Man Arrested In New York Terror Plot

Tyler Durden's picture

Just hitting the headlines, probably related to Mike Bloomberg's 7:30 pm announcement:

  • NY AUTHORITIES ARREST MAN IN BOMBING PLOT, N.Y. TIMES REPORTS
  • MAN WANTED TO DETONATE BOMB IN BUILDING WITH GOVT WORKERS: NYT
  • NY TIMES SAYS MAN WAS ARRESTED WITHIN THE LAST 24
  • MAN HAD BEEN UNDER SURVEILLANCE FOR A YEAR, N.Y. TIMES REPORTS
  • NY AUTHORITIES TO ANNOUNCE CHARGES AGAINST MAN TONIGHT

More from the NYT:

The authorities have arrested a man who law enforcement officials believe was planning to build and detonate a bomb in New York with government workers, returning military personnel and elected officials as the target, two people briefed on the case said on Sunday. Cyrus R. Vance Jr.,  the Manhattan district attorney, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly of the New York Police Department announced the charges against the man at a Sunday evening news conference at City Hall.

The man was arrested within the last 24 hours.

The defendant in the case, identified as Jose Pimentel, 27, had bought bomb-making materials and “began to build them,” said one person briefed on the case, who added that the Police Department had had the man under surveillance for about a year. “The Police Department basically had an informant with this guy,” said a second law enforcement official familiar with the investigation. “The guy is sort of giving to the informant all of these material on bomb building and talking about building a bomb and supporting the mujahedeen by targeting — he’s kind of all over the place; sometimes it’s targeting servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan, sometimes it’s the police, sometimes its build it and test it, but it’s all over the place.”

You would be truly shocked if you knew the number of people they have "under surveillance."  Truly shocked.

For starters, try every person in the United States who has OR HAS EVER HAD a security clearance.  That's right, all are "under surveillance" via automatic interception of their telecommunications which are parsed and datamined for actionable information and building "profiles."  How far the program extends beyond that, I cannot say.  They certainly aren't interested in using these systems against convicted child rapists or murderers.  No, those people are no threat to "national security", which has vastly higher priority for the powers that be than your personal safety (you don't think the police state is here to protect you, do you?).

It is only logical to assume that they are also using their police state apparatus to surveil political dissidents, anyone connected to Wikileaks (including journalists), the "alternative media" (the people that run zero hedge, Alex Jones), and various politicians (Ron Paul, anyone else not "with the program").

The U.S. is a high tech surveillance based police state.  Most of you don't realize just how deep the rabbit hole goes because you've never worked in law enforcement or another part of the security/intel establishment.

We then swept in and made the arrest, making the world safe for democracy once again. Over all, some changes need to be made in the process. We need to start testing potential terrorists. Zero Hedge blogger Dasa Slooofoot wrote today:

Did you know that Bloombergs daughter also is working for a private network of spy-cams in Lower Manhattan to surveill and counter any looming threat /protest ?

Yes.  60 Minutes did a piece celebrating it.

On October 18, 2011, CounterPunch had this exclusive:  Meet the “Lower Manhattan Security Initiative”:Wall Street Firms Spy on Protesters In Tax-Funded Center by PAM MARTENS that mentions "Mike" Bloomberg. It begins…

“Wall Street’s audacity to corrupt knows no bounds and the cooptation of government by the 1 per cent knows no limits.  How else to explain $150 million of taxpayer money going to equip a government facility in lower Manhattan where Wall Street firms, serially charged with corruption, get to sit alongside the New York Police Department and spy on law abiding citizens.

“According to newly unearthed documents, the planning for this high tech facility on lower Broadway dates back six years.   In correspondence from   2005 that rests quietly in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s archives, NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly promised Edward Forst, a  Goldman Sachs’ Executive Vice President at the time, that the NYPD ‘is committed to the development and implementation of a comprehensive security plan for Lower Manhattan…One component of the plan will be a centralized coordination center that will provide space for full-time, on site representation from Goldman Sachs and other stakeholders’.” ….

Egypt protests: Death toll up in Cairo's Tahrir Square

"Thousands of Egyptian protesters remain in Cairo's Tahrir Square after two days of clashes in which at least 13 people were killed and hundreds injured.

A total of 11 people were reportedly killed on Sunday and two on Saturday, according to medical sources. Health officials say as many as 900 have been injured, including at least 40 security personnel.

The demonstrators, some wearing gas masks, say they fear Egypt's interim military rulers are trying to retain their grip on power."

Washington’s Enemy ”Doesn’t Exist" is the answer to a lot of human misery;  it dispels much of the humbug and terrorism coming out of DC  The following passage I thought particularly enlightening because it is from someone with hands on experience. But will an Israeli-controlled Congress that gives Netanyahu 56 applauses and standing ovations in one speech for "fear of the Jews," and a puppet-on-a-string President ("I have to deal with him [Netanyahu] every day") ever listen?

Historian Michael Scheuer, an author of "Through our enemies’ eyes", who worked for the agency for over 20 years till 2004 and at one time was the chief of the CIA’s ‘Bin Laden unit’, says America’s greatest enemy – radical Islam – never existed: neither when Bin Laden was alive, nor now.

Israeli lobby drag America into wars

Actually, “it is America’s relationship with Israel that is causing this war [on Islam]”, and until Americans accept this, “we are not going to defeat this enemy,” the author says.

Michael Scheuer believes it is the Israeli lobby in America that is dragging the US into wars.

“In Israel itself as a country, it is not a problem. The real problem is the leaders of the Jewish American community in the US, who influence and corrupt our Congress to support Israel when we have no interest there,” he states.

“The American political establishment is caught between two things. They are extremely pro-Israel and they are almost Marxist in their belief that the spread of democracy is inevitable in all places, in all peoples, in all time,” evaluates the former CIA officer, adding that in their desire to protect Israel, the US establishment cannot tell what’s real.

And this is news why?  Odds are he was arrested because it made a good headline at a good time rather than any actual threat he presented.  That's the way the system works.  When they find some marginal, potentially violent dickhead they keep him in inventory as it were until they need a headline.  If you actually believe that he was a credible threat then you don't appreciate the propaganda system.  Not one, as in ZERO, zip, zilch, nada, authority figures have been threatened, attacked, seriously injured let alone killed by any of the "radicals."  The converse statement is not true as they have seriously injured protesters at regular interval and continue to do so citing "standard procedure" as their defense.  This is all P.R. hype bullshit.  Police state stuff.  Real far from a "democracy."  The authorities are worried because they know they are going to have to bail out the banks again within the next 180 days and they don't want these protests front and center when they have to give the bankers more trillions so they are using violence.  What does that tell you?

Man I am just beside myself reading this comment thread. What Krugman and other Keynesians don't seem to understand is that governments can not create real growth because  government spending can only come from two places, taxation which removes the money from the economy and monetization which devalues the currency and leads to inflation. Both options remove wealth, they do not create it. It is a very simple concept, however admiting the truth of this renders central planned government worthless and puts a whole lot of career politicians and gov sponsored economists out of a job. Since they actually have no value to a production orientated economy, what are we going to do with them? Krugman makes the point that the inflationary prices are transitory due to what he believes to be a fact that the money supply will eventually expand to equalize the percentage of income it takes to absorb the higher cost. IE I used to make $100 and spent $10 on gas, gas increased to $20 and eventually due to monetary expansion my pay increases to $200 and my energy expenditure equalized back to the original average of 10% of net income. This is all bullshit classroom economic theory. Wages never equalize to the point of inflation, only adding more work or additional household wage earners to the equation does life revert to affordability. Free time must be sacrificed in order to make up for the transitory prices. I could go on and on citing real world examples to decimate every single Keynesian academic theory but I simply don't have time right now an I'm typing this on a smartphone.

@Market Watch Terrorist

I'm sure that Big Brother is watching all dissidents very closely, but everybody in America is getting clued in now, so soon, they will have to start surveilling just about everyone.

Alex Jones used to be considered on the fringe by your average person, his views were considered looney, but not anymore. What was considered a conspiracy theory, is now, widely viewed, as fact. Almost everyone thinks like a conspiracy theorist today. It's reaching a tipping point like I have never seen before.

And the more that the powers that be lie and ignore the intelligence of the majority of the opinion leaders among the sheeple, the more people will be waking up and realising that there is no difference between the parties.

And the insults keep coming; the UC Davis video, Bloomberg's press black out. People are shocked and appalled at the police actions, regardless of what they think of OWS.

History, both ancient and recent, shows that a powerful central government can easily dominate a vastly larger number of people, regardless of their level of faith in or support for that government.  America has a massive (well paid, and loyal) bureaucracy and more than enough "shooters" (well paid and loyal police at state, local, and federal levels) to clamp down on the peasantry and maintain a police state for the foreseeable future.

...

If necessary.  But it won't be.  I have no faith in the American people or their desire for liberty.  I'm sticking around just long enough to see the outcome of the 2012 presidential election (with my prediction being an Obama sweep due to a third party bid by Ron Paul), after which I am out of here.
