Massive $17 Trillion Hole Found In Obamacare

Tyler Durden's picture

Two years ago, when introducing then promptly enacting Obamacare, the president stated that healthcare law reform would not cost a penny over $1 trillion ($900 billion to be precise), and that it would not add ‘one dime’ to the debt. It appears that this estimate may have been slightly optimistic… by a factor of 1700%. Because coincident with the recent Supreme Court debacle, in which a constitutional law president may be about to find that his magnum opus law is, in fact, unconstitutional, someone actually read the whole thing cover to cover, instead of merely relying on the CBO’s, pardon Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs’, funding estimates. That someone is Republican Jeff Sessions who after actually running the numbers has uncovered that the true long-term funding gap is a mind-boggling $17 trillion, just a tad more than the original sub $1 trillion forecast. This latest revelation means that total underfunded US welfare liabilities: Medicare, Medicaid and social security now amount to $99 trillion! Add to this total US debt which in 2 months will be $16 trillion, and one can see why Japan, which is about to breach 1 quadrillion in total debt (yen, but who's counting), may want to start looking in the rearview mirror for up and comer competitors. And while Obama may have been taking creative license with a number that is greater than total US GDP, he was most certainly correct when saying that Obamacare would not add a penny to US debt. Because the second the US government comes to market to fund a true total debt/GDP ratio of 750%, it is game over, and the Fed will have its hands full selling Treasury puts every waking nanosecond to have any time left for the daily 3pm stock market ramp.

What is it that brought about this discovery of some inverse cash under the rug? The Daily Caller explains.

The hidden shortfall between new spending and new taxes was revealed just after Supreme Court justices grilled the law’s supporters about its compliance with the Constitution’s limits on government activity. If the court doesn’t strike down the law, it will force taxpayers find another $17 trillion to pay for the increased spending.

The $17 trillion in extra promises was revealed by an analysis of the law’s long-term requirements. The additional obligations, when combined with existing Medicare and Medicaid funding shortfalls, leaves taxpayers on the hook for an extra $82 trillion in health care obligations over the next 75 years.

Regular readers are well aware that when it comes to US insolvency, the underfunded American welfare state, whose obligations now amount to $100 trillion!, is the primary cause of this country's ultimate downfall. This latest revelation only makes it that much more certain, and likely, faster.

Currently, the Social Security system is $7 trillion in debt over the next 75 years, according to the Government Accountability Office.

Also, Medicare will eat up $38 trillion in future taxes, and Medicaid will consume another $2o trillion of the taxpayer’s wealth, according to estimates prepared by the actuarial office at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The short-term cost of the Obamacare law is $2.6 trillion, almost triple the $900 billion cost promised by Obama and his Democratic allies, said Sessions.

The extra $17 trillion gap was discovered by applying standard federal estimates and models to the law’s spending obligations, Sessions said.

For example, Session’s examination of the health care law’s “premium support” program shows a funding gap $12 billion wider that predicted.

The same review also showed the law added another $5 trillion in unfunded obligations for the Medicaid program.

Of course, that this "discovery" happened two years after the law was originally proposed and enacted merely once again confirms that other banana republics have nothing on the US, and that America continues to live in a state of sheer chaos when it comes to understanding that every use of funds must ultimately have a source as well.

Jeff Sessions' full presentation.

As a reminder this is what One trillion looks like.

...Now multiply by 17.

Although our free healthcare program is 17 trillion in the hole, 500 new jobs will be lost if SCOTUS voted against my Healthcare Law. Let me be clear, invoking the 8th amendment on our 2,700 page legislation goes to show how racist folks can be.

>> US welfare liabilities: Medicare, Medicaid and social security

So now SS is welfare?  I guess "entitlements" wasn't consescending enough, you had to drop it down to welfare.  I paid close to 15% of my income (self employed) my whole working career, now when I get my payback it's welfare?  Not hard to see there's a bit of an agenda here.

You will get far more than you put in, that is welfare. You will require someone else to work to pay you. Vote to eliminate social security, speak out against wealth redistribution and you can have a clean conscience, otherwise you are simply a thief using the point of the governments gun to obtain that what you have not earned.

This site has a breakdown of taxes paid vs. benefits received for single men and women, couples witha  singel earner and couples where both are earners. Benefits were most lopsided for retirees in the 60's and has lessened slightly year by year since then, but its still a situation where people receive more then they paid. Even in two decades it will still be that way, but not as much as now and definitely not as much as the generation that started the Ponzi.

Wow ... this is like a raging election issue in main stream media, right?

No? ... so basically .. . no one gives a fig, or else understands it, or has any clue what a trillion is, or means.

You can fit kilo, mega, giga and now terrists-bytes on to the same physical-sized hard-drive ... so how much bigger can a trillion bucks be?

When that sort of mentality happens openly and hardly anyone blinks, the US of A as a nation-state is done as a political entity.

The very notion that such a thing can pass into law and there's no mass resignation of the political class, not even a mere fig-leaf of an impeachment, not even a firing squad for the perps.

That's full-retard Orwell.

This legislation/disgrace prompted tens of thousands of citizens to march on the Capitol building. I was there. The media ridiculed us, called us teabaggers, and claimed we spit upon some old civil-rights clowns who marched through the crowd hoping to generate some media content to be used to support calling us something worse than teabaggers. US media is straight-up propaganda. It is spooky.

These large numbers are so annoying. Can we simply say .017 quadrillion instead of 17 trillion. People are starting to get use to the trillion number now after dealing with the billion mark for decades. Bankers and politicians need to condition the populace to the quadrillion term. Besides, only ZH readers are smart enough to see what is happening. Most people can't name two senators from their state.

U.S. Homeland Security Buys 450 Million Hollow-Point Bullets

Is the U.S. Government expecting domestic insurrection?
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office is getting an “indefinite delivery” of an “indefinite quantity” of .40 caliber ammunition from defense contractor ATK.

U.S. agents will receive a maximum of 450 million rounds over five years, according to a press release on the deal.

The high performance HST bullets are designed for law enforcement and ATK says they offer “optimum penetration for terminal performance.”

Hawaii Official Signs Affidavit: No Obama Birth Certificate

Former Hawaii elections clerk Tim Adams has now signed an affidavit swearing he was told by his supervisors in Hawaii that no long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate existed for Barack Obama Jr. in Hawaii and that neither Queens Medical Center nor Kapi'olani Medical Center in Honolulu had any record of Obama having been born in their medical facilities.

Adams was employed at the City and County of Honolulu Elections Division from May 2008 through September 2008.

His position was senior elections clerk, overseeing a group of 50 to 60 employees responsible for verifying the identity of voters at the Absentee Ballot Office. It was in this capacity that Adams became aware of the search for Obama's birth-certificate records.

It appears there are two objectives of "ObamaCare:"

1. Cloward-Piven: overwhelm the financial standing of the Republic and implode it.

2. Use the health-care aspect of the Bill to conceal the true intention: control of the population via government data-aggregation and enforcement (at gunpoint) by IRS agents.

3. After "the system" collapses, use the new throngs of agents and agencies to maintain a prison-state, with and without bars....

You are the Resistance.

Are you saying that because he made racist remarks ala the long serving Democrat Senator and KKK member Robert Byrd that means that he is lying and that is why he would be willing to request to 3rd party for verification?

What exactly are you saying? The fact you have 4 up votes is disgusting. Any American with any concern for the future of this country should want to know as much as they can about a bill that was not read or understood by one f'ing person that voted for it nor the person that sponsored it.

Thank you Jeff Sessions for your research. Thank you for having your staff actually READ the bill.

So, now that the gig is almost up, I just got one question for the libs here: going forward how are you going to cheat the math now? Interest rates can never ever rise again, or all of the US GDP will be needed to just pay interest on Chalky's debt. All of your wonderful redistributionist schemes are bullshit now: tax the rich 100% and it wouldn't run gov't but a week or so.

The truth is the game IS over: math says so, just go ask Greece. It's only a matter of time until the riots and all the shit Amerikans watched on TV about Greece, start happening here.

Oh, OK.  It says $17 trillion over 75 years.  That's a big fat $226 billion per year.  Discounted, at 5%, an average of $58 billion per year.  That's about 2.6% of 2006 health care spending levels, or about 1% of projected health care spending levels.  So is that the error range in....ANYTHING projected over 75 years?   Seems kind of stupid.

I guess the Tylers left the math at the bar last night?  Really, what is this even about?  Playing with decimal places and using a century long projection to make fools out of the credulous?

Oh well, whatever: EVERYBODY PANIC

By the way, someone project pet food sales over 75 years so we can get all frothy about that too.  And what is the S&P going to be in 2087?  LOL...Jesus....

Hey Jim...the difference is Gov't mandated versus free market (pet food sales...S&P).

See the huge difference? Well the S&P under Turbo tax Timmy and Ben Dover Bernanke is soon to be Gov't mandated as well.

I am not saying anything good about the law.  I know for a fact that the health insurance industry is delighted with it, which should give anyone pause.

We just have enough to deal with without overblown, faux-apocalyptic headlines based on nothing...or worse, parroting conventional MSM-style garbage points for the dimwits who planted this story.

Sad part, is that when 75 years is bandied about, it's like the 25 year projections, when ironically the first year or two come in alittle over budget, massaging the numbers becomes routine[?], but the reality hits finally when the 'Happy Ending' wears-off, and the mystics disappear miraculously,... while the deficit-lag increases exponentially, as we've seen with our; thy-daily-bread-budget, gone missing or stale?

Social Security is NOT to be lumped in with Medicare and Medicaid unless you're a Republican jackass. It's amazing how "there's no difference between the two political parties" but the word choice says there is. I pay into my own Social Security.

Republican tax cuts have been in place now for 11 years. Where are the US jobs? ALL Congressionsal Republicans and the Republican leadership, including Murdoch, Ailes, and Limbaugh, should be out looking for jobs. Take the Faux Noise cameras, the ACORN pimp and prostitute, and film the process. In my state, with the Republican tax cuts in place for a decade, there were only 2,000 private sector jobs created in one year. We have to get to the point in the US where we confront Republicans and call them liars to their face. They have to hear it and understand it. They don't have to like it. Oh, yeah, I forgot, "both parties are the same."

Oh yeah, that's right you are all full of sh&*!

Talk about being full of shit...

Its quite possible (and common in this particular neighborhood) to have a problem with both. The fact that your immediate response is "Well what about XYZ"? should tell you something- you arent thinking, you are regurgitating a script designed to refute some other tard with another script.

Your head is stuck in a very dark place with alot of methane- pull it out quickly because you're running low on functional neurons.

The overwhelming majority of information that you find here pertaining to economics is bullshit. The same goes even farther when it pertains to understanding of taxation, health care  and unfunded liabilities.

Consider that the opinions of some of the world's largest hedge fund managers who manage money for the elites are advanced and promoted here as facts, rather than as orchestrated hedge fund disinformation. The goal of these think tank agents is advancement of policies that benefit rent seekers at the expense of the public.  The one idea that is getting a lot of attention is interest rate income, here, the goal is to increase the amount that the government distributes as interest payment, To achieve this, they propose cuts in Medicare.

But the most blatant lie is that increasing taxation on the top income earners won't bring any additional revenue: if one doubles effective tax rates to 40% on the top 5% that alone would bring in excess of $500 billion.

Now, if you consider at what income does the 5% start, it's $159,619 in 2010.  Perhaps the government has grown too fucking big?

And their solution is to monetize the whole she-bang!  I wonder if it will happen in my lifetime... Hey bud, can you change a "Googolplex Dollar Bill?"

The big numbers past a trillion, in ascending powers of ten, are as follows: quadrillion, quintillion, sextillion, septillion, octillion, nonillion, decillion, undecillion, duodecillion, tredecillion, quattuordecillion, and quindecillion (that's 10 to the 48th, or a one followed by 48 zeros). But wait -- there's more.

The highest number listed on Robert Munafo's table, which coincidentally is our new favorite number, is a milli-millillion. Say that three times fast! That's 10 to the 3000003rd. For something closer to home, a centillion is 10 to the 303rd.

The googolplex has often been nominated as the largest named number in the world. If a googol is ten to the one hundredth, then a googolplex is one followed by a googol of zeroes. Ugh, we think we feel a headache coming on.

The aforementioned mathematician and large number fan Robert Munafo offers a table of megadigits on his personal page. You'll also find some biggies at Russ Rowlett's page at the University of North Carolina.

There are many people who believe that all Treasury securities are as good as cash.

In fact, Bruce Webb at Angry Bear thinks they are better than cash, for Treasuries pay interest!

He probably belongs with many others, so many that the viewpoint has a name: ThE Trust Fund Perspective.

These people believe that Medicare Part D is fully funded!

As you know, Part D is funded 25% by beneficiaries and 75% by general revenues, which is an immediate budget expense.

Despite the cash flow, many, many peoiple believe Part D is fully funded.

So, what's $100 trillion, if it is already paid for when it is issued, either in 75 years or in 2 years!

Something interesting happened since Obamacare was passed.  Charity care is disappearing because the "government will take care of it".  What happens when it's declared unconstitutional?  Charity will likely not return.  How will people who need health care get it?

Chalk another one up for unintended consequences.

As far as charity goes, depends on where you live I guess. Im in a very small town and fundraisers are common for these things, Ive bought tickets to multiple gun raffles and money raising lunches and donated small amounts of money outright- all for medical costs. Ive been told that the gun raffles arent necessarily entirely legal, but Ive heard even the cops buy tickets with a wink and a smile. There is nearly always a fundraiser going on for someone, one guy raised $25K for a medical procedure over the last two months that he will be having this month. Small communities find ways to pass the hat so to speak.

In a large city where nobody knows anyone else or gives a damn? Good luck.

No worries, this government won't last another 5 years, much less 75.

Whoever the next president is may well preside over the downfall of America.

So?

The whole debt based global economy is set up to entrap sovereign nations into "debts" so huge that they are maneuvered into joining the New World Order.

Sure, there's a little fussing and fighting, but just like the E.U., America will join the NWO.  Indeed, America is the military center of the NWO empire.

All in due time.
