worse, remember? My new motto is: "If they can't trusted then they must be flush'ded"
Didn't the Democrats control both houses in Obama's first two years. Why didn't it all get solved then?
The same two houses got a head start screwing things up in the last two years of Bush's last term.
Pragmatic Hobo? As in basement baby, that writes code?
Go to the park next to an Airport, and befriend a pilot, who (intern/inturn) , knows a busines owner.
Get a job and some self esteem! Get it ( Pragmatic Hobo)? Then learn how to design things after you get a education, on the job!
If you have not figured out that you voted for a radical liberal (maybe your good with that) by now your hopeless.
I say obamma seem like a better choice. Who knows? with no re-election hanging over him he actually might try to do what he said he would do 4 years ago.
Or if that doesn't work, maybe if we make him dictator for life he actually might try to do what he said he would do!
Can someone just punch Krugman in the mouth already? That might shut him up for a few minutes.
Reminds me of a joke:
Q. How do you get a clown to quit smiling?
A. Hit him in the face with an axe!
I'd rather look like Iceland Krugtard
Krugman is a cartoon character like Eric Burnett...
Krugman may indeed have boobs. Can't tell for the tweed though.
In the 1930's America had industry and people were proud to work for a living. In 2012, thanks to Krugman, Bernanke and the rest of the Financialization Criminals, America has Welfare, Crime, and Chinese imports.
Is there a problem with that ? Fuck no, says Paul.
As soon as the Iran thing warms up, China is going to repatriate Taiwan. Then we will rue the day America built the Chinese Frankenstein.
Krugs is obviously right, he won a nobel peace price in economics. Only the best and brightest win those prizes ya know...
I got mine in a Cracker Jacks box...
At least I had to actually do something like 'open the box' to earn it.
Actually largely true in science. Economics/literature not science.
And almost a counter indicator of goodness in the "Peace" domain. Yassir Arafat, Barack Obama, TBD on which body count was worse. The theft level comparison is no contest though.
So no mention of Arafat sharing the prize with Rabin. The Zionists did them both in. How do you feel about that and the ramifications for peace?
Not only is he a Nobel Prize winner, he is also a Professional Blogger. How could you not trust him?
"Thats the same number of his books I haven't read"
Like there's much of a difference between Romney and Obama. Obamney is more like it. It's purely down to the punch in the face or the punch in the face between these two. Forget the punch to the stomach. Those days are over.
it takes a real loser to be as disgusting as the plastic, empty-headed, salesman scumbag that is Romney, but Obama the empty suit, sellout douche bag has done it. This election has to be the biggest loser's bowl of the past 50 years. We lose no matter who we get.
Deal with it and start doing what you can to strap in for the this country to fly over the cliff and crash. These idiots can do a lot of damage during the free fall down, which is a long way down.
then i guess the Monkey Wrench Gang will have to live on. Oh, well.
Yeahhh. You guys are keepers!

I am going full retard and writing in McCain for president :)
Have you forgotten the National Defense Authorization Act he wrote?
Cloud9.5 asked:
I'm pretty sure McCain's forgotten it by now. The senile old coot thinks he's still running in the 2008 presidential campaign.
Surely you meant '04, or '00, or . . .
Point well taken.
Obama is a radical liberal who believes in wealth redistribution and his father was an avowed Marxist. Other than that small difference yeah they are similar.
Obama a radical liberal? LMFAO!!!!!!
Quit listening to RusHannity, Bill O'Lie-ly and Faux News and look at reality. Obama's a corporate suckass from the get go. I know we have to label the guy a liberal to maintain the fake Left/Right myth our owners want us to argue over instead of watching them steal from us. But Obama is no liberal. There hasn't been a real liberal running as a viable presidential candidate since I turned 18 in 1979. Ralph Nader's the closest thing and he's never had a chance since he's smarter than most of the sheople.
By the way, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II also believed in wealth redistribution, as well as Clinton...from the bottom and middle upwards. Hence a good reason we are here now. Stop believing what you are told to believe and look at the real world. You'll likely see the real pickpocketing occur instead of only noticing the distraction.
If you're going to junk it at least explain where I am wrong....if you can.
I agree. Romney is an empty suit. Romney is a PTB Puppet. We lose, either way.
That being said, I'm still VOTING for ROMNEY. I've been reading a lot of these 'Romney's no better than Obama', blah, blah, blah, posts for some time now. What I think is REALLY going on is Obama Sock Puppets are all over the web, saying this. They hope that by convincing everyone there's no 'difference', nobody will turn up at the polls and Obama then is a 'shoe-in'.
VOTE FOR ROMNEY! ROMNEY 2012! Anyone but OBUMMER in 2013!
I admit that I usually find most Republican candidates and their need to be a bigger conservative asshole than the other ranting asshole quite loathsome. However, I'm no Obama supporter either.
I do agree with you on Romney. I may vote for him too as I am certain that if he wins along with a few of those fire-breathing, religious hypocrite, fascist rethuglicans, they will step on the accelerator and scream this bitch over the cliff at top speed. Obama will likely muddle through another 4 years of insignificance and as a result, delay the collapse. Romney and a crew of righteous Rethugs, on the other hand, will look for wars to start, start picking on the minority groups of Americans they hate, crank up the phony drug war and start implementing some of those new Fatherland Security laws they trash in Congress recently passed. They'll get the bonfire stoked up good and expedite the fall from grace. Why muddle through with smoke bombs and snakes when you can play with M-80s and gasoline?
No, its a question of thinking strategically. The next presidential term is going to be a flaming ball of disaster for whoever has it, and both candidates are too incompetent (or too status quo) to do anything meaningful about it.
The question then becomes- who should be on the bridge of the Titanic?
As contemptible as the Republican party is, their failure will take out the tiny fragment of slightly less contemptible politicians remaining so I would rather see BO on the bridge when it rolls over.
Anyone who thinks there is any substantive difference between two should shoot their TV and radio. If thats what you really think, I really think you are a moron. Talk about a flipping sock puppet...
Romney is a gutless worm- massive deficit spending, blueprint for Obamacare, hostile to semi auto rifles, appointed liberal judges etc. etc. Only in some places where his party is irrelevent anyhow (New England, California, and so on) does he even classify as remotely on the political right and get much support, and who gives a damn what a northeastern or left coast repub thinks anyhow? They are the most meaningless group in the country in terms of politics.
Kman = Enron consultant = shit for brains.
I kind of want to click the link and listen to that jackass make himself look like a fool, but i cant get myself to do it. I'm afraid it will end in rage, tears or vomit.
Or all three. I call it the "Krug Trifecta".
I was thinking the same but Colbert really makes this Jackass look like a Jack's-ass, .. not sure if that was intended though
Can we stop using the term "economist" and use the more appropriate term "shill"?
I prefer "clown" for him
It is amazing how many folks get their info from the likes of these kinds of shows and interviews.
America's biggest problem right now is the inability for anyone to determine real truth. Paul Krugman can get on a show and spout nonsense about spending money we do not have and the host does not even mention a peep about the debt.
sschu
Some one help me out here, has Krugman ever been right about anything, ever? His track record appears to be as sterling as Zimbabwe Ben's batting a smooth .000. Not that I like Romney...shit can barely tell the difference between Obama and Romney, they both have the same group shoving a hand up their ass to puppet them. Though I would rather Obama get a second term, after all if there is going to be no change at least Obama can't claim to be small government at this point.
Why does he have to be right? Is the SEC ever right? Is the Fed freak show ever right? Is Congress ever right? Is anybody in the White House Nut House ever right? No, no, no, no.
Being right means they have to think logically and be accountable, and put the interests of America over their own weird inclinations.
So no, he's never been right.
They will give a nobel prize to anyone these days.
The Swedish Banking Association Award for Hoodoo Voodoo is not a Nobel Prize, and is not awarded by the Nobel Committee.
The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel

Matt said:
That brings up a good point. When discussing hacks like Krugman (who really should be thankful just for the residuals he gets for reruns of The Odd Couple and Quincy), it only gives them false accolades to refer to them as Nobel Prize recipients.
The Nobel Prizes were established in 1895 by the will of Alfred Nobel. The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, commonly referred to as the Nobel Economics Prize, was established in 1968 by the world's oldest central bank, Sveriges Riksbank, to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the bank's founding.
The bank essentially bought Nobel naming rights for their prize in what was, in my opinion, nothing more than an attempt to purchase quasi-scientific legitimacy for the field of economics.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sveriges_Riksbank_Prize_in_Economic_Science...
Perhaps a better term for the recipients would be "winner of the Nobel Economics Participation Trophy" or "Nobel Economics Sweepstakes winner".
Krugman is a genius.
If TPTB listened to him and ramped up spending and hiring, we would not be in his mess.
The Eurozone crisis wouldn't have happened.
... JUST a little snarky aren't we?
He went all in on Facebook. A month later and it still stings.
Right, because they didn't spend enough money in the Eurozone with all the government largesse they insist on over there. They are butt ass broke. And we want to emulate them.
"bankruptcy 60 years ago" probably wouldn't have been all that bad for the EU now that you made me think of it.

The US is a bankrupt nation without a government.
And becoming bernankrupter by the day - we shouldbecome more efficient by merging the fed and the treasury - there is no real need to keep a budget going forward.
Hell yeah. Let's move Bernanke in with Timmy, cut out the middle men and print only. Then we will no longer need to tax anything.
Great Idea.
Krugman... Can somebody remove this imbecile from his perch before he slips up and calls ZerO our only and anointed savior?
"due to a "whole lot of opposition from 'the other guys'"."
what BS that statement is... Obama, as the leader of his party, had control of both houses of congress and the executive branch for the first two years of his administration and what did he do with it? He has made a bad economic situation far worse than it had to be.... I hope Romney gets elected and takes a private equity AX to the government.
I'll take any bet that doesnt happen. No offense, but its delusional to think that there will be any meaningful change if Romney gets elected.
