Mitt Romney Releases 2011 Tax Filing

Tyler Durden's picture

Everyone has been desperately waiting for this. At 3:00 pm it will be publicly released. Hopefully, shortly thereafter we can proceed with the discussion of important things such as the complete economic collapse of not only America, but the entire world (which is apparently now hooked into voting for Obama as disclosed earlier). For those strapped for time here is the summary: Romneys 2011 tax rate 14.1%, Charity donations: 30%; Obamas tax rate: 20.5%, Charity donations: 22%. And going back, "Over the entire 20-year period, the average annual effective federal tax rate was 20.20%."

From Romney's website:

This morning, Gov. and Mrs. Romney filed their 2011 tax return with the IRS. At 3:00pm today, the Romney for President campaign will be posting the 2011 return online.

The complete 2011 tax return, with full schedules, statements, and attachments, will be made available with all other previously-disclosed information at www.mittromney.com/disclosure.

Also posted will be a notarized letter from the Romneys’ tax preparer, PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP (PWC), giving a summary of tax rates from the Romneys’ tax returns for the 20-year period of 1990-2009.

In advance of the posting of these new documents, I wanted to provide some top-line details.

Regarding the newly-filed 2011 Tax Return:

  • In 2011, the Romneys paid $1,935,708 in taxes on $13,696,951 in mostly investment income.
  • The Romneys’ effective tax rate for 2011 was 14.1%.
  • The Romneys donated $4,020,772 to charity in 2011, amounting to nearly 30% of their income.
  • The Romneys claimed a deduction for $2.25 million of those charitable contributions.
  • The Romneys’ generous charitable donations in 2011 would have significantly reduced their tax obligation for the year. The Romneys thus limited their deduction of charitable contributions to conform to the Governor's statement in August, based upon the January estimate of income, that he paid at least 13% in income taxes in each of the last 10 years.

As with the 2010 tax return, the 2011 tax return will appear as four separate documents. It includes Governor and Mrs. Romney's Form 1040 as well as three underlying Massachusetts trusts detailing the sources of their income. Those are The W. Mitt Romney Blind Trust, The Ann D. Romney Blind Trust, and The Romney Family Trust.

The investments within the trusts are managed on a blind basis by me, the trustee. I have sole responsibility for making, holding and disposing of the investments.

Regarding the PWC letter covering the Romneys’ tax filings over 20 years, from 1990 – 2009:

  • In each year during the entire 20-year period, the Romneys owed both state and federal income taxes.
  • Over the entire 20-year period, the average annual effective federal tax rate was 20.20%.
  • Over the entire 20-year period, the lowest annual effective federal personal tax rate was 13.66%.
  • Over the entire 20-year period, the Romneys gave to charity an average of 13.45% of their adjusted gross income.
  • Over the entire 20-year period, the total federal and state taxes owed plus the total charitable donations deducted represented 38.49% of total AGI.

During the 20-year period covered by the PWC letter, Gov. and Mrs. Romney paid 100 percent of the taxes that they owed.

Finally, in addition to new documents related to tax filings, the campaign will also be posting on the same website physician letters for both Gov. Romney and Rep. Ryan, making public their current state of health.

After you have reviewed all of the newly-posted documents, you may have further questions. The campaign asks that you direct them to an e-mail account set up for that purpose. That e-mail address is returns @ mittromney.com.

Charity is a fucking waste of money, but at least they are wasting their own money.  Now, if we could just get them to stop wasting our  money we might get somewhere.

Any time I have the irrational idea to donate money to a charity I take that money and I buy PMs to rid me of the stupid idea.

The greatest act of charity a man can give is to never ever ever need charity.  -- Zap Powerz.

Funny. They give the prols their audited tax returns which are just reflecting the income from investments that are tounching US jurisdiction in one way or another. Nobody is releasing anything from the Caymans, Belize or Panama which is where the loot is and the money that comes back into the US via shell corporations controlled by another shell corporation of the Romney "Trust".

The guy thinks 47% of Americans consider themselves "victims" and are therefore "moochers" or "parasites". A guy like that will justify NOT declaring his LOOT to his God or the country he should serve come hell or high water.

Whatever. He's rich and so are many others. He looted good US businesses via Bain Capital and made himself a fortune. If elected President he will continue the path and loot the treasury of the good ole' US.

For the fascists out there, I'm with you that Obama is a socialist! (yeah, fucking watching your heads spin, because, well, ideologues are so fun to fuck with)

Prove what exactly? How Bain Capital operated? Google LBOs and the effect on American business for starters.

Did you notice how Romney earned 13 mil in 2011 on investments? Not a salary or bonus. From investment. In order to generate 13 mil in 2011 he has to have a decent amount of principal. He did well. Where is the principal amount coming from? Hardly from his salary mopping the floors at Bain Capital.

Think it through ... all the way.

Anyway I don't know what is going to hurt his campaign more. The 47% remark, the fact he paid 14% taxes on "investment" income or the fact that he's a mormon.

This is '04 and John Kerry deja vu. The GOP doesn't want to win this.

You do realize that he and his wife paid more income tax this year than almost half of the country COMBINED, right? That he donated to charity double THAT?

That he, personally, contributed more to the federal government than the "so called 47%"?

Can we try to educate people about all this "off-shoring?"

MANY "jobs" disappeared as the factory processes that now occur somewhere else now utilize more automation/robots.  EVEN IF YOU WERE TO HAUL EVERYTHING BACK TO THE "US" YOU'D STILL HAVE "MISSING" JOBS.  This is the big set-up for those who cannot see the big picture:

The Corporate Party is working feverishly to program us all to accept bigger tax breaks for corporations for "bringing jobs back."  Of course there will be other concessions, such as lower wages and more pollution, but hey! I'm sure that they'll tell you that it beats standing in "lines" for govt handouts (better to have corporate "handouts!").  NOTE: ALL SIDES, which are really the same coin, Corporate and Govt are working together to maintain the oligarchy- picking as side in hopes of escaping ain't going to work!

Almost the entire "not-for-profit" sector in this country is a sham, and this proves what I have known for years. Twenty plus years ago I volunteered for the American Red Cross. The chapter President lived on a lake in the best part of town, drove a red Cross car {without any markings} and even bought a boat and had it and the trailer hitch to haul it billed to the Red Cross, saw it with my own eyes, as I was the one making all of the arrangements, and drove the car to have the hitch installed. FRAUD ALERT, FRAUD ALERT!!

Yeah, it really hurts those entities that aren't shams.  I volunteered for one such entity, a bicycle shop whose mission was to get bicycles back into the community (and help kids from lower income families get a bike).  The reason why it wasn't/isn't a sham is because it is SMALL (remember the lesson: BIG = FAIL!)

As long as the org stays small, it is less prone to corruption. But the nature of things is to grow, and once those six figure checks start rolling in, the officers of the org begin to have lifestyles well beyond their supposed means.

I guess I'm stupid for not playing the "game" correctly, as I received nothing for my Volunteer work (and neither did anyone else- yeah, no paid positions at all) </sarc>

But, actually, small is still prone to corruption, and perhaps can least afford it (had experienced a case where someone was yanking some money from the till; adjusted our processes and fixed it, but it was a real gut-wrenching feeling).

Failures in SMALL, however, don't tend to compromise the entire human population (as do failures in  BIG)...
