Merkel Goes Braveheart: Debt 'Can' Take Our Freedom
Angela Merkel stepped up to mic, absent the blue face-paint and kilt and announced to world that debt is slavery. While William Wallace Mel Gibson told his 'overlords' that "They may take our lives, but they'll never take our FREEDOM!", it appears Ms. Merkel, in an ironic twist of sanity, is telling her serfs that is exactly what she can do (remind us again how much more debt Greece just ended up actually owing after their restructuring?): Via Bloomberg:
- *MERKEL SAYS RUNNING UP DEBTS ROBS A NATION OF ANY FREEDOM
At the same time she noted:
- *MERKEL SAYS TOO MANY GERMANY STATES ARE STILL SPENDING TO MUCH

Total BS, debt didn't take Iceland's freedom.
Giving up your own currency: now THAT takes away your freedom.
> MERKEL SAYS TOO MANY GERMANY STATES ARE STILL SPENDING TO MUCH
But I thought all those Keynesians said that SPENDING = PROSPERITY.... I'm perplexed....
Joe Biden: ‘We Have to Go Spend Money to Keep From Going Bankrupt’http://cnsnews.com/node/51162
(yes, Biden really did say that!)
So which is it you dumb fucks?! Spending avoids bankruptcy, or spending leads to debt which leads to slavery?
We need deflation so prices of things arent't so high, so it dosen't cost countries so much to pay for things it needs, and so therefore countries don't have to run up national debts because of high prices for stuff.
That's exactly right. People in my generation can't afford to buy homes because they are too expensive. Home prices need to come DOWN, way down. But of course that would mean the banks would take huge losses....
Either we get fucked, or the banks who created this mess get fucked.
dude, we're already fucked.
"Giving up your own currency: now THAT takes away your freedom."
Well,
Give government the power to print it's own fiat trash and you do lose your freedom!
Or double down and let a private banking cartel do it!
pods
well said Pods. If Merkel was really going "Braveheart," she'd get drunk in a Mercedes then tell the cops it's all the jews fault.
Mild contraction of the circulation promped by people redeeming banknotes and sending bullion overseas, that would bring down prices, restore terms of trade favorably. This would in turn progressively bring back bulion from overseas until too many notes issuance would result in mild inflation and some people again redeeming banknotes and so on and so forth. Because the Gold exchange standard at the Genoa convention could not find enough Gold from Germany, the Gold AND the notes were counted together, resulting in double counting Gold, massive monetary expansion (roaring twenties, Florida bubble of 1925) and when the contraction comes it is very severe because Gold is priced so low. Genoa should have restored the notes to Gold ratio advocated under 1848 banking charter. Now we reboot with Bretton Woods but we ignore the lessons of the Bank charter of 1848. A man from the currency school of XIX century woul have made a 100% accurate call on the Gold trade of 1971. Since then, because we have no redemption mechanism we are in false belief that contraction of the circulation is bad and avoidable. It is neither of the two. If it comes in short cycle, it is perfectly fine. Contraction of the circulatiin there will be, it will be massive instead of being short and acceptable undef redeemable banking notes system. So inflationary collapse first for years and then the market finally over powers the Fed and steep deflation once Bernanke is unable to force the market to accept treasuries at any price, the market, the people, riots, something will force the contraction to happen. Gold would be at the roof but then as the massive contraction has finally happened, time to part with your Gold and buy the destroyed paper and the destroyed equities. Wait for the contraction to do that.

Deflation is not allowed...mention it one more time and I will tell on you...
Yes in the wild it does act as part of a normal regulatory mechanism but in our world, you know the real world that we have had built for us by our masters the bankers, it is not even needed because up is so much better than down...no one likes down Michael...
It's all good. The asset backing the debt is the freedom of the German people, and it's only been rehypothecated two or three times...or a few times...or a handful of times...
Acht und neunzig?!!! Ach, du lieber Gott in Himmel!
I was at the gym yesterday and caught a headline on CNN that Biden is forming an exploratory committee into a possible run for the POTUS in 2016.
The guy is dumb as a sack full of cat's asses, he'd be perfect.
Ha! I love it! lets just go full retard!
Biden 2016!
Mel Gibson told his 'overlords' that "They may take our lives, but they'll never take our FREEDOM!"
Stirring stuff but please note the end of the film where his head is cut off and his body parts are horse drawn to various parts of Scotland
I'm suprised the US President, and EU one for that matter, haven't had this already 'Executive Ordered' in their meglomaniac range of 'no jury required' powers
I think I get your point, but didn't Iceand cast off their debt and go bankrupt?
Iceland defaulted, and refused to publically back some private debt if I recall... but countries don't necessarily declare bankruptcy in the legal sense. there is not legal bar to claiming that debt, but nor is there a mechanism to force Iceland to pay...
John39, you're wrong. How many bloody times do you need telling?
ICELAND DID NOT DEFAULT.
ICELAND REFUSED TO BAIL OUT IT'S BANKRUPT BANKS
Iceland did not bail out its bankrupt banks. They (the country and people) are still borrowing money and paying their public debts and mortgage payments like everyone else.
Matt, oops! I didn't read down one post to yours before my slight rant above. Thanks for being another person who doesn't talk crap about Iceland ;O)
You can't take away our DEPRESSION!
Debt Deflation BITCHEZZZZ, not just a flaky morning cereal anymore.
Debt is slavery. Slavery is debt.

You give up your freedom when you decide that government should be given power over individuals to solve problem individuals are perfectly capable of solving on their own. Greece become slaves when they decided it was OK to take from one group in order to fund benefits to another. The group being taken from has lost the freedom of their time spent working for that money. They are now essentualy debt slaves to the group that is dependant on them, in that a portion of their (non optional) work life has been taken from them and spent in subservience to another group. The group that benefits has been made dependent and is robbed of control over their economic destiny. This is vividly clear in Greece. No free individual has austerity forced upon them by government. Maybe economic circumstances and life in general may require them to adopt a more austere life, but it is a choice they make of their own free will. That is totally diffierent from somsone else deciding when you will be prosperous and when you will be austere. When economies are growing socialism may seem like a fine thing. Now we are seeing the ugly side when that govenment benefit turns into government punishment.
Good point well made. This wealth grab on the responsible individual has only just begun.
The road to hell is paved with good intention. And that in a nut shell is socialism.
Having read the Road to Serfdom you can clearly see this sort of thing for what it is.

The National Socialist party in Germany under the direction of Hitler knew the youth were niave and impressionable so used this tactic to gain grassroots support.
This is how the road to totalitarianism starts, but what is shocking is that it is still going on today.
Its the banks.........Unkike kramer, i would not want to be a BANKSTER
Austerity!
While William Wallace told his 'overlords' that "They may take our lives, but they'll never take our FREEDOM!"
Really ? is there a recording ? Does Mel Gibson have the only copy ?
You get the idea though...
Meanwhile Bammah still calls it 'credit'.

Ms. Merkel must be off her meds today or that is a huge Freudian slip.
Who needs blue & white paint when you have a "schnitzel face"?
It gets to look like that after she's been out rooting for truffles.
IIRC merkel was against TBTF before she gained her position of power. so...power corrupts or politicians ALWAYS lie?
It's not so much what is backing money, It's who controls the issuance of money and that should be congress for the people, not a criminal cartel (central banks) issuing the money and charging interest when no interest has to be levied to issue the money. That is why the world is in bondage plain and simple!
She obviously needs Krugman to go over and set her straight.
Angela you ignorant slut.

Germany is free? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they still 'occupied' by allied troops? Hell who is holding onto their gold? About as free and secure in their territory as Japan is.
That's pretty much her plan, lard up the debt and rob everybody of their freedom. What's the problem, that she actually said it? Does that really make a difference?
*MERKEL SAYS TOO MANY GERMANY STATES ARE STILL SPENDING TO MUCH
So she thinks all the countries in the EU are little Germanies??
Because you did not say "sarc on" I have to assume that you are one of those Joe six packs who know nothing about history or geography. Germany, like the US, has individual states which make up the German Federal Republic, dummy!
Yeah I should have put the /sarc on... :)
The Mr. Panos video was pretty good timing.
Hello Mrs. Schnitzelface!
If this entire planet was not such a shakespeare tragic play what these muppets say might actually be humorous.

Angela Merkel is a very curious beast...
Hello, Mrs Schnitzelface!
Never go Full Gibson.
Payback.
Good Morning! Now she realized
Wow.
Where's the William Banzai picture of Merkel as Braveheart?
We all demand to see it!
A war debt was a fair instance of the insanity of modern monetary systems: in this case, the German public was indebted ‘to itself’ for an amount twice as large as its income, expended on resources entirely dissipated. Individuals held portfolios of financial titles corresponding to property pulverized in a lost engagement, and they called it wealth – they expected to receive interest on it for many years to come.

Oh Regional Indian is that you?
Couple of weeks in re-hab and maybe the banksters will allow her to speak in public again.
In today's Europe, freedom does not exist. Europeans do not want freedom or care about it.
That is why today's Europeans are slaves and will continue to be slaves--and not only to debt.
I think all this mess is why the ancients had laws on usury, occasional jubiliees, and eating troughs.
Indeed, we'd all be more responsible lenders & borrowers if there was a debt-jubilee on a regular basis & never another bailout.

Nobody believes that the states will eternally drag the burden of these interest payments. It is obvious that sooner or later all these debts will be liquidated in some way or other, but certainly not by payment of interest and principal according to the terms of the contract. - Ludwig von Mises

In the words of Gomer Pile of Andy Griffin.
SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE.
How come she didn't mention all the money that Germany has given to Greece?
She didn't feel it necessary as all the money came back home to the German banks.

BUT! BUT! some men are longer than others!
Has yer muther been tellin stories about me again?
Dear Mrs. Schnitzelface,
Has Greece paid their interest due today (03/23) yet? Better let the TBTF banks know if Greece is still undecided....
It's election time in Germany. Merkel is facing a hugely important test for her coalition in the state of NRW.
She grew up in communism like me, though she spent the first 35 years of her life in communism, I spent only the first 20.
She's got a PhD in chemistry. Her life and mindset is like an experiment, trial and error. She knows for sure what's right to do.
But, knowledge is one thing, applying knowledge is another thing.
So what's she going to do about it?
Presumably she's talking about Germany for a German audience?
Or is this an apologist whine in advance of the next bailout package?
Hard to figure out what she stands for ... too many over-printing subplots.
(pun unintended)
History shall repeat itself in a far greater scale and therefore the benefit for the leading roles shall be much greater. If ancient Greeks won the battle against the barbarity of the East in favour of Europe, then modern Greeks are those who are meant to win the battle against the barbarity of both Eastern and Western world in favour of the human kind.
The German traitors of Europe along with the Phoenicians from Asia may have forced Europe to get down from the "back” of the Greek “bull”, but it remains to be seen how they shall pull it through with the “bull”.
