Luxury Chinese Boat Launches, Sinks Immediately

Tyler Durden's picture

The following video is just replete with floundering symbolism of the Chinese economic miracle. One explanation for the fiasco:  the boat's hold was filled with copper...

Via gCaptain:

Details of what actually went down in this incident are bit fuzzy being that most every report is in Chinese, but from what we gather, a highly anticipated luxury leisure boat being built by the city of Lanzou located in the Gansu Province of China nearly sank immediately after the vessel was launched on September 29th.  The vessel, the SS Jiugang, reportedly cost over 17 million RMB (over $2.5m USD) and its launch failure was salt in the wounds for the already expensive and highly questioned project.

Thankfully, the vessel was not a total loss. The SS Jiugang was salvaged and is currently undergoing repairs for a second launching to be held soon.

We can't wait for the video from that one.

As for the first, here it is:

Interesting list. Chernobyl at #1, at $200 billion. No doubt the Gulf oil spill would make that list, as would Fukushima, which will eventually be #1.

Well the USA is totally f***k'ed with freeloaders, illegals, Obam supporters and union goons but 14 year old kids in many American neighborhoods could have built a safer "boat."

Ditto the Europeans.  The Chinese never really projected much sea power though some claim they did. The Norwegians and Dutch are among the smartest people around water.  The Germans make these state of the art silent subs.  The Finns make these huge floating cities in ugly modern cruise ships.  The South Koreans can build supertankers.

Keep the Chinese away from water.  They don't have a ****ing clue.

I wouldn't call what I do "trading". Got out of bonds too early (end of september), but didn't miss what I think was the top by much. Made a capital gain on the whole thing even though I was buying while others mocked and I overpaid at times. Advice to Chinese:

Stick to making cheap consumer products whose failure won't cause loss of life. Let the West handle the big boy stuff.

Ridiculously funny launch. Anyone living near a river could have told them that shallow bottom river boats have to be craned onto the water or floated from a dry dock. It looks decidedly plasticky and unfinished too - fucking wires are still hanging from the ceiling ready to electrocute the first passeger. Probably cost a couple of hundred thousand to build, and the rest pocketed by the crazies milling around the launch.

Just a Chinese stupid viliage boat sinks into the Yellow River messing around by some stupid rich who has too money to spend on, that makes a porno show for the entire ZH to get high.

I beg Chinese people do have a reason to get high when they seeing a bunch of planes crashed in many air shows this year in America and the on-going Occupy Wall St. Circus show.

And US is at the moment still having a record deficit with China because Americans cannot live without Chinese junk. That makes me feel sad.
