Meet America's New Largest Publicly Traded Company (If Only For A Few Minutes)
Today we passed a historic milestone in which a company making niche fad products for the modern version of the Borg collective just surpassed in market cap a company extracting and processing the most valuable product for the modern industrial economy. We doubt this will be sustained (at some point Americans will be forced to pay their mortgages, probably after the TARP 2 rescue of Bank of America), but in the meantime, and for those collecting "first ever" charts, here is Apple trading above XOM in market cap, making it the largest publicly traded company in the US.

I wonder how easy it is for a chinese person to just quit thier "job" (assuming they aren't any form of indentured servitude) and find another, while trying to maintain personal integrity and demand fair treatment from employers. I wonder what the chinese government would do to people trying to stand up for themselves and demand some better workers rights...

Actually this is the NEW NORMAL.....a toy maker leading the USA...kind of says something doesn´t it???
more than a few whaling companies were more valuable than standard oil in 1870.
I still believe in the Ipads as a work tool but I also think it's at the top of it's life cycle. So Apply will yet again need to come up with a new product to justify this kind of market cap.
And for the Iphone the life cycle is already going down as android are becomming a pretty well known alternative.
The androids also start to exist with dual processors and it's cheaper and easier to make apps which was the main advantage of Apple.
After newyear when their sales will peak, it will be time to short it.
AAPL shareholders knew this day would come: it was only a matter of time before AAPL would beat out XOM.
That should be quite the commentary on what illusion money printing America represents..an land of consumers and consumers only.
